My wife was traveling back from store in a 08 GMC sierrra. As she approached red light both driver and passenger side air bags deployed! no one else in the vehicle. Paved road and traveling about 15-20 mph. The airbag on the passenger side destroyed the windshield on the passenger side. Looked like someone tried to throw a brick thru it.

Dashboard is cracking around passenger-side airbag. The plastic is sharp and brittle, and I'm concerned that sharp shards of plastic would go everywhere if the airbag deployed. This is an extremely well-cared for vehicle that could pass for new condition other than this dashboard issue.

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v050000 (air bags). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall two years prior. The contact stated that while stopped at traffic light, the front passenger's side air bag deployed without warning or impact. The vehicle was taken to king Buick GMC (1700 w evans st, florence, SC 29501) and a case was opened with the manufacturer however, the manufacturer informed the contact that GMC was unable to assume responsibility for damages and to resolve matters through the insurance provider. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the front passenger's side air bag was replaced. The contact notified the manufacturer when she received the recall notification. The manufacturer informed the contact that they were sticking by the results from the investigation in 2019, that produced no merit for the allegations. The failure mileage was 85,735. ## VIN passed ## GMC 2008 sierra ##.
I have a crack on dashboard along the instrument panel side and at the passenger side airbag. I'm worried about the safety of the airbag deployment.

My husband was stopped at a light when the side airbags deployed. We contacted GMC they sent someone to investigate. That person said due to some water leaking in on them is what caused it. Nothing was wet though. Now they cannot do anything to help. Seems like if they know they have a defect in the front airbags it is a chance the side ones are also bad. They hang like curtains. Have not been able to drive it since the seatbelts locked also. The cost to repair would be $6000. This is something that was no fault of ours. There has been so much time put into trying to get this resolved. We cant e the only ones this happened to. Suggestion?.
My dashboard is cracking around my passenger side air bag and also around my cluster readout. It appears very brittle and I'm worried it is going to send plastic everywhere if I am ever in a situation where my air bag is deployed.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving onto paved road from a dirt road at a low speed, the driver side air bag deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to martin Cadillac (12101 w. Olympic blvd, Cadillac building, los angeles, CA) where a GMC engineer inspected the vehicle, but the cause of the failure was not disclosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle operated as intended and no further action would be taken. The contact was provided case number: 8-4417096647. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

Why has gm not been told to fix the passenger side airbag on my 2007 GMC pickup for over 2 years since I was notified of the recall of the defective takata actuater. D? does someone have to die or suffer serious injury before they will have to correct the problem?.
My complaint is for the cracked dashboard just above the forward left corner of the passenger side airbag compartment. The dash cracked for no apparent reason; there is no known cause. My concern is both cosmetic and safety. Not only should a vehicle less than 5yrs old not have a cracked dashboard, but since the dash is cracked directly adjacent to the air bag compartment, and is apparently prone to cracking, there is the potential for the dash to splinter and project small pieces of plastic into the body of passengers if the airbag were to be deployed.

Tl-contact owns a 2010 GMC sierra --- received tk holdings letter --- had not contacted gm regarding air bag replacement ---- contact was in accident when vehicle was six months old and drivers side airbag deployed in accident. . . Vehicle was fixed due to low mileage and vehicle only being six months old. . . . . . Side air bag also deployed in accident. . . Contact took truck back to gm and gm stated nothing was wrong with unsown airbag. . . . 1recallsassociated with this VIN. . . Cb.
Dash has cracked from the passenger side airbag to the front of dash cap and along instrument cluster to the front of dash cap. This can easily cause a problem should the airbag go off. At this point I believe the center of the dash would shatter sending shrapnel to every direction inside the truck should the airbag go off or a collision. For me to replace this is going to cost $1000. 00 this is GMC's responsibility for poor engineering and poor quality. They should fix this before someone gets seriously hurt or killed! I shouldn't have to spend $1000. 00 on a $60,000. 00 truck because the dash isn't supported properly to keep from falling apart. Besides, why spend $1000. 00 on a new one when it's just going to crack again. Structural flaw!!.
The top section of the dashboard has multiple cracks including areas directly behind the instrument cluster and around the passenger side airbags. The airbag section is the most troubling, as it would appear the broken sections could become airborne at a high rate of velocity in the event of an airbag deployment.

My dashboard has cracked around the passenger side airbag and on top of the driverside dash. I am afraid that the cracks around the airbag are a safety hazard for my family. Both cracks are growing rapidly. Vehicle has less than 44,000 miles and is in excellent condition.
On 20 March 17, I was traveling down a country road when a dog entered the roadway. I swerved right and was not able to correct, without the possibility of over steering and possibility rolling my truck. I went through a small ditch my side air bags deployed. I was able to get back on the road. I stopped the truck and could not see any damage. I returned to my friends house and contacted my insurance, tow company and the local sheriff dept, nobody including the repair facility could detect any damage aside of the air bag deployment. My insurance adjuster and the service facility both expressed they are familiar of such accidental side air bag deployments on this vehicle. ,.
The dash of the vehicle has cracked around the forward edge of the passenger-side airbag. I am concerned that pieces of the dash may become missile hazards in the event of an air bag deployment. This vehicle has only been subjected to highway mileage. A cursory search of the internet for causes of the crack revealed that this is an on-going issue for this model vehicle that is being ignored by the gm corporation.
My dashboard has a crack that appeared today that's located on the top left corner of my passenger side airbag. I called gm today and told them of the situation and they stated that they're aware of these cracks however there isn't a recall due to it not being a safety issue while driving. The gm lady asked me how many miles are on my truck so I told her it only has 29,204 miles and I'm the original first owner and bought my truck brand new from the dealer. She then stated that the truck is already over the 36 month / 36,000 mile warranty therefore it's not covered for a free dashboard replacement. Can someone at the NHTSA please help me out or point me in the right direction so I can get this problem resolved. Thanks in advance.
2013 GMC siera15004wd it has been garage kept and hand washed! the dash is cracked over the steri g wheel and the passengers side airbag! this can't be safe! not to mention it just turned to 40000 miles! and! the paint will chip off if so much as a fly hits it! and the paint on the roof has bubbles it! and they say it's hail damage! reallly on just that part of the truck? I will never purchase another GMC ( although me and my husband purchased 2 new ones within 6 months) they are cheaply made and expensive to buy! they should be banned from selling such junk! and they made the mo ey now they are double dipping maki g all these people fix these wretched dashes on new vechicles! shame on you!! and when your bankrupt from injuries due to your negligence it will be a blessing!!!.
Dashboard cracks, on both sides, above the instrument cluster and at the passenger side airbag. Passengers side crack is effecting how the airbag access cover snaps into the excisting dash recess. It's very bad and sagging down effecting how the airbag would deploy.

There are 4 cracks in the dash of the truck and 1 on the corner of the passenger side airbag my concern is if the passenger air bag deployed it could potentially send plastic flying projectiles and cause bodily injury or worse loss of vision. Gm has not had a recall because they claim its not a safety concern but there must be a test performed in order to raise a safety concern or wait till someone gets hurt.
I noticed getting into my truck today that I had cracks in my dash in two spots. One crack is above my instrument panel on the drivers side and the other is on the passengers side, running to where my passenger side airbag deploys from. After doing some research online this appears to be a trend that has affected other gm owners. I'm concerned that if the airbags were to deploy either they'd cut into the bags causing them to not deploy properly, and/or, send shards of sharp plastic flying through the vehicles cabin--both situations could have serious/catastrophic consequences.
Dashboard on passenger side airbag is cracking.
Safety issue with cracks in the dashboard in the upper left portion of the passenger side airbag. If the airbag goes off, either in accident or in error, parts of the dashboard will dislodge and be a danger to the occupants.
" takata recall" last memorial day, I had just left a stoplight traveling approx. 20 mph, when I was struck broadside by a Volvo sedan traveling between 50-60 mph. I have a slt model with front and side airbags and none of my airbags deployed.
I got in my vehicle to come home. Put the key in the ignition to start the car and as I did, the driver's side air bag exploded in my face. I had not even put the car in gear yet.

Dash pad cracks in both upper corners around passenger side airbag, truck was parked, noticed cracks in morning.
Cracked dash over dash bezel and around passenger side airbag.
Dashboard around the passenger side airbag is cracked in 2 corners.
Takata recall - in addition to the widespread airbag safety issue, I am among the many, many other 2010 GMC sierra truck owners who have a cracked dash. The crack begins on thefront, left side of passenger side airbag compartment, and extends to the front of the dash (towards the windshield). With so many complaints about this, coupled with the fact that this could potentially be a fatal defect, one would think that an NHTSA sponsored investigation and a recall would have already been issued by now! I mean, it's only been 6 years!!!!.
Takata recall - several cracks have formed on the top of the dashboard. The biggest crack is located at the top corner of the passenger side airbag. Cracks appeared overtime despite the fact that the truck is mostly garage kept.
While driving down the highway in the far right lane. Going about 60 miles a hour we hit a patch of black ice. The vehicle started to fishtail. The driver kept the vehicle from spinning out and doing a 360. We crossed over 3 lanes of traffic, without hitting another vehicle. When the truck finally griped on to the road we had no way of avoiding the center median, a concret wall divider. Upon impact neither the driverside or the passengerside airbags deployed. We hit the wall at a 70 degree angle so it was pretty much head on. Why didn't the airbags deploy??????? from reading other posts on other sites it sounds like this happens a lot. Why isn't there a recall. Apparently there is something wrong and it's unsafe. ## VIN passed ## GMC, sierra, 1500, 2002 ##.

I have a 2007 GMC sierra that I filed a complaint about before because the airbags deployed when I hit a small pothole. After GMC fixed vehicle they assured me it was safe to drive because they fixed the overly sensitive sensor. I was driving the vehicle home in September of 2010 and the side air bags deployed again. I still have vehicle while GMC decides what they should do to fix the problem . Really? I hope they realize why they needed a bailout.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 15 mph, the side air bags deployed without warning. As a result, the front passenger sustained a bruised collar bone. As of September 7, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 11,800. Updated 12-12-2007 updated 12/12/07.
