The blinker randomly stops alerting. The blinker will still flash but the audio will cut off and stop working randomly. I have brought this to my local GMC dealer, whom I bought the car from, twice now with no resolution. The service department can’t figure out what is causing the issue. I have video evidence upon request.

38 Equipment problem of the 2020 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/22/2025

Hello, I’m calling about the gm transmission recall recently announced in March 2025 affecting 2020 Yukon vehicles. My Yukon experienced what I believe is the exact same issue described in the recall. Our vehicle lost forward gears and almost caused a crash. A certified mechanic confirmed the transmission fluid was burnt and full of clutch material, with internal transmission damage. We are asking for this to be handled under the recall, as the issue directly matches gm’s known safety defect. We need this resolved immediately — the vehicle is unsafe to drive and the failure happened before we even knew about the recall. Our GMC mechanic stated the following : needs immediate attention recommended service transmission: test drove verified no forward gears after 3 minutes of driving. Fluid brown and burnt full of clutch material. Internal damage to transmission. A transmission flush is a process that makes it possible to clear the old transmission fluid from the vehicle's transmission. This process also helps to remove residue of older transmission fluid from the converters, coolers, and cooler lines that often are part of the design for the transmission.

41 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

Vehicle went to gm for recall repairs on 02/24/25 the morning after when I cranked my car it was dead. Jumped the car off then began hearing a "clicking noise" gm advised I replace my serpentine belt as they noticed it needed replacement when doing the recall repairs. 02/26/25 serpentine belt was replaced but car still seemed to have power issues when cranking. 02/27/25 car barely cranked then while driving down the highway I lost all power and power steering to the vehicle. There was no warning, no check engine lights etc. The screen went black then car shut off then the screen said "press start to restart. " I was barely able to get the vehicle safely off the road with vehicles in front, behind, and in the other lanes. It could have caused a fatal accident. GMC still has my vehicle with no update on replacement engine timeline.

Engine or something is making a noise every time turned on and now while turning off.

43 Equipment problem of the 2024 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

I purchased my new GMC Yukon xl in October 2024. In February, with about 9,000 miles on it, I was approaching a highway intersection and beginning to brake. My vehicle put itself into neutral, and then shut off -- while I was still moving. No dash lights came on, except for a message stating that I needed to press the brake and restart my vehicle. I took my vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it and they kept it for 8 days. They were unable to reproduce the issue and didn't do anything to mitigate the problem except for doing a "radio update" and adding lubricant to a window track. I was told I have to wait until it happens again and try to record it.

44 Equipment problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

Subject: formal complaint – engine failure in 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 defect number (gm): 11662402 gm case numbers: 9-12578008672 / 53598259 / 54106961 dear NHTSA office of defects investigation, I am writing to formally report a critical mechanical failure in my 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl, which resulted in a complete engine failure, rendering the vehicle inoperable and exposing my family to significant safety and financial risks. Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule and driving under normal conditions, the engine failed prematurely. The vehicle has been out of service for over four months, and I have yet to receive a definitive resolution or timeline from general motors. I have incurred over $13,000 in out-of-pocket costs, including towing, repair estimates, rental vehicles, and continued loan payments on a non-functional vehicle. Key details: vehicle: 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 failure type: total engine failure requiring full rebuild or replacement time out of service: 4+ months and ongoing financial impact: $13,335. 58 in documented costs gm defect number: 11662402 (noted internally by gm) dealer(s) involved: midas auto service, beaman GMC (nashville, TN) I have made repeated efforts to escalate this through gm’s case advisors and executive team, but have received no meaningful resolution or written acknowledgment of my request for either reimbursement or a good faith vehicle buyback. Given the safety implications of such a catastrophic failure in a relatively new vehicle, I believe this may represent a broader manufacturing defect or quality control issue and warrants NHTSA investigation. I respectfully request that NHTSA: log this complaint into your safety database investigate whether similar failures have occurred in other 2021 Yukon denali xl vehicles contact gm for further information regarding this defect and associated safety risk thank you for your attention to this matter.

46 Equipment problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

I bought the vehicle in October 2024 ever since then I have been trouble with the differential, the automatic starter doesn't start the vehicle unless you are at least one feet away from the vehicle. I drove to work when I got off and got in my vehicle my check engine light was on. The vehicle was saying there was an issue with the battery, antilock braking system. I bought an extended warranty up to 150,000, I currently have 63,400 on my vehicle. Empire Buick GMC of white plains has not been honoring my warrantee, I had to rent a car to get back and forth to work because of fear of riding the nyc subway.

47 Equipment problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

Complete failure of infotainment system in cold weather. This is a safety concern because most controls are operated through the infotainment system and can DE distracting to a driver who is trying to operate all features of a vehicle while driving. For instance having cold children in the rear seats and not knowing if the heat is activated in the rear of the vehicle and at what temperature or if it is blowing at all. There is no manual indication of rear climate. This is already a safety bulletin for 2021 Yukon that for some reason my vehicle is not included in. Gm recall number: n212327470 I want my vehicle included since this is a safety concern ( see above ) and this should be a real recall rather than a notification or safety bulletin.

49 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

During the operation of my 2023 GMC Yukon xl at4 on [xxx], carbon monoxide (CO) entered the cabin, exposing my children and me to dangerously high levels of CO and causing confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning. We were driving with the engine running and the heater on for approximately 21 minutes when the exposure occurred. Symptoms began to escalate that day and into the proceeding days, including severe headache, stomachache, pallor, chest pressure, shortness of breath, fatigue, and neurological issues. My children, particularly my [xxx] and [xxx] , experienced the most severe effects— both were very ill especially my [xxx] . Unfortunately, we initially did not believe it was possible for CO to enter the vehicle cabin, which delayed early intervention and appropriate medical care. Blood testing 4 days later confirmed elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels in my [xxx] , the only one tested. During the incident, the battery warning light was the first indication of trouble, but soon after, many additional error messages began flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle then overheated, decelerated, and eventually shut down while driving. We were in the vehicle under 21 minutes. Upon inspection after the incident, my husband noted a severed belt and potential pulley issues. The exact cause of the CO intrusion has not yet been identified. The vehicle is available for inspection and unaltered to preserve evidence. I am writing GMC and requesting further investigation by GMC. This incident reflects a severe safety issue with potentially life-threatening implications for GMC owners. Co exposure can cause significant harm, and delayed identification in this case placed my family at substantial risk. Immediate investigation and corrective action are essential to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Time is critical, as this defect could have catastrophic consequences for other unsuspecting drivers and their families. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

50 Equipment problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

I was driving my car and it started making "clanging" and "banging" noises and jolting/jerking forward. It was scary to drive because of the noise and the jerking foward. I was afraid that my car was going to just stop working, I would get stuck/stranded somewhere or my car was going to blow up. I brought it in to the dealer two times. The first time they thought it was the battery so they replaced the battery but that didn't fix the problem. The second time I left it there for days and they told me that I needed a new transmission. The problem was reproduced and inspected by them. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. The problem started on approximately January 6, 2025. Online, I have read from other sources that 2017 - 2020 GMC Yukons are know to have transmission problems. My car only has 58,000 miles on it, has been serviced consistently, and should not need a new transmission at this low mileage point. ( 150,000 to 200,000 is the norm for transmission replacement).

51 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

I took my SUV (yukon slt 2023) to the GMC dealership 4/5 months ago because of 2 recalls, failed brake fluid leak detection and serial data gateway model. The car was repaired according to the dealership. About 2 weeks ago, I entered my garage to auto start my vehicle and my SUV would not auto start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start it again from inside the vehicle and it started. When it started, the engine light was on and on the dashboard, brake system failure was displaying. It was very strange. So, I let my vehicle idle for a couple of minutes and tried to move the car in the garage. The car started jerking when I put it in drive and a message displayed on the dashboard telling me not to drive my SUV over 40 mph. The brake system failure and engine light were still on. It was very strange. I parked my SUV and let it sit. I'm taking my SUV back to the dealership on Thursday. I'm thankful I wasn't on the highway traveling to work, who knows what could have happened. There are massive problems with these vehicles, brakes, engine, computer systems, etc. I do not feel safe driving my SUV. I drive 41 miles each way for work and I don't feel safe driving this vehicle now with all the recalls, including the engine.

My vehicle started making a terrible noise. I had it towed to the nearest gm service center. It was determined that the vehicle, a 2023 Yukon denali (less than 26000 miles) needed a new engine due to thrust bearing failure causing the engine block to be scored and contamination of debris internally.

56 Equipment problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/23/2024

Our 2021 GMC Yukon xl for the third time now has shifted from drive to neutral and then turned off on us on the highway. The first time gm changed the motor (at approximately 35,000 miles), the second time was about a month ago we were at the white mountains and it shut off on a highway, the third time was yesterday 11/23/2024 (with 61,057 miles), my wife and I were driving on 2 west bound in massachusetts and when I accelerated the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral and then shut off on me. This vehicle is not safe and on all of these three occassions I have been lucky not to be hit and have been the driver. I am a trained and professional driver and I must state that this vehicle is not safe at all. I need to find a solution to this with general motors.

57 Equipment problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/10/2024

I was taking my client to school. I stopped at the stop sign. When I pushed gas pedal to go, my truck did not go, it strained did a big jerk then went. The next morning it did the same thing & later on that day, it did it again. Two days later I had to stop at red light. When the light turned green I pressed the gas pedal & nothing. It did not go at all. I turned the ignition off and back on twice & put it in drive still did not go but was slowly going backwards. A by-stander stopped to assist me getting my truck out of traffic.

60 Equipment problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

The onstar system failed and will not work. This affects the ability to make emergency calls, report/determine our vehicle’s location, the vehicle’s navigation system, and some of the blind spot monitors are also affected, though intermittently. The issue first happened two days after the dealer fixed a recall with the serial data gateway module. We called onstar and they were able to resend a signal and it was fixed temporarily. Two days later it happened again and the amount of electronics affected in the vehicle is astounding. We called onstar again and went through all the troubleshooting and they say they can’t fix it, it’s a dealer problem now and the module needs to be replaced. The dealer states this is a common problem but will not cover it under warranty. In the beginning there was no immediate indication that systems had failed other than certain electronics not working. However after a couple weeks there is now a check engine light associated with all the electronics that are failing due to this defective telecom module. In a 2 year old vehicle, this is highly frustrating and poses safety concerns for my family.

61 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/14/2024

Complete engine failure while operating the vehicle with our children riding along as passengers. The engine failure nearly caused us to wreck. 2023 GMC Yukon xl denali with only 15,000 miles. And now, I am being told that I need a complete engine replacement and that GMC is well aware of these engine failures and the product defects, yet GMC has refused to issue a recall. To add insult to injury, I’m being told by dealership that it may take several months to get a new engine! we will be pursuing legal action.

62 Equipment problem of the 2012 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/18/2024

Yesterday while unloading the rear of our 2021 GMC Yukon denali the tailgate came down on me without warning and with force. I googled to see what might have caused this to happen and it stated that the struts might be worn out. (I am having that checked out today) fortunately, I am a 6 foot 220 pound man and was not hurt but just the day before my 14 year old, 100 pound grand daughter was taking things things out of the rear of the vehicle. If the rear door would have come down on her it would have been a lot worse.

63 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/04/2024

At approximately 9,000 miles the engine started knocking. I took it to the dealer today and they called to confirm the engine and radiator needed to be replaced as there are metal shavings in the oil. I'm not sure if it is the 6. 2l engine lifter issue or if this is something different, nonetheless, engine issues for GMC seem to be systemic based on quick research and seeing posts in forums and social media.

64 Equipment problem of the 2011 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Numerous difficulties have arisen during the process of driving on multiple occasions. The tablet/radio continues to reset, and the traction control sensor light continues to illuminate. I have communicated with the GMC service center on several occasions, and each time, no issues were found. During an oil change at another dealership, no service recommendations were mentioned, yet a list of offset services was listed on mopar. As I continued to drive, I noticed that the speed controls were limiting speeds, necessitating self-serviced accelerated drives. This has been ongoing for some time while driving and has required ongoing fuel adjustments. I have received tune-up services, coolant services, fuel services, wheel balancing, and several alignments, which have recently caused significant inconvenience. Routine maintenance has been performed, and the rpm gauge remains constant during operation. Make a unsafe drive.

67 Equipment problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

Problem synopsis: camera issues in 2023 Yukon denali vehicle information: model: 2023 Yukon denali issue description: the vehicle's camera system exhibits malfunctioning behavior after the vehicle gets wet, such as following intense rain. Problem details: initial trigger: the problem begins when the vehicle is put into reverse after being exposed to water, particularly following heavy rainfall. Observed malfunctions: the driver's side camera ceases to function immediately upon engaging reverse. Abrupt braking while in reverse leads to additional failures: the passenger side and forward-facing cameras also go black. Temporary recovery: the cameras intermittently resume operation based on the vehicle's movement: stepping on the brakes causes all cameras to go black. The cameras come back online one by one when the car rocks back, likely indicating water displacement around electrical connectors or modules. Hypothesis: the issues are likely caused by water affecting the electrical connections or modules associated with the camera system. This hypothesis is supported by the cameras' behavior correlating with changes in the vehicle's position and the presence of water. Recommendation: a thorough inspection of the camera system's connectors and modules is recommended, with particular attention to waterproofing and potential areas where water might collect and impact electrical components. Attached evidence: the attached document contains pictures illustrating the camera issues as observed during the malfunction. These images were taken immediately after the intense rain when the vehicle was put into reverse and during the subsequent camera failures. 68 Equipment problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/22/2024

I am submitting this complaint regarding a persistent and significant transmission issue with my 2017 GMC Yukon denali, which I purchased in June 2024. The transmission has been malfunctioning, causing the vehicle to jerk and hesitate, particularly during acceleration. This component is available for inspection upon request. Safety concerns: this issue poses a serious risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. The jerking and hesitation during operation can result in delayed acceleration or unexpected speed changes. These problems have occurred while merging into traffic and driving on highways, creating hazardous situations where immediate and reliable vehicle performance is critical. Reproduction and inspection: the problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle. The diagnosis identified a transmission malfunction, which appears consistent with reports from other owners of GMC Yukon models. However, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Warning symptoms: there were no warning lamps or error messages displayed prior to the onset of the issue. The jerking and hesitation began soon after I purchased the vehicle in June 2024 and have progressively worsened over time. I have discovered that GMC has issued recalls for similar transmission issues in later Yukon models (2021 and 2022). However, despite widespread complaints, earlier models like my 2017 Yukon denali have not been included in these recalls. Given the safety risks associated with this transmission defect and the frequency of similar complaints from other owners, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter. Prompt action is essential to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers in affected vehicles and to hold the manufacturer accountable for addressing this defect.

69 Equipment problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/19/2024

On June 19, 2024, my wife was driving her 2022 Yukon xl in interstate 64 in virginia beach, va, when she heard a loud pop and realized her sunroof had exploded and shattered. Thankfully, the sunshade was closed, which prevented shards of glass from entering the interior of the vehicle. She was driving alone, had not gone under an overpass, and there were no other vehicles in front of her. There was no indication that a foreign object struck the glass and the remaining glass is clearly protruding outwards. A quick search on this issue revealed that this is not an isolated incident and has been noted by consumer reports and a previous nhsta investigation. On June 20th, 2024, I contacted gm customer service. I was told that there are no recalls, extended coverage, or safety bulletins on the sunroofs. The customer service agent stated she had never heard of the issue and recommended that I contact my closest dealership for repairs. Repairs are estimated to be around $750. I am urging the nhsta to reopen an investigation on defective sunroof glass and gm to issue a recall before someone is injured or killed.

70 Equipment problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

A terrifying morning on ncus-1: the Yukon breakdown it was a Tuesday, June 4th, around 8:30 am—with dense traffic clogging the intersection of ncus-1 and crabtree. My GMC Yukon was poised at the front line of the middle lane, waiting for the red light to change. As the light turned green, I eased off the brake, and my car lurched forward, rolling a mere 3 to 4 feet into the intersection. Then, without warning, the engine sputtered and stalled. Panic set in. I had two passengers, and we were suddenly stranded in the middle of an intersection swarming with impatient commuters. The gear shifted into neutral on its own, and no matter how desperately I tried, it wouldn’t accept any changes. The Yukon was paralyzed. Every attempt to restart the engine was met with the cryptic message: “wrong gear. . . ”. I activated the hazard lights as a cacophony of horns erupted around us. Other drivers swerved and honked, their frustration palpable. Minutes felt like hours as we sat there, vulnerable and exposed in the middle of the road. After what seemed like an eternity—2 or 3 excruciating minutes—the engine finally sputtered back to life. I quickly maneuvered to the right, aiming for the safety of the salvation army parking lot just off the intersection. But the nightmare wasn’t over. Just as I began to breathe a sigh of relief, the engine cut out again, and the Yukon rolled to a stop, powerless. I managed to park it in a stall, and with the engine still running, I immediately called the gm dealer who claimed that they did not have towing. Four days later, I was given the verdict: u1962 error code—a distress signal for multiple loss of communication among several modules. The service technicians didn't replace any parts but merely performed a system reset, citing that gm refused to authorize module replacements. Despite the ominous implications from my own research, suggesting this could be a catastrophic failure requiring part replacements, gm insisted that a reset was sufficient.
