Brake Abs Warning Light Problems of GMC Jimmy

This happens a lot. I was backing up out of my sister's driveway and when I hit the brakes there was a crunching feeling under my foot along with a weird sound like, "doing" at the end. I could not stop fast enough and ran into her brother in laws hitch on his truck with my right rear corner bumper cover. (if that's what it's called? maybe fascia?) it didn't hurt his truck at all, but it sure busted up that corner piece real good on my Jimmy. It's been scary a few times since! I have had the brakes bled, and new brake pads installed, and it's still doing it! also, the abs light is on most of the time. When it's off is when this problem occurs. So I get a little panicky when that light goes off, although I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be on to begin with? I don't know what else to do about this except to contact someone about it. I read somewhere that this abs issues is from a problem with a sensor something or other gets corroded and has been recalled. Is this true? p. S. I have noticed the abs light goes off when it's rainy, sometimes when it's snowy, and usually when you first get in the vehicle to go somewhere, if that helps.

The contact owns a 1996 GMC Jimmy. The contact stated that the rear brakes failed and the abs warning light was continuously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the rear cylinders need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.

I would like to file a complaint about the abs brake sensor not working. From online search this is a common problem with the 2001 GMC Jimmy and no recall has been issued. I have had this issue for the past year that the abs lights on the dash will come sometimes but at other times it will be off. I have been told the sensor is bad and it would cost over $700. 00 to fix. Since this is a big issue I wish you would look into this and have gm issue a recall.

1. Normal driving 2. Abs light on. 3. New wheel bearings. They are not cheap to have them installed twice!!!! light still on. No abs brakes!!!! but I have brakes.

Abs brake failure. Abs led lit on dashboard, brakes failed approaching red light. Dealership stated brakes were fine when taken in to be inspected. . But led remained lit. Did not drive vehicle for a month because led remained on. Started driving it again to get to work-short distances only. Led is on most of the time.

The contact stated while driving the abs activated. This resulted in extended stopping distance during low-speed applications. The vehicle has not been taken to dealer for service at this time. Updated 1/4/2005 - the failure of the abs did not result in the abs light illuminating. The vehicle has been serviced at a GMC dealer to repair the problem.

Contact stated the abs warning light was on at all times. There was no problem with the braking capabilities of the vehicle. The service dealer stated this vehicle was not covered under a recall. Manufacturer said the same thing. There were two recalls NHTSA 99v193000 and manufacturer's recall 19990719 on this component, but consumer's vehicle was not covered under the recall. The service dealer suggested bringing the vehicle in and putting it on the diagnostic test to determine the cause of the abs light illuminating.

A few weeks ago, my abs light kept coming on, and on my way to take it in for a check up, the brakes felt as if they were going to fail. I left the 1999 GMC Jimmy in the garage for several days for repair. They replaced the abs, and within 20 miles of the garage, the abs light came on again. I again scheduled an appt to have this repaired. The garage, once again, replaced the abs. Within 20 miles, the abs light came one for the 3rd time. It was replaced for a third time. The light is now on again, and sometimes my breaks feel as if they are going to fail. I still have the problem, as well as the parts replaced, and I have spent several hundred dollars. What can I do?.

The abs light appeared on the dashboard and the pedal went all the way down to the floor.

Abs warning light came on a few months ago, when I press on the brakes you can hear the air pushing through then they get very hard. Also, if I am stop at a light the truck stalls or is very slow to go when I press on the gas. My mechanic states the the repair would be to a break booster in the anti lock system ($315. 00 for the booster) and the stalling is caused by the breaking system causing a vacumn in the engine.

Wheel bearings on the front left and right side. They both failed, plus the abs light illuminated. The whole wheel bearing assembly was replaced this truck is junk and I will never own a gm ever again. This repair cost about 900. 00 total.

Abs light illuminated, consumer states brakes felt funny, dealer diagnosed left front wheel sensor was faulty and parts had to be ordered, however vehicle was safe to drive, consumer had 3 more brake failures, one resulting in a minor accident with property damage, dealer replaced the sensor and brake booster.

Abs light keeps coming on, and has already been replaced once. Dealer cant find cause. Driver window would not roll up all the way while driving due to it was misaligned. Underhood light bulb broken, dealer replaced bulb. Air bag light illuminates intermittently.

Abs pressure modulator valve assembley failed. Abs light came on which indicated that brakes were about to fail. The customer states that the vehicle is on recall component failure (99i-006), however the manufacturer denied it.

While traveling through nashville at a speed of 65 mph traffic stopped suddenly. I applied my brakes, hoping to be able to manuver to another lane to avoid colliding in to the vehicle infront of my. I was not able to turn and my brakes locked up. Luckly I did not hit the other vehicle. My abs light came on after that point and my braking has not been same sense.

While traveling and at all times abs indicator light stayed on. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

Vehicle at repair shop to replaced the right front wheel bearing when abs light came on. Dealer said that the abs needed to be replaced at owner's cost. Owner believes that while repairs were being made something happened to trigger the light. Dealer denies responsiblity.

Abs light stays on all the time . Dealer says whole unit is bad needs replacing.

Anti-lock repeatedly engages and pulsates brakes at low speed stops. Has caused one collision and at least 15 other close calls. Usually occurs when slowing for a traffic signal, etc. At slow enough speeds that the anti-lock should not engage. After this occurs, the abs warning light comes on. When the warning light is on, the brakes work fine. When the warning light goes back off, it is then likely to reoccur at any time. Warning light has stayed on since last occurance and I feel safer as long as the warning light stays on. I'm already paying for this safety defect through higher insurance rates and shouldn't have to pay to replace an obviously faulty system. I just received my 2nd abs recall for this vehicle but it appears this problem addresses a different defect in the same abs system.
