1 Engine problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/18/2008

GMC pickup developed coolant loss. Took in and found that head had cracked. Service bulletin revealed 50% of heads for that year came from one manufacturer and had been prone to cracking. Discovered mine indeed had the suspect head and did have the crack as described. Why didn't GMC issue a recall on these and save me $4,000?.

2 Engine problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/09/2008

Purchased a used 2005 GMC sierra from a gm dealership. Two months later the engine was found to have a blown head. After doing my due diligence, I was made aware that gm has had major problems with the head casting manufacture of my particular truck. I am having it repaired at a gm dealership and have asked gm to assist me in anyway with the costly repair, since it is only a 2005. They were not willing to work with me in the least. The gm mechanic even stated that these particular heads are notorious for cracking and gm is aware of this.

3 Engine problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 1500

4. 3 engine started shaking for not apparent reason, mileage at incident 10,000 miles. Engine rpm's would go up & down at idle & rough idle it did this for a couple of days. Engine shook violently and jerked. The vehicle stopped running would not turn on. Vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer had to replace ecm (computer) & crank shaft sensor. Vehicle after two weeks is now rough idle at times at start up & rpm's at idle still vary at times. 4 Engine problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/28/2006

I was on my way home from work and I smelled a weird smell. I thought my air conditioning may be messing up so I turned off my air and opened my window. I still smelled the weird smell with the window down so I assumed it was an odor from the car in front or just generally outside. I noticed in my rearview mirror the car behind me was flagging me down. I pulled over and she told me my truck was smoking and she thought she saw a flame out the back. I pulled off the road better and got out to look. I looked in the area between the cab and the bed and I saw flames. Within a few seconds the flames got bigger and flared up over the bed of the truck. A passing motorist stopped and had a cooler of water and poured it on the area and put the fire out. I had called 911 and the fire truck arrived after the fire was put out. The police did not accompany the fire truck. An insurance adjustor has not been to the mechanic to look at the truck yet so I do not know the extent of the damage.
