37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

Driving down the road I glanced to check my speedometer and saw it registered about 100 mph. I was only going about 40. The speedometer continued to climb and went below the highest registered number, which is 120, and that's where it now sits apparently for good. Now I cannot tell my speed. The needle remains buried below 120 mph and does not move at all no matter what speed.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she attempted to accelerate further when the accelerator pedal depressed all the way to the floor. The vehicle began to surge forward until being shifted into neutral. The vehicle was then stopped and shut off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 79,061. The VIN was unavailable.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

Own a 2004 GMC Envoy and I have problems with the fuel gauge and the odometer. The fuel gauge goes past the f line when the vehicle is not on fuel. Also the odometer will stop working or get stuck on 10-15 mph. He happens often. . . Every other day. I was told that it would cost 1400 to fix and a possibility it may not fix the problem.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

Our speedometer on our 2005 Envoy has stopped working correctly. It either just stays at zero, or sometimes it will work for 10-20 minutes and then it just starts going down and down and down until it hits zero. This is a safety hazard since I don't know how fast I am going. We haven't replaced it yet.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I bought a 2005 GMC Envoy used but in good shape. After about 5000. Miles the speedometer started to read 120 mph. It reset itself a couple of times but now it's completely stuck at the 120. Also the gas gauge sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. I can fill it up and it will ding and the light comes on and it won't show a drop of gas on the gauge. Then a day or so later it will be fine. Also the check engine light is on. I replaced the gas cap since the owners manual said it could be a faulty gas cap. It helped for a few days but it's back on. After reading all these reviews and complaints I'm sorry I bought it. I don't have the money to keep getting it fixed. It cost a $100. 00 for the dealer just to hook it up so they could tell me it needed a speedometer head. (?) that will only cost $468. 00. But that won't fix the check engine light or the gas gauge. I'm worried that I'll get a ticket because the speedometer doesn't work or run out of gas when the gas gauge isn't working.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

Fuel gauge does not go above 1/8 tank. Speedometer "sticks" usually at highway speed and when stopped does not return to zero then when vehicle is moving again the new speed is accumulating on "stuck" speed. Sometimes speedometer "sticks" before reaching steady speed and when vehicle is stopped the reading is below zero in this scenario when the vehicle is moving again the "registered" speed is below actual speed. As I drive 1,000 miles a week, it is quite important to know how much fuel I have in my tank and of course how fast I am traveling.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy. From the beginning I've had problems with the electrical working properly (rearview mirrors, seat controls, etc). Also, my fuel indicator and speedometer both went out at the same time. I believe GMC should take responsibility for the default and request a recall. I have read numerous complaints dealing with the very same issues on models from 2003 thru 2011.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving the speedometer goes over 125 mph and when he stops the gauge would be on 50 mph or 70mph. He does not know how fast the vehicle was driving. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the vehicle was out of warranty and they will not repair the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 124,000 and the current mileage was 127,400. . . Mw.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/18/2011

The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine stalled. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer who replaced the sensor in the throttle body. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 93,000.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

While driving I looked down to check my speed and was surprised to see the speedometer reading 120 mph. While doing research on the internet I found there was a class action suit that was settled in 2008 because of this problem however, my vehicle was not listed as covered in the suit. I feel it should be covered as my vehicle is experiencing the same problems as the ones covered in the settlement. Under the settlement agreement gm would provide the cluster at no cost to me and I would be responsible for the labor cost.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The speedometer on my 2005 Envoy is nolonger working. . . The problem seem to be common with Envoy owners because we have an entire forum on it I have complained to GMC and no avail. . . I tried to trade the car but was offered way less than fair trade value because the speedometer is not working I hope I can get some help from someone. . I can not afford to keep taking the car back and forth to the dealership.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/20/2011

Failure of 2003 GMC Envoy speedometer.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/18/2010

My 2004 Envoy xuv speedodometer stuck at 55mph. I spoke to dealer technician and was told I had to replace the instrument cluster because of a small thing called a stepper motor. This seems to be an on going problem with gm vehicles. I strongly suggest a safety recall because this is failing on thousands of vehicles.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

2005 GMC Envoy xl 64,900 miles. Speedometer erratic operation. Since first incident, symptoms under varying driving conditions are; speedometer erroneously indicates too low a speed, speedometer indicates too high a speed, speedometer indication sticks at a fixed speed with changing vehicle speed.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

The fuel gauge is inoperable due to the failure of the fuel sending unit. This is a common issue in the 2004 -2007 GMC Envoy, chevy trailblazers and Buick ranier. I know at least 4 other people who have experienced this issue. The dealer states that this is not a class action issue but to many comments are on the internet. The vehicle will stall at intersections and parking lots when proceeding through the intersection after being stopped. I contacted gm customer service and they stated that this is not a recall issue with the gm products. Gm should be recall all vehicles and replace the fuel sending units at no charge or a reduced charge(cost of part or labor whichever is the least cost to the owner). The government has bailed them out now it is time for gm to do the right thing. Also the instrument cluster stopped working correctly also and this resulted in speeding tickets. I have replaced with a remanufactured instrument cluster at the cost of $150. 00 vs $600. 00 with the local gm dealer.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1996 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

Hello, we purchased the 2006 yukon denali Envoy with low mileage between 30,000 45,000 miles. We didn't expect to run into major ( throttle body and fuel sensortank embedded) problems. There are many complaints lodged on the internet about these dtc engine trouble codes (p2135, p0463). The sudden loss of power in the middle of traffic may cause an accident. According to GMC technical service bulletins in correcting the problem, the first dealer told me they must follow a diagnostic troubleshooting flow chart to resolution. The first gm/GMC dealer stated the first stage of the diagnostic flowchart says the throttle body should be cleaned and not replaced. The reason not initially replaced is because the throttle body is a high priced item. We then took it back to the 1st dealer at which the diagnostical flowchart was again used. According to the flowchart the next course of action calls for replacement of the throttle body. Again it was short lived. If the flowchart diagrams are outdated and poorly designed, they should be updated. The technical service bulletins need to be better written so unnecessary costly steps for the consumer could be avoided. We then took it to a different dealer for the 3rd time explaining the repeat engine light code of p2135. They ran the codes again stored in memory and retrieved the same p2135 code I retrieved. The second dealer also replaced the throttle body only for the problem to resurface. After sharing with them the resolution I retrieved from the internet, ( wiring harness connected to the throttle body ), eventually the gm ase technician correct the wiring harness problem. Recommendations should be made to all dealerships including gm/GMC demanding that regional chronic trouble groups ( county specific) be established to combat these extreme automotive expenses. These vehicles having consistent high part replacements is the real gauge that substantiates and warrant a nationwide recall on these defective parts.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

My speedometer has stopped working. The gas gauge says empty when I have just fueled the car to full. The car will surge forward when I am backing out of the drive way and putting car in drive. I have to immediately press on the brake and return the car to neutral position to stop from running into parked cars or the curb. Tonight we were leaving the park and both headlights ( low beam) are not working. All other lights and flashers on the car work. The interior light on the left half of the a/c controller does not work. The motor in the rear window went out. The dealership charged me $ 1000 to replace the motor and then they advised me that the middle window motor was bad and that would be an additional $600 to repair. I only could afford the back window motor. This car is my only mode of transportation and I cannot believe that gm has npt placed a recall on all of these issues.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

While driving my n2004 GMC Envoy, myn speedomotor quit working and shows speeds over 100mps when driving. When in park, off or idling, the speedo needle is never at zero. . . It is at 30 or 40 mph during these times. I do no know how fast I am going.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Oil gauge stopped working since 2010. Changed oil pressure switch, but oil gauge still not reading. Speedometer gauge started giving false readings since early 2011. Fails to read correctly since, reading up to 200mph @ real speeds up to 40mph. About a year later rpm gauge failed and stopped working since early 2012. We never know what speed we are going with a lot of risks involved, including speeding tickets or else. There are many owners with same problem, with costly repairs and sometime no fix. Hoping for GMC to step up to the plate.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

2004 GMC Envoy. Sudden momentary engine surge. Occurred at low speed with foot on brake pedal. Six occurrences , four within last few months. Gm dealer checked said all systems were ok, gm corporate notified said no history this type of failure. When surge happened quick shift into neutral prevented damage. Engine surge lasted only a few seconds and then returned to normal. Since problem is intermittent gm offers no help other than bring it back to dealer for recheck.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/30/2009

The gas gauge stopped working and shows that the vehicle is on empty. The "low fuel' indicator on the dash will blink randomly and "ding" to draw my attention to it. The gas cap was replaced a week later but the problem has not been resolved. It continues to read "empty. " since then the speedometer has also stopped working. The speedometer hand has completely dropped below the 120 mph mark, although for a few weeks it would register that I was driving much faster than the speed of traffic around me. Moreover, it would register 30 mph when the vehicle was completely stopped. Yet, it has since stopped working altogether. The vehicle has also recently stalled in reverse and several times has surged/accelerated quickly when I am driving slowly and push the gas pedal to accelerate. I have an appointment with the local GMC dealership and have called the national GMC dealer to document my complaint(s).

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/12/2009

In the process of making a left turn, (dead end - no oncoming traffic) the vehicle failed to get up to speed after depressing the accelerator in order to make the turn. A warning light came on that had never been seen before; it was the "reduced engine power" light along with the "service engine soon" light. The way was clear to put the vehicle in reverse and back into a gas station. A prayer was said before continuing on to the destination at hand with a trip to the dealership in the am. The vehicle was tested at the dealership with the "found code" p1680. . Gas pedal shorting out. Pedal was replaced, retested, and approved without a recurrence of the code. Two months have passed without a recurrence so far. The total cost was $191. 85. Thank god it didn't cost a life! the old part is available; teleflex 15187573 g03302 2 360-133143 passed made in mexico 400421 could not allow this to happen again or to others; repaired immediately due to dangerous to fatal consequences if turning left in front of an oncoming semi. This complaint is to inform others of a potentially dangerous situation regarding their gas pedal.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/13/2008

After driving vehicle tends to lunge forward even after brakes are stepped on or after parked at a red light, in the first case driving at highway speeds, the speedometer freezes and hangs, during this occurrence we do not know what speed limit we are going which is scary and a safety concern especially with children in the car, to troubleshoot the problem and bring speedometer down to zero mph, the car would need to be turned on and off numerous times to set back to zero.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

GMC Envoy xl - 2006 has powered down three times while driving on a major interstate at approximately 65 mph during rush hour traffic. No warning lights prior to the power down. The vehicle slows to 15 within about 60 seconds. The first time, in approximately 2008, I was able to pull over two lanes to the breakdown lane and the power came back on while I was still coasting. I was told by GMC that without the light on they couldn't do anything. The second time in early 2012, the same thing happened during rush hour - there was no breakdown lane. When I went to GMC the light went off. I was told that I had a useful life of the car and it was getting old (135,000) miles and I should replace it. They said they could not do anything. It happened again last week on the interstate. I brought my car to my regular mechanic, non GMC, who coordinated with another GMC dealer for me. They fixed some codes they said were a problem. It happened again after having the car for 2 days. They fixed it again. We don't know if it's really fixed. This is a huge problem. GMC has no idea what they need to do to fix this. I have not seen service bulletins that relate to this. Powering down to a speed below minimum speed on a major highway is very dangerous. I do not trust this vehicle and feel very unsafe in it. Somebody needs to do something about this.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/07/2008

Item 1: fuel gage located on instrument panel reads empty after tank is filled to maximum, light goes on indicating tank soon to be empty, after fuel is added gage fluctuates often from empty to 3/4 filled then 1/2 tank then back to empty reading which makes me constantly refueling tank . Fuel pump price $480. 00. I declined repair only fuel sensor/suppressor, check speedometer gage. Service advisor stated this item was not recalled or covered, this financially sets me back now since on a set income. This because myself a disabled vietnam veteran. Hope no more problems would be found on my vehicle these. This part alone would cost $380. 00 not including repair charges.
