I was driving on the highway going about 50 mph and the engine just stopped. It was very dangerous, and I couldn't get to a completely safe spot. I was stuck for 45 minutes there until police could get to my Yukon and help provide safety. I had 2 other passengers in the car. All of us were put at great risk and the surrounding traffic was also at risk. The triple a towing took over an hour to get the vehicle on a flatbed because they couldn't get the Yukon in neutral. There were absolutely no warning lights or any weird noises, the car shifted out of drive and would not go back into any gear. I am waiting for the dealership to decide what to do. My main reason for writing this complaint is this is a big hazard, not only for people who drive/ride in these vehicles but for every vehicle on the roads around them. When they stop with no warning, accidents and I'm sure some with fatalities will happen. This is a critical situation, and these vehicles should all be off the road. My Yukon was in my dealership service for an oil change about 1 week prior to this incident and I had a long conversation about the recall. They said my Yukon looked great and nothing was needed unless I had any problems. Since there have been so many others with the failed engine, all vehicles with this recall should be off the road to prevent totally innocent people from being in these dangerous situations. This is preventable if these cars are forbidden on the roads!!! gm must take responsibility before lives are lost due to this negligent reaction of issuing a recall but saying it is safe to keep driving unless there is a problem. If the first sign of a problem is failure with resulting catastrophic outcomes, then just issuing a recall is not enough. This must be addressed, please. This was a terrifying experience for me and my riders. I have no idea if the police filed the report but they spent alot of time trying to keep everything safe due to this issue.

There is a safety recall but it has not yet been resolved, risking lives.
I own a 2023 GMC Yukon denali xl (VIN: [xxx] ) currently under active recall for the l87 6. 2l engine. Gm has no remedy available and has acknowledged a risk of complete engine failure and loss of propulsion, which could occur without warning. This is the primary vehicle I have for transporting my family of seven, including a toddler. I am significantly upside down on the loan, and the dealership cannot guarantee it is safe to drive. I am requesting that NHTSA escalate the urgency and hold the manufacturer accountable for timely resolution or replacement. ” information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. On 05. 29. 25 my 2021 GMC Yukon denali with 24,000 experienced engine issues and ultimately a total failure. While driving at 65 miles an hour the engine light began blinking and a thumping/knocking noise began on the front passenger side of the vehicle. I was 1 mile away from the gm dealership and went there immediately. They called me two hours later confirming the engine failure and that it would have to be replaced. They stated, however, the engine is experiencing a national backorder. No timeline has been provided for the engine to be received or replaced. I am curious to know if the new engine will come from the same engine group that is currently having issues, and if this can happen again.

I purchased a 2015 GMC Yukon in March 2024 I drive the vehicle 9 mons, 7500 miles the vehicle has been in service at my local dealership since Dec 13, 2024, for engine and transmission replacement, I have had the vehicle back 3 weeks not the warning light and service warning chime for the "service trailer brake system is on, I have not ever use a trailer with the vehicle, I was told the vehicle needs a wire harness, I have read this a problem in these vehicles that has not been addressed GMC with a recall, I have put a lot of money in the vehicle. This is an well documented failure in the trailer brake system that gm should repair at no cost to the consumer.

I own a 2023 GMC Yukon denali with the 6. 2l v8 engine. A safety recall was recently issued for this vehicle due to a potential engine defect that could result in sudden and severe failure. However, gm has not provided a remedy, and dealerships are unable to offer any repair or trade-in options while the recall remains open and unresolved. I live in a rural area with limited cell service and long distances between towns. This makes the potential for sudden engine failure even more dangerous. Out of serious concern for my family’s safety, I no longer feel comfortable allowing my wife or our [xxx] child to ride in or use the vehicle. The risk of being stranded—or worse, getting into an accident due to engine failure—is too great given our location and the nature of this defect. I attempted to trade in the vehicle at a GMC dealership to get into a safer and unaffected vehicle, but the dealer refused to accept it because of the recall. This leaves me stuck with a vehicle that has a known safety issue and no solution in sight, limiting both my transportation options and peace of mind. There were no warning lights or prior symptoms before the recall. The issue was disclosed by the manufacturer. A dealer has confirmed the recall is active, but no fix exists. This situation is unacceptable and has real-world safety and financial consequences for families like mine. I urge the NHTSA to hold gm accountable and ensure a remedy is made available immediately to protect consumers who are left in limbo by this unresolved and serious safety defect. While on vacation, 2023 GMC started making a very loud fan noise. Brought to two dealerships and displayed code for coolant flow control valve. We were told we can drive it home but to bring it to our dealership. Trying to drive home was a major safety concern. While on the highway our vehicle would suddenly lose speed and the engine would get quite loud. Causing us to pull over and wait…. With 5 kids. It’s been 6 weeks and no word when this will be fixed. All our summer plans are just being shot due to needing a large vehicle and our dealership said we cannot drive it.
Transmission valve body went out, part is back ordered. There is a recall for this part on 2019 to current gm eight speed and 10 speed transmissions. This is clearly one of them. I’m not sure why it’s not recalled?.
The vehicle main information cluster randomly goes in and out and now has completely stopped working. This is the information display that shows park, nuetral, drive, reverse, fuel gauge, digital mph and other information such as oil tire pressure, turn signals, forward collision. Just knowing if the vehicle is in park reverse or drive is a huge saftey issue. This seems to be a common problem on gm vehicles and I wcan't seem to find a recall issued for the saftey factor that the vehicle can be assumed to be in park and it's actually in reverse. The first time I noticed this problem was sept. 05, 2020 but it had reset when I restarted the vehicle. The problem would resurface occasionally but always came back on when restarting the vehicle. But know it seems that restarting the vehicle is not fixing the problem and the screen has been blank for the last 3 days.

Liftgate opening without pushing the button, it just randomly opens.
Onstar went down suddenly this is component in gm vehicles to track vehicle and remote start and also have subscription monthly to pay please look into this matter thanks.
The blinker randomly stops alerting. The blinker will still flash but the audio will cut off and stop working randomly. I have brought this to my local GMC dealer, whom I bought the car from, twice now with no resolution. The service department can’t figure out what is causing the issue. I have video evidence upon request.
- rearview camera system (backup camera) which is malfunctioning increasing risk of a collision and safety concern. - yes it can be available for inspection upon upon request. - problem was reported to dealer 4/15/25 for inspection on 4/24/25 - vehicle has not been reported to manufacturer, police, insurance representatives as it is scheduled to be checked by GMC dealer who claims there are no outstanding recalls on vehicle when it is the same known problem on other 2022 GMC Yukons (slt) and others. - no warning lights appeared prior to camera malfunctioning.
Hello, I’m calling about the gm transmission recall recently announced in March 2025 affecting 2020 Yukon vehicles. My Yukon experienced what I believe is the exact same issue described in the recall. Our vehicle lost forward gears and almost caused a crash. A certified mechanic confirmed the transmission fluid was burnt and full of clutch material, with internal transmission damage. We are asking for this to be handled under the recall, as the issue directly matches gm’s known safety defect. We need this resolved immediately — the vehicle is unsafe to drive and the failure happened before we even knew about the recall. Our GMC mechanic stated the following : needs immediate attention recommended service transmission: test drove verified no forward gears after 3 minutes of driving. Fluid brown and burnt full of clutch material. Internal damage to transmission. A transmission flush is a process that makes it possible to clear the old transmission fluid from the vehicle's transmission. This process also helps to remove residue of older transmission fluid from the converters, coolers, and cooler lines that often are part of the design for the transmission.

Driving on highway. The vehicle jerked and started to make squeaking, clunky sounds. Gas stopped flowing to the vehicle. Then the vehicle became inoperable. No warning light or alerts or sounds occurred before or after. It was a complete surprise.
The wireless charging pad in the vehicle below the climate control system. Yes, it is. The charging component malfunctioned and overheated the back of my phone when it was set in the console while driving. I had no intention of charging my phone, but instead place my phone down while driving. When I picked up my phone at a stop light, I laid it in my inner thigh when the light changed. The burning was so intense and unexpected I swerved into oncoming traffic and lost control, momentarily of the vehicle. I have recreated the incident in a controlled environment myself and the issue is still active. I am happy to have the issue confirmed independently. I gave notice to the dealership after it happened with no concern or further investigation. No, the vehicle has not. No, no warning at all. In fact this is my 3rd GMC Yukon since 2016 and all 3 have had the wireless charging pad, I have had the same phone as my last one. I never had an issue or experienced anything like this.
The onstar module becomes inoperable due to a fault with the onstar module. This is a known issue on many forums and gm has yet to issue a fix with mass reported onstar module failures. This fault renders useless the safety systems.
Vehicle went to gm for recall repairs on 02/24/25 the morning after when I cranked my car it was dead. Jumped the car off then began hearing a "clicking noise" gm advised I replace my serpentine belt as they noticed it needed replacement when doing the recall repairs. 02/26/25 serpentine belt was replaced but car still seemed to have power issues when cranking. 02/27/25 car barely cranked then while driving down the highway I lost all power and power steering to the vehicle. There was no warning, no check engine lights etc. The screen went black then car shut off then the screen said "press start to restart. " I was barely able to get the vehicle safely off the road with vehicles in front, behind, and in the other lanes. It could have caused a fatal accident. GMC still has my vehicle with no update on replacement engine timeline.
Engine or something is making a noise every time turned on and now while turning off.
I purchased my new GMC Yukon xl in October 2024. In February, with about 9,000 miles on it, I was approaching a highway intersection and beginning to brake. My vehicle put itself into neutral, and then shut off -- while I was still moving. No dash lights came on, except for a message stating that I needed to press the brake and restart my vehicle. I took my vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it and they kept it for 8 days. They were unable to reproduce the issue and didn't do anything to mitigate the problem except for doing a "radio update" and adding lubricant to a window track. I was told I have to wait until it happens again and try to record it.
Subject: formal complaint – engine failure in 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 defect number (gm): 11662402 gm case numbers: 9-12578008672 / 53598259 / 54106961 dear NHTSA office of defects investigation, I am writing to formally report a critical mechanical failure in my 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl, which resulted in a complete engine failure, rendering the vehicle inoperable and exposing my family to significant safety and financial risks. Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule and driving under normal conditions, the engine failed prematurely. The vehicle has been out of service for over four months, and I have yet to receive a definitive resolution or timeline from general motors. I have incurred over $13,000 in out-of-pocket costs, including towing, repair estimates, rental vehicles, and continued loan payments on a non-functional vehicle. Key details: vehicle: 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 failure type: total engine failure requiring full rebuild or replacement time out of service: 4+ months and ongoing financial impact: $13,335. 58 in documented costs gm defect number: 11662402 (noted internally by gm) dealer(s) involved: midas auto service, beaman GMC (nashville, TN) I have made repeated efforts to escalate this through gm’s case advisors and executive team, but have received no meaningful resolution or written acknowledgment of my request for either reimbursement or a good faith vehicle buyback. Given the safety implications of such a catastrophic failure in a relatively new vehicle, I believe this may represent a broader manufacturing defect or quality control issue and warrants NHTSA investigation. I respectfully request that NHTSA: log this complaint into your safety database investigate whether similar failures have occurred in other 2021 Yukon denali xl vehicles contact gm for further information regarding this defect and associated safety risk thank you for your attention to this matter.
Transmission failed at 100,000 miles stalling vehicle brakes pushing back on me.
I bought the vehicle in October 2024 ever since then I have been trouble with the differential, the automatic starter doesn't start the vehicle unless you are at least one feet away from the vehicle. I drove to work when I got off and got in my vehicle my check engine light was on. The vehicle was saying there was an issue with the battery, antilock braking system. I bought an extended warranty up to 150,000, I currently have 63,400 on my vehicle. Empire Buick GMC of white plains has not been honoring my warrantee, I had to rent a car to get back and forth to work because of fear of riding the nyc subway.
Complete failure of infotainment system in cold weather. This is a safety concern because most controls are operated through the infotainment system and can DE distracting to a driver who is trying to operate all features of a vehicle while driving. For instance having cold children in the rear seats and not knowing if the heat is activated in the rear of the vehicle and at what temperature or if it is blowing at all. There is no manual indication of rear climate. This is already a safety bulletin for 2021 Yukon that for some reason my vehicle is not included in. Gm recall number: n212327470 I want my vehicle included since this is a safety concern ( see above ) and this should be a real recall rather than a notification or safety bulletin.
Steering jerks sometimes transmission would not go into gear just raves up and then there’s times when it drive normal transmission bangs shifts hard stutters late shift driver assist blocked.
During the operation of my 2023 GMC Yukon xl at4 on [xxx], carbon monoxide (CO) entered the cabin, exposing my children and me to dangerously high levels of CO and causing confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning. We were driving with the engine running and the heater on for approximately 21 minutes when the exposure occurred. Symptoms began to escalate that day and into the proceeding days, including severe headache, stomachache, pallor, chest pressure, shortness of breath, fatigue, and neurological issues. My children, particularly my [xxx] and [xxx] , experienced the most severe effects— both were very ill especially my [xxx] . Unfortunately, we initially did not believe it was possible for CO to enter the vehicle cabin, which delayed early intervention and appropriate medical care. Blood testing 4 days later confirmed elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels in my [xxx] , the only one tested. During the incident, the battery warning light was the first indication of trouble, but soon after, many additional error messages began flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle then overheated, decelerated, and eventually shut down while driving. We were in the vehicle under 21 minutes. Upon inspection after the incident, my husband noted a severed belt and potential pulley issues. The exact cause of the CO intrusion has not yet been identified. The vehicle is available for inspection and unaltered to preserve evidence. I am writing GMC and requesting further investigation by GMC. This incident reflects a severe safety issue with potentially life-threatening implications for GMC owners. Co exposure can cause significant harm, and delayed identification in this case placed my family at substantial risk. Immediate investigation and corrective action are essential to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Time is critical, as this defect could have catastrophic consequences for other unsuspecting drivers and their families. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. I was driving my car and it started making "clanging" and "banging" noises and jolting/jerking forward. It was scary to drive because of the noise and the jerking foward. I was afraid that my car was going to just stop working, I would get stuck/stranded somewhere or my car was going to blow up. I brought it in to the dealer two times. The first time they thought it was the battery so they replaced the battery but that didn't fix the problem. The second time I left it there for days and they told me that I needed a new transmission. The problem was reproduced and inspected by them. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. The problem started on approximately January 6, 2025. Online, I have read from other sources that 2017 - 2020 GMC Yukons are know to have transmission problems. My car only has 58,000 miles on it, has been serviced consistently, and should not need a new transmission at this low mileage point. ( 150,000 to 200,000 is the norm for transmission replacement).
I took my SUV (yukon slt 2023) to the GMC dealership 4/5 months ago because of 2 recalls, failed brake fluid leak detection and serial data gateway model. The car was repaired according to the dealership. About 2 weeks ago, I entered my garage to auto start my vehicle and my SUV would not auto start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start it again from inside the vehicle and it started. When it started, the engine light was on and on the dashboard, brake system failure was displaying. It was very strange. So, I let my vehicle idle for a couple of minutes and tried to move the car in the garage. The car started jerking when I put it in drive and a message displayed on the dashboard telling me not to drive my SUV over 40 mph. The brake system failure and engine light were still on. It was very strange. I parked my SUV and let it sit. I'm taking my SUV back to the dealership on Thursday. I'm thankful I wasn't on the highway traveling to work, who knows what could have happened. There are massive problems with these vehicles, brakes, engine, computer systems, etc. I do not feel safe driving my SUV. I drive 41 miles each way for work and I don't feel safe driving this vehicle now with all the recalls, including the engine.
During my last oil change had the update for the software recall. Onstar module was killed with this update, and the part 85560244 is discontinued. Now I don't have onstar, wifi, along with other safety features like speed, maps, etc. This is a major concern.
My vehicle started making a terrible noise. I had it towed to the nearest gm service center. It was determined that the vehicle, a 2023 Yukon denali (less than 26000 miles) needed a new engine due to thrust bearing failure causing the engine block to be scored and contamination of debris internally.
Engine had to be replaced at 25000 miles.
My onstar module crashed. I cant use any of my features. What if im in a wreck? I paid so much money for this car only for it to crap out like this. Not to mention the part is on back order and have no idea when it will come in!!.
