3 Fuel Pump problem of the 2014 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/04/2021

My vehicle engine stopped running in traffic and would not restart. I had the vehicle towed to my usual service shop. The reason the car stopped and would not restart was diagnosed as a failure of the fuel pump electric module (Ford part ga8z 9d370 a). My service shop was advised by the Ford parts dealer that there was a recall (# 16v621000) in 2016 for that part. I contacted Ford and was advised that my vehicle VIN was not part of that recall. Do not know why. Certainly, a vehicle that stops running in traffic creates a safety hazard to that vehicle and other vehicle on the road.

18 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/03/2007

I have a 2003 Ford Taurus it is a flex fuel vehicle. We have recently gotten e85 gas in our area and I use it periodically. I have been having "starting issues" with it; over the past year it has had the iacv replaced twice, the fuel pump, the starter and the fuel filter all replaced once. The fuel filter was replaced with in the last 3 months. The car either will act like it does not want to start (sputter starting), or it will die right after putting it into drive. It happens more frequently when using the e85 gasoline, but also does it with regular gas. Ford basically has told me they have never heard of any starting or stalling problems related to ethanol fuel and have given up on fixing my problem.

20 Fuel Pump problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/03/2005

Driving along the interstate at 70 mph and the car started slowing down and lost complete power; all the lights on the dash came on; no gas pedal and no steering. The tearrain was rolling hills. We had just under a half a tank of gas. There were no indications there was anything wrong with our vehicle it just went into these symptoms. It happened five more times as my wife was driving before she could get into a safe area. She called a tow truck to take our vehicle to the dealer. Each time she was able to make it to the side of the road, wait about 5 minutes and try to start the vehicle (didn't always start at first) she was able to travel only a couple of miles. We called the dealership the next morning and explained the symptoms and they replaced our "fb sender and pump asy" 2f1z-9h307-fb (replaced fuel pump) and our "in line fuel filter" yf1z-9155-CA(filter 1767). We had these same symptoms in Sep 05 odi number 10141907. We believe this is the same problem that the Ford motor company identified for the 2000/2001ford focus; program 03n01.

21 Fuel Pump problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/12/2005

I own a 2002 Ford Taurus which I bought from my father. It only has 27320 miles. On September 12, 2005, I had trouble starting the car. Once started, it would not run very long. Luckily, I was right across the street from a Ford dealer. I left it to be checked. The dealer called and said the fuel pump needs to be replaced. This cost me $100 deductible since it was past the time limit of the original warranty but under the mileage. I own a 2001 Mercury sable with 65000 miles, on its 3rd fuel pump and I also own a 2002 Ford Taurus with 27000 miles, on its 2nd fuel pump.

Consumer has 2000 Ford Taurus. Fuel pump died in mid March. Consumer has been in contact with Ford for two weeks. Burning ethanol was the reason the consumer believed the fuel pump failed. The emission control lights came on and then the vehicle began to surge and die. The consumer said this happened in her driveway. It could have been a real safety issue. The vehicle was serviced for emission light on may 20th. The sticker on the inner door of the gas tank read use ethanol or unleaded fuel only. The consumer needed a new fuel pump because it was not holding pressure. The consumer was told the vehicle was not a flex fuel vehicle and that it had been mis-labeled and the vehicle was only to have unleaded fuel not ethanol.

27 Fuel Pump problem of the 1998 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

The fuel pump just stopped working causing a complete shut down of all systems no steering, brakes, etc;just by luck the wife was driving slow in traffic but can you imiange if you were driving at high speeds!!!! and to top it off because of a poor design the consumer gets stuck with a 619. 00 repair bill due to the fact the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank and is labor intensive to repair which really sucks!!!! thank you for your time but to me this is a real safety hazard not to mention the high cost just to repair a fuel pump.

28 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/16/2003

While driving at 20 mph consumer heard a noise near the engine compartment, and it became hard to steer. Consumer took the vehicle home and called a mechanic. The mechanic examined the vehicle and determined that power steering pump needed to be replaced. Fuel pump had been replaced four times since ownership of the vehicle.

29 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/11/2003

1997 Ford Taurus wagon. Over the past two months, the vehicle stopped dead in traffic 5 times at various speeds with no advance warning. It would not restart. The fuse to the fuel pump repeatedly blew, but no other problems were evident each time the car was towed to the garage. The engine would run roughly, stall, and surge, but the problem was intermittent, and gradually became worse. The mechanic suspected a problem with the fuel system. An investigation revealed that a wire to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank had its insulation worn off down to the bare wire, and had shorted out. Other wires also show signs of wear, but are not yet worn through. I have digital pictures of the wires. The wires were damaged due to the way the fuel pump was assembled within the gas tank. This is an obvious manufacturing defect and is not limited to only our car. Ford has issued 3 TSB's relating to this problem (98251, 5226, and 12189) and I have also found several related complaints in the NHTSA database (odi id 549996, 707889, 713208, 807546, 838030, 853283, 879245, 10018293, and 8012733). I am concerned that this problem could not only cause complete vehicle failure (loss of power steering and brakes) at any speed, but also that the possibility of a spark inside the gas tank is not out of the question. This wiring problem should be investigated as a possible cause for any Ford Taurus fires, or accidents involving loss of power. We are convinced that this is a manufacturing defect and that the possibility of more related accidents increases as current vehicles age. Ford evidently is aware of this problem, or they would not have revised the wiring harness and given special installation instructions to their technicians.

32 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus
