GMC Sierra owners have reported 14 problems related to engine exhaust system (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I wrote gm on October 26, 2013 about my 2003 GMC Sierra duramax diesel 6. 6l 6l that just recently started billowing bluish black smoke constantly from the exhaust and costing an exorbitant amount of money in gas. I took it to the dealer (quality by dilorenzo in albuquerque, new mexico) and they informed me that there was a bulletin issued in October 2006 for leaking fuel injectors. They diagnosed my truck with the exact fuel injector problem. The truck only has 83,502 miles on it and I've been informed that the next time I take it for an emissions test (a requirement in new mexico) it will fail. I finally saved up enough money to go an outside repair shop on July 15, 2014 to get my fuel injectors replaced and the total came to $4763. 78. I found out that there were two stripped bolts indicating that the fuel injectors were previously repaired (additional cost of$12 each to replace the 8 bolts). I called the original owner and he told me that the injectors were repaired under the original bulletin (04039) in June 2005 at tillery motors in belen nm. Therefore, the fuel injectors were never really repaired properly in the first place. I have spoke to another women (kathy) at the gm customer service center. She is again elevating this issue to a specialist under gm id #71-1331886730 for reimbursement of the total cost (standard 24-48 hour call back).

I own a 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 6. 6 duramax diesel truck. When the truck is "regen-ing" the "dpf", raw fuel leaks from an exhaust coupling located at the turbo and down-pipe saturating the hot exhaust pipe with fuel. When you come to a stop while it is in this regen mode white smoke boils out from under the hood and enters the cabin inducing a coughing fit and burning eyes. I took the truck to a GMC dealer in san angelo TX and told them about the problem. Was told that they couldn't replicate the problem that I was describing and that I should rest assured because "diesel won't burn anyway".

At the above listed date my vehicle began blowing excessive blue smoke through the exhaust. I discovered at that time there had been a recall on the fuel injectors several years before. I attempted to remedy this with gm at that time and was told I was too late past the date to get service on the recall. I was not notified of a recall and would have taken care of it at that time. It continues to blow excessive smoke but only at idle. I wish to have the problem corrected as it is hurting the environment. I was given a price at the local dealership to repair this issue. I don't feel I should have to pay to have it corrected as there was a recall on the problem.

2004 GMC Sierra 6 liter v8 - exhaust manifold bolts broken off - $600 to repair. Design and/or part defect. Dealer said this happens. Recall or have gm correct?.
Exhaust manifold bolts break causing emission failure and exhaust leak. The repair bill is up to $1000. Or more. You have to have a garage drill out old bolts and replace.

The truck after 40 miles started screeching from the front when going around corners, and was reported to the dealer sam swope, I was informed that it was normal, on the way to town the truck stalled and was towed for repair turns out the coil plug shorted out wires were replaced, next day the truck stalled again towed again turns out that booth catalytic converters were plugged, booth replaced. Entering the freeway when accelerated the truck did not respond, I was informed by the dealer that nothing wrong with the tranny, now I have a clunking noise from the rear of the truck they claim not to be able to duplicate the problem, tires worn out at 27,000 miles turns out alignment problem but no cause for the squealing tires sense first reported the first day of owner ship. Same problem all the time steering wheel never been aligned anti-lock brakes never work right always locking up on breaking first thing in the mornings and the dealership not able to reproduce the problem. This truck is dangerous to drive with to any failures.

When sensor was replaced it did't last 24hrs. I did have dual exhaust put on this truck . I contacted the dealer before this was done to make sure. I was told that as long as the converters were not touched everything should be find/ still fall under warranty except new mufflers and pipes.

Loose body bolts;repaired by dealer. Had evo sensor replaced at a chevy dealer since they knew about the problem that affected this new feature, electronic variable orifice was new in 1997. The truck was dangarous to drive, felt like a go-cart, all over the place. They chevy dealer also burned in a new program for mixtures and timing went they replaced both O2 sensors and cleaned the egr valve. Did I pay to replace these items due to a bad program?? I think I did. What is warrenty on emission system from the manufacturer. ???.
Has occuring ehaust leak, service wont fix. Using brakes while slowing and hitting bump in road, brakes will pulseate very hard and vechile will not stop.
Main seal in the exhaust system failed.
