GMC Envoy owners have reported 8 problems related to horn assembly (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle will abruptly go from 70 mph to 30's (semi-trailer closing in fast) and I can't do a thing about it!! service stabilitrack has been a thorn while under warranty and persists to be a problem now that it is out of warranty! from early on, <10,000 miles and over 10 times since, this vehicle had been in to two different dealers and the problem, though intermittent, still exists and is a huge danger to me and my kids but I can't just go buy another car or trade this in like some people (including the car dealership managers) portray is the best option when I should be able to get gm to fix the car or replace it when they can't seem to figure out why the problem persists. But that hasn't been the only problem: gear band broke twice on the transmission, had to have transmission rebuilt because of faulty radiator, and other issues however none of the problems remotely compare to having taken it in for service because of the repeated unexplained DE-acceleration and loss of ability to make the car do anything except pull to the side of the road and give it ten minutes to stop having a "tantrum" of sorts while traffic whizzes by and thankfully didn't hit us (yet). Exterior / aesthetics, I love this vehicle but poor function and even worse service of problems. I've reported it to corporate but they don't care and despite it having had been into the dealership numerous times prior to end of warranty, now they just want me to start paying them for all these fixes that haven't fixed anything. Once I started paying for fixes and then started complaining that they aren't covering what they've never fixed; the manager had the nerve to say he'd pay for it out of his own pocket if he knew it would fix it . . . Hello. . . Why should the consumer pay for it when the problem is never really fixed.

The oil gauge went out first and the dealer stated the oil sending unit need to be replace and it would cost me over 300. 00 dollars, then next the engine coolant gauge starting going crazy. I took my car back for an oil change and was told the instrument panel cluster needs replacing. I went back to have my engine coolant gauge look at by the dealer because I did not want to be stranded somewhere with my 4 year toddler in the car and paid for the dealer to replace the engine coolant thermostat based on their instructions. Still my oil pressure gauge was pegged out and now the speedometer gauge has completely stop working, so I took my car back to the GMC dealer and was told the instrument panel cluster need to be replace and that would take care of the oil pressure gauge too. I would have to pay over $570. 00 dollars to replace instrument panel cluster and that there is no way to fix the oil pressure gauge by itself. I am very upset after being quoted and told the first time by the dealer that they could fix the oil pressure gauge at one price and now tell me that without replacing the instrument panel cluster for the speedometer gauge they are unable to repair the oil gauge. I need assistance with this problem due to this is my only vehicle in which to take my preschool child back and forth to school and many days other drives from behind have blown their horn at me due to going to slow because I am unsure what speed I am going. I was using the rpm gauge to help out but it has now stop working too. I contacted GMC about the problem but they directed me to the GMC dealer, which I am still waiting on a response from. This is a safety problem for me to be driving a car in which the instrument gauges just stop working at anytime.

Service stabilitrak light and service abs lights are on. Horn no longer works.
: the contact stated while exiting the off-ramp of the highway at 20-25mph, the check engine and reduced power light illuminated and there was a loss of all vehicle power. Although the engine restarted after several attempts, the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The dealer determined the accelerator sensor needed to be replaced. Afterwards, the loss of power persisted and the accelerator sensor was again replaced by the dealer as well as the computer. Additionally, the horn intermittently worked, but the horn was not inspected.

After numerous recalls on my 2002 Envoy I was leaving for work and the vehicle would not start. The dash lit up, horn, radio, alarm all worked, but the vehicle would not start. I could move gear shift from p to n and it still would not start. I had to have the vehicle towed at my expense. I was told GMC roadside assistance doesnt apply if you have aaa. Dealer said (according to the computer codes) that it might have been a faulty ingition switch. They replaced it but it happened again. Now the dealer said there are no comupter codes this time so they have no idea what to do. It has been at the dealer 10 days now. Every time the dealer turns the key it starts up with no problem. I have contacted GMC on a daily basis to find out what they plan on doing. I bought it new, and it only has 18,400 miles on it. I'm supposed to hear from GMC today on what they are going to do. This vehicle is not safe to drive. It has stalled on the highway about a year and after I restarted it, it would not shift out of a lower gear and the engine was very loud. I had to have the rotors machined at 12000 miles because the brakes were pulsing hard and the rotors were pitted. So much for buying a new vehicle that should be dependable! I'm making payments for a vehicle that I dont have!.

I own a 2004 Envoy. I had taken the vehicle in for service previously for electrical issues. The headlight and interior lights would constantly flicker as you drove. The drivers door also locked itself when exiting the vehicle. The problems were intermittent, happening about 3 to 4 times a month. Since the problems persisted, I again took the vehicle for service. Another electrical problem had arisen also. The horn, at times, would not work. Again this was an intermittent problem. The dealer said they could not locate the problem unless it was occurring when they had they were checking it. I called gm customer assistance to file a complaint. They then talked with the dealer. The car was kept for several more days and returned with the diagnosis that the problem could not be located since it was not occurring when they had the vehicle. They did note that the horn had quit working and then started working again while they had the vehicle but were still unable to diagnose and correct. I contacted gm customer assistance and was informed them I considered these problems a safety issue, since I was unsure if the flickering condition in the lights might cause them to go out while driving, and the fact the horn may or may not work when needed. I was informed there was nothing else they could do unless the problem became consistent.
Consumer took the vehicle in to have the ball joints replaced at the dealer. After receiving the vehicle back consumer found that the horn no longer worked. Also, dealer examined the vehicle air bag module was defective.

Consumer complained about a horn problem. The horn worked intermittently. Dealer was unable to duplicate the problem 3 times, but was able to correct the problem on the fourth time.
