1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 07/12/2020

I was driving in my city and the brakes were fine prior. I was coming up to a stop sign and all of the sudden my brake pedal was going to the floor. I could not stop within reason. Luckily no one was in the crosswalk or I would have hit them. I used the e-brake and my exhaust brake to help so me slow down. I was doing about 35mph. I took the truck home immediately as safe as I could. I called the gm dealership by me and took it to them. They are only a few miles away and I took back roads to avoid trouble. I was informed by the gm dealership that there was an internal failure of the brake booster and master cylinder. $654. 00 dollars to repair my 2500 denali truck. I called gm service already and they informed me my truck was not under the recall. This issue obviously exists to more vehicles than what they specify and you could lose brakes at any moment. Gm needs to rectify their truck brake situation. Someone will end up getting killed.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 02/01/2015

On 2/1/2015, at approximately 11:30 am, I was stopping at my brothers mailbox to get his mail while he was on vacation. When I went to stop at his mailbox, the brake pedal on my truck went to the floor with no resistance on the pedal. I pumped the brakes several times, put the truck in neutral and it came to a gradual stop over an extended braking distance of 20 to 30 feet (which is slightly uphill). There were no lights lit on the dash and the master cylinder was between the maximum and minimum levels on the reservoir, when I examined it after the occurrence. We live on a dirt road without much traffic, so I placed the truck in low range 4wd and drove it the 1/2 mile home. Upon returning home the top brake line which runs along the frame from the anti lock brake block back towards the drivers side rear of the truck had ruptured. The brake fluid in the master never went below the minimum level, so I attempted to refill it to see if I could get any brake pedal pressure back. The pedal went to the floor still after multiple tries with a full master cylinder. The brake line had ruptured where it is attached at a green plastic factory hanger. The brake line was corroded/rusted where it had failed. If I would not have stopped at my brothers mailbox, it is 1 mile down hill on an approximate 12 degree grade to the main road. The intersection at the bottom of the road is a 90 degree, t intersection in a creek bottom, where I am supposed to stop prior to entering the main road. We had just came home on 1/31/2015 from a 8. 0 hour round trip to see my son at college through the mountains of maryland and west virginia on I-68 and had driven various major busy highways including I-79, I-68 and I-81. Due to the amount of fuel which we would have used, we decided to take my other son's wrangler on the trip or I may have been sending this email from the hospital if we were lucky.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

Brake pedal went to the floor. Almost impossible to drive like that. Takes over 100x longer to stop a 3/4 ton truck. I found that the brake lines rusted out. I also found several hundred reports of the same things on gm truck online. I also heard you were investigating this issue already. I wanted to make sure I am counted as one of the effected people. I also read where gm does not consider this a safty issue. I disagree. The line from the master cylinder to the abs unit blew so I had zero brake presure and pedel. I think this should be recalled as it is a huge safty issue. I have already spent over $1000 and a week trying to fix this and replace all the rusted line. I still do not have the truck back on the road. Thanks.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

I am the original owner of this truck was on my way home from shopping, lights on the dash started blinking. I attempted to stop the truck not knowing what was wrong, the brake pedal went to the floor. I stopped the truck with the emergency brake. Opened the hood and the master cylinder was empty. I was close to home so I took the truck home using the emergency brake. I have this truck serviced by the dealer where we bought it new bob hook Chevrolet and also montgomery Chevrolet, who had just serviced this truck and nothing was said about low brake fluid or rusting brake lines. The truck is now in a repair shop waiting for parts. The truck is now not drivable and still at the repair shop.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

Experienced a complete loss of service brakes. Fortunately this occured after completing a trip while towing a trailer. Had this happened during the trip serious injuries and multiple deaths could have been the result. Investigation of the problem indicated premture rusting through of the steel brake line to the right front disc brake. The brake line to the left front caliper is also badly rusted. The brake lines from the master cylinder are mildly rusted as well.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

Went up to store and found out brakes were not working, pedal going to floor. Had to avoid wrecking. Hauled it home. Purchased and put in new master cylinder. Went to bleed the first brake and found a rusted break line over driver side rear. Could hear it sucking air when I was using the pump to bleed out old fluid. Glad the traffic wasn't busy.

A brake line ruptured causing loss of stopping power. Truck was not able to slow enough to make originally-planned turn. Truck was safely returned home using emergency brake and engine braking. Upon inspection, a leaking brake line was found between the master cylinder and abs module. All brake lines were found to be severely corroded. No warning lights illuminated on the dash.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

Trip from long island new york to freeport maine. Traveling 65-70 mph during trip on highway 95. Arrived in freeport. Checked into hotel. Went out to truck 2 hours later with the intention of attending an event. Stepped on brake, started truck, brake pedal went to the floor. Pumped the brake pedal but it would not recover from the floor. Checked under truck for leaks and found badly rusted brake lines had burst releasing copious amounts of brake fluid. The truck was towed to sears auto department who had to rebuild the entire brake system from the master cylinder to each wheel. Sears had to replace brake lines and calipers since the calipers were also so rusted that they could not be bled. If these lines had burst on the highway; my wife, my son and me would have possibly been killed or severely injured and others on the road may have suffered the same fate. I have never seen this type of rust on any auto I have ever owned. This truck has never been exposed to salt water. Roads are salted in winter on long island. (as an aside, I had to replace the front bumper prior to starting the trip because it had rusted through from behind. It seems that inferior materials were purchased by gm).

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

The steel brake lines from the master cylinder back along the frame rail on my GMC 2500hd rusted through and failed the other day, causing pressure and fluid loss, fortunately while traveling at a slow speed close to home. Of the various vehicles owned over the years, this is the first time I have had a steel brake line rust through like this.

14 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

Was driving on a local road. Brake pedal went to floor. Was able to stop and drive it home. The line above the gas tank was corroded and had to be replaced. Same thing happened in Dec. 2011. This time the line was corroded against the frame leading to the abs module. This repair hasn't been completed because of expense. I plan to replace the remainder of the lines because they are rusting inside the engine compartment leading to the master cylinder.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

I have owned my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500hd truck since it was new. The vehicle currently has approximately 92,000 miles on it. On August 25, 2010 I was traveling approximately 45 mph towing a 14? trailer as I approached an intersection where the light changed. The road surface was rough. I applied the brakes firmly so that I could stop for the intersection. Due to the rough road the abs kicked in and when it did my brake pedal went completely to the floor and I had no brakes. I tried pumping the brakes, but nothing. By the grace of god, no one was hurt as I continued into cross traffic at the intersection. After pulling into the closest gas station, I found that the brake lines going from the master cylinder had both blown out. Once I had the vehicle home I inspected the brake lines and found all the lines in extremely bad condition. In fact the lines going to the front brakes were seeping brake fluid. Having owned many vehicles, most older than this one, I was shocked that brake lines were in as bad a condition as they are. Especially in a vehicle that isn't even 10 years old yet. Brake line failure is a catastrophe waiting to happen. The dealership indicated that gm is not stepping up to this problem - hopefully you will encourage them too.
