36 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

My 2005 GMC Envoy is experiencing a problem where the speedometer will not slow down. It does however accelerate. So now when I am parked my vehicle shows that I am doing well over 120 mph. I have to use my gps unit to check my speed, this is a huge safety concern and something needs to be done about this. I have done research on the internet and this problem is afflicting many people. Seeing as I helped keep gm from going out of business shouldn't they help me?.

The current mileage was 105,189.

39 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/18/2010

Driving when three lights showed up on instrument panel stabilitrak, check engine and reduced engine power light came on the Envoy completely turned it self off. I waited a few minutes then started the car. It started the check engine light was the only light on. I got home and restarted car all lights disappeared. Next day driving the same thing happen. Three more times on the way to mechanic the Envoy turned itself off. Find out the programmable control module pcm was defective. This car was purchased as a certified used vehicle 07/08. I then find out the part is readily available and not a special order. They refurbish this part with a one year warranty. I can not believe that GMC would engineer a car to entirely shut down when driving this could have been very dangerous had I been on the freeway going 65 mph, also that this should not happen as it is not a wear and tear issue. The codes that showed up were apparently not covered by GMC. With this part being readily available I must not be the only one who has had this happen. This was a costly repair, and I feel that someone should look to see if this has happen to others, before someone gets hurt or killed.

44 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

2005 Envoy faulty instrument cluster contacted gm customer service and was informed that there is nothing they can do at this time for this year model. Not covered by bulletin: gm speedometer "special coverage adjustment" 07187a 07187b. Just purchased this vehicle used and because the dealership I purchased it from does not believe that it is a safety issue they will not cover it.

45 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

The speedometer stops working periodically. Sometimes it doesn't work at all and then days like today, it goes all the way up to 120 mph when I am only going 50-55 mph!.

46 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

I had the electrical cluster on my 2002 GMC Envoy XLT replaced in July of 2009 due to the gas gauge fluctuation. I was informed that I had a bad electronic cluster that was covered under my extended warrenty. It was replaced. Now it is doing the same thing again. I took the car to the dealership where they informed me that the fuel level sensor had gone bad. After paying 462. 00 for the repair the gas gauge is still fluctuating.

48 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

Hi, I'm a owner of a GMC Envoy xl. I have had many problems with the gauges altogether. 1st it was the fuel gauge and then now all the instruments are out. You cant tell how fast your going, if your vehicle is overheating nothing! I have done quiet a bit of research and it looks as if this is a very known issue. Its not that its the most costly part to fix but I dont feel the consumer should be responsible if ust about everyone that owns this type of vehicle has the same issue. Its also very dangerous not knowing what is going on while your on the road as well thats what the gauges are for. Please help!!!! the approx date entered is the date I filed this complaint I have had the issue for well over 6 months now.

49 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

For the last few months the check engine light would come on and go off after a few days; we took it to our mechanic who ran a diagnostic and they said there is nothing wrong, probably a faulty sensor, not harmful. So, last night while driving, using cruise control and on the interstate my speedometer stopped working. When I came to a stop at an exit I noticed the speedometer was reading 42 mph but I was at a complete stop. I do not even want to imagine what might have happened should it have begun to work while I was doing 60+mph while on cruise control!!! this is extremely dangerous! so I came home and did some research to see if this is a known issue with my 2004 GMC Envoy xl and low and behold this is an issue to all GMC suvs from 2002-2005! I am disgusted at the information I found that states GMC isn't willing to take ownership of the recall/repair when this is already a known issue!! please act on this with due diligence and recall this faulty instrument panel before someone gets hurt or worse!!!!.

50 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

Driving on interstate 91 south, glanced down to see my speedometer indicated I was traveling 75 miles perhour let off the accelerator to decrease speed when I realized the vehicle behind mine had to pull around my vehicle to avoid hitting mine in the rear. Several miles later I discovered my speedometer indicated I was traveling 120mph although keeping up with traffic. As I pulled of highway and hit my brakes the speedometer decreased in speed, although when at a complete stop speedometer indicated I was traveling 30 mph. This causes some concern since I only have 41,119 miles on my 2005 Envoy xuv. I contacted GMC and was told there was no recall on my vehicle and scheduled a service appointment with a GMC dealer to figure out the problem. This issue after some research had been an ongoing problem and find it difficult a recall has not been made for this issue. Speed is a hazard, that's why speed limits are posted, that's also why speedometers are put into vehicles in the first place. Lets pray for once that someone is not injured simply because the driver could not afford to spend the money for an issue that could have been corrected by gm.

51 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Speedometer failed. It now either displays no speed or an inaccurate reading.

52 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

Gas gauge not working on my 2005 GMC Envoy xl. From all the complaints sounds like the fuel leveling sensor went out. Only 70,000 miles . I think with all the complaints this should be a recall.

53 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/28/2009

I own a 2005 GMC Envoy and the speedometer stopped working about 3 weeks ago. I took it to the dealership for repair and was advised that they did not know what the issue was but since they had removed the battery and re-connected it that the speedometer should work correctly. I worked correctly for 2 days.

54 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/27/2009

Speedometer started acting inconsistent and then "fixed" itself the last week of December 2009. At that time it would not drop below 20mph. After seemingly being ok, the first week of Jan. 2010, the speedometer jumped to 80mph and hung there and pegged out at 120mph when driven. I made appt. With gmac in winston salem, nc and was told the entire instrument cluster would have to be replaced @ $600+. Panel has been ordered and to be installed end of week. Now I see that there has been a letter sent out by gmac that I never received, to replace this cluster if less than 70,000 miles. I now have a little less than 73,000 miles. Apparently this has been a major problem???.

55 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

In December 2009 my 2004 Envoy xl's tachometer went off line. It starts at about the 3 o'clock position. Then a month later the odometer stuck at about 40 miles per hour even though I was stopped or obviously doing over 40. When the vehicle is turned off and restarted it corrected itself but was erratic and would tick its way up to about 40-50mph then would stop going up. This has been an ongoing problem with many 2004 Envoys. The dealer said it was a instrument panel problem and that they would have to replace it at a cost of around $500. 00 this is a serious safety problem. When reducing speed to accommodate a curve that recommends a reduced speed I can not tell what my actual speed is to safely make the curve. Speed limits are posted for safety reasons and if we cant tell how fast we are going do to a faulty instrument panels it puts people in danger. Dealers and GMC seem to know about it and have not yet recalled the vehicles to correct the safety problem not to mention that $500. 00 is a lot of money for most people to have to pay for a safety problem that the manufacture should be fixing.

56 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

The instrument panel cluster on my GMC Envoy 2004 is defective as it is on a multitude of other gm models between 2003 and 2005. One of the consequences is that the speedometer will not work or will report a faulty reading while operating the vehicle. This is an unsafe driving condition and for some reason gm has not yet issued a recall on this ipc problem for GMC Envoys of the year 2004 even though other years of this model and other models of gm vehicles have been recalled for this exact issue. Please help gm do the right thing by it's Envoy owners. We have certainly bailed them out enough. There is another potentially deadly consequence of this issue. If one were to be driving the vehicle at 60mph using cruise control and the speedometer were to all of a sudden peg itself to 20mph, there would be a sudden and abrupt acceleration as the computer in the car attempted to regain 60mph even though the vehicle was already at that speed. Thank you for your time and attention to this dangerous speed control issue. Matt dye.

57 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

Instrument panel cluster issues in 2004 GMC Envoy,. Headlights and instrument panel lights flicker dim to bright. Occurs while driving down the road very sporadic. Diagnostic stated faulty instrument panel cluster. Issue if not fixed, the vehicle could stall when driving and lose power. Mine has started loosing power and stalling. Faulty speedometer inaccurate, will go past 120mph or stay on zero, why no recall on these items gm is aware of this but as of today no action has been taken.

58 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/07/2009

Instrument panel fuel level indicator shows incorrectly. At first it would show half tank or more when in fact there was less gas. Now the fuel level indicator shows empty at all times. The audible fuel warning for low fuel also rings constantly. After running out of gas in the middle of nowhere on several occasions the vehicle was taken in to the local dealership. The repair was too costly. We were however charged a $100 fee just for the GMC dealer to look at it. We now track fuel using the trip computer. Look online for some help I was amazed to find out that many, many, many people have and are having the same issue.

59 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

The cluster gauge on my 2004 GMC Envoy has gone completely out. I did some research online and have found this is a major issue with all Envoys made during 2004/2005 yet to recall has been issued. At first it was sporadic but eventually, all of the gauges went completely out.

60 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

The odometer has been malfunctioning for 2 years it will work and sometimes it will not. I would be going in speeds of over 50mph and the odometer would read 20mph. Or I would go about 30mph it would read100mph or over. It will erratically do this. Sometimes it works fine. I have not fixed the problem yet. It is working right now.

61 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The speedometer read 35 mph while driving at 70 mph. The vehicle was taken to a local garage. Diagnostic testing located failure at the transmission shifter cable, which was replaced. Other unknown parts were also replaced. The instrumental control panel sensor was replaced, but the failure was not corrected, the transmission failed again. The manufacturer took a report, but they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 93,000.

62 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

2005 GMC speedometer failure. Stops working and gets stuck on the 120miles point even when the car is off and not just driving. Occurs after about a few minutes of driving and, after online and offline research, it turns out a lot of people have these problem with some GMC trucks, especially the GMC Envoys models. And gm is not doing anything or refusing to fix it since it is a manufacturers default. There hasn't been any recalls to address this issue and there are even lawsuits in some states about this. My truck is not even old only 52,000 miles and I don't drive a lot just to work and home.

63 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

2004 GMC Envoy xl speedometer and tachometer no longer function. . . . This happen about 1 year ago and it continues to this day. . . I am reading online that there are other similar issues with the instrument panel. In my opinion this is without a doubt a safety related issue. . . . I should be traveling 35 miles an hour and the car registers 75 mph. Its never correct and the tach just stopped working.

64 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/22/2009

2003 GMC Envoy with 65,000 miles I have a speedometer that is erratic in reading speed. Gets stuck at 35 mph as "0" or registers -10 mph from actual speed. This problem varies from one to the other every time I restart the engine. I also have a weird clicking sound that comes from the dash area on occasion.

65 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

My 2004 GMC Envoy speedometer stopped working properly. There was no fore-warning. If I'm on the highway going 60 mph, it reads I'm goin 25 mph. The needle falls below "0" when idling. I've called a GMC dealer and they said there is no recall for this although I've read many exact complaints online.

66 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauge became inoperable. The dealer estimated that the repair would cost $500 at the contact's expense. On a separate occasion, the vehicle would only shift into first and second gear and would not accelerate over 35 mph. In addition, the rpms would rev higher than normal and the vehicle would hesitate when attempting to pick up speed. The contact heard a loud humming noise under the hood when attempting to accelerate. The dealer stated that a new transmission was needed. The repair would cost over $2,000. An independent mechanic stated that he could rebuild the transmission. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 44,386 updated 07/28/09 the transmission failed at 58,000 miles. Updated 07/31/09.

Erratic speedometer operation. Shows various speeds when stopped. Inaccurate when underway. Will show up to 110 mph driving in the city. Dealer says instrument panel needs to be repaired at cost of over $400. Same problems on full size gm trucks. Full size trucks are being covered under service bulletin #07187a, b, & now c. Speedometer repair shop says stepper motors are bad. Same part number and repair as on full size trucks. Gm has excluded Envoy and trailblazer from this repair coverage.

69 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

Speedometer does not work at times. Sometimes it will just stay at "0", others it will be at various speeds even while in park.

70 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/09/2009

My speedometer does not work in mt 2004 GMC Envoy. I understand that some of the GMC pickups had the same problem and it was handled as a recall. When it began, it would hang up at a range between 60-90 mph. It now just sits at 0. I have been stopped for speeding in local neighborhoods in massachusetts, where I work for going anywhere between 5-15 mph over the speed limit. This has cost me money in fines and my auto insurance, it should be handled as a recall, GMC needs to step up to the plate. I inquired with my mechanic, and its about a $900. 00 fix for me to repair!.
