Car would not stop accelerating. I see that throttle cable is binding and getting hung up in the open position.

After getting off of the highway, while driving through a 30 mph zone, car started to accelerate without stepping on the accelerator. I pulled over and put it in neutral and it was racing. I shut it off and waited and started up and it was still racing, I stepped on the accelerator quickly on and off and it went back to normal. I drove down the street and it did it again and again I put it in neutral and kicked it down with the accelerator and it hasn't happened since. It seems very intermittent as the last time it happened was 2 years ago. It is very difficult to diagnose because of this.

Starting approximately a month ago my throttle started getting stuck on my car. I was driving down the highway and when I took my foot off of the gas peddle, the speed slowed down some, but then it acted as though the cruise control was on and the throttle was stuck. I was pressing the brake but the throttle was still engaged. Even when I was at a complete stop, the throttle was still engaged and the engine racing. Several times I had to put the car in neutral and/or stomp on the gas pedal several times to get the throttle to release. This doesn't happen all the time but is an intermittent problem.
While driving vehicle to work, noticed that cruise control would not engage as normal. As I began to decel onto the off-ramp, the engine rpm stay at approx 2800 rpm and would not go any lower. Found that black cruise control tab on throttle body had allowed throttle cable to slip out partially, causing the throttle body to stay partially open. Had to wire-tye the end of throttle body for cable to remain engaged to operate vehicle.
Transmission failed on insterstate. No warning whatsoever.

I had to replace throttle body assembly on my 2010 Taurus limited. It only had 28000 miles at time of occurance. I can't believe there is no recall on this, as Ford has had several problems with throttle body assembly.

My 2004 Ford Taurus accelerated on it's own on 3 separate occasions. Without my foot on any pedal, my car kept going faster & faster. It would not stop by pressing the brakes. Car had to be put in neutral & then turned off. It happened when mechanic drove my car, also. No car in front of me, so no accident. I paid twice to have my car fixed, since problem was difficult to diagnose. Sounds like same throttle problem that is happening to other Tauruses now. I have copies of my car repair receipts.
2001 Ford Taurus iac valve failure at 54,200 miles.
Car speed took off by itself burned up brakes trying to get home. Put car in neutral and motor raced, had to turn off ignition. Found cruise cable off at throttle put cable back on and it happened again. Now car will not idle right.

Gas smell back seat passenger side, no one can sit in back seat or they get over powered by gasoline smell, 2002 Ford Taurus I know of five other cars in my area (same year and make) with same exact issue.
My son and wife were in the vehicle when it accelerated out of control. My son hit the brakes hard and found it difficult to keep the car below 30 mph. He noticed the tachometer was racing 3,000 rpm even though he was applying the brake hard. He was able to pull over into a convenience store and shut off the engine. This was the only time this happened although I often felt the car was going too fast (@ 20mph) when starting up with no foot pressure on accelerator. Car was towed to dealer and repaired 2 days later. Mechanic said the 'air intake valve' was dirty (carbon deposits) and replaced. He also noted car was reprogrammed by the computer. Car performance I believe, was due to malfunction of computer or microprocessors which caused too much fuel to be injected into the engine.
While driving at posted speed limit, engine stuttered and died in traffic. Battery light lit up. Auto club restarted car and stated "no battery failure". Drove car all day and next day for approx. 3 hours when same engine stutter and died in traffic occurred. This time, besides "battery light" the "check engine light"came on. Again auto club was able to restart. Drove car to repair shop, who performed a "diagnostic test" and replaced a "fuel pressure sensor". I retained the old part. The car has been regularly serviced at recommended intervals by selling dealer. This engine failure is not only dangerous to me and fam. ,but also to the surrounding traffic at the time failure occurs while driving. Getting the vehicle out of traffic was extremely difficult, due to inabilty to use power steering and brakes, being that it happened on an incline. I sincerely hope this information is relevant to your research.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving, she turned on the cruise control and the vehicle began slipping out of gear. When she pulled over, the vehicle began sputtering. She turned the vehicle off and restarted and the vehicle stalled. She turned it off and on again but it stalled again. The contact opened the hood of the vehicle and flames began "shooting out". The vehicle completely burned. There was a fire report filed with the fire department; a firefighter stated that a fuel leak could have caused the failure but was unsure. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 130,000-.
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus since new. At about 70,000 miles it started having acceleration without touching the gas. No codes showed up. Every mechanic has a different opinion. Basically trial and error, none of which works. I have had the cruise checked, changed the throttle position sensor and the idle air valve. It still does this at 111,000. I am concerned for my wife's safety since it is her car. I read that Ford has not recognised this as a problem, but there are hundreds of similar online complaints.

During warmer months vehicle will accelerate on its own. The speed is about 30 mph up pass 60mph. You have to push the gas pedal to floor to stop the acceleration. We have taken to Ford dealership several times. They find nothing . We have almost had several accidents.
