There seems to be an overwhelming amount of error code po442 in the 2003 GMC Envoy and chevy trailblazers. This code is a faulty gas tank that over time develops a small leak. The only way to fix it is to replace the tank. This cost anywhere between $1000 - $1500 to replace. If there is a gas leak there can be a fire!!!.

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy xl. While approximately driving 55mph the vehicle made an excessive noise as if the vehicle shifted out of gear. The the gear shift indicator became inoperative disabling the vehicle from moving. The dealer stated that the transmission failed. They replaced the pump assembly, input drum shaft, perefeet shift, converter, and the ujc. In addition, she smelled a fuel odor when adding fuel into the fuel tank. The mechanic stated there was a leak in the fuel tank. There is a defect investigation for the fuel system, NHTSA action# ea07009. The failure mileage was 98,000 and current mileage was 108,000. The VIN and engine size were unavailable.
I own a 2003 GMC Envoy. I am the original owner. The service engine light came on so we visited the local dealership to find out what was wrong. Upon testing the vehicle there was a crack found at the stem of the fuel tank. It had been leaking fuel and loosing pressure causing the light to illuminate. The repair bill is around $1400 for a safety hazard that was no fault of mine. The service manager said that it was a bad design due to epa regulations on venting the cap and that he had seen many of these. I contacted gm and they were not willing to help. They offered a discount on a new or used car. There is no current recall but the more I look into this, there have been many issues of this happening. This problem could kill many people.
Leaky gas tank on 2002 GMC Envoy xl. 48,000 miles. Found by dealership, recommended new gas tank for approx $500 plus labor. Service bulletin exists to look for crack in tank per service department.
Check engine light has been on, told to get new gas cap, months later same problem, although this time mechanic found a crack in the neck of the hose that goes into gas tank. As I see in this section, appears to be a common problem. $800 later, I hope GMC will acknowledge the flaw and issue a recall? will this happen with my new tank too?.
When I fill my Envoy with gas, it will not stop when it is full. The gas then spills over onto the side of the SUV and causes me to clean it immediately and smell like gas. I know that it is the SUV and not the pump because it doesn't happen with my other vehicle at the same pump.
: the contact stated while driving 10 mph the vehicle stalled and was maneuvered off the road. When the vehicle was being prepared to be towed the towman noticed gas leaking. The dealer confirmed the leak and determined the tank shifted causing the gas line to crack. The dealer replaced the entire gas tank which corrected the problem.
We have a 2003 GMC Envoy xl. Our check engine soon light came on. We brought it into service twice and each time we left they said fixed, but soon thereafter the warning light came on. We were told they replaced the gas cap. We notice that when we go to fill with gas there is no whoosing sound when we remove the gas cap, and it is very difficult to fill with gas. The pump keeps clicking off like it is full. Some times it take 20 minutes to fuel the auto. We always smell the odor of gasoline. If we drive and stop somewhere, when we get out you can smell the gasoline.
