Side/window Air Bag Problems of Ford Taurus - part 1

Periodically the passenger side airbag off light comes on. Also, passenger side door ajar on dashboard on all the time which makes dome light stay on and drain battery.

The contact owned a 2010 Ford Taurus. While driving at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a light pole and the front driver and passenger side air bags deployed with excessive force. In addition, the air bags emitted a white substance, which affected the driver's visibility. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The driver sustained injuries to the right hand, right arm, back injuries, and whiplash. The front passenger sustained whiplash. The driver and the passenger both required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl- the contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while traveling an unknow rate of speed, the drivers side and front passengers side air bags deployed with no warning. A substance emitted from both air bags while the contact was driving when the failure occured. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over for a moment and then the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for further diagnosis and inspection. The dealer indicated that codes were cleared, the module was sent to the manufacturer who determine that there was no failure. The manufacturer stated that the legal analysis indicated that the supplimental restraint system was not defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was not avialable. Dyd.

I got a flashing code for the air bags, the code shows that the clock spring is broken and this disables the cruise control and the drivers side air bag, this car has only 51,000 mile on it and this part should last for the life of the car.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that she was crossing the intersection and a car ran a stop sign and crashed into the front driver side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was destroyed. The contact statesd that he and the passenger sustained injuries. The contact stated that she sustained the top half of her back had collapsed and had many briuses and cuts. The passenger sustained a couple of bruises and cuts. At 6:30 a. M. On 4/4/2012 I was driving home from work when I fell asleep ,crossed the center line, hit a semi head on & my driver side airbag didn't deploy. The 2002 Ford Taurus was a vehicle I purchased new. The passenger side with no one in that seat did deploy.

While driving down a paved two lane road the side airbag on the passenger side of our 2005 Ford Taurus deployed causing approximately $2000 in damage to the vehicle. The vehicle had 64,000 miles on it at the time of the incident and was taken to the local Ford dealer fremont Ford. The dealer analyzed the incident and decided the airbag deployed because the vehicle went into a skid. This was not the case as it was traveling down a straight two lane highway. We appealed the decision to Ford legal and was told since the vehicle was out of warranty there was nothing they would do. I argued airbags were not something you would expect to wear out and Ford should pay for the damage. Ford stated they were not aware of any problems with airbags on their vehicles and there was no appeal process to their decision.

Drivers door collision, vehicle equipped with side air bags but did not deploy. Had bags deployed glass injury would not have occurred.

2000 Ford Taurus - swerved to avoid another vehicle; drove over curb. Passenger side airbag deployed (drivers side did not). Dealer said to contact Ford (out of warranty) - Ford not willing to repair. Concern due to non-deployment of drivers side airbag and safety of driving vehicle in future.

Drivers side air bag exploded, but did not inflate. I was driving approximately 25-30 miles in traffic and hit nothing. The airbag light was not on.

I was involved in a car accident on 09/25/2005. I was at a stop light and there was a 1996 Ford f-150 in front on me. I was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus. From behind at approximately 60-70 mph came a 1996 Ford Taurus that slammed into the back of me. My car was forced into the f-150. My car was totaled in front and back. The driver of the 1996 Taurus was under the influence of crystal meth & alcohol. He was arrested. His airbags deployed in the 1996 Taurus. In my 2000 Ford Taurus neither my driver's nor passenger side airbag deployed. I was thrown into my steering wheel and my neck jerked. I am 5 months pregnant. I was taken away by ambulance. They were able to do an ultrasound on the baby, but they could not give x-rays because I am pregnant. So I have been in pain taking extra strength tylenol. I have obtained a lawyer, because I feel that my airbags are defective.

The contact states there was a popping noise in the steering when turning. The dealership could not find where the noise was coming from. However the suspension worked erratically. There was a tear where the passenger's side airbag was located ,and the light indicates it was off. The dealership was unaware that there was a tear under the airbag and why it happened. Also, they did not check to see if there was an airbag in the vehicle.

The driver side air bag of my 2003 Taurus deployed for no apparent reason while I was driving. I was traveling on a two lane road at 30 mph when it deployed. I swerved to the left and recovered and pulled over and stopped. I thought the car had been hit by a large rock on the side of the car. On inspection there was no injury to the car. I was taking my son home from our vacation home in nh when it occurred. The Ford dealership replaced all the air bag elements but could not tell me why it deployed. Both the dealership and Ford motor said that they would be unwilling to guarantee that it won't happen again.

Vehicle was traveling on the road while all of sudden the passenger curtain air bag deployed on its own. Dealer was contacted by owner, and was informed that air bag was not covered under warranty. While traveling 25mph consumer heard a pop sound followed by smoke and a foul odor. Consumer found the seams had popped opened from the passenger side airbag and the air bag was exposed. The air bag did not deploy. Repair was not covered under warranty.

Consumer's vehicle was sitting at intersection and it was involved in a rear end collision, causing consumer's vehicle to hit the vehicle in front. Upon impact, driver's side air bag did not deploy,but passenger's side air bag did deploy. Driver sustained head trauma and refused to go to the hospital. Consumer will go to the hospital the next day. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

While driving consumetr hit a bump on the highwayand both driver's side and passenger side air bags deployed inadvertently. Driver was not injured. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.

Side airbag deployed after car (2001 Ford Taurus) hit pothole. No side impact took place. No damage to side of car. Only damage was scrape on rim of front left wheel after it went into the pothole going forward. On at least 2 occasions prior to this the airbag light went on and off periodically. Incidents were documented with auto dealer at service interval and dealer said could not find problem. But with a history of a problem with sensors and a deployment due to no side impact, this in my opinion represents a safety issue that should be explored as having an airbag go off as you are driving could certainly trigger an accident.

Without warning frontal air bags deployed while the consumer was driving at 25 mph. The force of the deployment caused the seat belt to be torn from the door post. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that something hit the air bag sensor and caused the passenger side air bag to deploy. The insurance company and independent body shop stated that the air bag, sensor or both are defective. The manufacturer has not resolved this problem. The consumer is afraid to drive the vehicle.

While driving 65 mph driver's side and passenger's side air bags inadvertently deployed. Consumer managed to pull over. Police informed the consumer it was safe to drive the vehicle home. Dealership was notified but the problem was not resolved.

Struck another vehicle from the rear. . . 11 o'clock pdof. . High speed. . . Driverside pretensioner fired, but no airbag. Passenger side air bag fired, but no passenger was in the vehicle.

While traveling about 35mph and proceeding through an intersection another vehicle refused to yield hitting consumer's on the driver's side. The driver side airbag didn't deploy.

While driving 65 mph vehicle hit water/slid, and vehicle then veered to right into ditch, and hit a concrete culvert head on. Neither airbag deployed, consumer suffered minor injuries. Vehicle was totalled. Consuemrs wife lost a piece of her index finger. Consumer feels the driver side air bag should have deployed.

Vehicle was traveling about 25-30 mph without prior warning front passenger side airbag deployed. Dealership is aware of the problem.

Consume r was traveling about 65mph on highway. While driving another vehicle veered into consumer's vehicle. Applied brakes, and driver's side airbag didn't go off.

Vehicle was going 25mph and hit a pot hole. Passenger's side air bag deployed. Dealer was notified for appointment.

While driving both airbags deployed, but passenger's side air bag had a hole in it which caused passenger minor injuries because it was not fully deployed. Please provide any further informaton.

Was traveling approximately 45mph when another vehicle came out and caused a t-bone collision. Passenger's side air bag didn't deploy. Passenger was injured with six broken ribs/an injured hand, and was having trouble breathing. The passenger had seat belt restraints on. No contact has been made to the manufacturer.

Consumer states the side airbags did not deploy in a side impact collision, consumer was informed that the side airbags have sensors in the front of the vehicle.

Consumer was traveling about 30mph on a side street, and there was another vehicle parked on side of road, and consumer's vehicle hit other vehicle from behind. Upon impact, driver's side airbag did not deploy. Whenever the alternator gets wet the light gomes on and the power steering fails making it difficult to control the vehicle. Nlm.
