1 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

I have had an overwhelming smell of gasoline for weeks and my speedometer was only working intermittently. I took my car to an auto store and had them put it on the computer the code read small evap leak so I bought a new gas cap to attempt to resolve the issue. That didn't work so I took my car to the mechanic for it to be checked out as my check engine light came back on. On the first visit he scanned the computer and codes read po 442 & 445 ? small/large emission leak, he checked all components and could find nothing. I took my car back as the speedometer issue was getting worse and the gas smell was still present the same code came up for the emission/evap leak and still nothing for the speedometer issue. He then did a smoke test and found that there was a crack in the filler neck of the plastic gas tank that cannot be repaired and must be replaced. He replaced the speedometer sender which still did not fix the issue. After much research I have found both of these issues to be a serious problem with other Envoy owners. I would like to know why there has not been a recall on these parts and why GMC is leaving the cost of repairs up to the owners. These are manufactureâ??s defects. This is supposed to be a reputable company. I have called into GMC support and they as well as staff at a GMC dealership stated that this was the same issue as was stated in a recall but my VIN number wasn't included so no financial help was given. $1,215. 29 later I have a new gas tank and my speedometer still does not work. This is ridiculous. . . Take ownership for your product malfunctions!!! how many complaints does there need to be before a recall is issued on these vehicle issues?.

2 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2007 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/21/2011

Stopped for fuel and turned off the motor. Filled tank until the pump automatically shut off. Replaced filler cap and tightened to spec. When I turned on the key, the gauges went through normal diagnostics. When I started the Envoy, the fuel gauge immediately went to empy, the low fuel light turned on, and a warning chime rang. While driving, the gauge would fluctuate, but never gave an accurate reading. Eventually, the check engine light also lit after about twenty miles. The next day, the fuel gauge appeared to work normally. However, since the first incident, this has happened with each subsequent fill-up.

4 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/28/2010

Check engine light illuminated on instrument cluster. Diagnostics indicated a code po 442. This code is indicative of a fuel system leak in the evaporative emission system. Replaced gas cap. Problem not resolved. Filled vehicle with gasoline in October 2010 and several times since. Strong odor of gasoline is present. Each time fuel nozzle fails to shut off fuel from gasoline pump and gasoline is spilled on the ground near driver side rear door creating an environmental and major safety hazard. Vehicle never in accident or modified in any way. Vehicle has 62,000 miles. A courtesy general motors repair program is in place for these vehicles if the long wheelbase models. Numerous occurrences in the short wheelbase models also. This is a known defect according to the gm dealer that services the vehicle, but they want over $1500 to replace the fuel tank and the tank unit which includes the fuel pump, gauge, and hose connections. There is no guarantee this will fix the diagnostic code that sets the check engine lamp, or the problem of gasoline leakage/spillage. The vehicle will not pass a state safety inspection and therefore is not allowed on the road. A forced recall should absolutely be made for these vehicles. At a cost of over $35,000 for this vehicle, and the hazards it represents, it is a total travesty that gm refuses to stand behind their product.

7 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/21/2009

The gas tank on my 2003 GMC Envoy XLT (80k miles) is leaking, especially when tank is full. There was a small puddle on the driveway. The problem actually started back around 50k miles with engine light on. I have taken it to dealer and mechanics before, but it was thought to be some sort of fuel cap problem or over sensitive sensors. However, today, because my gas tank was full, the dealer found that there are leaks caused by a crack tank and fuel tank neck. The fuel leak and vapor are so strong that I feared a small spark can set the whole vehicle on fire like a roman candle. Car was used for everyday commute only.

2005 GMC Envoy xl with 49000 miles fuel gauge not working properly, will show empty after filling up then show full. Gauge will then show 3/4 full then 1/2 full after only 10 to 20 miles. Before 100 miles gauge will drop down to empty fuel light will come on and beep. This will happen till tank empty, I never know how much fuel is in truck. I have read that it could be fuel cap, so I replaced it but no fix. I have run out of gas on highway a couple of times already. This problem has been the same through 20 fill ups. Can you help, from what I have heard runs from 600 to 1000 dollars.

9 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/20/2008

2003 GMC Envoy xl-- service engine light came on had vehicle checked. They decided the problem was a fuel cap. Replaced with new cap and service engine light comes back on. Take vehicle back and they check further and tell me I need a new gas tank. Notice when parked on an incline gas is leaking from tank at the inlet from the filler neck. During investigation on internet I've noticed alot of people complaining of the same problem with fuel leaks. Why no recall for fuel tank issues??? I haven't had the vehicle repaired yet because I was searching for possible recall. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to see if they will cover this issue. If the vehicle is leaking fuel on an incline then I'm sure it has vapors escaping on level ground.

14 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/01/2007

I own a 2004 GMC Envoy with approximately 85,000 "highway" miles. My check engine light came on a few months ago an I had it analyzed at a large auto repair chain. It indicated a vacuum leak. The mechanic determined that the top of the pvc gas tank where the inlet value was mounted to the tank during manufacturing was likely the source as there was fuel stains running down the tank from this location! to add some additional support to this matter, the mechanic stated that another general motors vehicle of the same type had the same, exact problem the week before. Obviously this is not my problem alone. I contacted general motors and long story short, they refused to replace the tank because it was out of warranty. The GMC mechanic indicated that if it had 60,000 miles or fewer, he would likely have replaced it for me. I attempted to explain that a fuel leak is a very dangerous problem and I was concerned about my families safety. To explode or burn in an accident, because of this problem was unacceptable. This is not a mileage factor and it is not a wear part, it was simply not properly sealed when it was being manufactured. I feel that general motors should check into this matter as it is a serious safety issue that likely affects many Envoys and trail blazers. I hope that this notice will start a full investigation and a recall. A death from this defective part is very possible. Thank you, kent mayer.

15 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy and there is a gas leak. I bought it in October 2006. In 2007, I took it to a GMC dealership for the check engine light, they said that it was probably caused by my not tightening the gas cap. Since then, I have had problems with pumping gas into tank, problems with a gas smell when the tank is filled or if I go over a bump. Now, there is reduced power. Husband says it is on fuel filler neck. On several web pages, it says there was a recall only I am unable to find any information on it. A lot of people have had this problem, why has it not been recalled? I can't afford another vehicle and what happens if I get in a crash. We have 5 kids that I drive around.

16 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/23/2007

I took my vehicle in for service because it failed emission testing and the repair shop told me that they have seen several vehicles like mine with a similar problem. I found that your NHTSA action number pe07014 is the problem that the repair shop found. I understand that the investigation into this is still open. The repair shop told me to contact the GMC dealer because they felt that the dealer should stand behind the problem and it is a safety issue. Will this become a recall issue and will the dealer need to replace the fuel tank at their expense?.

17 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/26/2007

2002 GMC Envoy has an ses illumination accompanied by a fuel odor, and/or a few drops of fuel on the ground when refueling the vehicle. This is caused by a fracture of a weld on the fuel tank inlet check valve (icv). The icv is located above the full fuel level. A fracture in this area may allow fuel vapors to pass through and allow droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank as it passes over the fracture during refueling.

21 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/02/2006

When filling my gas tank, I have had a few issues with the pump shutting off too quickly as if the tank is full. However, I have also had the opposite at one particular gas station. Each time I got to this particular station, the gas pump clicks off, but gas continues to flow and spills into the tank and all over the vehicle. This only happens with my GMC Envoy and not any other family or friends' vehicles at the same gas station. It happens each and every time with the Envoy so we have had to stop using that station for the Envoy fill-ups. After seeing the many complaints about the cracked gas hose and issues with leaks, I wanted to make sure that someone knows there are a lot of problems with the gas tanks on the Envoys. I am very concerned that the design of the gas tank and assembly is a faulty design and will result in injuries.
