My vehicle is 3 months old with 4650 miles. I was driving on the turnpike and without notice a warning on the dash advised that there was no oil pressure and to pull over. I had the vehicle towed to a dealer out of state since we were 3 hours from home. The dealer called today to advised the car needed a new engine. I asked what was the route cause and they advise the gm did not require the engine to be stripped to find one.

I have a 2018 GMC Acadia that is now displaying " shift to park " while the vehicle is in park. Upon extensive research I see GMC did issue a recall however, my particular VIN was not included. Its now displaying the error message which would lead me to believe it is part of the recall. I called my local GMC dealership (langhorne, PA. ) and they said this was not covered since my VIN was not issues a recall.

Truck lost power randomly while driving on freeway spend so much money on fixing it this has to do something with the way the built it.
On about 01/20/2025 my transmission? auto started to shudder before going into 3rd gear threw 5th. Once in 6th gear at about 55 the auto starts to shudder and turns into a rumble feeling. My auto only has 100650 for miles on it. It has been serviced and have brought it to gm 01/24/25 to ask about it? after talking to service adviser. It would cost me 75. 00 for someone to go with me to confirm it is doing it. Then make an appointment for further evaluation. No price given at this time. But did not on paper! say that it is most likely torque converter causing the problem? confirmed it is not under warranty and there was nothing gm could do. I have been to at least 3 other shops in my area and they all say the same thing and price. Which is between 6 to 7 thousand dollars to replace the transmission. They all dosay that when it goes it could make me loose control due to lockup.

Oil is burning through. I have to get an oil change once a month or it goes completely empty. Spoke to multiple macanics now and all tell me that's a defect with the 2017 arcadia. I just bought this in August. I love it and don't want to get rid of it. Please fix this. I can't keep burning through oil like this. It's not safe for my kids and I.

Transmission control value issues. I was driving my car and rpm spiked up high and I coasted and there was no acceleration the rear wheel tires locked up and I felt a jerk. Placed the vehicle in park and pulled hand gear shifter into drive and the vehicle shifted back into park by itself. Same thing happened on placing the vehicle in reverse. Like the car had a mindset of its own. Luckily I was only going 20 miles per hour this could have been a fatality. This vehicle is not on the recall list. It should be because they use all the same parts.

The contact owned a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, white and black smoke had leaked into the interior cabin through the air vents. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had caught on fire under the hood. The contact pulled over to the side of the road when the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The local fire department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. The source of the fire was unidentified. A police report was filed. The contact sought medical attention for smoke inhalation. The vehicle was towed to a local tow lot via the insurance provider. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The local dealer was not contacted. In addition, the contact related the failure to an unknown NHTSA campaign that was previously repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While highway driving, engine suddenly lost power and car could not exceed 5 mph. Was able to get off at next exit and get to a local garage. Mechanic inspected. Bolt connecting high pressure fuel pump to cylinder sheared off leaving bolt body in cylinder, bending fuel pump and caused oil to spray over entire engine compartment. Repair unlikely. Engine will likely need to be replaced. Car has always been maintained. No indication of failure prior to incident.
I own a 2020 GMC Acadia that has experienced multiple major mechanical failures within one year. In January 2025, at around 74,000 miles, the transmission failed completely with no warning or clear indication of what was wrong. The vehicle suddenly lost power while driving, creating a safety risk for me and my child. I was quoted around $12,000 for the transmission replacement initially before getting gm involved. Gm covered all but approximately $3,600 out of pocket for me and also covered 100% of the timing cover replacement, which was found to be defective during the same repair. Now, at about 84,000 miles, the thermostat has failed, triggering the check engine light. This repair has not yet been completed and is estimated at around $1,500. My dealership informed me they keep thermostat parts in stock because this failure is so common on Acadias. There were no warning lamps or symptoms before any of these failures occurred. All repairs and diagnostics—including the current issue—were done at the same GMC dealership where I’ve always had my vehicle serviced on time. I’ve been a loyal customer and maintain my vehicle according to the recommended schedule. Despite that, I have faced repeated high-cost repairs on a 5-year-old vehicle with relatively low mileage, which has been financially and emotionally overwhelming—especially as a parent who recently lost employment. Having the transmission, timing cover, and now thermostat all fail in such a short time clearly raises concerns about the reliability, safety, and manufacturing quality of the 2020 GMC Acadia’s powertrain and engine systems. Given that gm has already covered most of the transmission and timing cover repairs and dealerships acknowledge frequent thermostat failures, this appears to be a systemic defect that warrants formal investigation.

On 11/26/24 my wife was running errands in her vehicle when the power shut off and killed the car. She was in the left lane of a busy state highway. She was able to coast off the road slightly before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The dashboard said to press brake and start button, but the car would not start. The vehicle was also stuck in drive and would not switch to park, neutral, or any other gears. Police came and had to push her vehicle with theirs into a nearby park lot so a tow truck could pick it up. It is currently at a gm dealership waiting to be looked at.

My steering assist is coming on an the thermostat play apart in this. The thermostat need to be change. 2018-GMC-acadia are having problems with these parts.
Steering assist is reduced drive with care. Everyone is have a problem with the 2018-GMC-acadia thermostat is bad.
Vehicle stalled out and instrument panel showed no gas when the tank was over half full. I had trouble re-starting but was able to only drive a mile before stalling again. Both times occurred at a stoplight I had it towed to local dealer . They replaced the fuel pump power control module. The service personnel said that they see a large number of these and that some people had accidents due to this. I was about to enter a very busy highway at rush hour and if this happened on the highway, it would be very dangerous. I saw that there were previous recalls on GMC/chevy vehicles similar to mine from 2021 that had recalls for this same reason but the Acadia has not been included. From what I have seen, a recall should be considered.
The timing chains went on the engine at 148,000 miles. Which is known for 3. 6l engines. Gm needs to own up to their faulty manufacturing on these engines. I need this vehicle for my children. This is the second time I have to put another engine in this truck. Thankfully when I purchased this vehicle it had a warranty but it only cover so much so I had to put a jasper motor in it instead of a brand new one from gm itself and now this jasper motor died after only driving it 22,000 miles and getting my oil changed every 3,000 miles. Single mom of soon to be 3 children I can't afford another 3 row seating vehicle.

The electrical, engine, and a/c systems failed. First our a/c stopped blowing cold. A warning light came up and said that driver assist was not working properly, and temperature gauge went all the way down to cold and did not move after that. It appears 3 things were malfunctioning. I was afraid to drive it for fear of burning up the engine due to an engine cooling malfunction and the car overheating. The a/c stopped blowing cold air but was still blowing warm air. The steering system alert was on the dash but wasn't an issue. I called onstar to diagnose the problem and they initially said they didn't see a problem but based on what I described it would be best to have it towed. I later got an email that an issue was detected, code p0128. I called my dealership and they also said to have it towed so they could check it. We were not in a position to have the car towed and for it to sit in the service department for 5 days (that was what their queue backup was like then). I took the car to a nearby shop to have it checked. Because I was afraid to drive it we I got it there by disconnecting the battery. A/c was blowing cold like arctic air and the temperature gauge went back to normal. We got it to the shop (a few miles away) and they could not duplicate the issue due to the battery disconnection "fix". They said the car would be temporarily functioning per usual but the problem will come back again soon and to bring it back when it happens. It happened 2 weeks later (2 hours from home/stuck in traffic). We found an auto parts store and bought a wrench to disconnect the battery again to get home and all was good once we did that "fix" again. We have a service appointment to have it repaired. Two quotes I got were for $1600 and $2200. Temperature sensors/thermostats were suspected to be the cause of the issue. The auto shop stated they frequently see this issue (p0128) with GMC vehicles in recent years, even when they are only a few years old. Ours is 4 years.
Engine exhaust makes vibrating noise similar to a leaf blower under acceleration. TSB issued due to common issue and gm refuses to recall or fix. Broken baffle/weld inside of front muffler/resonator on exhaust system under front passenger compartment. Issue getting worse. $2500 at local dealership to fix, with gm offering “assistance” to fix issue in the amount of $742 leaving the consumer with balance. At what point will the rest of the defective part deteriorate and cause clogging issues and more damage?.
My car (2022 GMC Acadia denali) died on a busy road (xxx) due to this issue yesterday, the engine just stops at 75 miles per hours, I'm barely made safe to the border of the highway. Fuel management system and engine electrical system were the errors. The fmce module need to be replaced as the dealer technician stated. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contacts stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost velocity while depressing the accelerator pedal. The message "engine power reduced and service traction control" was displayed temporarily. The contact managed to pull over the shoulder of the road and had the vehicle towed to a local independent service lot where it was diagnosed with metal debris in the engine which required an engine replacement. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
Within a day of taking possession of the car, September 20, 2024, with odometer reading 76,352 , warning message in instrument cluster appears stating action required “steering assist is reduced, drive with care”. Following day, a/c stop working while driving. When park, I can hear radiator fan, running full speed (louder than normal). While driving at night, headlights are not bright, specially the high beam. On September 23, 2024, took it back to dealership I purchased the vehicle. They have the vehicle in the shop to fix the issues. Vehicle was ready for pick up September 27, 2024. September 29, 2024. Message in instrument cluster screen re-appear stating “action required, steering assist reduced drive with care”; check engine light came on, remote start key not working, a/c stop working again, radiator fan running full speed and loud , headlights are still not bright, infotainment screen glitching, will not stay in home button and making clicking sound. Went back to dealership so that they can fix it. Diagnostic code : p0128. They were able to have a/c working when I left the shop. And no messages on the instrument cluster. Following day, I have all the same issues I have before. My appointment to come back in to the shop to fix the thermostat issue I was October 10, 2024, on October 9, additional problems occur on top of the issue I am having. While driving and accelerating multiple lights on the instrument cluster screen appears on top of other issues and car decelerates. The check engine light came on, steering assist reduced drive with care , parking brake, car stability comes on and message stating engine power is reduced. This happened while driving on a highway at night on my way to work. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. .
The engine is not shifting properly, and the vehicle loses speed while driving and hesitates to accelerate. At time, it feels as though the car is not moving at all. This issue has occurred on multiple occasions, affecting both me and my family, and has forced us to pull over because the vehicle could barely move forward. This happed once on the highway and almost caused an accident. Additionally, the check engine light remains on at all times.

Transmission gave out.
While starting to drive. It seems like the transmission goes into 2nd shift and the car jerks a little and I have to press the gas pedal to get it to stop.
The traction control turns on and then the shifts don’t work and I can’t drive since there is no speed also the rpm and the gas the speed and the battery gages start flickering up and down then I turn off the truck and it continues to work fine but after 40 miles or so it does it all again.

While driving the vehicle it just shut off for no reason which created a safety hazard! we were then forced to have it towed to a nearby repair shop, because we did not want to take the chance to start the vehicle and have the same thing happen again. The repair shop did their diagnosis and informed us it was a broken timing chain but couldn’t tell us if any other damage was done to the motor, without completely tearing it down. The decision was made to wait and it remains sitting at the repair shop.
Our 2019 was repaired back in 2021 for a "shift to park" issue. This same issue is happening again after 2 years of being repaired. We see that there is a major issue with GMC vehicles and there have been recalls for this same exact issue. GMC coleman, lawrence NJ is refusing to fix problem under a recall. We would like this to be covered or reimbursed.
The vehicle, without any warning, suddenly stopped. I was unable to restart and unable to put the vehicle in neutral for pushing to a safer location. Had to be towed to the dealership.
I keep getting a message for shift to park when my car is already parked. My battery keeps draining for no reason even through my battery is good. I could be driving and my truck just shuts off without warning and my battery dies. Then when it shuts off all these other lights comes on. I have to let it sit for a second then it starts back up. This has been going on for months. I took it to the dealership and they ran all type of test and couldn’t figure out why it was doing it.
A warning popped up on my dashboard stating "power steering reduced. Drive with care. " multiple times. Whenever the warning popped up, my air conditioning would stop working and my engine fan would run very loud. The warning would go off and back on over the course of a year. This started in the beginning of summer, 2024. On 4/3/25 I took it into an auto mechanic shop and after they looked at this warning, they confirmed that the thermostat has an issue where it gets stuck in the "open" position, therefore the thermostat isn't working properly and my car thinks it's over heating, when it's really not. If my car were to overheat while this thermostat wasn't working properly, my engine could overheat or worse. The thermostat part is being replaced today so after today, it won't be available for inspection upon request.
My 2019 GMC Acadia with 33,000 miles on it started to give me a notification to "shift to park" even though I had already shifted the vehicle into park. A "ding! ding! ding!" alarm wouldn't go off and the vehicle wouldn't turn off unless I repeatedly changed the gears until it read it was in park. This went on for a few weeks and got progressively worse. I read on a GMC forum that the vehicle could slip out of gear while driving and potentially cause an accident. My mechanic found the shifter assembly to be defective and replaced the entire gearshift lever assembly. He said there was a plastic piece in the gearshift that snapped off and said this was an issue in the older models but thought GMC had fixed this issue by 2019. Unfortunately, I was past my 3 year / 36k mile warranty and had to fork over $1300 to have it repaired.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with incorrect piston rings which caused excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 218,000.
