GMC Envoy owners have reported 229 problems related to gasoline fuel system (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
July 26, 2011 I filled my vehicle up with gas and noticed that my gas gauge showed that my vehicle was on empty. . . . After driving it for about an hour the gas gauge started working properly. Over the next month
it continued to do this off and on. Then I received a letter from GMC stating they are aware of this
problem with 2005 GMC Envoy'(weird how the letter appeared as I was starting to have the issue) and that they would pay 50% of my cost to have it repaired at a GMC dealership. Within two weeks my fuel gauge
stopped working all together. I never know how much gas I do or do not have in my vehicle. What if I run
out of gas in the middle of traffic!! this could be dangerous !! GMC is aware of this problem and should consider it a recall and repair this issue at no cost to the consumer.

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed an empty reading after refueling. The fuel gauge began to display a normal reading the following day. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. There was an investigation under NHTSA action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that may be related to the failure. The contact also stated that one of the settings for the fan stopped functioning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the wiring harness for the blower motor was melted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 89,980.

Just as I just filed a complaint yesterday my car for the first time turned off. I was the must scary thing that ever happen to me. My 2005 GMC Envoy has been having problem with the gas gauge. I would fill up but it would show empty. So this was what happen yesterday. I was leaving work around 3pm and just as I ease pulling out of the parking lot I felt something was wrong. I step on the gas pedal the car didn't go as fast then out of no way the car got harder to drive. The steering wheel got harder to turn. I knew I had to get out of the streets before someone hit me. I turned to make a turn into the gas station but as I was turning my car completely stop half way into the gas station. So just picture my car in a turn position in the street trying to pull up into the gas station. I was then truly thankful three stranger came out to help me. I don't know what I would have done, especially being a young women, and a mom. I also glad my son was not in the car with me especially if something bad would have happen. I'm just glad I was not on the freeway yet or at night. Please help me figure out why my car is doing this.

The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact was stopped at a red light when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated the vehicle stalled due to the lack of fuel in the vehicle however, he was unaware of the lack of fuel in the vehicle. The fuel level gauge was providing inaccurate fuel level readings and the contact was made aware of the failure through a diagnosis by the on-star system. The contact called the dealer and the dealer advised that there were no recalls regarding the fuel gauge failure. The failure mileage was 91,450.

I bought a 2005 GMC Envoy used but in good shape. After about 5000. Miles the speedometer started to read 120 mph. It reset itself a couple of times but now it's completely stuck at the 120. Also the gas gauge sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. I can fill it up and it will ding and the light comes on and it won't show a drop of gas on the gauge. Then a day or so later it will be fine. Also the check engine light is on. I replaced the gas cap since the owners manual said it could be a faulty gas cap. It helped for a few days but it's back on. After reading all these reviews and complaints I'm sorry I bought it. I don't have the money to keep getting it fixed. It cost a $100. 00 for the dealer just to hook it up so they could tell me it needed a speedometer head. (?) that will only cost $468. 00. But that won't fix the check engine light or the gas gauge. I'm worried that I'll get a ticket because the speedometer doesn't work or run out of gas when the gas gauge isn't working.
Fuel gauge not recording properly. Fluctuates from empty to full.
The gas gauge on my 2006 GMC Envoy always registers at "e. " I have talked to GMC and there is no help with this situation though there have been hundreds of complaints on the same thing. When I called customer service they were rude to me and didn't give me a customer complaint number. I am having to gage my gas by keeping track of the mileage through the trip-ometer. Thank you for any assistance you can give me on this issue.
2006 Envoy denali check engine light came on fuel gauge stopped working properly. Dealer says it is the sending unit. If this is common shouldn't there be a recall.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali xl. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The fuel gauge also fluctuated between empty and full andwould not provide an accurate reading. The dealer was informed of the fialure and the contact was awaiting a service appointment. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The current mileage was approximately 56,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
GMC Envoy 2006 fuel gauge bad reading, my car ran out gas when the fuel gauge show full.
I have a 2003 GMC Envoy. From the beginning I've had problems with the electrical working properly (rearview mirrors, seat controls, etc). Also, my fuel indicator and speedometer both went out at the same time. I believe GMC should take responsibility for the default and request a recall. I have read numerous complaints dealing with the very same issues on models from 2003 thru 2011.

My fuel gauge is now always on empty stalled right at the gas station my blower for heating and air only works on 3 of 5 levels.
The fuel gauge reads empty after fill ups.
The fuel gage stays on empty with the low fuel indicator light illuminated once you fill the vehicle to full and then the check engine light comes on, after several hours the fuel gage will move to the full mark and the check engine light may or may not go out. Leaving you unsure with the amount of fuel you have in vehicle. This occurs even after shutting the vehicle off and on.

Fuel gauge has not worked for approximately 18-24 months; must use trip meter to determine number of miles traveled for calculation of next fill-up. Low fuel indicator light is always on. Engine indicator light appears upon each refill and eventually goes off after a number of miles are traveled. Current odometer reading: 75,314.
Gas guage not operating properly.
I own a 2005 GMC Envoy xuv with approximately 64000 miles on it. The complaint I wish to report is a malfunction with the fuel level sensor. The fuel level sensor has stopped working and reads empty constantly, even when the vehicle is full of fuel. The sensor chimes a warning sound to indicate fuel is low. This has been an issue for us for 5 months. We have spent much time researching this issue to try to repair it ourselves, and it has seemed to be an issue that needs dealership attention. I was in process of scheduling an appointment with GMC, when a letter from GMC arrived in the mail. They were able to locate us by our VIN. In the letter, GMC fully acknowledges the faulty fuel level sensor and offers to pay 50% of repair costs at a certified GMC dealership. Although I appreciate their offer, the repair will still be approximately $200 at 50%. I am writing today to let my voice be heard that the last few months dealing with this issue have been extremely challenging. I have had to be constantly aware of my exact mileage, and fearful of running out of fuel, stranded on the interstate with my family. To me, it is a safety issue that GMC should repair as a courtesy to their customers. We purchased this vehicle because of the reputation of an american company and am hoping that others along with us will report this issue.
The fuel guage reads empty and the fuel light comes on when there is gas in the Envoy. This started a few weeks ago and I never know how much gas is in the Envoy.
The fuel gauge would have different readings while driving. Gm replaced the fuel level gauge at a cost of $400.
Inacurate fuel gage.
Hello, I want to file a complaint about my 2006 GMC Envoy. I've recently been having issues with my fuel gauge, when I fill up my gauge says I'm empty and then slowly creeps back up to full, however, it then fluctuates between full and empty and never gives an accurate reading. I feel this can cause a huge issue for people if they don't know their gauge isn't accurate.
Problem with my gas gauge in just turned 40,000 mi. Add fuel light comes on even after fill up. Also gauge goes back and forth during operation of the car. When the gauge hits empty a bell goes off and the low fuel light goes on. Eventually the check engine light will also go on indicating there is an issue. Very concerned about breaking down and consider it a personal safety issue. Local GMC dealer has no clue there was a problem with gas gauges. Tried to ignore the problem but just got worse decided to get it fixed $900.
I have a 2007 GMC Envoy that the gas gauge shows that there is more gas than actually is. I have ran out of gas a couple of times.
-fuel guage was acting funny, would go from full to empty and not read the correct fuel level. - dealer stated that the guage had gone bad and it was replaced under extended warranty, cost was covered less deductable.
I have a 06 Envoy denali it started with the check engine light being on, I was told by a mechanic that it needs to be reprogramed which worked until I drove a few miles then came on again. . Then my fuel indicator stop working stays on e when I fuel up. Now the other day I lost power in my gas peddle(read low pressure) then the car died. It started up but didn't have enough power in the peddle. Waiting for mechanic to look at it.
2006 GMC Envoy ran out of gas on a busy road going to work while the gas gauge read that there was gas in the vehicle.
I read in the newspaper that the NHTSA had opened an investigation concerning 2006 GMC Envoy gas gauge problems. I have the same problem as many others with the gauge fluctuating. This should be considered a safety issue since it could cause someone to be stranded. I have 53000 miles on my Envoy and this problem started about a month ago.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was inoperable and she was unable to determine how much gas was actually in the vehicle causing her to run out of gas intermittently. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and no repairs were performed. The current mileage was 95,100 and the failure mileage was 94,000.
2005 GMC Envoy xl has several issues with the instrument cluster. The battery and temperature gauges are reading off the scale past their maximum readings. It should also be noted that this vehicle also had issues with the fuel gauge sending unit and the engine thermostat.
Fuel gauge started acting up and going from full to empty. Within days it completely quit working and now shows empty when full. The check engine light also came on.
I own a 2006 Envoy. I have had several incidents of my vehicle shutting down while driving. Each time the road service indicated that my vehicle was out of fuel even though the fuel gauge read I had more than a sufficient amount. Even after they put fuel in my vehicle it wouldn't start without a boost. This happened twice when I was on the freeway which is very dangerous. Due to my financial situation I haven't been able to get this problem fixed.
