Steering Column Problems of Ford Taurus

Steering wheel became difficult to turn while driving causing the vehicle to be unsafe to drive. Vehicle was taken to Ford dealership and was told lower steering column needed to be replaced but the part was back ordered for a minimum of 2 weeks. This seems to be a defective part if Ford is having to supply so many new parts and cannot keep them in stock.

Clearwater florida 2013 vehicle traveling on the interstate at 65 mph. I watched as the key to the vehicle turned into the off position. The brakes did not work the steering column would not steer the whole electrical system in the vehicle shutdown. October 8, 2014 at approximately 5:30 pm while in boston mass the vehicles electrical system shutdown. Tires are cracked and dry at only 34,000 miles. I'm traveling back to florida soon with my dog from boston and I'm afraid this car won't make it.
