GMC Yukon owners have reported 202 problems related to instrument panel (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the Yukon.
While driving the speedometer will stop descending at a speed and when the driver accelerates, the needle will respond as though the sticking point were the speed of deceleration and continue rising from there until the needle is over past the last listed speed on the face of the ipc. It occurs about once every two weeks and when it occurs it is impossible to know what the speed of the vehicle is. So far, it is possible to correct the problem by letting the vehicle sit, sometimes overnight is necessary, and start the vehicle and then shut it off. This drops the speedometer needle about 5mph. The driver must continue to do this until the needle has gone from the black face of the ipc to the zero mark on the panel.

GMC 2009 denali speedometer rest on 120mph at all times. Vehicle seems to rev up during driving at times. Speedometer moves at will sometimes remaining at 0mph.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the speedometer displays inaccurate speeds. While idling, the speedometer will read 40 mph or jump from 40 mph to 100 mph. The only new equipment was the rear bumper, which was replaced in 2006. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that the VIN was included in a recall. However, they would not repair the vehicle for free due to the mileage. The tire pressure warning light was the only indicator illuminated on the instrument panel at the time of the failures. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 101,000 and current mileage was 110,000.

Speedometer has quit working. We had an 2004 impala that there was a recall on the speedometer, thought there might be on this one also.

I have a 2004 Yukon denali xl, I am having issues with the speedometer being erratic. I will be driving with traffic in a 35 mph zone look at my speedo it says I'm doing 110 mph. I will schedule to have it looked at and then it will work fine for the next 3-6 months then it will screw up again for a couple of days. This is very troublesome as I really never am sure at what speed I am going and my dealer says there is no recall on this item even though I have seen hundreds if not more complaints exactly like mine on the internet so this is not an isolated situation. What can be done?????.
Speedometer failure on 2004 Yukon xl. Works fine until sudden failure. Some sporadic attempts to work after but speedometer can easily be off by 30-40 mph. This is a very common problem with these gm vehicles and is known by gm. Apparently the stepper motors moving the needles are failing. The speedometer is usually first (like mine) followed by the other gauges in the instrument panel as they are all driven by similar stepper motors. A reasonable expectation is to have the speedometer and other gauges last the life of the vehicle. A failure here and there is understandable but when you have failures at this frequency going on it is obvious that it was under designed. Gm offering to stand behind only if it fails under 70k. . . Most fail shortly thereafter.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon xl. While driving 50 mph, the speedometer froze and displayed 75 mph. The contact was unaware of the correct speed that he was actually driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the speedometer failed. The repair would cost $350, but no repairs have yet been made. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that a class action law suit was filed, which would repair the speedometer up to 70,000 miles or seven years. Because the contact's vehicle was at 100,000 miles, no compensation would be provided. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 101,2000. Updated 3/5/09 updated 03/10/09.
My 2005 Yukon denali speedometer fails to work or is erratic and does not indicate the proper speed.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned and would not display the speed that she was driving. The dealer was contacted and stated that there was a related recall; however, her vehicle identification number was not included and refused to offer any assistance with the repair. The failure mileage was 60000 and the current mileage was 69500.
The speedometer on the vehicle works sometimes and when it does, it is usually inaccurate. The time when it does not work is usually after 6pm. I have discussed the situation with other GMC Yukon owners and some of them have the same complaint.
In the instrument cluster on my 2004 GMC Yukon, the speedometer hangs up indicating a higher speed than actually traveling. Initially, the problem occurred at intervals greater than 6 months but seems to be recurring much more frequently - every 2 weeks or so. Upon initial problem being noticed, I found that other model year Yukons had this issue and were repaired, possibly under recall but my model year was excluded.
Left turn signal: when signaling left, the turn signal indicators (arrows) on the instrument panel display both arrows (left and right) as though the hazard button has been used. Took to the dealer and they indicated it was the turn signal switch. They replaced the turn signal switch at my expense (301. 23 plus 42. 50 to diagnose). Ten minutes down the road for a lane change to the left, I signaled and the same thing happened (both arrows flashing). I have no idea what the cars around me see in regards to my lights. I have notified the dealer.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the rpms, fuel gauge, speedometer, and oil gauge became inoperable. The dealer stated that the contact would have to pay over $800 to correct the failures. She received a letter that stated there was a defect in the vehicle. Both the dealer and manufacturer stated that they could not provide repairs under the "defect campaign" due to the mileage of her vehicle. Repairs were only being made to vehicles with less than 50,000 miles. The failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was less than 110,000. Updated 05/05/09 updated 05/07/09.
Speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge read incorrectly or not all . Intermittent problem. The issue comes on gradually so there is a period of time with the speedometer you really dot not know how fast you are traveling. With some simple research on the internet it is obvious this is a common problem across gm line.
2004 GMC Yukon denali: speedometer needle does not work; auto has 61,750 miles. Safety hazard which should be a recall correction by gm.
The speedometer is not functioning correctly, especially in cold weather. The speedo seems to stick and reads incorrectly. It happens daily and has not been fixed.
My vehicle is a 2003 GMC Yukon. The speedometer is not registering, and when (the gauge) is trying to operate, the vehicle hesitates while accelerating and the gauge does the same as well as the gas gauge. I know all my dashboard gauges need to be checked for malfunction. This began two weeks ago, I called doug henry of farmville to check my vehicle for recalls, only to find out it is not listed. My husband has a 2003 GMC Yukon xl, he received a letter describing this problem and got information to get it fixed free of charge. I am not responsible for this problem and I believe there are other vehicles affected in this particular recall.
Instrument cluster giving false readings, speedometer stuck at 10 mph even when traveling anything over ten mph. Gas needle is no longer reading accurately under 1/4 tank , which has caused some embarrassing moments running out of gas when I thought I had fuel. I have a friend who has an avalanche and her instrument panel is doing the same thing, her speedometer and tach are now malfunctioning. Has anyone managed to find out if we can get this replaced via recall?.
I bought a used 2004 GMC Yukon in March of 2008, previously it had been a fleet vehicle. We purchased the vehicle in colorado, and drove it to washington state. Shortly after we arrived, the tachometer stopped working. It gets stuck at ether 25 rpms, or 75 rpms. The speedometer reads accurately, and only recently the fuel gauge has been sticking. I had gotten a notice that these parts had been "recalled" but only for a certain amount of time, for vehicles over 7,000 miles on it. At the time my vehicle only had about 6,500 miles. When I called a GMC office they told me there was nothing they could do.
We purchased our GMC denali used in July 2007. In June of this year I noticed sometimes that when I would look at the speedometer it would say that I was doing about 40 mph, when I knew that I was not going that speed. I was keeping up with traffic when I first noticed it and the speed limit was 55mph. About a month later I noticed that the speed odometer would say I was not moving at all that my speed was 0, and I would be driving at the time. Then in July of this year we were coming back from a family day trip and we were pulled over for speeding. The officer informed us that we were going about 55 when the speed limit was 40. According to the speed odometer we were going the speed limit. Now when I drive the vehicle I am either go no speed at all or the speed odometer starts going crazy or gets stuck at 40mph. I have not been able to fine any recall on this matter.
2004 GMC Yukon xl - speedometer does not work. Will stay on zero on one day, then peg to 140+ on another. I can maintain speed via tach, but my wife is not familiar with this method. Vehicle has 54,000 miles.
I have recently purchased a 2003 GMC Yukon xl and since I bought this car I have had several problems with the speed odometer sticking at different mph or just not working all the way around. It was never the whole cluster that went out, just the odometer. I spoke to several different people I know that own anything from the GMC Yukon to the chevy suburban (total of 9 people from texas to oklahoma) and each one of them have also had this same problem. I have recently got the problem fixed. To which the receipt from the dealership states they replaced the whole cluster.
While driving down the road, tachometer stopped working. Tachometer would either show 8,000 rpms or zero rpms no matter what speed or payload was on vehicle.
Speedometer was erratic then stopped working completely (reads 0 at any speed) on my '03 Yukon.
Speedometer has intermitten failure. It registers incorrect speeds (often showing 80 moh when parked) or does not work at all.
Instrument panel cluster gauge needle -- speedometer gauge -- works intermittently. It sticks on 0mph, on a previous rate of speed regardless of increase or decrease, or displays rate of speed at 100+ mph. Very inconsistent. When the speedometer does decide to work it is about 10-15 mph off of accurate rate of speed. (compared to gps that displays current rate of speed) it was taken to dealer and contact stated that it is same cluster panel gauge of 2003-04 year models currently in recall although has not extended to 2005-06 year models at this time.
My speedometer on my '03 Yukon does not work correctly. When I'm not even moving at times it tells me that I'm going 60 mph.
For the past 2 weeks my speedometer needle has been getting stuck. Once I hit 60mph, it gets stuck there. When I turn off the car it stays at 60 so it acts as if it's at 0mph. At that point it looks like I'm going 100mph when in reality I'm going 40mph until it gets stuck past 120mph. After a few days it starts slowly dropping. It's amazing that this problem has not been taken care of after many many complaints from owners. I will make sure to give negative reports to anyone looking to buy a gm vehicle as well as to potential used gm owners.
Was driving to work and looked at my speedometer and it was at 120mph. Stopped and turned the truck off and the speedometer stayed at 120mph. Now I have an inoperable speedometer in my truck.
Speedometer indicator settles at various places when stopped, and indicate inaccurate forward travel speed. As an example, the speedo will indicate 90mph when actually traveling 55mph. The settle point, and resulting indicator position at any speed is random. I have been reading several forums about the high rate of this type of failure in GMC vehicles, and feel that it is certainly a recall item.
The speedometer failed on my 2004 Yukon xl. The needle dropped to zero while driving approximately 75 miles per hour.
Instrument cluster lighting is controlled by the auto "light sensor". When driving in the direction of the sun, the speedometer and other instruments are unreadable especially if the driver is wearing sunglasses to shade the eyes. I tried to ask the manufacturer about making a service change that would have these instruments always lighted. They have acknowledged the complaint but have no plans to correct the situation.

My 2004 GMC denali has some serious problems with the speedometer and gas gage not showing correct readings. Speedometer shows 50,60,70 when you are only going 30. Sometimes on the highway I am passing everyone and have no clue as to how fast I am going. I can be going pretty fast just setting stopped at a stop light sometimes. And I have no clue as to how much gas I have anymore. They sent out a letter that stated that they would fix this and extended the warranty for 7 years or 70,000 miles whichever comes first. Well my vehicle has 108000 miles on it, because I bought it to travel in and we drive it. They don't consider this a safety issue, so no recall. Since when does driving 90 miles an hour when you think you are going 70 not a safety issue? or perhaps running out of gas in the middle of nowhere and freezing to death.
Speedometer failure.
(1) there were no events leading up to the failure. (2) rpm gauge gets stuck on an rpm and will stay there and speedometer wont go to 0 lowest it goes is 10mph (3) haven't had a chance to correct this problem.
