Carrier/rack Problems of GMC Yukon - part 1

Dashboard had 1 crack known prior to takata recall, when picked up several new cracks now exist. Dealer denied any wrongdoing and suggested I purchase a cover to remedy the problem. GMC should be ashamed of quality control for dashboard as well as poor design/faulty door handles that break easily but entire panel purchase is the only remedy. No more general motor vehicles for me.

I recently purchased a 2011 GMC Yukon from my parents. They are the original owners. This vehicle was kept under thier carport and not in direct sunlight. The dashboard has mulitple cracks. Most concerning is the cracks near the passenger side airbag. What if I were in an accident, the dashboard could become shrapnel impaling myself or my passenger. Also the defective dashboard could splinter and puncture the airbag making them ineffective. After researching this issue, there are numerous complaints and even lawsuits. I am appalled to know you and GMC are aware of the risks of the cracked dashboard causing great bodily harm or death. You and GMC have done nothing to remedy the problem. I have a 2002 Honda accord that sits in the sun and the dashboard is in perfect condition.

Dashboard has excessive cracking in multiple areas.

The dashboard has severely cracked and could cause harmful plastic to shoot towards passenger if the airbag is deployed. This also causes the interior to make loud dash sounds while driving affecting the experience of the drive.

The dash has cracked around the air bag deployment system, flopping around with indifference. Concerned it will impair the deployment of the bag in a collision. This car is covered and kept from the elements in san diego. Only has 77k miles.

My dash is cracking and some of those cracks are right near the passenger air bag. I'm concerned during a crash if the air bag is deployed, the dash could splitter causing fragments to fly at occupants faces and/ or puncture the air bag rendering it useless.

Noticed the dash cracking by the air bag in September 2020 and now is cracking on driver side hump behind steering wheel.

The dashboard has spontaneously cracked in two locations after sitting in our garage. A 6" crack has no formed over the curved instrument cluster display on driver side and a 1" crack has occurred near the air bag cover corner on passenger side. These cracks are similar in location and size to others that have been reported on GMC Yukons. Started noticing the crack in August of 2020. I have received a recall on passenger side airbag.

2013 GMC Yukon denali has a cracked dashboard in 2 places. It was making a loud screeching noise and took in to our local dealer where it was purchased. They quoted approximately $1,300 to replace the dash.

Top of dashboard cracking in front of drivers seat. The crack is traveling towards the driver and at times you can see it lifting up on one side of the crack. I'm afraid that once it totally cracks it will cause issues with visibility when driving and also objects from the damaged area to fly into your face will driving. Went to riverhead GMC for my nys inspection and was told that gm will not over it.

I have an 2008 Yukon with a cracked dash board in many deferents parts. The cracks are so bad that while driving everything shakes and make all raddling noises. The section around the air bag makes lots of noise. The car has never been in an accident. Just bough the car about a year ago and it was cracked then.

Dashboard cracked on driver's side and passenger airbag.

The dashboard is cracked. It rattles and shakes while driving. This is a known defect from GMC.

The dash on my 2013 Yukon has started to crack. It sits in a house garage, except when I am at work.

My Yukon denali was backed into while parked at my work parking lot and when I got into the vehicle to drive to the repair shop I noticed that the dashboard was cracked in the upper left side of the passenger airbag. I informed the insurance adjuster about the crack and they informed me that they could do nothing about it. He instructed that I take the vehicle to GMC and have them file a claim. I then went to the dealership and they informed me that gm would probably deny my claim, which they did. So now im stuck with a cracked dashboard in my otherwise perfect vehicle. I do not know what to do now.

Two cracks on front dashboard at approximately 7 years. A mechanic had to remove the dash for a repair and the small existing crack grew into a jagged ten inch crack up onto the dash cowling.

2007 Yukon xl 1500 cracks in dash and peeling clear coat.

I work in a dealership and purchased my vehicle used in April 2016. At the time it had small cracks that extended from the dash airbags about 1" or so towards the windshield. The cracks are now quite large. If the airbags were to deploy, the plastic from the dash would also become airborne. This has become a serious safety concern to myself while driving as well as anyone who may sit in the front seat, including my grandchildren. These cracks are now about 1/4" in width and about 3" long and extend from the edge of the airbag and end at the defogger vents under the windshield. I feel that this is something that gm should be concerned about as well. It would be to gm's advantage to take care of this now, rather than wait until the unthinkable happens. The entire front dash is beginning to separate. There is a crack in the dash where the airbag is located. It appears to be caused from the airbag.

I have three cracks on the dashboard. 2 above the steering wheel and one at the top left corner of the passenger air bag. 2 of them happen while the vehicle was sitting still and the other happened while going down the street.

Dash is brittle and cracking. While driving small pieces of dash come loose and could get in your eyes.

Cracks started appearing for no reason. Vehicle only has 24,200 miles and has been kept in garage.

The plastic dash board has been cracking over the years. It is now breaking into jagged pieces that are free to fly around the passenger cabin. Cracked pieces around the air bag pose a potential problem to the eyes and face of passengers in the event of a crash. Electrical wires are also exposed to uv light causing premature failure. This vehicle has been meticulously cared for with no other major failures to speak of. I believe that the potentially dangerous dash situation has been caused by substandard materials used in manufacturing.

Dashboard is crack and crack is expanding. . . . Cheap material very disappointed.

A crack appeared on the front dash next to the passenger side airbag. The vehicle was stationary and cracked overnight. I'm concerned about the airbag working properly.

Deep cracks in dashboard, including passenger airbag area, could pose serious risk by affecting the deployment of airbag. This is apparently caused by the poor quality plastic material used to manufacture the dashboard. This material cannot withstand the summer/hot climate.
