Brakes since new squeeled. Took to dealer and dealer said it was normal. Have had the truck about 11 months now. Dealer stated gm now uses a different pad material and I would have to pay for it at a cost of close to $1,000 to replace the pads.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that while driving and towing a trailer, she discovered that the brakes were overheating. There was a strong burning hot odor coming from the brakes. The contact pulled over and discovered all four brake rotors were extremely hot. The contact drove and dropped off the trailer. The contact drove 20 mph and down shifted to control the speed to get back home. The dealer dave arbogast Buick-GMC (3540 s CO road 25a, troy, OH 45373, (937) 335-0068) stated that incorrect brake pads were installed on the vehicle from the factory and there was a technical service bulletin for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the replacement parts not being available. The manufacturer was contacted and promised to provide a callback. The failure mileage was 500.

GMC-Chevrolet pickup trucks, year 2000 to current. Brake rotors delaminating and rusting, causing brake disc pads not to grip the rotor. Frequent problem causing brakes to work poorly. GMC refuses to replace poor quality brake rotors even under new car warranty. Serious decay in braking from high speed, towing or with loads in the truck. Dealer admits problem, factory refuses to fix. Aftermarket rotors by ebc work properly for safety in stopping. Ac delco rotors are seriously defective. Narrowly avoided an accident with poor brakes on a truck 2 years old with 13,000 miles. Well known problem discussed around the internet.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 02/02/2009

Brake pedal 'sinks' a bit toward floor, on slow stops, just before car comes to a stop. Occurs on almost every stop, brakes inspected and discs and pads are okay.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that both rear brake pads and rotors were worn, in addition to the front passenger side brake pad and rotor. The contact feels that the brake pads and rotors should not have failed at 36,000 miles. The manufacturer took a report and stated that the failure was not a defect, but rather a part of normal maintenance. They refused to assist with the repair. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 36,000. Updated 11/14/08 the consumer stated the brake pads would not move on slides. Updated 11/19/08.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

2001 2500hd disc brake rotors rusted and had to be replaced. The vehicle failed a safety inspection an the consumer had to have all four rotors and wheel pads replaced. There was no indication ( chatter, vibration or jerking) of a problem prior to the vehicle being taken for inspection. The consumer requested assistance from the manufacturer but was denied.
