1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/11/2021

I filed a complaint about this vehicle in October of 2020 when it was 5 months old at that time because it would slam on breaks and jerk the steering wheel for no known reason and with no one around. It has continued to do this intermittently as well as other erratic driving that cant be accounted for including at times getting confused when passing exit ramps where the car will slam on breaks and jerk to try to exit. I was driving this afternoon at highway speeds and the steering wheel began to shimmy (vibrating back and forth). It felt like there was a potnetial tire blow out but my tpms did not indicate any loss of pressure. I assumed the car was having another one of its unexplained steering behaviors. I know from previous experience that turning the blinker on will stop the shimmying if it thinks you are trying to switch lanes so I turned my blinker on and I moved over one lane hoping it would stop. The shimmying (vibrating of steering wheel) continued and shortly there after it pulled hard left on me driving me directly into a cement barricade that was located a few feet off of the side of the road. I hit the barricade at highway speed and bounced off of it spun around and re-hit the barricade with the rear of the car which is what sustained the majority of the damage when it hit. Though I hit the barricade with significant force the airbags did not deploy. My daughter has been in the car with me on a previous occasion when the car has done this and I have complained about it numerous times to numerous people. I do not feel safe in this car. . . It only does this at highway speeds and on the highway. . . It will kill me or someone else if something is not done. I have contacted Honda cooperate and also filed a report with them as well.

2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

When the car is switched on and started driving, randomly the yellow passenger airbag light on the center dashboard would start blinking. Blinks with a 5 second gap almost. And randomly after that happens, I get the are airbag light on my dash saying "suppliment system restraint problem. See your dealer". In order to reset this, I have to switch off the car, wait for a few minutes and start again. Sometimes this issue would come right away after starting the car, sometime not for days. Reading the code, it's gave the following code b00d5-14.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

My 2003 Honda Accord lx crashed on 10/01/2016 about about 18 months after I had my airbag serviced at a local Honda dealer 4/7/2015. When I got my car back from the dealer, the driver door had no power and could not be opened remotely or with the power lock control on the driver door. More importantly, no safety signals came on when the car started. I called the dealer and they told me I had to pay $80 to have it checked; I then called american Honda customer service, who only documented the complaint and took no action to remedy mechanical mistake by Honda dealer. I was driving on a downhill curve on a wet road after a rain. When I saw a slower car ahead of me, I gently applied the brake to maintain a constant following distance. The car drifted to the left toward oncoming traffic. But when I tried steer to get back to the right lane and tried to press on the brake, it locked up, then the car went into neutral and I had no brake and steering resistance was completely lax. My car went off road and crashed into the woods. The airbag did not deploy. I was confined in bed with pain one whole day. My transmission had locked up, then went into neutral, twice before on 1/14/2015 in the middle of traffic, and on 9/15/2016 in my driveway. We never received a letter from Honda for the transmission recall; however, we did receive letters regarding the airbag recall, the ignition switch recall, and the wiper motor recall. A year ago, the recalls came up using my VIN#. The database now shows no recall for my vehicle at all. After my car crash, I had it towed to Honda dealership on 10/4/2016 for repair estimate. I left my car and title with dealership; less than 48 hours later I called to get car back for crash investigation and lawsuit, the car had been destroyed by Honda dealer closing all further inquiries. American Honda took no responsibility when I contacted them.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2012 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

Three days ago, my airbag light showed up on my car's dashboard, although it went off after switching the ignition off when I reached my destination. It should up again the evening of the next day. This concern me . Has there been a possible oversight on the recall of airbags on my car.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2012 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

Recently my air bag indicator started coming on and staying on at random intervals in my 2012 Honda Accord. Today (may 11, 2015) I took the vehicle to the dealership for an oil change and had them check the matter. The customer service representative said the "air bag switch is failing" and recommended that it be replaced. The cost of replacement is $205. 00 plus tax. Prior to going to the dealership, I researched the matter to determine if there was a recall related to the air bags, and I found that there was a recall. I made the customer service representative aware of this. The customer service representative said the recall would not apply to my situation because my problem is related to the "air bag switch. " it would seem that because this is an interrelated and integrated system, the recall would apply. If the "switch" is not working properly, this could be the reason the air bags do not deploy properly. I never received a notice about a recall. I purchased the car in October 2011, but the car is a 2012 Accord. The three-year warranty has expired, but the vehicle only has 32,852 miles as of today's service. Is this "failing switch" covered by the recall? should I have received a notification about the air bag recall? do I have any recourse?.

9 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

I noticed that the srs light was intermittently illuminating on the dashboard of my 2004 Honda Accord. It turns out that the driver's side seat belt buckle switch is defective, According to the dealer. Honda states in their seat belt limited warranty: time period: this warranty continues for the useful life of the vehicle warranty coverage: Honda will repair or replace, at its option, any Honda seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use. This includes all parts and labor charges. My Honda dealer (fairfax Honda 703-934-8500) informed me that this wasn't under warranty because the component needing repair was an electrical component. However, the Honda warranty clearly states any Honda seat belt component, and does not differentiate between electrical and mechanical components. Furthermore, because of this defective component, the air bag system will fail to deploy properly in an accident. I feel that since Honda has instituted a lifetime warranty on any seat belt component failure, they should have to repair this defect without any charge to me. I would appreciate NHTSA looking into this matter.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2011 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

Prior to your recalls on takata air bags. The last 2 years my vehicle has been going back and forth with the Honda dealer ship regarding my air bag lite staying on, they said they could check it out but woud charge $14900. For a diagnostics fee. Monies I don't have. My vehicle is in my daughter possession who also has 2 kid ages 6 and 9. The dealership said they could disconnect the switch so she wouldn't have to see it. That is not the answer. I would hate to see if there is something wrong with the air bags and it s not on the recall list and something happens to my daughter or my grandkids . I just watched the news on the updates and the oerson that died because the air bags were not recognized as a problem. It also said she would have lived if they were fixed. (she was 17 years old). Is there a way to have this vehicle checked out not at my expense please. ( on December 6 I recently totaled my 2014 Honda odysee and my air bags saved me and the van was totaled ) my point isi don't want my family to end up like that 17 year old dead. Again to reiterate the air bag light stays on and I am not comfortable with it. Please help to fix this. Please contact me at 603-289-1541. Thanks deborah cote 90 redfield circle derry nh 03038.

11 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

Over the past couple of months the red airbag light would sometimes stay on while driving. Called local Honda dealer who said my 2004 Accord wasn't recalled for this issue based on my Accord's VIN. I researched airbag issue & saw other Hondas had been recalled. I have seen on nhsta site that many other 2004 Accord owners have had an issue with airbag light staying on. This means the airbag will not work in an accident! it is a serious safety issue. I was concerned about my safety & needed my car inspected. My car failed inspection because of the airbag problem (code 61-10). I had seat removed & new seat buckle switch installed. This cost $225. 61 to fix so my car would pass inspection. Honda recalled some cars for the airbag issue in 2007. Honda needs to look into this & fix this & reimburse those of us who have fixed it.

12 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

The srs light stays illuminated while the vehicle is on. Dealership tested the system and found 2 codes. First code read the driver side seat buckle switch fault. Second code read the driver side seat position sensor fault. Both codes are causing the srs light to stay on. The driver side seat buckle switch is covered under warranty (at 143,000 miles). The driver side seat position sensor is not covered under warranty. There was a recall issued for the seat postion sensor but my VIN does not fall within the listed vins called out on the document. Why is it that a car with two different defective parts, that are causing the same issue, not both be covered by warranty on my car but is covered for other cars that are the same model and year? now I have a new driver side seat buckle switch with a srs light that is still on.

13 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

Srs indicator remains on and it looks like it is due to faulty driver's seat belt buckle switch. This is issue recognized by the Honda via bulletin but refused to fix it. This issue related to air bag and should be fixed since it is a basic safety issue which should be covered. Both Honda and dealer dulles Honda are refused to address this issue even though this is basic safety issue for the driver or passenger if air bag does not deploy.

14 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

I was pulling into the parking space after driving the vehicle for 45 mins (approx. 20 miles). When I was ready park the car and switch off the ignition, the car suddenly accelerated way too fast and hit the building in front. I was driving into the parking space at less than around 10 mph as I had to make 3 turns within 100 feet before coming into vacant parking space. My leg was also in the break pedal as I made those turns after getting into the private property from IL rte 83. I can definitely confirm that my leg was not in gas pedal as my right leg was on the break pedal to make those turns and stop the car in the parking space. It all happened in the matter of few seconds and there was no time to react. The car came to halt only after hitting the building. Both air bags deployed as soon as the car hit the building and there was heave smoke inside the car. It was really scary because by looking at the damage the speed at the time of accident looks to be around 50 mph. It was a relatively higher curb in front and the building was just 6 - 8 feet away from the curb, I was also driving into the parking space at less than 10 mph. I am really shocked to see this kind of unintended/sudden acceleration happen with Honda Accord cars which could prove to be fatal for the driver, passenger and pedestrian alike.

15 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/18/2011

My 2004 Honda Accord had been left parked overnight on our driveway. At about 10:30 in the morning the next day,12/18/11, I got into the car, and with my door still wide open and the car in "park", I turned on the ignition and started the motor for a 2 or 3 minute warm-up. I was on the driver seat and my wife on the passenger seat with her door also wide open. I was talking to my wife with my face turned towards her while the car warmed up. After about two minutes, I turned off the motor and pulled out the key from the ignition switch to hand it to my wife still facing her with my left side towards the steering wheel. Our house key and the car key were on the same key chain and I was handing it to my wife to lock the front door of the house. Right at that moment, the driver side airbag violently exploded with full force and with a very loud bang whipping my face and my left ear. Whatever I had in my hands (my wallet, a cd and the car keys) were all blown away and landed outside the car and I was completely deafened and disoriented by the blow and the loud explosion. For the next two hours or so, I was hurting in my left ear and was unable to hear anything with that ear. Its been more than 24 hours since that incident and my ear though not hurting as much, still has some ringing. I reported the incident to the american Honda motor company but am very disappointed with their handling of this situation. They want me to have the car towed to a dealership and have it checked all at my expense. They refuse to pay for any expenses whatsoever that I may incur with regards to this incident including medical check-up. And to make matters worse, they claim that the car is out of warranty and as such they are not obligated to pay for any repairs. This is not a warranty issue, it is a serious safety matter, they cannot absolve of their responsibility. I feel totally helpless!!.

16 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Transmission failure to shift into 2nd gear some times. Car taken to dealer on extended warranty and refused maintenance due to age of car. . Many Honda's having this problem and need a recall to resolve this issue as it shouldn't happen. Second problem is driver seat belt. Air bags replaced on recall and shortly after the srs light came on. Dealer says problem not in air bags but driver seat belt module in seat buckle. Seat belt warranty for life of vehicle but Honda says the buckle where switch is not covered. You can not replace switch but must buy the complete seat belt strap and buckle. To me the seat belt buckle-strap is part of the seat belt. Honda warranty says a seat belt that fails to function properly is covered for the useful life of the vehicle. This is a safety problem as with this failure Honda manual says air bags will not fire when srs light on.

17 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Major electrical problems began about 2 years ago. Radio display won't light, but radio/cd still plays; air conditioner cools intermittently, though compressor is working and freon is adequate; tail lights sometimes work, sometimes don't; ignition switch makes a noise as though the engine was already started when I turned the key, even though it wasn't - eventually the ignition switch had to be replaced (problem still occurs from time to time); brake calipers have always pulsed no matter how slow I come to a stop; and airbag light comes on for no apparent reason as there is not hindrance to the sensor switch mechanism below the seats.

18 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

19 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Srs light stays on. This indicates that the airbags may not deploy in an accident. Honda lifetime warranty for restraint system should cover this, but they don't. Seat belt switches were checked and ok so sensor needs to be replaced. Repair cost estimate: up tp $900. Why isn't NHTSA issueing a recall for this potential safety issue? look at the long list of complaints for this in the database!.

20 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

Shortly after driver-side airbag inflater recall service, srs light came on and dealer realized driver seat belt buckle is faulty and needs to be replaced. While seat belt system should be covered by lifetime warranty, Honda excluded electric switch with the buckle. Dealer told me the only time you replace the buckle is due to the electric switch inside. To me and many others complaining about the same issue, this is a Honda manufacturing defects or serial safety design issue because - Honda claims to cover seat belt buckle under lifetime warranty, but not the electric switch inside. And only time when the buckle needs to be replaced is when the switch goes bad.

21 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

My airbag light came on in my 2003 Honda Accord. The dealership told me that this was due to an open circuit in the driver's side airbag inflater as well as a the drivers side seat belt buckle switch. I had these fixed and the light came on again on my way home. The dealership checked again and could not find out what was wrong and sent me home after resetting the light. The light came on the next day that I drove my car and when I called the dealership wants to charge me for another diagnostic fee. American Honda said that there is no recall on my model, although there are recalls on other years for the same problem. P. S. The model number for the equipment is not in the dropdown menu, but on my paperwork it has 06788-sda-a82. Once I started writing 0 in the field it automatically picked something else beginning with a 0.

22 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Spoke with Honda customer care, who suggested taking to dealer.

23 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/23/2010

My 2002 Honda Accord v6 coupe has a problem with the safety restraint system. I brought it to dealer, and I was told that it was a seat belt buckle switch failure, and it would cost $200+ to fix, even though the owners manual states that all seat belt problems have a lifetime warranty. I refused to pay to have it fixed, and they sent me away, informing me that the srs system is shut down. This is a big safety concern for me, and I feel they should fix the problem. I have read online that there are many people with the same problem I have on their Accords. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you.

24 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

I have a 2000 Honda Accord. The "srs" light came on the dash and stays on whenever the ignition is on. I took it to the dealer and they told me it is a switch within the driver's side seat belt buckle. They told me the belt and the buckle are covered under the seat belt warranty but the switch is not covered and the diagnostic test is not covered either. The whole assembly is part of the safety system and should be covered along with the diagnostic test.

27 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/09/2007

In April 2001, I purchased new Honda Accord ex from its dealer, planethonda in union, NJ. The car had been sore for the last three years. The car was recalled because of faulty transmission. The faulty transmission affected the engine and brakes. Not only, Honda should have replaced the faulty transmission, but also the engine should have been replaced. The faulty transmission made the car run in the low gear, damaged the engine. My car engine is burning more motor oil and I have to add one quart of oil for every 700-800 miles. I also had to replace the brakes, rotor/drum,brake shoe pads every 6-8 months because of faulty transmission. My car has the side air bag and abs lights on since 30000 miles. I was advised by NHTSA to send the complaint to NHTSA. Please forward the copy of the complaint to the appropriate department, so that they can look into the matter. Thanks. . . . . . . Ashok kumar.

28 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

Srs light turned on spontaneously; Honda keeping diagnostic codes secret, so my local shop is unable to fix; could be simple seat belt switch, could be airbag failure; not with $150+ to check for simple seat belt switch. Solution is to make the codes accessible to the public instead of keeping them secret so customers can choose where to have the repairs done instead of forcing repairs at Honda dealership.

30 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/23/2005

My srs light is on at all times in my 2001 Honda Accord. I took it to a Honda dealership in June, 2005. I was told that when the srs light is on, my air bag system is inoperable and air bags will not deploy on impact. Dealership inspection found a code for seat belt buckle switch/sensor causing the srs light. The buckle set has been special ordered and has not arrived after one month. In the meantime, I drive around with my srs light on and no airbags. Why are there so many complaints about this same issue on the NHTSA website? does this issue need to be addressed as a possible recall? so many of the complaints regarding this same issue are with no resolution. So far I have no resolution. I did not buy a car with no air bags. I want to feel confident my air bags will do their job should I be in an accident. They have saved my life in the past. If you have this same issue, I encourage you to file a complaint.

31 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/06/2005

I took it back to the Honda dealership a second time and they said a switch in the seat belt needed to be replaced. In the mean time, the dealership stated that the air bags in my car are not working because of the srs light being on.

The defect apprears to disable the front passenger air bag.

34 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/20/2004

I am having the same problem as many other owners are with the srs indicator light staying on. It sounds like everyone is getting their alternators changed at their personal cost, but then the light turns back on after a few days and the problem is not fixed. This is dangerous as the airbags will not work properly whilst the light is on. This problem needs to be addressed.

35 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/10/2004

Srs light continues to stay on while driving. . The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the vehicle needed a new opds unit switch which is located under the passenger seat and controls the air bags. The dealer contacted the manufacturer to see if the part was covered and was told that only the srs unit and cable reels were covered. The consumer did not have the repairs made because she believes the manufacturer should be financially responsible.
