1 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

2002 GMC Envoy - the cluster package on my truck has completely gone out, I can not see anything on my dash board and when I took it back to the dealer for repairs due to the recall # 03v096000, advised its for calibration only and my vehicle needs a cluster replacement. This is a hazard the cluster package will not restart this is a daily operation.

2 Dash Wiring problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/02/2006

Dash indicator lights come on and stay on when temperatures are cold, mostly air bag, abs, parking brake light, all gauges do not work except speedometer. This problem has no trend other than when it is cold outside, could be coincidental. At times the check engine light was on with other lights. My vehicle only had 18,000 miles on it when this started, but the 3 year warranty was over. GMC will not troubleshoot this problem unless I pay them almost $100 to start, and then a hourly fee. At times, these conditions exist and then later the instruments start working. Does not seem to correlate to vehicle temperature. Lights often stay on during entire trip and gauges are all off. When everything suddenly starts working correctly it does not appear to be because of a bump or warming of the vehicle. In December I took vehicle to GMC, and the service representative indicated problems on work order. He put check battery, of course no troubleshooting took place. Since then I have contacted several GMC dealerships, they all want ridiculous fees to check it out. This vehicle has been kept in the heated garage and barely driven until January 2007. I think this is a safety issue because I don't know if it could cause a fire in the wiring. When the gauges are out, it is not possible to see how much gas you have or if oil/water is low. There is no way to monitor the functioning of the vehicle, or the air bags or the brake system.

3 Dash Wiring problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/21/2006

The blower motor on our 2004 GMC Envoy quit working and upon taking it to the dealer to repair, the dealer indicated that the blower motor resistor and the wiring harness that plugs into the resistor had melted together. When attempting to order the two parts (resistor and wiring harness), it was determined that the wiring harness is on nationwide backorder. The service manager also indicated that he has 5 others on backorder. From that comment, he indicated that there is a major issue with the wiring harness and resistor melting together on a national basis. The fact that the heat was so great to melt these two components together clearly indicates a possible fire and safety hazard. I believe it's something that should be investigated and a recall issued.

4 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/15/2006

Mid June 2006, wife drove to work and stopped at a gas station to get gas. When she restarted the car, the instrument power panel did not work nor any of the instruments such as speedometer. She continued to her job and parked the car. When she left work and started the car, everything was working again. She took the car to a GMC dealer about the problem. They said they could not do anything because everything appears to be working. I have done a search about recalls and found that a recall NHTSA 03v096000 appears to affect me. I am told by GMC that my VIN number does not apply to this recall.

5 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/28/2005

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that he has been experiencing the same failures as noted in recall # 03v096000 (electrical system: wiring: interior/under dash). He has taken the vehicle to the dealer, but the failure still persists. The contact stated that the seat belts continue to lock and the windshield wipers are malfunctioning. The wipers have been replaced numerous times and the failure causes limited visibility in certain weather conditions. The suspension for the arms of the ball joints was replaced and the vehicle continues to shake, shimmer, and make a loud noise. The vehicle was repaired, but the failures are ongoing. When turning, the steering wheel hesitates and causes the vehicle to jerk uncontrollably. When the windows are down, the interior lights dim due to an electrical short. The tires were changed four times, but continued to fail. The contact stated that the brakes have been replaced repeatedly. The dealer stated that the discs were failing due to adverse weather conditions. The current mileage is 68,000 and failure mileage was 38,000. Updated 1/15/09 the catalytic converter, the camshaft, and engine coil was replaced. The check engine light is still on. Updated 01/21/09.
