2 Ignition Module problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I noticed a electrical burning smell while driving on a side street. The engine made an unusual noise so I pulled over, turned the car off and put on the hazard lights. While waiting for the tow truck, the car started with no key in the ignition. The car ran for a short time then stopped and attempted to restart itself about 5 times. Our mechanic took a look at it and said there had been a fire in the fuse box. I took pictures of the charred remains of the fuse box, cover and connectors. Most of the plastic connectors under the fuse box could not be removed because they had melted and were fused onto the box. He noted the fire seemed to originate from fuse 46, the headlamp driver module. For the past few years, I had been experiencing headlight and tail light issues involving bulbs that were burning out frequently or were going out then coming back on.

3 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

After exiting the interstate with speeds up to 65mph and before I could slow down to the to the current speed limit of 25mph the engine of my GMC Envoy denali 2006 abruptly cut off. I steered to the curb to get out of the road of traffic with the first thought that I was out of gas; but I had a fourth of a tank. The GMC dealership first told me the ignition switch burnt out and my repair bill was $277. Several days later they called me and said the vehicle stalled again while they were test driving it. Now they say the ignition switch burnt out a module which would cost another $700. Total bill with labor and tax. . . . $1059. 57.

4 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/19/2012

One evening I was driving on the main highway and my inside lights came on. I pulled to the side of the road to check the switch but it was on auto. I turned it off but the lights stayed on. They were still on when I got home and parked turned off the ignition the lights were still on. The next morning my car couldn't start because it had ran my battery down. Another incident was my headlights went off one night while I was drive on the highway. I am also having problems with my gas gauge. My gas light comes on like I am out of gas. The last time I fill my car up with gas it hesitated. It didn't want to start. The light stays on when my car is full of gas. I smell gas. I sat at the gas station for an our because my car didn't want to start. The sound of my radio goes in and out. My lights continue to go on and off when driving or when not driving. One morning I got up to go to work, went to start my car and the headlights were on but the switch was off. I couldn't get the lights to go off when I got to work. They stayed on at least for 4 hrs. Sometime the lights doesn't come on when I put them on. I really have some weird things go on with my vehicle. I did get the module changed and they did some re-wiring in the door. One year before the module, I got them to check my car for a short and I was told from them that my wires were over heated. I paid about $900 to fix it. I strongly think it is a detect some wheres or something that would cause my wires to over heat.

5 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/11/2006

Dear sir, today while driving my 2003 Envoy SUV (approx 40,000 miles on the od ) I was making a left turn onto a major highway. About 3/4 way through the turn the car accelerated full speed without my help. Since the roadway was wet (not raining at the time) the car sped and spun violently to the left and crashed into the concrete barrier separating the four lane highway. We ( my wife and I) hit the barrier with a strong impact but suffered no serious injury. (we were belted) this automobile is used as a towed vehicle as we travel the country in a motorhome. The car has a vary heavy and stout steel towing base plate on the front. The base plate was bent badly but it protected the car from serious damage I have been driving for some 42 years without ever having a chargeable accident. I have never experienced such a condition. If the barrier had not been there we would have collided with cars in the other lanes stopped at the red light. We realize that "sudden acceleration" has in the past been blamed on drivers. I assure you that this car took off at full throttle and this driver did not trigger such a response. Circumstances prevented this from being a major ta with injuries. I have no axe to grind and seek no compensation of any form. Now however, I am worried about driving the car without knowing what may happen. The acceleration stopped upon impact and I drove the car about a mile to my campsite without further incident. Please inform me if others have reported this condition and if there is a protocol to insure it won't happen again. Thank you, michael c. Mccoy.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/22/2005

Contact statesd the windshield wipers will not work except on high. The service dealer stated a bad air conditioning cycling switch caused the windshield wipers to fail. They stated the ignition switch module, windshield wiper module, and the air conditioning cycling switch needed to be replaced, and the computer program needed to be updated. The engine lost all power while driving; there were no warning lights or indication that there was any thing wrong with the vehicle. There was a recal 04v046000 on the windshield wiper motor, the recall was serviced, but the consumer stated the module was already broke. The vehicle will be serviced, but at consumer's expense. The consumer has already filed a complaint on the ignition switch module.

02/11/02 4,667 miles everything shut off. Engine stopped while driving. Dealer did not even look into this. 06/14 to 06/18/03 18,000 to 18,214 miles car off road for 5 days due to engine died while driving. I referenced ecas and pcm problem NHTSA defect summary ea03007. Dealer tells us no-one else has had this problem. Suggests driving round dealership until problem occurs, and then calling them. Don't try to start until they come out (never mind we're in the middle of a busy road and in the evening time when they are closed). We are lucky we were not rear-ended this last time. GMC refuse to replace ecas wiring bundle and pcm solution per ea03007. Help!!! help!!! please help!!!.

8 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/04/2001

Below is copy of letter given to gm dealership following the engine failure at high speed: 10/05/2001 to : bob ross service department 2002 GMC Envoy 3,240 miles problem: on Sunday October 4th, my wife was driving on 675 to fairfield mall from our home at 6:10 pm in the evening. She had traveled about 8 miles and was going 65 mph in the middle lane when the Envoy suddenly lurched and then quickly slowed with total loss of engine power. The headlights (it was dark) were still on and the check abs light came on as she coasted to the berm in moderate traffic. At that point the car would turn over (battery ok) with the key but would not fire. She called on-star and they said it would have to be towed and called dispatch (case 00244572). She also called me so that I could pick her up. When I got to the car, approximately 6:15, I turned over the engine and it fired. The check abs lamp was still on. I waited for the tow truck and he followed me to the bob ross dealership. As I started to drive, the abs lamp went out, but the check engine soon lamp came on and stayed on the entire drive to the dealership (about 8 miles) where it was parked at 6:50 pm Sunday night. During the drive, it was obvious the transmission would not shift out of one of the lower range gears (not sure which one) and it appears the engine was running in ã‚limp home modeã‚. It would appear some computer glitch has occurred which is critical to the entire engine control program. I am very concerned in that this vehicle only has 3240 miles and the total and sudden loss of power in moderate traffic and darkness could have placed my wife in a precarious position as she tried to move to the berm with no power assist (steering or brakes) available. Please check the vehicle out carefully to determine the cause of this unacceptable failure. John perkins.
