Blower Problems of GMC Envoy

GMC Envoy owners have reported 4 problems related to blower (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Blower problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/28/2012

The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. While driving approximately 35 mph with the air conditioner activated, a strong burning odor emitted through the air vents. Suddenly the heater blower failed to operate. The contact continued to drive the vehicle but later discovered that the heater blower wiring connector was melted and had damaged the relay resistor module. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. There was a voluntary recall issued by the manufacturer for the 2006 sierra 1500 vehicle pertaining to the faulty relay resistor module and wire connector but not for the Envoy. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

2 Blower problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Blower motor resistor has failed twice in three months. The second time the 7-wire harness from the controls that selects motor speed had slightly melted around the common wire. I believe this issue to be a fire hazard.

3 Blower problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/21/2006

The blower motor on our 2004 GMC Envoy quit working and upon taking it to the dealer to repair, the dealer indicated that the blower motor resistor and the wiring harness that plugs into the resistor had melted together. When attempting to order the two parts (resistor and wiring harness), it was determined that the wiring harness is on nationwide backorder. The service manager also indicated that he has 5 others on backorder. From that comment, he indicated that there is a major issue with the wiring harness and resistor melting together on a national basis. The fact that the heat was so great to melt these two components together clearly indicates a possible fire and safety hazard. I believe it's something that should be investigated and a recall issued.

4 Blower problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

I turned on the defroster on a cold evening in a GMC Envoy I had rented from national rent a car. It was, I believe, a 2005 model. It was a cold night and the defroster had to be turned on. While driving, five minutes later, a large "crack" was noted. The windshield cracked starting in the exact shape of the central defroster. The single exit defroster is a hazard as heat is too concentrated.
