Fuel leak coming from top of gas tank. I suspect it is the fuel pump module. Severe rust and limited visibility prevented me from identifying 100 percent. Talked to gm, they know of the problem but since it happened 14,000 miles beyond their extended special warranty for this, they will do nothing. Bad design is a bad design regardless of miles or years. Very dangerous having a leak this bad. Will fix myself when I come up with the money.
I took my vehicle to the GMC dealership because of a distinct gas odor by the vehicle. I had previously received a cautionary letter from GMC that there could be a problem with the fuel pump involving pooling and pitting and extending the warranty to ten years to correct the defect. The inspection at the dealership stated that there was a "fuel leak from the top of the fuel tank area-fuel pump module leaking" the service advisor was sufficiently concerned to offer me a replacement vehicle to drive until the repair was made. He said that if I were to hit something and create a spark I could be in jeopardy. I was also concerned about a stray cigarette butt thrown out a window. He also gave me the customer assurance telephone number to call to file a claim. I did call the next morning and information was given and I was given a case number and told that the "district " would call me. When I received the call from that office she told me they would call me the following day. Ten minutes later she called back and said that gm would not offer any assistance. They obviously knew there was a potential problem or they would not have sent out warning letters. I believe it should have been a recall considering the potential hazards involved. I wonder how many people did not read the letter and subsequently had repairs made at their own expense so they never reported the problem. It was a costly repair and I feel they should have covered the expense. I count myself lucky that it is not my serviving family filing this complaint.
Fuel pump outlet tube was found corroded through after informing the local GMC dealer of gasoline odors when getting out of vehicle. This vehicle was purchased new in brandon, florida and has always remained in florida.
Fuel gauge malfunctions and will not work properly. When vehicle is filled to full tank level, there is a click sound and the gauge goes all the way to the empty position, then warning light and very low fuel indicator light comes on. This is the 2nd gm vehicle I have had problems with. Once the warranty expires everything starts to go wrong such as fuel pump/sensor, radiator/fan motor, a/c, front wheel bearings. The more I try to maintain these vehicles the more problems. I will purchase a Honda, Nissan, Toyota next time.

Gas gauge bounced around intermitently for weeks regardless of fuel level. Now it just reads empty. Air compressor hasn't worked since last November. Fuel pump went out last night. Remote keyless entry has never worked. Check engine light is always on. What a lemon. Will never buy GMC ever again.
The fuel system started to malfunction around the fist week of sept 2010. I was going on vacation stopped to get gas, after filling up the gas gage read empty and the warning light came on. After shutting the Envoy off and restarting it the gage seemed to work. As the days went on the gage completely quit working and the low fuel light has remained on. I reset my trip meter after every fill up, how annoying. I am not the only consumer with this complaint. I rec'd a letter that gm states its the fuel level sensor. . . The only fix a new fuel pump from a dealer at 50% off? who can afford dealer prices? this is obviously a defect that gm is failing to own up to. Any help would be appriciated.
2004 GMC Envoy. Customer requested fuel sending unit to be replaced. Upon speaking with other Envoy owners this is a common occurrence in corrosion areas, namely nova scotia. The leak was found after owner smelled a constant gas odor around the back driver wheel well. When the gas tank was taken down for inspection the modular reservoir assembly, which contained the fuel pump, developed corrosion of the fuel fee/return pipes after an extended period of time. The modular reservoir assembly had to be entirely replaced on September 28, 2010. The vehicle only had 88,546km.

2006 GMC Envoy fuel gauge started to work erratically - would go to empty after car was filled up. Eventually stopped working altogether and the check engine light would cycle on and off. My wife drives this truck to work and could have a serious problem if she ran out of gas on the freeway. Luckily, the first time it ran out of gas was in a residential neighborhood. Took it into the shop and was told that they couldn't just replace the problem part (which is the fuel sensor) and need to replace the entire fuel pump at a cost of nearly $1100. 00 updated ivoq 08/24/10.
2004 GMC Envoy. Consumer requests reimbursement for fuel module replacement in October of 2008, the consumer received a notification that some 2004 model year GMC Envoy vehicles operated in one of the corrosion areas such as new york. The fuel tank modular reservoir assembly, which contained the fuel pump, could develop corrosion of the fuel fee/return pipes after an extended period of time. The consumer stated she kept the letter in case she had a problem in the future. On August 10, 2010, she started smelling a constant strong gas smell inside and outside of the vehicle. When the consumer went to the dealer for her scheduled appointment, the manager pointed out that the notice stated that GMC would only provide an extended coverage within 10 years of the date the vehicle was originally placed in service or up to 120,000 miles. The consumers vehicle had 124,979 miles on it at the date of service. The consumer contacted several managers at GMC to see if she would qualify for reimbursement for the known issue, but was denied on each call.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. When driving the vehicle at any speed the contact noticed an overpowering gasoline odor coming from interior and exterior the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the cpc and module kit where replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileage was 124,000. I'm having the same issue with the fuel gauge on my 2005 GMC Envoy. I can register 1/4 a tank but the minute I fill, the gauge drops below empty and the fuel light comes on. I have to drive at least 25 miles to have it register even a 1/4 of a tank and a full 70-85 miles for the gauge to get to show a more accurate level. The mechanic I went to admitted it was the fuel level sensor causing the issue but advised me that I had to replace the entire fuel pump. He quoted $505 for the fuel pump and an additional $360 for the labor its not fixed I don't have the money, what happens if I run out of fuel on the highway or on a tight turn on a hill and the car shuts down and the steering locks? I've read 1000's of complaints and horror stories about this and no recall. This is extremely dangerous!.
Fuel leak due to corrosion of the fuel pump/sender assembly.
GMC Envoy denali xl 2006 fuel guage issue. 1st incident - fuel guage showed 1/4 tank gas available while travelling in I-70 IL when vehicle ran out of gas while travelling at 65mph passing semi truck. Other vehicles behind me had to react to immediate slow down of our vehicle. Managed to successfull pull over to verge of road without incident. Not realizing fuel guage was faulty a week later similar situation occured - ran out of gas as I was pulling up to an intersection - lights had just turned red and I was unable to apply enough pressue to brakes as we were heading downhill that I went through red light and 2 cars had to take evasive action to avoid crashing in to me. 2 young children in car at the time of incident. Realizing there was an issue - entire fuel pump system was replaced - total cost over $800.
2006 GMC Envoy - fuel gauge shows empty regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. Since I have no idea how much fuel is remaining, I have run out of gas several times, including a couple on the interstate. The problem started around October of 2008, but costs almost $700 to fix, started at 37500 miles so it was just out of warranty, and there are hundreds of postings online about this problem stating it's a defect with the fuel pump.
Fuel gage in our 2006 GMC Envoy first became erratic then failed. Took vehicle to local reputable repair facility. They informed me that the sending unit on the fuel pump is known to fail in this vehicle. Had to replace fuel pump (I was told fuel pump and sending unit were one piece). The fuel gage began to to work again once fuel pump/sending unit were replaced. The total repair was expensive (parts and labor).
In reference to dp10-001. I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that has an erratic gas gauge as well. After re-fueling the vehicle, the gauge will go to empty and illuminate the empty tank warning light. After driving about 20 miles, the gauge will return to the full position, but will fluctuate occasionally. I have had the problem diagnosed as possible faulty sending unit, faulty gauge and faulty sensors on the fuel pump assembly.
This problem noted below is very very common in both chevy trailblazers and GMC Envoys. Here's one link with over 200 descriptions of this same problem. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge fluctuates while driving various speeds. The dealer stated that the fuel pump sensor failed and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that she would be responsible for the repair costs since there were no recalls. The failure mileage was 46,000. Updated 06/24/09. Updated 06/26/09.
Fuel pump not reading gasoline levels causing the gauge in the dash not to work and be on empty at all times. Fuel light also stays on.
Fuel system: the fuel gage has been going to empty after a fill up. After about 50 miles it would appear to work until more gas added. Now it is in total failure with an obd light intermittently. Obd light useless as no way to immediately determine if the gauge is the only problem. Have been using the trip odometer to approximate fuel remaining for more than 10k miles. Fear is that the associated fuel pump will fail as is all one part.
2004 Envoy with approx. 47,000 . Had to replace fuel tank due to fracture around filler neck and replace oxygen sensor . Was informed extended warranty on fuel tank modular reservoir assembly which contains the fuel pump did not include filler neck I had to pay 1'551. 16 dollars for repair.
2005 GMC Envoy; the fuel gauge has been acting crazy lately, so I decided to research this matter on the internet, and have been finding more and more incidents where the gas gauge either stays on empty or fluctuates from empty back to full and eventually stops working. At appx. 46,000miles, my gas gauge started doing the same as previously stated, going from empty to full, and sporadically repeating this even if the fuel tank was fuel. The fuel gauge being at the empty level, but the tank is fuel, causes a constant alarm bell to go off every 10 seconds or so, everytime you get in the vehicle. I have been trying to find the fuel sensor to replace it, but it seems that you have to purchase the hole fuel pump assembly which runs around $400, and I am not going to replace it, if everyone that has a GMC Envoy or chevy trailblazer are all having the same problems. From what I gather, from my research, everyone seems to have the same problem on all forums that I have read. My vehicle only has 51,000miles on it right now, and this problem has been occurring for about 3 months now.
The fuel gauge shows empty even when the tank is full. After the gauge has read empty for a while, the engine light then comes on. This is going to cost me 724. 00 to get fixed, b/c the fuel pump needs replacing.
Fuel gage no longer works on my 2005 GMC Envoy. Which from reading blogs means I need a new sending unit, float, and fuel pump. Have found many blogs on-line about this very problem with Envoys and trailblazers.
My 2006 GMC Envoy's gas gauge has been fluctuating from empty to full on fill ups for over 2 months and now it is stuck on empty even when tank is filled. My mechanic said it would cost $800 to replace the fuel sending unit and fuel pump. Many other owners have similar issues.
Fuel pump outlet tube corroded through causing a release of fuel under pressure, which sprayed over the top of the gas tank and ran down both sides of the tank, I feel this could have easily caused a fire with any type of ignition source. This premature failure (5 years) cost over $1,000. 00.
Strong odor of gas coming from inside and outside of vehicle. Truck is currently in shop to replace fuel sensor and fill neck.
