1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

Brakes failed "completely", with no warning. No "warning light" on the instrument panel while driving on a public road in the county. All of a sudden absolutely no brakes. Had recently hauled a car on a trailer from emporia, kansas. Was preparing to haul calves to the sale barn. Now that would have been a total disaster. Upon inspection, the brake lines are so rusted, that pinching off the line resulted in a rupture in another location. I was trying to get some braking action, so I could drive it to a repair shop. I'll have to haul it.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/11/2020

Brake lines busted. This is a very serious problem because I was hauling a load and got extremely extremely lucky that it busted as I was pulling in driveway. I was pulling a loaded trailer with no brakes. This is a very common issue with the 2005 and 2006 2500 trucks. I can name 6 vehicles I know of in the past 6 months that this has happened too. Mechanic says it's a very serious and common issue that gm should be recalling. If I would have been at a stoplight it would have been bad. Cheap materials is the problem with these brake lines. 2006 year model is mine.

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/21/2018

In the city stopping for a stoplight the brakes failed. The vehicle luckily was able to turn into a parking lot. All fluid was lost because the brake lines failed due to rust. No brakes whatsoever except emergency brake. My state even requires a safety inspection yearly. If the consumer is not going to be notified of this serious problem at least let the safety inspectors know.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

Pulling out of a parking lot, lost brakes. Steel brake lines by fuel tank, let go causing truck to loose brakes.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

I purchase this truck 2/03/17 and have used it until 2 weeks age when the brake lines broke in my driveway, I am having the lines replaced with stainless lines at a cost of about $1200 ( I am not sure of the total cost because it also needs a antilock braking pump which was badly corroded) the fuel lings are also rusted and need to be replaced and also the transmission cooling lines need to be replaced at a cost to be determined later. I have a 1953 chevy pickup that still has good brake lines and the frame is in better shape than the newer ones, if gm looked to the past at the materials & methods they might build a better product rather than the garbage they produce now! I am glad I didn't pay $30-$60,000 for this truck.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/21/2017

Brake lines failed on my 2007 GMC 2500 and my 2007 GMC 1500. It appears to be a common problem with GMC vehicles from 2003 to 2009. Why wasn't these vehicles recalled for this. I was told that GMC was offering a discounted price for failed brake lines, but the dealer charged me full price. $1,667. 00. The discounted price was supposed to be $500. 00.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/07/2016

I was traveling south on I-75 highway about 70 mph, in motion, in northern michigan and had to stop fast when an accident occurred in front of me. I slammed/mashed my foot on the brake pedal only to feel it fall to the floor, the metal hydraulic line failed and I now have no brakes at all!! I began to press on the parking brake and down shift the transmission to assist in the slowing of the vehicle. I also steered around the stopped cars into the side and ditch of the road. I luckily had the right reactions but not all people do or cannot act as fast. This is a dangerous issue with this GMC sierra 2004. Please have it recalled. I had to have the repair shop replace all the metal brake lines as they were corroded. I have never had a vehicle fail its brake lines like this. My vehicle only has 48,000 miles on it and is garage kept super clean.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. While driving 10 mph, the brakes failed without warning. It was diagnosed that all the brake lines needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 176,395.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

2 years ago I had all of the brake lines replaced because of failure due to rust at a cost of $1000. 00 I believe the cause was poor metal in the brake lines and the way the lines are attached to the body & frame help to cause the problem.

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I was leaving a parking lot, and as I hit my brakes, there were no brakes. I limped home, using the e-brake and transmission to keep the truck under control. Upon inspection I found the front brake line rusted and leaking.

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

Truck was in shop for unrelated maintenance. Brake line failure occurred while moving truck out of service bay. Truck is currently undriveable. Mechanic indicated that this is common failure as lower quality material was used in the brake lines. Additional research on web indicated this is a widespread issue. This is the first I had heard of the problem. I am the original owner. I feel blessed that this failure occurred in a non-traffic situation. I frequently drive this truck in heavy traffic on I-94. Thanks,[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

The brakes went to the floor and vehicle did not stop, barely avoided a crash. Found pool of brake fluid under truck. Firestone auto charged $675 to replace a rusted out brake line. All other lines are heavily corroded and ready to fail as well.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

Driving down rural road at 55mph, a deer jumps into my path. I quickly brake, abs activates and pedal drops to near floor. Truck does stop, but braking much more different than normal. Deer moves on and I start moving again. Next stop sign I notice that brake pedal drops to floor, still braking, but much more difficult to brake. I made it home and noticed my brake line directly under the driver position was spraying fluid now.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

Brake line ruptured due to corrosion which was not visible during safety inspections. After applying brakes to stop at an intersection, brake line broke, causing a complete loss of brakes and loss of vehicle control. I had to use the transmission and the emergency brake to stop the truck. Several local mechanics commented that they are seeing an increase in the number of this type of failure on similar model years. With no failover system to stop the truck, this should be listed as a safety issue.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

Pulling out of my driveway onto the street. Applied the brakes when reaching the end of the driveway and brake pedal when completely to the floor. Was able to stop, being that I was only going around 2 mph at the time. When I got out of the truck, I saw a large amount of brake fluid on the driveway from a burst brake line.

28 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

This seldom used, well maintained, garaged truck, blew out the brake lines on left side on the frame, under the door, resulting in total brake failure. I had to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. I was on my way to pick up a #9000 boat. If I had that boat behind the truck, it could have killed me, or others on the road. Brake lines are not a normal service part. Replacing all the brake lines is costing me 1300, at a minimum. My neighbor next door has a similar 2004 GMC sierra, with about the same mileage, only his is a 1/2 ton, where mine is 3/4 ton. His truck had the same failure the week before, in the exact same location on the lines. Do a simple search looking for brake failures on these vehicles, and you find that its well documented. This should be a recall before people are killed. There is no way that I should be looking at brake line failure on a 10 year old garaged truck that has a tow capacity of over 10,000 #'s. How should someone detect the integrity of the brake lines to determine when the should be replaced?.

29 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I have owned many gm trucks, and never had one with so many rusted out brake lines. Why can't they make them with stainless steel lines. They should have a recall for this. What happens when front and back lines go at the same time, I will tell you, no brakes ! this is the worst one with the rust that I have had. 3 lines rust out on the GMC 2500 hd (2002) with more to come, I have 25,000 miles on this truck. The first line went about 15,000 miles. Also I only got about 5,000 miles on those firestone tires, cheap tires come with this truck. I have also noticed the frame is rusting, had to have the cable replaced that shifts the truck into gear, it rusted out. I go to the car wash and always wash the underside of the truck to get all the dirt and salt off every chance I get. When I got the GMC I was told by the GMC garage not to have the truck undercoated because it would void the warranty on it. I also had to have the cables replaced on the tail gate due to rust. Very sad about this GMC truck. Everything is rusting. I should have a lot of miles left on this truck, if it doesn't rust itself to death or get me killed because of rusted out brake lines !.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

On 9-19-2014 the truck was stopped at a red light and started to inch forward. Slight pressure on the brake pedal stopped the movement. The event was so quick and slight I thought nothing about it. I turned on the freeway and drove 30 or 40 miles before touching the brake pedal again. When I did it went almost to the floor without slowing the truck speed any appreciable amount. At that point I knew I had a serious problem. I geared the truck down and was able to avoid being involved in an accident. If I had needed to come to a full and fast stop it could easily have been a disaster. An internet search revealed gm has had this problem for some time without notice to truck owners that it exists. An inspection of the brake lines was done and indicated a failure in the brake line system due to rust. The fuel lines showed the same kind of deterioration. Pictures can be provided to verify the lack of advanced rust conditions to the underneath of the truck other than the brake line system, the fuel line system, and the drive shaft. The truck was purchased new in south carolina and has been driven there 90% on the total mileage on it.

31 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

Complete brake failure while pulling a 10000 pound trailer in camp ground. The brake lines under the drivers side broke appeared to be corision. Truck was towed to repair location. All brake lines were replaced, cost $ 950 dollars.

32 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

Brakes failed while driving down road. All brake lines are severely rusted. Is their a galvanic reaction between lines and truck that is causing this? have never had brake lines rust as badly on other vehicles that were older than this one.

33 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

Brake lines rusted and leaking.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

I brought my 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 hd in for a brake service as normal. Technician installed brakes and rotors and took truck for a test ride. As technician was bringing truck back from the test ride, brake line ruptured and split! this was the rear drivers side brake line located under a plate. Technician said he nearly crashed the truck into another vehicle and had to use the emergency brake and curb to stop the truck! with all the trucks out there, gm's trucks seem to have the highest brake line failure. I am writing to you to inform you of the problem that could endanger the lives of anyone driving the vehicle as well as the people around it! my hope is that gm sees there is a problem and corrects it before any fatalities arise from brake failure!.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Brakes went out no warning, after looking on drivers side seat under truck where fluid was running out saw where brake line was rusted and it busted. So I took several pictures and called GMC, they in turn towed my truck to auffenberg of carbondale, illinois at no charge. At this time I started researching the rusted brake problem and found where alan adler (manager product safety communications) for gm said on (abc news rusted brake lines) where they were offering a (kit) to have the rusted brake lines repaired for a cost to us of $500. 00. So now today 06/05/2014 my truck is done at a cost of $1188. 05 to me for the dealer knows nothing of this. I have tried to contact alan adler through gm and no one knows who he is, I have sent many complaints and talked with many people and no one seems to know what I am talking about. My ref. # 71-1310059355 with the complaint dept. So if this man can say on the news that they have this kit and that all the dealers were told about it how can they lie and charge the people what they want. Thank you.
