36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

I had just backed the truck out of a parking space (while turning) and shifted the transmission into 'drive' with my foot pressing the brake pedal (not the gas pedal). When I took my foot off the brake pedal in order to transfer it to the gas pedal the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward without my foot ever pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle traveled forward about 20 feet before I was able to stop it by pressing the brake pedal. I am a retired general motors safety engineer and I know I was not pressing the gas (accelerator) pedal when this sudden acceleration event occurred. I believe this type of event occurred one other time while I was driving this vehicle. However, I am not as clear about the circumstances surrounding this previous event.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

We experienced catastrophic engine failure consistent with the current outstanding recall. A gm dealership replaced the parts that failed (crankshaft and connecting rods) however, based on the recall that was issued, the serial number on our engine would qualify under the remedies indicated by gm for a complete engine replacement, however, our VIN number is not currently included in the recall even though our year, make and model for the car and engine are consistent with other recalled vehicles. The gm dealer indicated that the catastrophic engine failure was not due to any lack or neglected maintenance and felt that our vehicle should be included in the recall. My wife and two toddler children primarily use this vehicle and I have serious concerns about their safety and would like to feel confident about their use of the vehicle.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/27/2025

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact received notice of NHTSA id number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, he and his wife observed noises emanating from the engine compartment. On another occasion while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled, and a "transmission unable to shift" message appeared. The gear selector was placed in park (p), and the vehicle was restarted, after which it drove normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but it was not diagnosed due the manufacturer only allowing certain vehicle to be repaired at this time, even with the failures that had transpired, and no repairs were made at that time. The contact stated that while driving home in pitch darkness at approximately 30 mph on a windy road, the vehicle stalled. While attempting to steer the vehicle off the road, it remained halfway in the street and nearly caused over 15 accidents. One near-accident involved a motorcyclist who came around a turn, narrowly missed the vehicle, fell into the street, and was almost hit by oncoming traffic. No police reports were filed as the police could not assist at that time. The contact and her daughter did not sustain injuries but were severely traumatized. It was uncertain if the motorcyclist sustained injuries. The contact stated that when the vehicle was being towed, it would not go into neutral, and the contact observed the frame cracking while being hauled on the tow truck. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/27/2025

My vehicle’s engine failed for the second time while driving on the road. The first time a few months ago while my wife was driving. The engine failed and brakes failed. Fortunately she was on a back road a coasted to a stop. Car was towed to dealership. They said there was no problem. Received recall letter about a month ago outlining this issue. Yesterday, [xxx], I was driving with my daughter and the car stopped again while driving. I was in traffic and narrowly missed an accident. Gwinnett county police came to the scene and towed the vehicle to the dealership. I am not sure if the female officer made a report. But she requested the tow truck because I was blocking traffic. We often drive on the highway for work commutes. This could have happened and anyone in my family could have been fatally injured. I would like GMC purchase this vehicle back or replace with a safer model comparable or better. The service department called me this morning from jim ellis GMC in buford, georgia 678-902-8677, 3600 buford drive 30519. I was told that there is no recall for my truck. He told me that there is a safety investigation for a recall. I told him I can bring the letter. He decline. I asked for a courtesy vehicle. He said no, he would have to make a report and it would be up to 48 hours. Once it’s reviewed , then I could go to enterprise car rental to pick up a car. Maybe. The first time rick hendrick GMC duluth , GA 470-822-3779, 3344 commerce Ave, duluth, GA had my truck for about 2 weeks. No fix. No courtesy vehicle or rental. Now I’m without my vehicle for unlimited time. The jim elis tech, did acknowledge that there is no fix for what is going on. The local GMC dealers are not making this easy or putting the safety of its customers as a priority. These trucks are not safe on the road. This truck cost nearly $100,000 and it is not safe to drive. GMC has a record of the 1st service incident and this latest just happened yesterday. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/26/2025

We own a 2016 GMC Yukon XLT denali with the gm 6. 2 engine. On Saturday, July 26, 2025 our vehicle suddenly lost power and became undrivable in traffic. We had it towed to our gm dealership who still has the vehicle (reiselman GMC- springfield, TN) they called today and said the engine could not be repaired. They stated it had no compression in cylinder 8. The said our only option was a new engine. This is the second catastrophic failure we have had. In November 2021 we experienced another catastrophic failure when the vehicle suddenly lost power. The engine required a valve and valve spring and seal on cylinder #1. This is 2 major failures we have had which could have been dangerous had we not been able to get out of traffic. The vehicle currently has 116k miles. These types of major failures in a vehicle that has been serviced according to schedules and receives only typical local and commuter use is out of the norm. It is the first generation of gm's 6. 2l engine and the sister engine to the one currently under major recall and no-sell orders. We believe that gm knows of these issues as we have spoken with other people who have had similar problems. The problems involve the valve train and the crank and pistons much like the recall on the later models. Please advise what we need to do to move our complaint through the system to see if we can get some relief on this matter. The dealer still has the vehicle so we don't have any paperwork yet on the latest incident. I will send the November 2021 information.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

All of a sudden while driving on I-76w in PA, the vehicle mad a loud click noise, started squealing and randomly slowing down as if we were slamming on the brakes, but it was all engine related. Then it was shaking vigorously while we were parked. We got towed to a local shop in the middle of nowhere, and they just called stating it could be a valve spring that broke and they’d have to take the valve cover off to determine it.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

Vehicle engine seized. Approx 80,000 miles. After discussion with mechanic and dealership, this problem is common with gm l87 6. 2l gas engines. Engine seize likely caused from defective crank bearings. No warning light, oil was in engine, vehicle recently serviced. No oil warning light on dash or temperature sensor on dash, or check engine light. Drove car on road trip - when arrived at destination parked car - few hours later went to start vehicle and wouldn't start. My VIN is not subject to recall - currently; however, many 2021 gm engines are recalled. Why wouldn't my 2021 engine be included in this recall? or all customers notified of potential dangers? I frequently drive carpools with many children in the car - and an engine seizure at any point while driving puts me as driver and any passengers at risk. Vehicle currently being towed to dealer for 2nd diagnosis. First autobody shop diagnosed with engine seizure.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/12/2025

I received an official safety recall notice from gm (recall number n252494000) for my 2021 GMC Yukon due to a defect in the engine's connecting rod or crankshaft components. Gm stated that this defect can cause engine failure and loss of propulsion, which significantly increases the risk of a crash. The notice also confirmed that parts to fix the issue are currently unavailable and provided no timeline for resolution. Despite the serious safety risk, gm and my local dealer have not offered a loaner vehicle while waiting for the repair, leaving me without a safe means of transportation. I am filing this complaint because I believe gm is not taking sufficient steps to protect customers from a known and documented safety hazard.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/06/2025

Speed control became stuck and I had to hit my breaks to stop acceleration. Vehicle stopped shifting while driving down the road periodically. Warning collision lights and traction control lights randomly come on with nothing in front of vehicle. Yesterday vehicle would not start or even unlock. When I did get the vehicle to start by manually unlocking it and trying over and over it would not go forward or backward although the engine did rev up. All warning lights were on including traction control and check engine. It did randomly start moving but the “service steering column” light and check engine light are still on . The car periodically revs up while going down a hill when it needs to downshift instead. It has completely shut off driving down the road through town and stopped. I had to hurry and turn it back on as there were cars behind me. It’s a 2023 and I don’t feel safe driving it with my kids.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/03/2025

Driving down the interstate and engine gave out, started shaking, and started losing speed. No warning, in the middle of the night with two young kids in the car. Sat on the side of the highway in the pitch dark. 2 days later truck was towed but the GMC had no one to look at it. Had it towed again and that GMC dealership said it was the engine and they see it all the time with that year/make/model. $16,000 for new engine. Contacted GMC and they stated that year is not included in the recall. Research this issue on google and most owners of the same year/make/model have the same issue with no help to solve the problem.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

Vehicle equipped with 6. 2l v8 engine. Have been experiencing hesitation upon acceleration, decrease in power/reduced performance, trouble starting, abnormal shifting (particularly from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear) for about two months. On two separate occassions(once about 1yr ago and the second time about a week ago) during normal use of the vehicle, the car started to shudder and the cel began flashing. Both times I immediately pulled over and shut off the vehicle. Fluids were good, car has never overheated, regular maintenance has been performed as well. When I turned the car back on, the light was off and didn't show any signs that there was an issue. Two days ago during normal use of the car at about 35mph, a loud knocking/ticking sound started. I was about 1/8 mile from my destination so I attempted to make it there. Driveway is uphill and when I accelerated to get up the hill the sound got much louder and ticking was twice as fast. Shut off the car, let it cool, and knocking sound was just as bad the next time I started the car. Had the car towed to prevent damaging the vehicle further. This car is financed and I have three payments left on the 54 month contract. Today I reached out to the dealer about the issue and asked if I should bring my car to their service dept. I explained how I have been experiencing most of the issues that gm has identified as warning signs that indicate a potential engine failure and I was told theres no way my car has a recalled engine and the guy laughed at me when I tried to give him the information I found on the NHTSA website. Not really sure who I'm supposed to call to get some help with this issue.
