The electric power steering failed while driving on the freeway. Now it is very hard to steer and the steering capability feel as though it is trying to lock up, which make it very hard to change lanes and turn.
Intermittent power steering failure happens at random times while in motion or stationary at any speed.
The power steering is failing the car only has 34,000 miles on it. It is very difficult to maneuver the vehicle especially on turns.
Power steering assist failed, almost locking up steering while stationery. Vehicle could not be driven as too many force is needed to move the steering wheel. This is the infamous electronic power assist system (epas) on many recent Fords that are failing left and right. The system replacement part is about $1,300 (the whole thing new, as it can not be repaired) + $700 labor = a $2,000+ repair. Ford has decided to recall some vehicles (2011 and newer) but others not (2010 or earlier), leaving owners like myself stranded, as these epas usually fail after the warranty expires. I own a 2010 Taurus sho, on these particular 2010 and earlier systems, which appear to be an earlier generation, when the epas fails, steering becomes hard as a rock, you simply can not drive the car. This is very concerning if it happens while driving. Unfortunately, Ford has been hiding, and even they have been investigated, they claim that even when the epas fails, you still should be able to steer your car and be able to drive it with just a little more effort. This is half true. That is the case with the 2011 and newer epas systems, which you can see demonstrated here: https://youtu. Be/su5fd_w5hxm?t=1m53s but for 2010 and earlier, that is not the case, as this fellow demonstrate: https://youtu. Be/szhmxwcp9fo so, this issue is really affecting pre 2010 owners, which appear to have a 1st gen epas I guess, since the two behave differently when they fail. Ford should be investigated as to why they recalled 2011 and newer but did not recalled 2010 and earlier. The two systems are different, and the pre-2010 is a more concerning issue, as it involves a total steering loss of the car.

Power steering failure on several occasions, now there is no steering at all. This is the same problem with regular Taurus se sel, but this is the Taurus sho. No recall on the sho. Ford blames this on many three things electrical failure, the real cause is poor engineering by Ford, this steering rack with all electrical parts, are three inches away from turbos and catalitc converters, extreme heat from these componets has caused them to fail. The heat produced from these componets are in the 1200 degree range. Ford new this was a problem that's why they tried to put heat shield near this component. This car is a death trap. I have owned and still have four Taurus sho's 91,92,98,2011. Never again Ford. I think this car should be on recall before someone is killed.

Power steering failure can not drive the car.
Power steering failed and caused vehicle to be very difficult to continue properly around a bend in the road. Simultaneous with this failure, the traction control system sent up an alarm and the turn signals stop working and the lever has to be held in place to make the indicators work.

I was driving on i279 around 6:15am on july1, 2014. My speed was approximately 60mph. All of a sudden a message appeared on the screen saying there was a power steering system failure. At that point I immediately lost all power to the steering wheel. It was very difficult to maintain a straight course and fortunately I didn't have very far to go until I could pull over and stop. This is very dangerous. Shortly thereafter the advance traction control symbol appeared on the screen also.

Entering street from parking area, power steering assist failed. Warning on dash stated electronic steering failed. With difficulty, steered car to side of road. Turned car off. When car restarted, failure self corrected. Appears to be failure of computer control of electronic steering assist.
Power steering rack failed while driving in a parking lot. Vehicle became very difficult to maneuver. Ford said steering rack is not part of the power train warranty so I had to replace out of my own pocket. Ford is apparently aware of the problem as TSB 09-5-7 shows. This TSB should be a recall for safety reasons. If the power steering would have failed while driving in traffic the car would've uncontrollable.

We were driving with 3 of our kids in the back seat, when all of sudden, without warning, the power steering system failed, resulting in not being able to turn right. Fortunately, we were able to stop the car and no one was hurt. It could have been much worse if this had happened on the highway. We went to the Ford dealer, who told us that the part had to be replaced, but was not under warranty. We are waiting for a quote, but were already told it was going to be at least $1,000 this car is only 2 years old and failed without a reason.
Power steering failed.
