The dashboard has cracked in several places, and I believe, it is going to effect the air bag system and dashboard wiring, which could lead to the passenger air bag not deploying or engine stalling at speed because of pieces of dash falling into the wires.

The service airbag warning light came on and took it into a dealership to figure out why (never been in an accident). The front passenger occupancy sensor is malfunctioning. This would mean in an accident, the airbags would not be deployed because the sensor isn't able to detect if there is a passenger there or not.
Air bag light problems with the GMC trucks had a professional diagnose the problem. Scanner codes," system configuration error" this is a common problem for these trucks gm needs to address, in a accident the air bag will not deploy.

On November 29, 2018 at around 12:00pm, I was driving down the road on route 460 west toward grundy, virginia, the roads was clear, and the weather was clear, at a speed about 35mph and the ceiling airbags deployed causing the seatbelts to lock up, and shut the truck down to a stop in the middle of the road. The air bags made a loud noise, that a neighboring business heard them deploy. I was not injured only scared and startled by what had just happened. I restarted my truck and pulled off to the side of the road, and could not understand what had happened, and proceded to drive to my mother in law's work place. I then called my mom which was the original owner and she advised me to call ramey Chevrolet richlands va because the air bags should not have deployed. I had to reshedule an appointment because of bad weather and being able to get off work to take it to them for their schedule until January 18, 2019. My truck was owned by my mom and dad and has never been in a crash. We have currently around 58,000 miles on this truck and as you can tell very low milage. My wife mostly drives this truck. Both me and my wife have always practice safe driving and obeyed speed limit. The truck is currently at ramey Chevrolet richlands va and I talk to an inspector from Chevrolet by the name of tony at 1-866-446-6963 ext. 59115544 and he told me they would not fix my truck because the shocks was damaged. Now if the shocks are damaged then when the truck was shut down by the airbags may have damaged the shocks, but this truck was not in a crash, there was no reason for the airbags to deploy just driving at a speed of around 35mph. I am thankful I was not injured. I hope we can work to get this resloved.

Takata airbags. I was notified by mail june2016 of defective airbags. I've called my GMC dealer (mckinney Buick GMC - mckinney, TX) several times & they keep telling me parts are not available. This has been going on for over 1 1/2 years now. Airbags have not deployed, but am not comfortable continuing driving a vehicle that NHTSA deems unsafe.
My wife while driving our 2006 GMC sierra was involved in a t-bone accident. She was driving south in her lane and was cut off causing her to hit the car that turned in front of her. She could not stop in time and when she hit the other car her airbag did not deploy. She died from broken ribs that puncher-ed her heart and she bled to death at work two hours later, the coroner determined her death to be from blunt force chest trauma.

The front bumper was knocked back app 4 inches wrapped the frame of truck. The air bag never deployed. This was a 2014 GMC bad lander edition. It stayed in shop in okc ok for 3 months at forguson Dodge. I believe the airbags should have deployed and I have a hurt back now because I hit the roof in my seatbelt.
Takata recall: per dealership, 8/12/16 unable to make appointment to fix the recall number #49152. They have no idea when the parts will be in. Says it could tke up to one year!!!! we were in an accident with this vehicle. The truck was sandwiched between two cars, the airbag did not deploy at 35 mph. , he was injured. After vehicle came back from bodyshop with $7000. 00 worth of damage fixed, airbag light came on and has stayed on. We use this truck for our contracting business, so is it safe like gm recall letter states? I called gm back on July 1st, 2016, asked if there was a takata recall on this truck, I was told no. I told them the airbag light was on so why not recall based on other 2007 trucks? part 573 safety recall report given to the NHTSA by gm clearly shows that all 2007 GMC sierras were to be recalled in area b, which is where I live. . High humidity. Memo was submitted may 27th, 2016. I just got my recall letter yesterday, August 11th. When I called gm to complain about that, and ask why the delay, I was hung up on. I want justice for airbags that do not deploy when they should. . What about we folk? there are many of us. The airbag light is still on< and now there are no parts to fix the problem. Our mechanic says when the light is on, the bags will not work. Great. No rental car from gm and no way to fix the problem. Should we not go to work? I doubt enterprise would like a contractor to use their rental truck as a "real" work truck like we do. Hence the problem.

Vehicle's airbags did not deploy upon collision with two concrete walls, causing a life threatening tbi and also severe damage to the left arm which resulted in it's inability to control/use below the elbow, and especially the hand. This was due to the brachial plexus injury that was caused when the airbags did not deploy as they were supposed to. I have attached the report from police and insurance company (with photos).

My husband was driving his 2000 GMC sierra going about 45mph. The roads were wet he swerved to avoid another car. He hit a utility pole in what was a front end collision. The truck was totaled. The air bags did not deploy. His eye hit the steering wheel with such force that the globe of his eye deflated. He is now blind in his left eye. After the accident I checked the truck for recalls. There was a recall about airbags not deploying properly in front end collisions. There was never any notification from GMC about this recall.

Dear NHTSA, I was involved in a three car mva on 2 Feb on I-95 southbound near mile marker 131. 2. I was traveling in the slow lane during the evening traffic commute when my vehicle was struck from behind from an infinity SUV which collided and impacted withthe rear of my vehicle and pushed my vehicle GMC 2003 sierra ext cab into a late model Ford fusion. The impact and force from the SUV behind me caused rear and frontal damage to my vehicle and is est to cost over $8900. 00 for repairs. My airbags did not deploy and after seeing the photos of my full size pick-up truck it seems that their must have been some sort of malfunction that the airbags did not deploy on impact. My whole front bumper is completely damaged and the frame holding the bumper in place appears to be bent. The rear bumper to is completely destroyed and pressed under the bed of the truck amd their is extensive damage to the bed itself having been bent upward as if it looks like an upside down letter "v" and the right side of the bed also is flaired outward where it absorbed the impact. The bed of the truck also impacted into the rightside of my cab and also left significant damage. The impact was so violent that the inside wire connection to the rear window defroster had actually seperated from the window where it was spot soldered. I received severe whip lash, upper and lower muscle strain, 2 broken ribs and a severe head injury from my head striking the steering wheel. Had the airbags deployed I strongly believe that the head injury or other injuries sustained would have been mitigated substantially.
On 2-28-09 purchased a new vehicle a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 2 wd ext. Cab truck in early December 2009. Noticed on 4 occasions the gas pedal sticking and not allowing the driver to stop on more than one occasion. Witnesses were in the truck. Took the truck to the dealership and they stated after 2 days that they could not find anything wrong with truck. "just drive the truck" on December 11 the 2009 struck a telephone pole breaking the pole and the air bags did not deploy neither did on star respond. Due to this accident I has sustained neck injury, and neither gmac or the dealership will respond to the concerns about the air bags not deploying from a front end collision over 40 miles an hour doing $5000. 00 worth of damage to the truck or even looking at the gas pedal sticking. Due to this the driver does not fell safe driving this truck or putting his family in truck.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving less than 55 mph around a curve in rainy conditions, the driver lost control of the vehicle. He crashed into a tree head-on. The motor was pushed into the vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained minor injuries, abrasions, and bruises. The police arrived at the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact stated that if the air bags had deployed, the driver would not have sustained any injuries. The failure and current mileages were less than 59,000.
