While driving down the hwy on approximately 04/08/2020 I heard a loud pop and then a ticking sound. I pulled off the side of the road to look at the motor to find that 4 of my exhaust manifold bolts were broken off. Both of the front and rear bolts on both manifolds were missing and the front passenger side exhaust port was leaking. After taking it to a shop to be looked at, the mechanic stated that this is a common problem with gm v8 engines and has been for years. This issue could cause an accident if someone gets out of their vehicle on the side of the road and they or another operator isn't paying attention, someone could get run over. I don't have any pictures as my SUV is in the shop being repaired.

Found a broken off exhaust manifold bolt on driveway 3 years ago. Found another broken one today. Both are from the same side. Now instead of 6 bolts I have 4 bolts. This is causing an exhaust leak, engine light and emissions problems that harm the environment. . Read more...

A bolt head for the exhaust manifold broke off and is causing emission problems.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that white smoke emitted from the tail pipe. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that one of the cylinder heads had fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was not available.
Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking which could allow exhaust to get into cab.
Upon start up of vehicle, a ticking noise was heard from the engine compartment. Upon inspection, found that the left rear exhaust bolt on the exhaust manifold had broken off causing exhaust leak. Upon investigation on the internet, this is a very common issue with the gm 6. 0 liter and other engines. This is a seriouse safety defect and also causes the emissions controls of the engine to be inoperable. Possible safety issues can and do include; carbon monoxide poisoning and the possiblity of engine compartment failure.

It was determined that the drivers side exhaust manifold bolts were snapped off from the left side of the engine and it was only being held on by 2 of the original bolts. This could have fully broken off while the vehicle was in motion and jammed into my steering shaft! after a very simple google search about gm 6. 0 engine exhaust bolts snapping off, I discovered this has happened to thousands of engines of the 4. 8, 5. 3, and 6. 0 size.
Exhaust manifold mounting bolts fail. Manifold separates from cylinder head causing exhaust leak .
Purchased 2003 Yukon xl failed state inspection because of broken manifold exhaust bolts caused leaking manifold gasket. Emission and possible fire potential due to leaking manifold. Repair cost estimated in access of $1,700.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that there was a flapping noise that came from the exhaust. There were exhaust fumes inside the cabin of the vehicle as well. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they determined that the manifold bolts were corroded fractured. The failure had also occurred in the past. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000. The current mileage was 69,000.
Recently, my check engine light came on in my 2006 Yukon denali xl w/ a 6. 0 engine. The diagnostic test showed a gas cap problem. However, this did not fix the issue. Several weeks later, the engine started making what sounded like a clicking sound. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that there was a leak in the driver's side exhaust manifold. While in the shop, the mechanic discovered 2 bolts that were broken on the driver's side and it was found that one of the bolts on the passenger side is broken, but the passenger side exhaust manifold was not yet leaking. The auto shop was able to extract one of the bolts, but has found it impossible to remove the other on the driver's side without pulling the engine. This is a necessary repair because improper exhaust is a direct violation of epa standards. Furthermore, engine fires can result from this type of issue. Upon further research, I have found numerous other gm vehicle owners with a similar exhaust manifold bolt problem. In fact, there is a video created by carquestions on this exact issue. . I am one of the many reporting broken exhaust manifold bolts on my truck. I had 3 studs rattle out, 2 break off inside head gasket and only 1 remain in tact. Truck is in great condition otherwise and has had excellent service record. Only problem now it is costing me $2500 to pull engine and send it to a machine shop to have the final stud removed from head with only 170000 km's on it this is ludicrous. I am a very unhappy customer that this is not a recall as it happens to almost all of these trucks between 09 and 2007. . Read more...
Front left exhaust manifold bolt head broke off. When the engine is cold upon startup exhaust gases escape near a water temperature sensor. Which could make the engine light come on and not pass inspection or cause a fire.
When vehicle was inspected I was told that there was an exhaust leak in exhaust manifold. Dealership found a broken bolt on left side and replaced it. I have just been informed that I now as of 01/30/2012 with 62,760 miles I have another bolt broken on the right side. After researching on internet it is obvious that gm has a design fault in using lower grade bolt which are breaking in large numbers. I implore the ntsa to require gm to replace these defective bolts either by recall or as incident occurs at no cost to car owners. I am told that the exhaust leak can cause failure of the catalytic converter and other engine failure problems which can result in safety issues.
The problem I'm having is a horrible bubbling or gargling sound emmiting from my 2004 Yukon exhaust. It sounds really bad, enough to turn peoples heads while I'm sitting at the conveneience store or a drive thru. The dealer in which I bought it from states that they all make this sound, but I'm not stupid. I know others with the same make and year model and they do not have this problem. I just want it fixed. If I'm willing to pay $44,000 for a vehicle I expect it to look and sound great or at least look and sound like a new one. Please help!.
Exhaust system on my new 04 Yukon denali has an excessive amount of popping and cracking noise after it is turned off. I had an 03 denali prior to this and it did not do this. This has gone on since I got the vehicle. Dealer says there is nothing they can do about it.
When my 2004 GMC Yukon warms up, a loud repetitive clanging noise eminates from the exhaust system. This can be heard while driving and continues for a period after the vehicle is turned off. The Yukon was purchased new on 5/31/04 and began making the noise within 500 miles. GMC says engineering has been working on the problem since 11/03 and it involves metal in the exhaust system being deformed by the heat. I have spoken with several other Yukon owners and made a point to listen to other Yukons on the road and have not found another Yukon exhibiting the same problem. GMC refuses to replace the exhaust system. If the metal is deformed, how do I know that it is not leaking fumes into the passenger compartment?.
The head gasket leaked water, due to a faulty intake manifold. The vehicle also had problem with a wet floor, the consumer believed it was coming from the air conditioner. Dealer not notified yet. The intake manifold gasket leak under pressure which rusted and pitted the right cylinder head. The improperly torqued gaskets leaked at 10 psi required by the manual. The rear clogged up forcing condensation to build up and escaped into the rear compartment of the vehicle which soaked the padding.

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon SUV with a 5300 engine. The idle is very rough. The dealer says "its the nature of the beast". I also have a 2003 GMC Yukon xl, with the same engine and it does not do this. Are they shirking their responsibilities?.
Loud pinging noise from exhaust which continues 5-10 minutes after car is turned off, also has vibration in steering wheel and dash when at a sit still in either drive or park, rpm are not changing when vibrating, exhaust is extremely loud.

This vehicle only had 68,000 miles on the odometer and the intake manifold gasket went out allowing coolant to enter the engine. This happens on alot of these 5. 7 liter 350 engines. Repair was approximately 500 dollars. Crazy.

O-rings leaking on the intake manifold.
My Yukon xl k2500 with the 8. 2 liter engine - 495 ci - burns oil and at first the dealer said it should not burn more than 1 quart every 1800 miles which mine does and the dealer/gm tried a new pvc valve then a new intake manifold gasket and nothing helped. Now gm says a quart every 100 gallons of gas is the cut off!.
