Tank Assembly Problems of Ford Taurus

2005 Taurus flex fuel. Fuel gauge reading erratic, engine light on after gauge showed empty. Car will not pass inspection in nys with engine check engine light on. Fix,replace module under dash part #yf1u-14a069aa $50. 00 at dealer. Flex fuel module. This fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank is not problem.

The consumer smelled a strong odor of gasoline. It was a hot summer day and the consumer had disregarded the odor at the time. After the smell lingered the consumer inspected underneath the vehicle but did not see any leaks, but did notice a spot on the driveway where the vehicle had been parked. Concerned, the consumer took the car to the garage and the mechanic said that there was a leak in the gas tank towards the top. The mechanic could not purchase an after market replacement gas tank claiming that a Ford dealership would have to be consulted. The consumer contacted a Ford dealership and they inspected the vehicle and discovered a leak on the seam of the gas tank. The gas tank was replaced, but Ford would not offer any cost assistance or cover the repairs. The consumer felt that this was a factory related defect. The dealership did not offer any explanation as to why this defect had occurred. This was an expensive repair.

Gas tank sending unit are not calibrated. Gas gauge are not accurate, needle always goes to 7/8th oftank of gas, sometimes to 3/4 of a tank. This car is a 2005 Taurus se.

The consumer took the vehicle to the repair shop for routine maintenance. The mechanic informed the consumer that a hole was inside of the gas tank which was leaking gas and it needed to be replaced. Please fill in additional information.

Consumer noticed anti freeze in driveway. Upon further inspection noticed a crack in the fuel tank. When the part was ordered through the dealership consumer was informed that this was a common failure part.

I have two essentially identical 19'97 Ford automobiles; a Taurus and a sable. On the Taurus I just had the gas tank replaced because the mechanic said and showed me that it was leaking at the seams. I not ice now a gasoline smell coming from the sable. . Based on two out of two vehicles, I believe that there might be a general problem with Ford gas tanks leaking.

While driving at any speed the fuel tank leaked. The consumer was concerned that the vehicle would catch fire. Please provide additional information.

The seam on our gas tank had split, causing it to flow into the outer gas compartment & corroded through. We hadn't hit anything and even if we did it should not have caused such an extensive amount of damage.

Consumer states that vehicle is only getting 8 miles per gallon. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

Fuel guage on instrument panel failed which in turn caused me to drive vehicle until gas was empty which in turn caused the fuel pump to fail. Dealer will not work with me on the cost to repair this. I feel it is unfair that I have to pay $700 to get all these repairs done when it was Ford's fault in the first place. If the fuel guage on the dash would have been working properly then I would have known I was running out of gas and the fuel pump would have never been damaged. Nlm.

Tires: reported vibration , shimmy and pulling to the left. Took to dealer 6/24/2000 (1829) miles, balanced tires. On 11/14/2000 (9061)miles, 04/23/2001 (12871) balanced tires. Finally, 5/25/2001 (14518) replaced two front tires. Vibration and shimmy stopped but kept pulling to the left. On 10/10/2001 (23876) miles, charged me for alignment, car stopped pulling. Transmission: at approximately 40800 miles car had a noticeable shudder while going in reverse. Took to the dealer and was told it was a cracked casing as noted in TSB 15559 NHTSA number (630095) caused by miss manufacture of a part. Was informed dealer or Ford motor CO. Would not assist with repair cost to exceed $1495. Brakes: reported brake problem on 5/25/2001 and 10/10/2001 when it was server, shaking and control problems when stopping. Dealer cut front rotors which was out of spec. - problem is back. Fuel: have smelled gas in my car many times. Bought to dealers attention and of course could not find anything. Car is to have 18 gal. Tank but runs out of gas before that. Gas gauge reads empty at 12 gal. And was told it was built to be that way. Several complaints filed with you also describe my problems. My gas tank developed a hairline fracture. The dealer is replacing the tank. I just want to make sure this is not a reocurring product failure.

I am unable to fill the car with gas. I took the car to the dealer lafres Ford first appointment on 6/21/01. The dealer asked me to take the car at the end of the day. They order a part which is not on stock. I was told to slowly fill with gas. Will contact me when they receive the part. When I took the car to fill it, it took me over half an hour for half tank 'extremely slow'. After contacting them the following week, I got an appointment to replace the part for 7/2/01. I left them the car for this part and also for 15,000 miles service. I picked the car at 2:30 p. M. And the invoice showed replacement part 'xf1z-9034-aa' pipe assy-fuel. When I went to fill the car with gas I experienced the same thing. I took tha car back to the dealer after 5 minutes. I was told that they have to consult engineering an Ford for authorization to replace the gas tank. Today on July 6, 01 I got a message on my answering machine that the car is ready for pickup. When I went to pick the car, I was told that Ford did not authorize the tank replacement. They can not help me. They gave me a print of case # 12455 which explain a problem with 1999 Taurus/sable slow fuel fill. I don't know what to do as I can't live with this extremely slow filling the car with gas. P. S. : the car is still under the factory warranty and I also have extended warranty.

While driving approximately 55 mph vehicle ran over an article on road which punctured gas tank. Tank punctured so easily that it emptied the full tank of gas in approximately 2 minutes. Ford dealer replaced entire tank at consumer's expense.

Heater core and expansion tank crack and leaks causing steam and anti-freeze smell to enter car causing poor visibilty and also nausea from smell of anti-freeze.

I have had my Taurus at the shop now 4 times. There is gas leaking out of my car everytime I fill up. I was told that I was "over filling" the tank, but that's crap. I am a working mother of 3 and I have to depend on my car. It is a real inconvience that I have to keep taking this car back and forth to the shop when it is only 9 months old. Ford should be willing to replace this car out of good buisness. I'm sure the president of the company would not like for his wife to have to drive a car with this problem or his children. This is only my second Ford car, and with this experience under my belt, you can best believe that I will "never" purchase another one. It is my hope that the president of the company sees and reads this complaint.

The mileage and speed varies but is not limited to the vehicle starting up or at stoplights or signs only.

Gas gauge showed an eighth of tank with fuel. However, gas gauge light came on the dashboard, showing tank was low in gas. Ten seconds later, vehicle stopped. Manual indicated that tank held 16 gallons of fuel. Consumer indicated that tank held only 14. 4 gallons of fuel.

Vehicle stalls when gas tank is less than 1/4 filled and only when driving up a steep hill. Dealer has looked at this 4 times. They can't find the cause. Ford regional office in san francisco says this is normal.

Gas gauge wasn't working properly. It was showing that there wasn't any gas in the vehicle although tank was half full. Dealer replace gas gauge. Also consumer can can smell gas fumes.

Driver reported fuel guage stuck on full. When taken to dealer, repair order shows instrument panel fuel guage replaced, but when tested fuel guage still inop. Repair order shows finally testing found "missing ffv sensor module". Installed module. Repair order also shows "wiring diagram was incorrect".

Design flaw of the gas tank assembly causing consumer to overfill tank also tank registers improper gas tank indication, repaired on one occasion however continues to experience problems.

Fuel spitting out of filler neck, and fuel gauge failed to operate properly. Vehicle been at dealers shop on several occasions, and problem still reoccurring. The nozzle shuts off when filling the gas tank and the tank spits out gas. The dealer fixed the problem but the fuel guage still malfunctions.

The vehicle experienced the same defect with its fuel tank as stated in recall 97 v 144 000, butthis vehicle not covered under recall due to VIN. Vehicle was manufactured in the wayne plant, and in the same month as stated in the recall, but not in one of the states listed.
