36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

The fuel injection pump cp4 had a catastrophic failure as I was driving on a heavily traveled four lane highway, us rt. 20. I lost power steering and brakes. I felt fortunate that I was not towing a 16,000 lb. Fifth wheel camper down a mountain road. I say this because it was extremely difficult to maintain control over the truck steering it and bringing it to a controlled stop. I have read about these pumps failing on numerous diesel Ford and gm trucks. I also feel if a woman or small person had this happen to them the outcome could end in loss of control resulting in injuries even deaths. The only one that knows the actual number of pumps that have failed is the manufacturers, who will not share that information willingly.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Vehicle was purchased new from a dealership. The vehicle is modified and sold commercially under the rmt (rocky mountain truck works) package. The package includes modified suspension and lighting. When accelerating, the transmission fails to shift into a passing gear causing the rpm(s) to exceed 6000 at which point the rev limiter shuts down power to the vehicle until the rpm(s) are back in a safe operating limit. The first time this happened, I was attempting to pass a vehicle on a secondary two lane highway. When I was in the passing lane, I accelerated to overtake the vehicle but the rpm limiter shut down power midway through the passing. With oncoming traffic, and loss of power, it made for a very serious situation. I have contacted the dealership and they have worked on the vehicle multiple times to try and correct without success. They have confirmed that this happening with all the rmt modified vehicles that they have test driven. These vehicles are commercially marketed and it is only a matter of time before someone is not as ¿¿lucky¿ as I was.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

The vehicle had been parked for over three hours at which time it was engulfed in flames. The entire engine compartment consumed by fire. We had taken the vehicle 2 weeks earlier to a dealer to have the recall component replaced but it appears that the problem was not corrected and now we have a vehicle which was only 4 months old as a piece of worthless pile of metal. Gm has been slow to react to this issue and has requested that we first have our insurance company look at the vehicle vs. Seem send them one to look at the this.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

My vehicle was parked in my driveway. I was walking down the driveway and thought the car was being stolen as it was starting. There was no one in the car. The car did start several times on its own so I disconected the battery cable and had it serviced immediately. How long it had been doing this I do not know. I do know it had not been doing this on the previous day as I walk be there every day at least 2 times.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

Truck was making a "knocking" noise upon start. Took to dealership mechanic and informed, based on the noise and where it's coming from, it's most likely a cracked cylinder and informed this is "common. " really?? will cost thousands to repair . . . Which I don't have. Frustrating to say the least. It has low miles, serviced regularly. If this is "common" why won't GMC step up and take care of it??.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

While the vehicle was being driven, it just went dead, no engine, no electric, no nothing. The vehicle was left in place and at some point, caught fire and burned. A total loss. To date, the insurance company has not paid me for my loss but rather has gone to great lengths to investigate me personally, looking for any reason to not pay. So, I've been making two vehicle payments for the last 8 months. As a result, I am struggling financially.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

About 2 months after we purchased our pre-owned 2009 GMC Sierra denali we started having problems with the engine power and all sensors going off. The sensors start going off the stability control cuts off it says engine power reduced then doesn't want to shift and kills in middle of traffic. It will do it for a few days and then just starts working right again. So we never know when it's going to happen or where we will be. It's like it's not running on all cylinders.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

Apparently gm uses peanut oil to lubricate wiring so they can more easily insulate, etc (accorging to the gm dealer). This attracts rats and mice which chew up the wiring - potentially impacting sensors and other items controlling cruise, stability/traction control, and any number of electrical systems that the driver may be relying upon for safety. I actually had map sensor wires chewed up that disabled my stability/traction systems and inhibited engine performance. Luckily for me it happened in my driveway rather than on the highway. Dealer claims it is not warranty item even though caused by a process that gm elects to use in building the vehicle. This could impact any/every vehicle that gm builds with use of peanut oil (may indeed be all of their models).

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

Vehicle was taken to GMC dealer for headlight defect and we were informed that they would have to order parts. Drove truck back to site and while truck was running but stationary smoke was observed coming from the engine compartment. When the hood was raised the entire truck became engulfed and completely burned.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

Driving at approximately 42 mph the vehicles warnings lights came on informing me that the stabilitrac needed service, traction control was no longer working and the engine was operating at a loss of power. The engine started shaking and the differential started to clunk as if it were going in and out of engagement. An immediate power loss, I was unable to keep up with traffic and was in becoming a hazard to other motorists. The engine started to ping and felt as if it were firing on 2 or 3 cylinders. I pulled over into the breakdown lane and shut the truck off. Several minutes later I started the truck and it ran normal, however approximately 2 miles down the road it did the exact same thing. I managed to take the "back roads" home without endangering anyone. The next morning it started and ran normal. Yesterday it happened again only this time I was at a major intersection and almost caused a collision because I was unable to get through the intersection before the light changed. I made it through and called to have the truck towed to the dealership. Very dangerous situation.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/27/2012

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was idling the contact noticed that the vehicle would vibrate without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the failure could not be repaired. The current and the failure mileages were 1,200. . . Updated 04/16/12 updated 05/07/12.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

After applying brake to slow down to < 5 mph (not coming to a halt) and then trying to accelerate, vehicle becomes unresponsive for 1 to 2 seconds; it feels like the transmission goes into neutral during the braking period and when gas pedal is applied, there is a 1 - 2 second time period where vehicle is trying to figure out something and prevents any acceleration. Why is this dangerous? I found myself in a left turn only lane/green light with opposing traffic, and I attempted the left turn with oncoming traffic because I thought that I had ample time but the vehicle just sat there for 1 - 2 seconds, and with that I found myself in a dangerous predicament because the oncoming traffic was getting very close. If the vehicle had responded when I needed it to, it would not have been a close call. This behavior with the vehicle can be reproduced at will, every time. There are many forums on the internet where many people are complaining about this same issue with the drive-train, GMC knows about it, but refuses to do anything about it.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/28/2004

My 2001 GMC Sierra has a tendency to use oil. It happens after about 3000 kms after an oil change. I brought it up to the service department at the dealership and they told me to try a different brand of oil. I also complained about my truck rolls ahead when I start it in cold weather. They said that this is normal. That is their answer for everything!!! as far as I am concerned, when a vehicle is in park it should not move when you start it!!!!.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

Truck had complete loss of oil pressure. Mechanic said engine appeared to have been run without oil. Knowing that this did not occur the failure had to be caused by a defect in the engine. I have been unable to get any cooperation.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1998 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

The engine started to lose power on a hill and by the time we got to the top the engine was making a trerrible sound. All the guages were reading normal. The GMC dealer or even head office are not willing to replace the motor. I feel that they should replace the motor for it is not our fault that this happen. We maimtained the truck to the highest standards.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

The engine is no good, they say that the knocking at ticking is ok, gm has put out a notice indicating that this is within acceptable limits. If you heard my truck run you would think it was about to fail!.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

On February 18, 2003 I purchased a new 2003 truck the truck came with the service light on. When driving the 4x4 wheel light would come on as if the truck was in 4 wheel drive. The light would go off after stopping and shuting the truck off for at least 15 minutes. I went to the dealer and they said there was no fix at this time and they gave me a service bulletin, file in section:4-driveline axle bulletin no:03-04-21-001 date: February, 2003. I was told that if I was worried about the 4x4 engaging on its own while driving the only thing they could do was to disengage the 4x4 wheel drive at this time. I need to have the use of the 4x4 wheel drive as I own a large concrete construction company and use my truck all day long on jobsites. I left the dealer not knowing what to do. I was worried about damaging the 4x4 unit even more on my new truck. So two weeks later I was tired of worrying, so I took the truck back to the dealer and they disengaged the 4 wheel drive. The service 4x4 wheeel light is still on at this time. I also filed a complaint with GMC on 3/27/03 #1-85090755. I have not heard fron the dealer in one month.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/21/2003

Had talked to dealership two times complaining of engine knock on start up. Both service advisors told me that is a common problem and I don't need to worry about it. I called GMC customer service to get the problem documented an to see what they think of it. They informed me to take it to the dealership and give my service request number (1-64044981) and have them diagnose the problem. The dealership had me pick the vehicle up and they told me the shop foreman listened to my noise along with two other vehicles of the same make, model, and year and all made the same noise. I called GMC back to let them know the problem was not diagnosed and got the voicemail box of the represenitive so I left a message to please call me back. I have not recieved a call back so I called and talked to two other represenitives and they will not help me they just left messages for the original represenative that I talked to. I guess that GMC does not want to talk to me about my complaint.
