1 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/01/2003

The tailgate cables rusted through and broke, causing the tailgate to detach from the vehicle. The tailgate was being lowered when the cables unexpectedly snapped and rested on the bumper. This hit the consumer on the legs but caused no injury.

2 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

Ltr request status of 4/15/2004 ltr re jeremy bruenn (NY) and the problem he experienced with his 1999 GMC Sierra truck. . . While the consumer was driving a lawn tractor into the bed of his truck the cables broke without warning. A recall was issued for the 2000-2004 Sierra's for tailgate cable problems but the 1999 Sierra's were not included although they have the same cables.
