GMC Envoy owners have reported 229 problems related to gasoline fuel system (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Seems that the fuel gauge reads empty even after I fill it up. It will chime, illuminate the low fuel light and read --- for range left till empty. This has been a known issue. After you drive and use about 5 gallons it will then go from f to e every few minutes and then the check engine light comes on with code p0463. This has been a known issue. Gm stated that they did send out at one time a offer to pay half of the associated cost if we chose to fix this and it was only available for a short time. I was deployed overseas at the time so I never got that mail and I would not have been able to do anything at that point in time anyway, however they could have allowed me to do it upon my return, nope!!! they said that there is nothing that can be done now, and it is viewed on a case by case basis. They told me to see their liaison at my local dealership, he will then call the gm rep. It has now been over a week and still no reply. When I called gm back on my own, it seems they closed my case but did not have a reason why it was closed and I was placed from one supervisor to another. I have repaired or replaced so many thing on this SUV in excess of 7k already its not funny. ( power pedal relay, and module, self leveling suspension, ac control head, fan clutch motor, ac accumulator, entire fuse block, entire short block of engine and half the top end. )now the heat and ac system are giving me issues with the actuator door as well as the control box where no air comes thru the dash vents only the floor and GMC stated that is a known problem that has affected many but that there is no recall on that either. Of course now I am over the allotted mileage and warranty. Some of us live in rural areas where its not a quick trip to a local store but a 17 mile round trip just to get to a small store.

Wind shield wipers would go on . Now they won't go off. Engine light wont go off feels like the car is going to stall out. Mechanic said it will get worse and will start stalling out. I see a lot of complaints on these cars about the same thing I have going on. My gas gauge wont work. I brought my car for the recall for the drivers door last year and now my keys won't unlock the doors. Only the remote will open it. When I called about the doors and windows not working they said my VIN wasn't under recall I called you and you got it fixed for me. I think they need to check the electrical problems on the Envoys. I have the same complaints so something is wrong with these vehicle.

General motors issued a special coverage adjustment-fuel level sensor contact wear notice # 10054e to cover 100% of replacing a malfunctioning fuel gauge. My fuel gauge malfunctioned as outlined in the notice and I had my fuel gauge repaired at my own expense. When I learned of the special coverage, I completed the general motors product field acton customer reimbursement request form and sent the required copies of receipts that showed all required information to hendrick GMC via fax on 9/13 and hand delivered the same information on 10/4. I have never received my refund for the repair I paid for out of pocket. I have called and e-mailed the general manager of hendrick GMC; I have called and tried to speak to him. I called the 800 number provided in the notification to file a complaint. I have left messages for a team leader at the customer assistance center and he has not returned my calls nor are they sending me the promised refund. I believe that this special coverage adjustment is just a way for GMC to not to have to issue a recall, and they are picking and choosing who they are refunding. GMC should not be allowed to use such a dishonest ploy to avoid paying to repair a defect.

We were driving at night and the head lights went out leaving us in the dark. We have checked the fuses but they are all fine. The fuel gauge does not come off of empty even though we fill it up.
I was driving down a hill at approximately 45 miles per hour, when suddenly my Envoy just shut off. The vehicle did not accelerate when I pressed on the gas, so I pulled into the first side road to avoid being stuck on a main roadway and when I turned, I had a difficult time turning because the vehicle was off, actually I turned into the wrong side of the road ( thank god there was no incoming traffic). I let my Envoy glide as far as it would go until I felt it was some what safe. Parked the Envoy, then tried to turn it back on, the engine would turn over, but would not turn on. I had the towing CO. Stop at autozone to look into the lit check engine light and they came up with code p0463, failed fuel sending unit. This was a very scary situation for I could of gotten into a fatal accident!!!.
My dad was driving his 2003 GMC Envoy xl home from work and he felt a small explosion and saw black smoke out of his rear view mirror. So he pulled over, got out, and there were flames underneath the car. Within 5-10 minutes the car exploded. A fire fighter and state trooper pulled over to help him, and they both said the fire looked like it started from a fuel leak because the flames were "dripping" under the car. After researching recalls and complaints, I am infuriated that there were so many complaints filed over this problem, and even an investigation was done, but it was not considered serious enough to be a recall. I can't even think about what would have happened if he had waited to pull over at the next exit or the first explosion had been bigger. Apparently, this is a problem with almost all years of this model since 2002. I hope nothing like this, or something worse, happens to anyone else. . . Updated 02/19/15 . . . Air conditioner quit working on level 5, would work on level 1-4, level 5 would keep turning off. Shortly after this within the same day I could smell something burning coming through the air vents. Mechanics noted and showed me that the resistor plugs on the back had burned and melted together, that's what was causing the burning smell. Needed a new resistor, pig tail, and blower. Also my fuel gauge and rpm are broke, have not been working for the past 3 years.
Fuel gauge stopped working and the front end sounds like its loose. I have a five year old and can;t even tell when I'm low on gas and I'm not sure what's going on with the front end.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and failed to provide the correct fuel level reading. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuel sensor and the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.
Strong oder of fuel, ses light on, leak from neck or pump (unsure of exact location).
Gas gauge reading was sporadic and finally went to empty with the out of fuel warning light and out of fuel warning buzzer on.
I received a letter from GMC stating that they had a known issue with the fuel sensor on my vehicle, would pay half to have it repaired. Within two weeks my fuel sensor gauge is floating from full to empty and the check engine light for emission comes on when the float starts. Why must I pay for repairs for something that is obviously defect on the vehicle if all of the other complaint are anything to go by?!.
The vehicle's fuel gauge went to full while driving down the road. It started moving all over the place and now goes to empty upon fill up at the gas station. The more you drive the more fuel it reads. The gauge floats all over the place and vehicle has now ran out of gas twice while driving down the road. Gm was contacted and explained it is a known issue and at first offered no help. Upon talking to several 'managers' they agreed to cover 50% because they know there is a problem. The cost is still over $250 for the repair. Why does the owner have to cover the cost of a known problem part? why is gm not responsible for this?.
Faulty fuel guage went out again for the second time. First time it happen the vehicle was under warranty. This time it is not covered. We have taken this truck to the shop twice to work on the the dash board instrument cluster. (oil, battery , fuel).
In February of 2012 I began to notice a very large odor of gasoline coming from the rear of the vehicle. I have owned this car since September of 2009 and this has just become and issue. Looked up vehicle recalls and came across this. Summary: on certain sport utility vehicles, a fuel filter fitting can become disconnected. If this were to occur while attempting to start the engine, a no-start condition would result and fuel would be pumped out the fuel filter onto the ground. Consequence: if the fitting becomes disconnected while the vehicle is in motion, the engine would stop due to inadequate fuel supply and cause a loss of power steering assist. If an ignition source were present, fuel leakage from a disconnected fuel filter fitting could result in a fire. Actions: dealers will replace the fuel filter quick connect retainers. Owner notification began September 20, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537. For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official NHTSA page concerning recall #02v121000 â»

Fuel gauge fluctuates between full and empty. Gauge does not show fuel levels.
At start up, when car is cold, there is a strong fuel smell. Was told it was something in vapor recovery system.
Gas smell near rear of vehicle when parked, after driving.
Low fuel warning light does not come on. - this is the third time that I nearly ran out of fuel without any warning. The engine stalled; however, I was able to restarted it and there was just enough fuel for me to limp into a gas station.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would read inaccurately, causing the fuel sensor to activate. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and made an attempt to cover a portion of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.
Gasoline and oil pressure gauges stop working suddenly on a GMC Envoy 2005.
My 2006 GMC Envoy fuel level guage has started reading empty after filling with fuel. I have been using my odometer to keep track of miles since last fill up. It has been giving sporatic readings and can not be trusted. This could cause a dangerous situation if I was to run out of gas in traffic or on some loney road in the country at night. Gm is aware of this situation but is only offering to pay 50% at their exorbinate service rates.
My gas gauge has been inaccurately giving the proper fuel level. Today I noticed the gauge is now stuck way past the "full" level" and does not move.
Fuel gage is faulty as it provides inaccurate and random fuel level readings while driving.
Air bag warning light on. Fuel gauge sensor malfunction.
In early August 2011, the fuel gauge began reading erratically for no apparent reason. In early September 2011, the problem caused me to run out of gas while driving. Fortunately, it did not pose a danger, but it could lead to being rear-ended--potentially a very dangerous situation! so far, we haven't fixed the problem but will closely monitor the trip odometer for now.
Fuel gauge is erratic. This appears to be a very common problem. Dealer said the fuel level sensor is defective. I have 58,000 miles on my 07 Envoy denali. Safety is a concern now that I do not know how much gas I really have.
I own a 2005 GMC Envoy and the gas gauge sensor has stopped working. I believe there should be a recall on this prioblem because it has happened to a lot of these vehicles.
Fuel gauge problem - GMC Envoy.
Our 2005 GMC Envoy has always had a faulty fuel gauge and has caused our family to be stranded a few times without gas while traveling far from home. We took it into a GMC dealer who wanted $ 950 for parts and repairs. We just don't have that kind of money. GMC has always been aware of this problem and has not offered to fix it nor have a recall on this faulty gas gauge. 856,000 gm suvs under investigation for faulty fuel gauges federal regulators are investigating 865,000 general motors suvs, including the 2005- ?07 Chevrolet trailblazer and Buick rainier, for faulty fuel gauges that are inaccurate. The 2005-?06 Chevrolet trailblazer ext, the 2005-?07 GMC Envoy, the 2005-?06 GMC Envoy and the 2005-?07 SAAB 9-7x are also affected vehicles being investigated.
I bought my vehicle used in 2006 and have had problems with it stalling several days a year. Now my gas gauge is not working. I fill it up and it starts blinking with the red light that its empty.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali. The contact stated that after refueling, the fuel gauge displayed a reading of empty and the check engine light illuminated. The fuel gauge had since constantly displayed inaccurate readings. The contact replaced the fuel cap, but the failure continued. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed, but the contact received a letter from the manufacturer acknowledging that they were aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I bought a use 2006 GMC Envoy denali with 69,000 mile in June 2010, by July I was replacing the air shocks on the right side of the vechicle. On about 7/28/2011 on the beltway where the speed limit is 65 I was in the far left lane approaching a left hand exit when my car staled, I had run out of gas with no indication. I wait over a hour for someone to come put gas in my truck at about 100 degree tempature. I later ran out of gas on a back road coming to my house at night. Again no indicator light came on to let me know I was low on gas. Not the gas gauge floats between fuel and empty contionusly. This was a very dangeous and scary situation both times. I flasher were on the whole time and I had to change the battery. Now the air will not come out of the vents only the floor and defrost. But the most important thing is the gas gauge, I could have me involved in an accident both time.
