1 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

Noticed that the fuel gauge for the past week has been acting very strange. I had a half tank of gas and drive very little daily (maybe 10 miles) and in 3 days it went from 1/2 tank to empty. I actually thought my gas was leaking out, but no gas spots or leaks. Now, it was on empty, light came on, and started to bing, and the engine light is on also. I filled the car up and fuel light is still on and so is the engine light. Indicating a problem at the fuel gage. I love this car, I have never loved a car more. . . But, now reading all the huge number of people having the same problems. . . And the cost to have it fixed is wayyyyyyyyy more than I can pay or afford. I have been trying to figure out how I am going to pay the first half of my re taxes and my home owners insurance, I used to work for years with auto dealers and with this amount of complaints, the manufacture normally does a recall and fixes this problem. My concern is, if I keep driving it without getting it fixed will I create more problems and the bigger problem is how do I know when I am on empty since it is now always on empty??????.

2 Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

Faulty gas gauge on my 2007 GMC Envoy. Does not show right amount of gas in tank. I have ran out of gas 3 times in the past 2 months. I've tried to keep track of gas by mileage, but that gets tricky.

3 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

Fuel gauge is not working properly on my vehicle. It stays on "e" when there is plenty of gasoline in the car. There have been several complaints about this that I have seen on websites. Ocassionally the gauge willl move up but then go back to "e". I went to dealer and they said it is a bad fuel senor guage which is in the gasoline tank. Seems like this is a common issue and could cause other problems. The fuel gauge has been like that for over 6 months, as the cost was astronomical and I believe there should be a recall. Additionally, recently my oil pressure gauge has shown the max amount and then last night it went down to the lowest amount on the instrument panel. It goes back and forth from high to low and the oil pressure low light comes on the instrument panel and then goes off. It says to stop engine. There does not appear to be anything physically wrong with my engine and I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow to confirm that. I believe both of these issues are caused by a faulty instrument panel or electrical system included in gm's models. I have a family member with an older GMC SUV with similar issues and they also had issues with a GMC truck they used to have but got rid of it, due to the malfunctions. Seems like a very common issue that should be resolved by ge.

4 Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/19/2011

Fuel tank light comes on and off constantly, gauge bounces back and forth. Occurs daily, several times per day. Changed gas cap, did not matter. Hazard and very difficult to judge amount of fuel. Should be a recall! 2007 GMC Envoy with 28000 miles.

5 Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

2007 GMC Envoy fuel gauge not registering correct amount. Swings erratically from full to empty regardless of amount of fuel in tank. This is apparently a common issue with these vehicles based on internet message boards with fuel sensor failure most commonly cited problem. There is a risk of running out of fuel without warning and creating a hazardous driving situation. Have seen on msn that NHTSA is investigating so am adding my complaint to the pile and asking that gm be required to recall these vehicles to correct this defect. I have not paid for sensor replacement at this time.

6 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

A couple months ago my gas gauge started to act up. It was not registering the amount of gas in my fuel tank. I have already been stranded due to no gas and I just don't want it to happen at a critical time and cause and accident! I have a 2006 GMC Envoy. This issue needs to be addressed and handled.

7 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

2006 GMC Envoy: fuel tank sensor shows fuel then doesn't, bounces back & forth. I drive in the mountains and am now very paranoid that my car will run out of gas and leave me stranded on a mountain highway. . . . Very dangerous. Mechanic says error code is po463. I am so afraid to drive my car alone now. . . So I stop gong down & then back up the hill just in case I can put in more gasoline. My car also has a drivers' side master control window that burned. . . . Could have started a fire. When my mechanic took it apart, he showed me the burned areas,. . . Smells bad.

8 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. While parked a warning sound began to indicate to the contact the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge reading indicated the fuel tank was empty. The contact stated the vehicle had been fueled right before the failure occurred. Also, the fuel indicator reading fluctuates and does not show the accurate amount of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The dealer was contacted and stated the fuel level sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. There was an investigation under NHTSA action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system). The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. Ds.

9 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/16/2011

We have a 2006 GMC Envoy that has been experiencing fuel gauge issues. This has caused us to run out of fuel and now not be able to rely on the amount of fuel remaining. This shows both on the analog gauge and the mile remaining section of the suvs dash display system. After filling the fuel tank the guage goes to empty then jumps to full then drops down to empty and then the check engine light goes on. This issue is constant now and creates a distrust in the status of the vehilcle. . I have read many complaints online and no response to fix this persistent issue by GMC.

10 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

Fuel level sensor reads full and goes to empty back and forth and turns on check engine light . This occures with any amount of fuel in tank full to empty. Has not been repaired as gm will not stand behind parts . My concerne is with check engine light on how will I know if something else is to fail , such as brakes ext. Talked to gm complaint dept. And was told they had no knowledge . Yea right. Seems most gm SUV's are having the same problem .

11 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/05/2011

Fuel gauge does not work correctly. The reading on the fuel gauge does not reflect the amount of gas in the tank. Gauge mostly reads empty even after filling up. Sometimes it will show there is more gas than is actually in the tank.

12 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/25/2011

The fuel gauge indicated empty after filling up the tank with 20 gallons. The gauge continued to read empty and the check engine light came on. I have read that this is a common issue for this vehicle. It is obvious this is a manufacturer problem that needs recalled and fixed. It is unsafe to drive the vehicle if you don't know the amount of fuel you have.

13 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/19/2011

After filling the vehicle tank with gasoline, I started the vehicle and the gas gage immediately went to empty and the alarm sounded. The gage recovered after the level dropped to about 1/3 and operated correctly for the rest of the tank. Then the gage became more erratic and has no indication of the amount in the tank. I understand that this has been a common issue with the 2006 Envoy and is very expensive to repair as they must replace the fuel pump and sending unit in the tank.

14 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

The fuel gauge on my 2005 GMC Envoy reads empty and the warning light comes on when there is plenty of gasoline in the vehicle. I can fill the vehicle up, or only put $20 in, and the fuel gauge will still fluctuate between empty and the amount of actual gas in the vehicle. It reads empty most of the time. This is very frustration as a driver never really knows how much gasoline they have in their tank.

15 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/30/2010

The gas gauge is malfunctioning in my 2005 GMC Envoy (VIN # 1gkds13s352359924) whereas it does not register the correct amount of gasoline. . . . . I can fill it completely up and it will show past the empty mark and other times it will show 1/4 tank right after I fill up. I have ran out of gas 3x (fortunately not on a busy thoroughfare), but this can be extremely dangerous not ever knowing for certain how much gas I have in my tank or not. It is so annoying and frustrating and not only that but my gas gauge 'dings' off and on all the time indicating that I am low on fuel even after I have filled the vehicle up.

16 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Gas tank sensor failed October 2010 on 2006 GMC Envoy slt. Shows tank empty regardless of amount of gas put in tank which results in the the 'check engine' light coming on 99% of the time. Cost to repair is approximately $600. Mileage on car was about 60,000 miles.

17 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The fuel gauge became erratic. The first thing that happened was when the fuel tank was filled, the gas gauge went to empty and the fuel light came on as if there were no fuel. It remained that way for some time. It then would fluctuate wildly until a large amount of gas had been used.

18 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

Ran out of gas multiple times, due to the gas gauge not working. Researched issue on the internet and noticed multiple drivers with same issue. Gas gauge does not read correct amount or continuously "empty". Have heard instances of other drivers with rusted/eroded fuel gauge sensor in the gas tank, causing inaccurate gas gauge. Have been stuck in dangerous places after running out of gas.

19 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

My fuel level sensor is failing to tell me the true amount of fuel left in the tank. I often says that the tank is empty but many times it changes from 3/4 full to 1/2 full and sometimes back up to full then empty. I replaced the fuel level sensor and is now working. I do have the old sensor available. 2006 Envoy denali xl.

20 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

My fuel gauge stopped reading the amount of fuel in the gas tank. The low fuel light is now constantly on even when tank is full. Problem not yet fixed cost to fix between$600. 00-$1,000. 00 dollars. Fuel tank sending unit quit working and resulting in inoperable fuel gauge reading.

21 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali. The contact stated that in October 2009, he noticed that the fuel gauge would "flutter" and register that it was empty when he added gasoline to the fuel tank. After consuming five to seven gallons of fuel, the fuel gauge would begin working normal until the it was time to add the maximum amount of fuel in the tank. The check engine light also illuminated and the heater would blow cold air on the driver side and hot air on the passenger side. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the sending unit in the fuel tank was replaced and the heater was reprogrammed; however, the heater still did not function properly. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The current mileage was approximately 46,000.

22 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

Inaccurate fuel gauge reading. Car can run out of gas unless carefully monitored by operator. Gauge became faulty with time when car was 3. 5 years old. At first when tank was filled, the empty light would come on and then suddenly register as full after approximately 20 miles of operation. Gauge now only registers 1/4th tank or not at all after tank is filled. Without careful watch, the car could run out of gas on a highway and be struck or cause significant problems. Dealer estimated cost of repair = $650. 00 and stated that it was a common problem for this make and model. I do not wish to pay this exhorbitant amount for repair. It appears from my research that this is a very dangerous problem and rampant with this make and model.

23 Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

2003 Envoy slt -135,000 miles --ses light on, local mechanic said small evap code indicated inlet checkvalve fracture- they said go to gm dealer for help with this, info printout from local mechanic given to me- "all data motor" said recall spec. Coverage for ext. Size models of Envoys etc. Offered by gm for period of 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. (also 11/04 they did work warranty work on code 440 and replaced seals, tank unit, I think they caused this because I was having the ses light on&off years and just told loose gas cap- so I bought a new one but now this! dealer looked and said "no" after I was there for 5 hrs. Said I could buy a new gas tank @ $1200. I said I didn't have the money. Told I could call gm so I did. Thought I would get "goodwill" help for same problem as they paid for the extended models. I talked to two reps . Rep said my VIN was listed in the coverage range of #'s but not my model. But she proceeded to take my info in order to get me some help. . Dealer called me back 4 days later in a hurry to look at it again with another mechanic that apparently their district gm person said to do. The home office for the gm service person called them with my complaint. They still looked at it and saw the gas leak at the icv and then still just told me "no" that my model didn't qualify for help like the extended Envoys did. I told them it appeared to be the same engineering problem so why wouldn't my model be covered? my service rep just said I would have to buy a tank. I said "no". He said just keep the gas tank below half full. So that is what I have done for the past week. I don't want to trigger that ses light by filling up the tank near that hose inlet. This does not make sense that they will not cover this problem for my model- is there some big difference on extended length? maybe enough short Envoys and trailblazers haven't sought help for the same problem. Is the engineering design of gastank and icv different on the short and long model Envoy??.

24 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

I have owned my 2005 Envoy xl since June of 2006. Once, I passed 36,000 miles, I started experience lots of issues with my vehicle. I started hearing a knocking noise in the rear when I would turn on the ac and the steering was off somewhat. I had the steering fixed for around $400 but the knocking was going to cost around the same amount. Less then 10,000 miles later, the knocking noise is more persistent and is related to issues with the fuel pump. My gas hand will move to empty when I fill the tank up and will not move forward for days at a time. Today, my kids are complaining about the ac not working in the second and third row seats. Everytime I turn the corner it seems as if there is another problem with my vehicle.

25 Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/02/2008

Had just filled the fuel tank and had driven about 5 miles when the check engine light came on and the fuel gauge had gone down to the empty mark setting off the low fuel alarm. Pulled off the road to check the gas cap, and it was installed, but loose. Discovered the o ring gasket was missing from cap. Drove another 10 miles and went to auto parts store and purchased a replacement cap. Engine check light extinguished, but fuel gauge sweeps back and forth, sometimes setting off low fuel alarm. Will call dealer on Monday to see if there is a sb for this. Almost out of warranty.

26 Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/02/2008

I could smell a gasoline odor around my 2003 Envoy (45,860 miles). Took vehicle to coulter of tempe (an authorized gm dealer) and was advised of a leak at fuel inlet to tank pipe area. Was told gas tank would need to be replaced. Gm has had a similar problem with the 2003 Envoy xls and issued a letter dated June 2007 covering the entire amount of replacing these fuel tanks for 10 years or 150,000 miles. This coverage should be extended to all 2003 Envoys and a possible recall issued as this leak at the fuel filler neck seam at the tank is not easily identified unless vehicle is hoisted on a lift. They did offer us a deal where we were charged a warranty deductible of $500, but I feel this repair should have been covered in its entirety.

27 Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/22/2008

In 2008, our vehicle's gas gauge would fluctuate on the amount of gas. We would fill it up and the gauge would show full but as soon as we would start driving would drop down to empty and eventually as of today when we fill out vehicle up all the way, the guage only shows less than a 1/4 full then drops to empty. After filling up the gas tank and the gauge showing full and dropping to 1/4 full then I ran out of gas with my children in the vehicle on the highway, causing my GMC Envoy to shut down and my steering wheel to lock up, luckily I was able to steer off to the shoulder with much force to the wheel. As of today, our gauge no longer rises to show any sort of amount of fuel in the tank. We use the gas used on the dash to keep track or mileage to track when we need to fill up and make sure we don't get down to close to empty. We have not fixed this problem because we have read so many complaints that there should be a recall made by GMC. I have called GMC and asked if there was a recall for our vehicle and to my surprise none! I believe GMC needs to correct their manufacturer defect!.

28 Tank Mounting problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

The cluster gauge quit working. First the gas gauge stopped reading the amount of gas in the tank. Second, the speedometer and tachometer quit reading. About a month later the oil pressure gauge stopped working. Currently out of the entire cluster gauge system the battery meter is the only gauge that works.

29 Tank Mounting problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/27/2007

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The vehicle was purchased on September 29, 2004 and the mileage was 90. On March 27, 2007 tightened gas cap light came on. On March 30, 2007 the dealer stated that there was a leak coming from the neck hose connected to the gas tank and the fuel pump. The dealer stated that the gas tank had to be replaced. The contact was concerned about the safety risk involved considering the year of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 38,200, and the current mileage was 39,600.

30 Tank Mounting problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

A year after the purchase of my new 2004 GMC Envoy xuv my service engine light came on and an authorized service tech said I needed a new gas cap because of a small vapor leak. I bought the new cap and a few months later the engine light came on and again I bought another cap. From then I had been told by different mechanics that the vapor leak is coming from the nozzle the cap attaches to but today for the first time I was told I would fail my smog check because the vapor leak according to their diagnostics was not coming from the nozzle, but somewhere else near the tank. After research on recalls and complaints, I found out that my problem was similar to other complaints, that being the gm service bulletin 05-06-04-014a: info - diagnostic aids for trouble codes p0440, p0455 & / or p0442 fuel was leaking from the crack, and that the 2002 - 2004 Envoy may have issues with a crack in the gas tank filler neck as well. I checked out the assembly system and yep my filler tank connection from hose to tank is loose and showing evidence of gas leaking down the tank. It wasn't a small vapor leak, it is a mushroom cloud event just waiting to happen to my backside! the interesting part of this disaster is that they did this as far back as I could search, so far as early as 2001. Gm had advised their mechanics that the problem was resolved and redesign of the system was in place with welded units attaching the components, rather than rubber booting to plastic tanks. I have the internal memo of their declarations for three years so far. Today, I'm in possession of a loaded bomb and see that TSB's are issued for years through 2009. Plus theres a discrepancy with service warranties of 10 years or 120,000 miles vs 150,000, I have those internal documents from gm to the dealers as well. I cant afford this. Other Envoy owners I've talked to are saying the same things exactly.
