2 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

On average, about every 3rd time I drive this truck, but almost every time if it's wet or cold, I get a warning that there is a mechanical issue with my airbags. I don't know which one, or what part of the system is failing, but the airbag warning light will remain on the entire time I'm driving and I get notices from onstar that it requires immediate attention. It's happened too many times for me to count. The first time it happened (over a year ago), I took it to the dealership regarding the issue, they thought it was likely electrical and could be fixed with a $1000 repair.

7 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

*takata recall * realizing my truck is one of many gm vehicles involved in a " preliminary recall" which has been procrastinated repeatedly at this point . Not sure why exactly they (gm)have failed to prove otherwise to NHTSA by their given deadlines. . That these specific vehicles arent affected like all the others involved. Which has said to be the " largest recall in us history ". . My truck has recently (4/1/19) had the "service air bag" msg appear in the dic along with the airbag warning light illuminated. Comes on and continues to stay on each and every time I start the truck until shutting it off . Has continued to do this consistently every single day after 4/1/19. Causing me to be even more concerned than before since my kids commute in this truck 7 days a week! I've made contact with the dealership from which I puchased the truck but can't get an appt until 4/10/19 . I also have had them tell me a time or 2 b4 that they don't have parts to fix and they currently aren't responsible for repair /replacement at this time . . So im sure I'll get the same routine speech and be sent on my way to roll the dice on whether my airbags will be suitable to do their job and worst case cause serious injury or death to me and or my family. . Doesn't seem fair to us owners who spend several thousands of dollars to this manufacturer /dealerships (gm).

8 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Takata recall I was notified in July of 2016 by GMC of a possible issue with takata airbags. I was told there was no current solution and to wait. I waited one year (2017) and called again and was told nothing has changed. I did that again in 2018 as well and was told there were no updates. Around the time of my second call in 2018, I started getting airbag warning lights and message from the vehicle. I contacted gm corporate in regards to the issue assuming it has to do with the recall. I was told by gm corporate that in no way would they be willing or able to assist or pay for any of the cost of getting this resolved and that I would be required to everything myself. I might be able to get reimbursed if the recall finally went through, but if the recall went through after I sold the vehicle they would not reimburse me. I contacted a local dealership that was not willing to help with costs either and was told it would probably be $300 to diagnose the problem plus costs of repair. I've also attempted to sell the vehicle but have had buyers back out due to the open recall or offered me below market value for the truck because of the recall. Thereby causing as of right now "permanent diminished value" I personally feel like gm is dragging their feet knowing that if they can wait long enough the number of vehicles will drop off the roads causing the repairs to be cheaper.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Struck a deer with the vehicle at approx. 75mph. The driver side airbag deployed. Control of the vehicle was maintained and there was no sudden deceleration. The cover of the steering wheel, which bears a plastic GMC logo that is heavier than the rest of the material blew exactly on the corner of the g. Due to the location of the split the logo hit my wrist like a hammer causing nerve damage and permanently stamping the GMC logo on my wrist. I currently possess all deployed srs components along with the acm that was in the vehicle at the time of deployment. The damage, aside from the srs components, was only to the bumper, grill, and condenser with minor damage to the core support where the bumper mounts (radiator, fenders, and hood were not impacted). I question the safety of the way the steering wheel split as the edge of the g has a sharp edge that could have potentially slit my wrist open. I also question the deployment of the bag due to no sudden deceleration and that if the bag had not been deployed there would have been no injury in this loss. Also I had previously had an issue where I started the vehicle on the first cold day, all warning lights on dash came on and advised me to service all systems. I turned off the vehicle and restarted and there was no warnings present. After the loss and repairs I experienced this same issue but it would not resolve by restarting the vehicle. They pulled codes at the dealership and performed a software update and I have not had this problem since. It was cold during the loss but the vehicle had been running several hours as I was driving cross country at the time.
