On 8/28/12 the check engine light went on while I was driving on the long island expressway. On 8/29/12 I brought the car into syosset Ford of huntington ("syosset")for diagnosis and repair of the malfunction causing the check engine light to go on. Syosset diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning fuel sender attached above the Taurus' fuel tank. Syosset effect a repair by replacing the fuel sender and charged me $411. 38(before sales tax). On 9/4/12 I smelled gasoline fumes in the driver/passenger compartment, brought the car back to syosset who effected a repair of the leaking fuel sender. On 9/27/12, the check engine light went on again, I brought the car back again to syosset on 9/28/12. Syosset diagnosed the check engine light as caused by the malfunctioning fuel sender and possibly other components. They could not effect a repair on 9/28/12 because they id not have parts or personnel to effect the repair and scheduled me to bring the car back on 10/10/12, while assuring me it was safe to drive. On 10/10/12 I brought the car back to syosset, the check engine light was out and there was nothing they could do. I believe the fuel sender is a defective component that poses a serious danger to the public. Ford had to recall its 2012 escapes for fuel line defects, I believe this defective fuel sender is as dangerous as the escape's defective fuel lines.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. On 10-05-05 he took vehicle dealer for a routine fuel filter change. On Saturday 10-08-05 the car would not start. He saw a puddle of gas by the right rear wheel. He got down and looked under the car, and saw the hose that goes from the tank to the filter loosened. He pushed it back on. But on 10-10-05 he went to a gas station to have a mechanic look at it. The line came off the front of the filter was on , but the line coming from the gas tank on the rear was about to come off again. The mechanic pushed it back on securely. He drove the car home and called the dealership. That same day the line came off again. (from the gas tank to the filter). He put it back on and drove out to the dealer. When the mechanic came out the car would not start. The gas was pouring out again because the line had come off again. The mechanic went and got some new clips and put the new clips on. He has not had the problems since the clips were put on. He is not sure if this is a defective part or if maybe the mechanic that originally replaced the fuel filter did not properly follow Ford's procedures.

The smell of gas was light at first but kept getting stronger. I finally took the car to a certified repair station. The serviceman said that the gas line was mounted so close to the exaust system that the gas line melted and started leaking. He said that if I had waited any longer, the gasoline leak may have caught on fire.
2002 Ford, Taurus se 4 door. Every time vehicle was started consumer smelled gas. Vehicle was taken to a garage where mechanic discovered that gas line above catalytic converter had been rubbed until it began to leak. Gas line was made of something other than metal. The consumer said that his mechanic had same type vehicle and was also smelling gas. The mechanic refused to use Ford parts to fix problem. The mechanic rerouted the gas line around catalytic converter using metal line for the gas line. Consumer still has gas line that was replaced, consumer will send line to odi. Consumer wanted a refund from Ford due to the poor location the fuel line was in.
On 06/13/05 car caught on fire in the garage. When driver was turning on the car smoke came from under the hood. Driver told her husband, and as husband came out to the vehicle, he saw flames coming from cracks in the hood. By the time the fire department arrived the garage was on fire along with two other garages, on left and right side. There was an arson investigator, who reported that it was due to the fuel system. The sheriffs department of lakewood issued report # 105-15803-1331-445. The fire department investigator located out of newhall owner has the phone number and names of the investigators.

Intake manifold in my Ford Taurus 2000 sel exploded. Vehicle: fafp56s2yg125733. I had this happen to me yesterday with my 2000 Ford Taurus se. It has 25,000 miles on it. I had taken it to the dealership for some service last week (30th Dec) and then had this happen yesterday when I started the car in my garage. We had been driving the car in the meanwhile. I don?t think it is related to the service (they did an oil change and replaced the air filter in addition to other things unrelated to the engine). There was a loud noise immediately after I started the car. It was scary enough that I was ducking behind the steering wheel with my hands covering my head. I thought something had fallen on the car from the garage shelves. Then I saw smoke coming from under the hood. I popped up the hood and found that the intake manifold had blown open completely. I called up Ford to see if there were any reported cases of this and was told that there was none. I got the car towed to the dealership and they are looking into it as I write this. I have pictures of the manifold and I have asked the dealership not to start any work before they inform me in a written report what the problem is. I have already found 3 other cases of this on the internet, 2 of which are 2000 Taurus and sable and other one a Mazda with the same engine as mine. I think two of them have already filed a complaint with your office. I would like to know how this problem will be addressed.

I was hit from behind - the person that hit me was going about 50 miles per hour and the fuel cut off system failed.
Every time consumer attempts to fill the vehicle with gasoline the automatic shut off on the gas pump would keep clicking off as if the gas tank was full when in fact it was not, at times it may take up to 10 minutes to fill the vehicle. Nlm.
Fuel lines are rubbing against shock tower which can cause fuel leak. Hose is now showing marking, but eventually will wear. Also, power steering hose is rubbing against air conditioner.
The poor design in fuel system resulted in fuel pump wires rubbing against the fuel feed line and shorting. Yh.
Following is the e-mail from a person assigned to this Taurus: it might be advisable to alert all drivers of newer Tauruses to the fact that there is a fuel pump shut-off switch located on the upper inside wall of the trunk. This is inertia operated, and an unsecured load hitting the right side of the trunk can trip it, shutting down the engine. I had this happen yesterday as I turned off the freeway down james street. Without the power boost on brakes and steering, I was barely able to get the car slowed and into the muni garage. If I had less strength in my legs, I would not have been able to avoid a collision. Once the switch has been actuated, it can be reset via a button on its top, but accessing the trunk in necessary to do this.
Vehicle was rear ended while at a complete stop. Fuel vehicle crash, cut off system failed. Car kept running. Dealer contacted, and is aware of the problem. Cannot remedy the problem. . Et.
While driving vehicle, coming off freeway, the gas line from the gas tank to the gas filter became disconnected for no reason and there was about (5) gallons of gas spillage on the road. .
