1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/25/2019

When removing the electronic parking brake, to begin driving, one or more brake pads get stuck to the rotor then is violently returned to the open position. This happens in weather below 40 degrees fahrenheit, after driving, then parking for mere minutes, even when the car is still running. Many sources this is due to the master cylinder not having enough pressure to relax the caliper. This is very hazardous under low speed and I have experienced extremely weak braking when in a parking lot.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/05/2019

Applying brakes gives a non-linear response that makes it difficult to brake smoothly and safely. Applying the brakes results in varying responses that appears not to brake and then suddenly grabs. I suspect that there is either air in the system or part failure of the brake booster or master cylinder. Dealer said that it is normal brake response for this model of vehicle even though the salesman and service tech felt the problem upon driving. Also had collision brake mitigation problem light go off on my way home from dealer.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2015 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

Had my 2015 Honda Accord ex-l in for service today, and asked them to check the brakes because the pedal was soft again. In the last year to try and correct the soft pedal I have replaced the pads and rotors, and a few months had the brakes bled. Dealership tells me they have seen issues with the master cylinder, lucky I had the extended warranty so it will only cost me the deductible but there is something wrong have master cylinder problems at 36000 miles.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

The vehicle does not always start when you pressed the start button and only clicks. This can be dangerous if the car stalls in a busy intersection or rail road crossing and the vehicle cannot be started. To start the vehicle (keyless w/fob), you have to press the brake and press the start button. It appears that the brake pedal pressure and the starting of the car may be part of the issue as we have noticed that the car will more likely start when the brake pedal is soft vs. Hard. Not sure if the issue is isolated to the start button, brake master cylinder, both or the electronics that interacts when these two. Any assistance that you may provide with this issue is appreciated. Thank you.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

Brakes do not stop smoothly, there is a dead spot in the brake pedal that takes extra pressure to get the car to stop. Makes the car stop suddenly when trying to brake smoothly. Dealer acknowledged the problem and replaced the master cylinder with no fix and now dealer says they neex to wait for american Honda to allow them to replace the brake booster that have been successful for others on Honda forums.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

Brake pedal is soft and spongy. Have had brake fluid and master cylinder replaced but air seems to be getting into hydraulic system. Have called attention to Honda service personnel of service bulletin 07_045 but srvice rep disclaim any problem. I am fearful of total brake failure and possible airbag explosive deployment!.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

We purchased our vehicle at honolulu, hi, Honda pfluger (now pacific Honda). With the proper maintenance, the vehicle has been performing satisfactorily until now. Only minor defects were noted, such as battery replacement within the 3-years or 36,000 miles warranty. On 01/08/15, we took our vehicle to the closest Honda dealer in austin, TX, because, for the last three weeks, when the vehicle has sat for a while, the breaks will not work when backing the peddle goes about halfway down and sticks, will not go back nor down, and the hand break had to be pulled up to stop the vehicle. In order to have the vehicle tested, we left our vehicle at howdy Honda. The next day, the maintenance consultant informed us that the break master cylinder was leaking into the booster, and that a complete replacement of such part would be necessary. The cost of the repair would be $946. 00, plus taxes, because the part was not covered by the vehicle’s warranty. On the Honda warranty booklet, the aforementioned part is not included in the list of non-covered parts (page 9); the malfunction has not been caused by the improper use of our car: we have never used it for business or unusual sport or other activities; the master cylinder is the original part installed by Honda; and no third-party technician has ever attempted to repair it. The defect in the master cylinder and booster is very unusual; almost any 2010 Honda Accord with 31,409 miles shows this kind of issue. Hence, we strongly believe that the master cylinder malfunction is a case of a part that is defective in material or workmanship under normal use. Furthermore, the above described part malfunction represents an enormous safety issue that could have caused an accident which potential personal, physical, and psychological damages against us and third parties. The car is inoperative in its current condition.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I've owned my 4-dr. , 6-cyl. Ex model since purchasing it from a Honda parts dept. Employee in Jan. , 2007 with 24k miles on the engine. It has performed generally very well until it developed a safety-related, brake system problem that has gotten progressively worse since it first occurred-- namely, that the brake pedal has become progressively soft when applied, and recently has to be applied strenuously all the way to the floor to get even a minimal stopping response. When the problem first occurred, I began regularly checking the brake fluid level in my master cylinder. Only occasionally did the cylinder require some minimal, additional brake fluid--akin to a normal maintenance amount. Keeping my fluid to a maximum-level has not resolved the problem. This past March (2015), I requested my well-rated, independent mechanic to diagnose the problem. He first identified the same 3 earlier Honda service bulletins that I had (going all the way back to 2007) that addressed this brake problem, wherein Honda was mostly implicating a faulty abs (control) module as the cause of the problem (note: I've never received a safety recall svc. Bulletin from Honda for this problem). My mechanic estimated that replacing my abs module would cost over $2000, but that even then there would be no guarantee that my problem would be resolved. So, until I could decide what action to take, I had him do a front brake job to "buy" whatever extra stopping-power I could . . . Which turned out to be minimal-to-none! not only does my problem remain, but it is getting rapidly worse . . . To the point that I'm reluctant make long, highway-speed trips, and am driving super-defensively so as to be able to stop the car in any kind of risky situation. I plan to appeal to the Honda America hierarchy, starting with my local dealership.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving, the brakes failed to engage. The failure occurred several times. The contact was able to avoid a crash twice by turning the vehicle off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer flushed the brake system and replaced the master cylinder; however, the failure was not corrected and the brakes failed to engage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,146. The current mileage was 52,562.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

I am fortunate to be alive as my brakes were not working and I was coming off a ramp but driving in the speed limit. . . That is the key. There was nothing wrong with the brakes-but the "brake booster and master cylinder was leaking"a reliable mechanic did not detect anything-but I had the car towed to the dealership even though the brakes were now working fine. The mechanic at the first place said nothing was detected-there were no signs visual or electronic ( on the dashboard)of anything wrong. However the dealership said the master cylinder was leaking and damaged the brake booster. How was I to have known? there was no indication of this on the dash and no sign of anything. I am lucky to be alive because of the way I handled this situation. They are charging me a pretty penny and I feel I have a lemon. This is a product defect and could have killed many people. This is the first time but it could have been the last time as the car could have been totaled along with me. Is this how one finds out about issues with brake boosters? I want my money back or I want a new car. I am very very uncomfortable driving this car now.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

After investing $900 in non-wear brake component replacement since 2007 (calipers, rotors), the car began to require ever-increasing pedal effort to slow & stop. Dealer replaced brake fluid per maintenance schedule, restoring previous performance. 07november2011, pedal effort problem returned, worse than ever. $390 to replace master cylinder and problem was not corrected. 12dec2011 (84,000miles), $590 was "my half" (Honda split cost with me) to replace abs modulator- a known problem with this model According to the dealer. This is an otherwise wonderful car but has enough siblings on the road to present a credible threat to public safety. Additionally, the @$1900 I've spent so far on brake system hardware does not include regular wear items (pads, fluid, misc) which are normal replacement cost items. I believe Honda should recall this model, inspect/replace brake components to ensure public safety, and reimburse owners who have already done the right thing in replacing defective parts that should not have ever been on the road in the first place.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the front brake master cylinder was leaking fuel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that he would replace the master cylinder at the owners expense. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000.

14 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

Ever since I purchased my 2008 Accord, I had noticed a 'squealing' sound upon acceleration, that seemed to be coming from the rear wheels. It was faint at first, and would come and go, so I didn't think anything of it, especially since my vehicle was new. Visually, though, I thought my rear wheels had a 'rusty' appearance on the inside of the wheel well. As time went on, the noise became more consistent, and was audible during deceleration, too. Not to mention, I began to hear a 'grinding' sound. I took my vehicle into the dealer, with the assumption that whatever the cause, my extended warranty would be useful, if there were any needed repairs. The dealer told me that I had worn down the brake pads so badly that the pads, rotors, and calipers needed replacement. In addition, the master cylinder and piston were damaged (due to the brake situation), so that needed replacement too. I asked why the brakes would even need replacement at such a low mileage, in the first place, especially since almost all of my miles are highway miles, and they told me that it was very common, and since I was 'negligent' the cost would not be covered under the warranty, and, therefore, I would be charged $1,667. 00 for the repairs. My vehicle is in their shop right now, as of course, they don't even have the parts to fix it, and the vehicle "is too dangerous to drive. " maybe I should have been more proactive and went with my gut when I thought the 'squealing' sound was strange, but I just figured a brand new car wouldn't have any problems. Unfortunately for me, I was completely wrong!.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

2003 Honda Accord ex 4 door sedan . I have had a soft, touchy brake pedal since the car reached 55,000 miles. Before that it was perfect, rock solid. I took it to the Honda dealership and the service advisor told me that they couldn't find anything wrong but they would replace the brake master cylinder and the abs electronic modulator under my warranty. After few days the problem did not improve. The brake pedal went 1/2 way down easily and then the disc brakes just locked up all of a sudden. The driver had no real control over the braking actiion. I returned to the dealer and they called Honda repair and talked to a tech. He said that a soft, touchy pedal was normal on these cars. I told them that up to 55,000 miles the brakes were perfect. What had happened? they did not know. So I had them replace all my pads and turned all rotors. I then had them bleed the brakes. The stopping power did increase but the soft, touchy brake pedal remained. After going back to the dealer the 3rd time to complain, they finally just told me that they could not find anything wrong with my brakes and therefore could not help me. So I went to another dealer and had them rebleed my brakes just to be sure that there was no air in the system. After they did that my brake pedal firmed up a little bit. But after 2-3 days the soft, touchy pedal returned. No one at Honda could give me any explanation. Now I am reading about defects allowing air into the braking system from the abs modulator and I am thinking now that it is the problem. It would explain why my brake pedal was fine for about 5 years and then all of a sudden the brake pedal problem appeared. I also drove a new 2010 Accord ex 4 door to compare the brakes. The new Honda had a very firm, solid brake pedal. So I went back to the service department and told them that I wanted them to fix my brakes so that they felt like the 2010 Accord's brakes. I was told by the service advisor that everything was fine and that it was my imagination.

16 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/12/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. While depressing the brake pedal in an attempt to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, the brakes exhibited signs of failure and fell into the floor board. The brake pedal did not return to the idle position. The dealer performed a diagnostic test and stated that the brake master cylinder was damaged. The vehicle was repaired. One month later, the vehicle exhibited the exact same failure. The failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 60,000. The VIN was not available.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Accord. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, while driving approximately 50 mph, the brakes locked when the pedal was depressed. The vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. The first time, they replaced the master cylinder, 4 rotors, and 4 brake pads. The second time, they replaced the brake booster, 4 pads, and 4 rotors. The third time, the dealer stated that they could not duplicate the failure. They declared that the vehicle was operating normally. The current mileage was 5,000 and failure mileage was 800.

18 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/14/2006

2001 Honda Accord v6 worst of 4 Honda's I have owned. Replaced all electrical under drivers seat, replaced brake sensor 3 times - allows gearshift to release. Rear main seal leak, transmission replaced, door lock motors replaced, led readout on odometer won't show one number, replaced the master cylinder. Car has not been in accident and had to have casters on front frame adjusted so it wouldn't chew up the tires. Most of this happened under warranty except for the rear main seal. This should have been a jag.

19 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/08/2004

I am having recurring brake problems with my 2003 Accord ex. All problems relate to a soft pedal or rather having the pedal to the floor prior to the car stopping. The first instance I took the car back to the dealer where they said there was a defective master brake cylinder. This seem to correct the problem but in a couple of months the car developed the same problem. I returned it to the dealer where they said there was air in the line. This seemed to fix the problems but after 3 months I had to take car back and have now been told that they are going to replace the master brake cylinder one more time. This is the third strike in the lemon law. If the brakes go soft again then the lemon law takes effect.

20 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/10/2004

While applying the brake pedal brakes failed. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the master cylinder needed to be replaced, and replaced it. However, the problem recurred.

21 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/05/2004

I purchased my new 2003 Honda Accord lx coupe in Apr 2003. In Dec 2003, I took my car in for an oil change and was told that I needed to leave my car there because of the brakes. They replaced the master cylinder. Less than 4 months later, while in rush hour traffic, the brakes failed as my foot nearly went completely to the floor. I shifted the gears down and was able to stop the car that way, no accident. I took my car back to the dealership service dept (it was a Thursday). The next day they called me and said they couldn't find anything wrong. I insisted that something was wrong. When I went to pick up the car, I was told by the service repair person that the mechanic decided to probe further due to my insistance and he subsequently found air bubbles in the brake fluid. They bled my brakes. That following Monday, something else went wrong. At the time I believed the problem to be the brakes, but now I am not so sure. While pulling into a parking space at my apartment, it felt as though the brakes slipped. My foot was on the brake pedal, but it did not stop; it almost seemed as though the car sped up a little, while my foot went to the floor. In a panic, I took my foot off the brake and pressed it again. I heard the tires squeal, but by that point it was too late. I ended up hitting a pole. State farm had my car evaluated to determine if there was a problem with the brakes that could have caused the accident. I took it to the same dealership shop, but only under the condition that the state farm inspector check the car with them. Thirty minutes into the inspection the state farm inspector left and my car was subsequently left for approx 1-1/2 hours soley with the dealership . At the end of the 2-hour inspection, I was told no problems with my brakes. I now drive my car fearfully, hoping that nothing else will go wrong.

22 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. While driving 30 mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard when depressed and the vehicle pulled to the right. The contact stated that the abs engaged. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. He felt that the bypass valve on the abs modulator caused the failure. The dealer re-inspected the vehicle and replaced the abs modulator. Approximately two years later, the failure recurred. As of August 7, 2007, the dealer has not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 57,500. Updated 01-15-08. The consumer stated 2 abs modulators have been replaced and 2 master cylinders replaced by the dealer. The failure started with a soft brake pedal and over time it became worse. When the problem occurred, the vehicle would pull hard to one side and/or the abs modulator would activate when braking power was established. Updated 12/12/07.

23 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/02/2004

I am the original owner of a 1999 Honda Accord (purchased new) with 57,400 miles. While traveling down hill in wet but not rainy conditions, my brakes failed. The pedal went all the way to the floor & I lost all braking power. I was not able to pump the brakes back up and there were no brake indicator or warning lights that came on. It was not an abs activated system because the pedal simply fell to the floor. After the car sat for approx. 30 minutes, full braking power returned. There was also a burning smell, with a foul odor. When I took the car to an independent shop, no problem could be found. I was told it was a one-time occurrance. I then took the car to a Honda dealer (this is the 5th Honda I have owned & I have never experienced this problem) the dealer gave two reasons for loss of brakes/pedal to the floor: loss of brake fluid (mine was fine) or a problem with the internal seal in the master cylinder. The dealer replaced my master cylinder and bled the whole system. The car has rather low mileage & has been regularly serviced. My child & his friend were in the car with me when the brakes failed. There was no crash as I used the e-brake and was able to come to a slow stop (it took approx. 1block) and I was only traveling approx. 30 mph.

24 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/19/2003

The brake light came on (247 miles on the odometer, brand new car) and as I was driving to the dealership after consulting with them on the phone, the brakes completely gave out. Problem was "fixed", now the brake light is on again at 817 miles.

25 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/01/2003

There is a popping noise that occurs once upon acceleration from a dead stop and while braking to come to a dead stop. I have taken the car in twice to correct this problem without any luck. First time Honda replaced the master cylinder and the second time they replaced the calipers.

26 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/10/2002

2001 Honda Accord lx v6 with abs. Brake went bad at about 8500miles, master cylinder was replace by matt castrucci Honda covered by warranty. The brake failed again at 20000 miles 12/02. There was almost no brake at highway speed. And needed triple the distance to stop the car at red light. Again, it was checked and I was told that the brake master cylinder and abs margulater had gone bad. It was fixed by local matt castrucci Honda (937-439-7470) under warranty. Who knows if it is really fixed or not. I bought the car paid thousands extra for safety, now I am a "test driver" of Honda. Totally disapointed.

27 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/18/2002

Initially my father borrowed this car and claimed the brakes were not working properly and he had difficulty driving the car. I did not believe him as I had not had any problems. Then on 7/20/02 when I applied the brake the car did not stop and I went through a red light and was unable to stop the car when I wanted to make a turn. I took the car to Honda and they replaced the master cylinder. This happened again on 8/12/02 and the car was taken back and Honda claimed there was air in the brake lines which they claimed to fix. On 8/26 the brakes totally failed on the highway and I refused to drive the car. They picked up the car on a flat bed and vacuumed the brake lines. The brakes are still spongy and there is long play in the brake pedal. When the brakes engage they do not engage totally. Sometimes the brakes engage and then disengage totally. I have seen the Honda rep who says there is nothing wrong with the brakes and that it is my driving. I refuse to drive the car and traded cars with my husband. Yesterday 10/20/02 my husband went through a stop sign when the brakes did not engage. We are terrorized to drive this car as we feel we may kill someone or ourselves. Dt.

28 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/26/2001

I was going down hill on a four lane highway in town and gave a signal to turn right onto a street. I put the brake on and as I was turning onto the street the brake pedal went to the floor. A truck was coming the opposite direction when I turne the corner and I turned left into some bushes and rocks to miss it. The police officer and the wrecker driver tried the brakes and said the brakes were out. I then had the car towed to the dealer to have repaired under warrenty and the service mangager said he could not find a problem. I picked the car up and had my brother in law drive the car home. The brake pedal went down on him before he got the car home. My son is an ase certified mechanic and repaired the brakes. He said the wheel had not been off the vehicle as the brake drums were still rusted onto the rear axle. He adjusted the rear brakes, checked the front brake pads and installed a new master cylinder. The brakes seem to be working fine now. It cost my insurance company $4100. 00 to repair the body damage to the car. I think this should have been covered under warrenty. Your help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
