The panoramic sunroof on my 2023 GMC Yukon denali ultimate xl spontaneously exploded while driving westbound on I-20 on March 13. There was no impact from road debris, no vehicles ahead, no overpass, and no external cause. The failure sounded like an explosion or gunshot. Tempered glass shattered with the sunroof in the closed position, showering the interior with glass fragments. Five occupants were in the vehicle at the time. No injuries occurred, but the sudden explosive noise and shower of glass created an extreme distraction and safety hazard while operating the vehicle at highway speed. The incident could easily have caused a loss of vehicle control on the interstate. The component that failed is the factory-installed panoramic power sunroof glass, standard equipment on the denali ultimate trim. The vehicle was taken to lugoff Chevrolet for inspection. The dealer confirmed the glass failure and submitted a request to gm for warranty or goodwill coverage. Gm offered to cover only 10% of the repair cost, characterizing the failure as an out-of-warranty wear issue despite the spontaneous nature of the defect. There were no warning signs, cracks, chips, warning lamps, or any indication of a problem prior to the failure. The sunroof was closed at the time. The vehicle has been dealer-maintained with no modifications to the sunroof or roof structure. This is a known industry-wide defect. Nhtsa has previously investigated spontaneous sunroof shattering and documented over 4,000 complaints. Gm has acknowledged awareness of this issue in other gm vehicles and previously issued corrective actions for sunroof glass on the Buick regal and Chevrolet cruze. Other GMC Yukon owners have filed NHTSA complaints describing identical failures. The failed sunroof glass and vehicle are available for inspection upon request.

The onstar module of my 2023 GMC Yukon has failed. This is a wide spread issue with recent model GMC's. There are thousands of reports of the same thing happenings. When an onstar module fails, the vehicle loses its safety features. No lane departure, no collision detection or pre-collision braking, no critical system checks. Even the gas and mileage components stop working correctly.
First incident: when driving my vehicle the entire infotainment center went black for a few minutes. Second incident: infotainment center has frozen multiple times. Third: infotainment center glitches last incident: a message came up saying to service the infotainment center.

Gateway system module failed during the l87 recall service. The major l87 recall (ecm update) is a major, high-load software update that frequently causes the gateway module to "brick" or stop communicating during the update process resulting in failed module immediately following the service. (TSB) speak to this, the l87 recall is a safety-critical repair, a failure of a module directly caused by this repair should be covered under a recall warranty or gm warranty. Safety can be affected as warning lights will not work due to this failure. Timeline of events. As soon as warranty service was completed before leaving bay lights were not working like onstar etc, app wouldnt connect to car, 1-2 hours after leaving service engine light came on in car. Never had an engine light on before. Took back to dealer who said it was a computer issue they corrected it. 2 hours later engine light was back on. My car has been at the dealer since Monday when they called to say the gsm had internal failure and wanted to charge me to replace it despite this internal failure being in response to the warranty service that was provided, there are technical service bulletins about this issue, this has been a known issue with gm vehicles, my timeline shows strong evidence that the failure is a direct result of the recall repair. There is gm techlink documentation that these modules can be ruined if the update process creates a high load. Gm needs to extend the gsm repair/recall or extend coverage for this repair when this happens. This is just another thing gm is not taking responsibility for.
When initially turning the vehicle on for the day and turning on the heater, the cabin fills up with exhaust fumes odor. This also happens while the car is idling and not moving. Have taken it to the dealership and they do not know how to proceed or what is wrong with it.
I am submitting this complaint to report a safety defect involving a 2026 GMC Yukon xl at4 equipped with the gm brembo brake upgrade. The vehicle is sold as equipped with a full-size spare tire; however, the spare tire/wheel supplied cannot be mounted due to interference from the brake calipers. This incompatibility was discovered only after a flat tire event on [xxx], during which the vehicle could not be safely returned to service. The brembo brake upgrade is a gm-designed option that is installed by the dealer in all cases. Despite this, the vehicle was delivered with emergency equipment that is unusable in the event of a flat tire. Gm has acknowledged the incompatibility and relies on a warning label placed beneath the vehicle, rather than providing a compatible spare or disclosure at the point of sale. This defect resulted in a prolonged roadside emergency involving an elderly passenger and a failure of manufacturer-provided roadside assistance. I believe this condition affects all vehicles equipped with the brembo brake upgrade and represents a systemic safety issue involving emergency preparedness and disclosure. Supporting documentation and a detailed incident narrative are available upon request. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Post-recall 25v274 ( & ea25007, ea25001) exhaust intrusion with carbon monoxide poisoning hazard following the complete engine replacement under gm recall n252494000, my vehicle has developed a severe and persistent exhaust intrusion that allows toxic exhaust fumes, including carbon monoxide (CO), to enter the passenger cabin. Co levels have measured a peak of 83 ppm and consistent reading between 20-37 over multiple tests. Pattern of post-recall exhaust system failures vehicle has been in for service 6 times, over 100 days, as part of the engine replacement plus (metal found in the oil pan). Since recall, the vehicle has had an exhaust smell and noise rattle issue with the following exhaust system components deemed failed and been replaced: 1. Radiator cap (leaking onto exhaust) 2. Exhaust muffler (replaced twice - June 2025 and August 2025) 3. Exhaust clamps (leaking) 4. Left exhaust manifold (warped) critical finding: despite replacement of virtually the entire exhaust system, the defect persists. This suggests a fundamental design or installation defect related to the engine replacement procedure, not isolated component failures. Documented carbon monoxide levels: between January 30 and February 3, 2026, I conducted 15+ tests using a professional-grade klein tools et180 carbon monoxide meter. Results: • peak reading: 83 ppm • multiple readings: 40-72 ppm sustained for 6+ minutes directly at my [xxx] daughter's car seat position • testing method: vehicle started via remote start, CO meter placed in cabin, readings recorded over 10-15 minute periods health impacts to family: • wife and [xxx] daughter consistently experience dizziness, headaches, and nausea when riding in vehicle • daughter now refuses to ride in vehicle because it makes her feel sick • symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning independent service station verification on January 30th confirmed "vehicle is dangerous to operate with children inside and needs immediate service. On January 24, 2026, my wife was driving the vehicle we purchased in may 2025 from ziegler GMC in lincolnwood, illinois. While traveling on the highway in WI the vehicle suddenly lost power without warning. She was traveling with our [xxx] son at the time and was able to safely maneuver the vehicle off the highway onto an exit ramp. Despite multiple attempts, the vehicle would not restart. She contacted me and arranged for a tow. We waited approximately four hours for roadside assistance before the vehicle was towed to the nearest GMC dealership, located roughly one mile from where the breakdown occurred. Several days later, the dealership completed diagnostics and informed us that the engine required full replacement. At that time, no replacement vehicle was provided. Approximately one week later, we were finally issued a loaner vehicle. As of today, the vehicle has remained in the shop continuously since January 24. On February 23, we were informed that the necessary parts had only just arrived. There is still no estimated completion date for the repair. The vehicle is covered under both the manufacturer’s warranty and an extended warranty. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Driving along on an empty road and my panoramic sunroof back glass exploded it sounded like a gunshot going off. Could have caused a wreck it was so loud and scary.

I noticed vehicle jerked a couple times when it shifted gears while driving. Shortly after, reduced power mode light came on. Vehicle did not shift past lower gears and had no reverse. Took to local dealership, they said it needed a transmission valve body overhaul. This is a known problem with 2022 GMC Yukon xl, however, they said it was not associated with my VIN. This cost me almost $2,000 out of pocket to repair.
I have a 2021 GMC Yukon with 74,000 miles I was recently told I need a new transmission. I am am trying to understand why a car that is 5 years with all the services done by lehman GMC in north miami would need a new transmission they have been servicing this car and no one mention anything breaking down of need of repair until now. I spoke with the service manager franklin and he stated to me another client had the same issue and he flush the transmission just like I am doing today and it only worked for a short time and afterwards he had to replace the transmission. I feel this is a problem with these models and GMC don't want to address it. They just want the customer to pay for the repairs. Now I spoke to the manager and the salesman that sold me the car and nicely told me he was sorry and he could get us out of this into a 2026. Now why would I buy a new car if they cannot get the 2021 right. I have included my invoice below I feel some one should look into this I feel this is a recall matter and GMC is trying to pass the buck. Thank you [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On star module quit working in our Yukon, which in turn makes it useless to have any of the safety features. On star and gm know this is an ongoing problem, but no recall has been issued. Neither company will repair unless an $1100 fee is paid. Why install on star if you know it will malfunction. Since there is a monthly service fee I think they need to make sure the vehicle has the correct parts.
The vehicle shifted into neutral while driving, locked out gear selection, triggered a transmission warning, and now will not restart.
Traction control system esc system suddenly and without warning, multiple warning lights started flashing including check engine. The vehicle lost power and traction. There was a loud knocking and metallic whining sound. The vehicle began to vibrate and struggled to move forward and felt like the wheels were slipping. The loss of these functions was alarming because it was dark, we were in a construction zone, and my 15-year old daughter was driving having recently earned her driver's permit. The car following us almost rear ended us. It was such an abrupt engine failure it scared me and my daughter.
Engine failed 1400 miles from home on 6. 2l engine - days after getting l87 engine loss of propulsion recall service. Recall service completed on 12/1/2025 - cap and oil change done - full engine failure on 12/22/2025. 12/1/2025 - l87 engine recall service done at GMC dealership - quincy IL 12/16/2025- check engine light came on - went to same dealership - cleared it told me I was fine to drive across country 12/22/2025 - full engine failure on GMC Yukon denali.
I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the vehicle I purchased from your dealership. Despite my expectations at the time of purchase, the vehicle has not met the standards that were represented to me. This letter is intended to address my concerns regarding the vehicle’s features, undisclosed recalls, and significant mechanical and safety issues discovered immediately after delivery. I discovered—through the GMC mobile application, not through the dealership—that the vehicle had two to three active recalls at the time I received it, including recalls involving the engine and transmission. I was never informed of these recalls by the dealership prior to or at the time of sale, which is extremely concerning. After discovering the recalls myself, I scheduled a service appointment. I was informed that the recalls were addressed and marked as resolved in GMC springdale. Despite the recalls being cleared, only two days later, the vehicle began experiencing issues. The screen displayed warning messages, and the vehicle developed a vibration, to the point that it became unsafe to drive. They are changing us $820+tax I was forced to use roadside assistance, it hasn't been a month yet and the dealer are refusing to cover the damage. I have been calling but they said they are busy or they use somebody else to speak.
I bought my 2023 Yukon denali ultimate on or around August 9 2023, and I bought it brand new. On may 28 2024, around 30k miles, I was on the highway and could no longer accelerate. I luckily got myself into the breakdown lane before my car shut down & lost power, ended up being towed to the closest dealership. After 18 days at the dealership, I finally had my car back with a "new engine". Fast forward to November 25, 2025, I was on the highway again, my dash lit up telling me to "press start". As I figured that was not a good idea while driving in the fast lane on the highway, I did not. In a panic I got myself over to the breakdown lane where my car turned off. This time (November 2025), I still had power, but no car turnover. After 6 days of my car sitting at the dealership, they finally had the time to look at the issue. The dealership did the recall and got the car started, but the car still had a funny sound that the mechanics didn’t like , so they were waiting to hear back from higher up people as to what to do. Today I got the call that they will be replacing the engine for a second time and I will not have my car back until the first week of January. There were zero warning lamps, zero symptoms, nothing. I am lucky that the highway wasn’t too busy in that moment, because there were many 18 wheelers on the road that day, and one almost swerved into my car missing it by about two feet while my dead car sat in the breakdown lane. Yes I called the state police, yes one trooper kindly pulled behind me to ask if I was safe and had a tow on the way. But that truck that nearly plowed into my dead car could have prevented me from picking my [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] daughters up from school, forever . To say that I am disgusted with gm, is an understatement. They’re risking lives. I should not fear for my life, my kids lives in a new, "safe" vehicle. No pun intended, but this is highway robbery. Driving out a town 400 miles away, with a young passenger in my car on hwy 459 in rush hour traffic, I started hearing a slight ticking sound then moved into a full blown knock on my drivers side ( I recorded it). Within minutes, my oil light came on and my dash notification reading "engine overheating idle" with the knocking really load. I had to cross 3 lanes to traffic quickly to get to the shoulder of the road, which was not a safe place. I smelled smoke and cut the the engine off. I popped the hood to see that there was now no coolant (that is all I knew to look for). I immediately called onstar roadside assistance. 2 hours later, I was towed to a local hotel room. Car completely dead. Not lights, couldn't lock it, nothing. I had to pay a large fee (almost $2k) to have my car towed back to nc from al not to mention having rent a rental car to get us home. The car is now at a GMC dealership in monroe nc. Of course the powertrain extended warranty doesn't cover the battery replacement, belt replacement and water pump replacement so now I'm out of pocket $1300 just to get those install to be able to try and start the engine to further diagnose if my I have complete engine failure and without transportation.

I own a 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl with approximately 81,000 miles. On 4 separate occasions, after coming to a complete stop in traffic and then attempting to accelerate, the vehicle violently jerks and shifts itself into park. I am not pressing the brake when this occurs. I must manually shift the vehicle back into drive in order to continue moving. This happens so fast, that I am only able to see a red outlined box that intermittantly flashes on the dashboard but I cannot see what it says before it disappears. The incident feels as though the vehicle has been struck from behind due to the abrupt force. This has occurred more than once and creates a dangerous situation in traffic, particularly when vehicle are behind me. The vehicle has been taken to a GMC dealership, which has serviced the vehicle since 2021. The dealership reports they were unable to duplicate the condition after driving approximately 60 miles and therefore cannot perform a repair. This issue remains unresolved. Given that the vehicle is shifting into park while in motion or during acceleration, I believe presents a significant safety hazard.
Service trailer braking system alert intermittent & ongoing for months. Electrical fault? possible fuse problem? stranded with kids because car wouldn’t start. Later conducted diagnostics on battery and starter, both normal.

I bought a car in early 2024 ive had it for 1. 5y I recently went to trade it in for something more suitable for me and they ran a carfax and mileage rollback popped up and I had no clue to begin with. They rolled back 100,000 miles on the vehicle. They’re blaming the finance company but they can’t because the finance company never had the vehicle in there possession.

On star module completely out no internet on vehicle no ability to use onstar during an emergency unable to connect to vehicle noticed it all stopped after a vehicle update.
Rear differential needs replaced.
Onstar telematic module failed. Dealer stated it shorted internally. Upon researching online this is a pretty common issue. This module is important to safety as it can detect & report crashes, help get first responders on scene in the event of a crash, etc. My vehicle was less than three years old and had an active onstar subscription at the time of failure.
The rear view camera is not sufficient for full time use. The camera is positioned too low and during times of dawn/night/dusk if a truck of similar size pulls up behind you, your camera is completely blinded by headlights. Leaving you unable to see anything in the rear view camera. This is a serious safety concern as you are unable to see if anyone is approaching your vehicle to cause you harm. The low camera placement also does not allow for an acceptable/comparable view as using the rear view mirror. The zoom does not pull out far enough to see multiple lanes of traffic and even during the daylight, if someone is approaching the vehicle to cause you harm, it would not be visible. The camera placement only allows you to view the front grill or hood of the vehicle behind you.
While engaged, super cruise failed to detect lines on road on a bend and launched the vehicle in the opposite lane without warning. This has occurred two separate times. First time was in late June 2025 on the PA turnpike. Traveling at 70 mph. It was a left hand bend in the road where it failed to detect lines on road and thrust vehicle into the right hand lane. Happened so fast there was no time to react. In addition lane keep assist was active as well. Also note lines were present on the left and right side of vehicle. Luckily no one was beside me. Second time was one a two lane road going 45 mph. Same scenario as first. Vehicle dic stated it had lost road lines and threw me into the left lane without warning. Luckily no car was coming or it would have been a head on collision. Same message o display vehicle lost lines on road.
Multiple people including my family are experiencing leaks in 2021 and newer GMC Yukons and chevy tahoes. The back seatbelt is causing leaks, damaging the interiors. This can cause mold and health issues as well as electrical wiring issues causing accidents due to shortages occurring. Check reddit on the number of complaints.
Rear doors opening while driving without notice. Child almost fell out of the car on main road. 2nd incident is less than 6 months. Same car.

Our panoramic sunroof exploded while driving down the highway.
Premature failure of the telematics module resulting in inability to access emergency services and other safety-related features. Dealer confirmed the components failures are widespread. Check engine light came on as a result as well as inoperable navigation features that rely on the module connectivity.
