My warning light showing "power steering assist faulty" showed up about a month ago on my dash, I couldn't steer left or right. The wheel was very hard and scary too. I cut off the engine and restarted, and the warning went away. Same month, another warning showed up saying "service advance trac" and went off by itself. Two days ago the 29th of September, 2020 I drove my vehicle to work. At 17:05 I left work and started my engine, I got on the interstate and both lights came back at the same time. Power steering assist faulty, and service advance trac warning both came on. I couldn't steer left or right, neither could I use the blinker. These was the most scariest moment of my life as I almost crashed my car. I deployed my best driving skill to get my vehicle home without killing myself or hurting anyone. I made it safe to my parking lot, turned off my the engine and started it again, the fault was still there, the steering is very hard to turn left or right. Dealership said it's my power steering motor (racket pinion) and have to bring it in for replacement. The cost of replacement is ridiculously high and I cannot afford it. I had other professionals look at it, they diagnosed same thing. My vehicle is too young to have such life threatening malfunction. Lots of complainants have exact similar situation from the research I've made. Cost of fixing my car would break my bank. I don't have it and left with no option but to leave the car in my parking lot until I can figure what to do with it. If Ford is making vehicle to kill us, we need to know so we can at least increase our life insurance and buy casket waiting to die all because we bought our own death. This is the scariest driving experience ever. Now I have no vehicle, but left with options of rentals and doing whatever it takes to get to work. Not nice at all.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Taurus while starting the vehicle the steering wheel was hard to turn and became inoperable. The power assist fault message was displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic who informed about the diagnostic fees. The contact called tommie vaughn Ford 1201 n shepherd dr, houston, TX 77008 (832) 648-3596 but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not assist. The failure mileage was 155,000. The contact stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign number 15v34000 steering. Ap.
I stopped for lunch and when I came back out and turned on the car the power steering light came on. I could barely move the steering wheel and it was extremely hard to move the vehicle in any direction. I had my children with me and it was really hot outside so I managed to drive the vehicle very carefully to the nearest walmart supercenter where I could take the children inside and take care of the vehicle. The car got towed to the nearest Ford dealership where they informed me that it would cost me 2200 dollars to fix the problem because my car was not part of the recall NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000. This was extremely upsetting because the recall specifically says what parts of the vehicle are affected but is VIN specific. Ford won't do anything about it.
So my 2015 Ford Taurus and I was coming to a stop at a stop light steering started to feel kind of tight. Almost is just on an older car my power steering fluid make it be getting a little low I continue going about my trip thinking that much of it when I got to my destination I checked to see if there was a power steering reservoir to see if the power steering fluid is low to find out that the Ford Taurus is an all electrical power assist system. I live in upstate new york and the weather has been pretty cold out so I thought maybe there was a ice build-up underneath the vehicle I'll have since washed the bottom of the car out and the weather is now in the 50 and I'm still in getting the numb tight feeling in the steering it's almost as if heading into a turn periodically at any speed the steering just seems to get tighter as if it's going to lock up I travel about 51 miles to work a day so I can notice a difference off and on throughout the trip.

After driving >2 hours non-stop on highway the steering became difficult to control. There was resistance to subtle steering efforts in both directions. It felt like the steering was sticking. When enough steering force was applied it would suddenly respond. Because of the force being applied to the steering wheel it would over steer. After the unit cooled down over night the symptoms disappeared. This has happened two times in the 19k miles on the unit. Both times the unit was driven >2 hours before the symptoms started.

Car has 63,000 miles on it and now the steering is getting hard to turn and stiff and won't return after I turn while drving.
Travelling home from missouri to oklahoma with my son in rainy conditions I noticed that the steering on my Taurus was tight and difficult to steer to the right. The car became difficult to steer and it felt like the power steering had been lost. Without warning the car veered to the right and became unsafe. I slowed to about 45 mph and was able to maintain control of the car. This is a safety problem that needs to be addressed by Ford. From what I've read, this steering problem seems to be common to this year Taurus. The cost of repairs, from what I've seen, averages above $1,000. What, if anything, is being done to correct this problem. I did read of one report that occurred while the car was under warranty. This should be a recall item because it is definitely a safety issue!.

When turning to the right at city and highway speeds the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn to the right. Once the steering wheel is turned to negotiate an approximate 45 degree turn, the steering wheel wants to turn independently farther to the right. The steering is unstable at highway speeds.
While backing and turning out of my driveway at speeds at or near 1 mph I noticed the steering was tight - as if the power steering no longer worked. After pulling out of the driveway and proceeding approximately 1 mile (speed limit less than 25 mph) to a stop sign, I was unable to make the left turn from a stopped position (had to back up and try again - fortunately no other cars in intersection). Moments later, still at speeds of 25 mph or less, the steering became hypersensitive while going around a bend in the road, causing me to not only enter the opposite lane, but to almost do a 360 degree turn (and off the pavement). I went home and had the car towed to Ford dealership. First, a failed steering rack was diagnosed, then a lower steering rod joint failure (not sure if only the latter or both since the car is still in the shop). Fortunately, neither I nor anyone else was injured - but the car was not controllable. Also fortunately I had purchased an extended warranty (4th time I needed it, but first safety issue). I read others have similar issues so I am reporting it.
Driving for work noticed with backing in and out of driveways that steering was tight. Checked power steering fluid level and it was fine thought it was just needing new tires. Driving home after picking my children up from daycare and went to turn right on a curve at about 35 mph and steering very tight with "throbbing" felt in steering wheel. I did not have good control of the vehicle and needed to slam on the breaks to make the curve. Took car in and was told needed new rack and pinion. Car has 47,000 miles on it. Called Ford and they said no problem reported and not covered under warranty. Now it is very hard to turn at all and raises some serious crash aversion issues as well as sometimes works fine and sometimes not at all. I am a visiting nurse and have two young boys and the cost to fix the problem is over $900 plus more if the p/s pump was also damaged. Ford has TSB out (which they denied) and supposedly the new part, that cost at least $200 more than an aftermarket, has to come from Ford because they know that there is a manufacture defect. They have remedied the problem with an "improvement" to their rack and pinion system at the cost of the customer.
