8 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2017 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

On or about 6/10/19 while driving to work I noticed a noise coming from the rear of my car. The sound was like screeching nails on a chalkboard when the car is in motion at any speed without the brake pedal depressed. The sound would go away when I depressed the brake pedal. After I picked up my car on 6/15/19 from service, with only 18,119 miles, I was informed by my local Honda dealer that all the brake pads had seized and all brake caliper pins had frozen. The car has only been subject to normal driving. This is Honda case # 09629449.

The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. Ap.

11 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2015 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/07/2018

Faulty brake calipers: my 2015 Accord 4dr with 42k miles was recently at the Honda dealer here in greenwich, CT. The service department reported that the rear brakes were "almost metal on metal" and needed to be replaced. I reminded the service department that rear brakes should never wear our before front brakes. They replied that this is "normal in newer cars". I asked to retain the parts for examination. No surprise that the pads are worn abnormally. Only one of the four rear pads needed to be replaced (see photo), clearly indicating a sticking caliper. I wanted to notify NHTSA as this may be a safely concern, and not just poor customer service.

12 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2015 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/07/2018

Rear brake wear- 2015 Accord 4dr. We needed to have the car serviced at 42k miles because the original battery died. During inspection we were told that the rear brakes were "almost metal on metal". Service manager lied and told my wife that this was "normal for newer cars". Brake wear is generally 70/30 front to rear, never rear brakes first. Upon further inspection, only 1 out of the 4 rear pads was worn down to 2mm, and the other 3 were at least 4mm. This clearly indicating a mechanical problem or frozen caliper. Very disappointed in my dealer and Honda.

13 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2017 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Brake caliper retaining clips appear to be incorrectly installed or poorly designed. This has a trail of problems compiling at a quick pace. The brake pads don't travel freely even with grease. The outside brake pads will wear out approximately 1-2 millimeters before the inside brake pads wear down to the squealer (warning noise to let you know brake pad replacement is needed). The other pads will grind the outer surface of the rotars. Brake pads will not retract bake to normal position and constant friction causes excessive heat which is carried out through the caliper pistons, wheel hub/bearings, wheels, significant motor and transmission damage being over worked. Gas mileage is constantly in high teens. Rarely have I ever hit over 25mpg regardless of city driving out highway driving. First sign of brake pad failure@1st 8,000 miles on vehicle. Brake fluid is already burnt or drk brwnish color at 40,000 miles. This car generates more than questionable heat from front wheels after 10mins of parking lot driving. This appears as if the vehicle is being driving hard as if I am abusing the 2. 4l 4cyl engine powering a cvt transmission.

14 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

Inboard passenger rear brake pad jammed and prematurely worn; driver side rear brake pads ok. Calipers ok. . Dealer had to replace both rear brake sets and resurface the rotors at my expense. Dealer blamed "corrosion"; I blame a Honda design defect in their braking system.

16 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/02/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a knocking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and when depressing the brake pedal the contact noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact pulled into the driveway and noticed that the caliper was rubbing together. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was not available. Aw.

17 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

2009 Honda Accord. Consumer writes in regards to malfunctioning caliper piston.

18 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

Premature brake wear. Replaced front rotors and front pads last year due to vibration along with rear pads. Around June 2015 with 55,000 miles on car. Then the rear caliper seized up on the passenger side in March 2016, 70245 miles. Rear rotors resurfaced and pads replaced. Now I just had service done because rear driver side caliper seized up. They also did front rotors and pads due to excessive wear. Mileage 79000.

19 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/11/2016

Last week I heard a rubbing/scraping noise coming from the right rear of my 2009 Honda Accord. Today I took it to the dealers and had to have the right rear caliper replaced, new brake pads and new rotors. This vehicle is well taken care of and is garage kept. I do not understand why I needed new brakes and rotors as my car has approximately 22,000 miles on it. I am extremely upset by this.

20 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

I purchased this Honda Accord from automaxx of summerville in good faith from dealer stating that vehicle passed all their inspections (including brake system). I found out within 2 weeks later by taking it to a Honda dealership, that the brakes, brake lines, caliper, exhaust system are all affected by severe, damaging rust. During inspection, inclusive were sticking caliper. I had front brakes replaced; but due to rust, technician had to bam & force brakes lose. I was informed of the risks with severe rusting causing parts to brake and fail. New brakes would not install properly after old, seated brakes came off. When vehicle is in motion and stopping, the brake system makes noise, and seems like something coming apart due to the insecure fitting of brakes/rotors/calipers, which all have a great build up of rust. This vehicle was purchased approximately 1 month ago in these conditions. It should be illegal to sell such vehicles that pose safety risk in brake system. Honda inspection suggested that rust was so severe that car could have possibly been damaged by salt water/snow/ice or flood. Car originated from up north. Re-sale should not be allowed.

21 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

The 2008 Honda Accord models were subject to a class action lawsuit in 2010. The suit stated that rear brake pads on the vehicle wear prematurely. The problem with the lawsuit is that at that time most owners of the vehicles did not know or encounter a problem with the brake pads. Further, the pads are wearing prematurely which in most cases will cause a need for the rotors to be replaced. Thus the expense to the owner is higher. In some instances the owner is force to purchase new calipers which increase the cost even more. The vehicles are outfitted with an electronic braking distribution (ebd) system which might be the cause of the overall issue. When the 2008 Honda Accord models were built, Honda installed smaller brake pads on the vehicles. The class action lawsuit covered a fraction of the cost to owners. As time goes by, more and more owners are now faced with much higher costs to replace all the rear braking componenets. I myself spent over $800. 00 in April, 2014 to have new brake pads, calipers and rotors installed on my vehicle. That service was to replace the original equipment on the vehicle. I need to have the same braking components replaced in March, 2016 at a cost of over $800. 00. The brake components should not need to be replaced after 23 months. The mileage between repairs was 10,000 miles. Honda needs to be held accountable for poor quality for the ebd systems in the vehicles.

22 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2012 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/14/2015

Frozen driver side rear caliper.

23 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/12/2015

From the beginning upon taking delivery of the vehicle, the rear brake calipers were not releasing properly. We noticed a burning smell once after driving, but no warning lights were on. We also noticed the emergency brake was not always releasing, as per the warning light. At a routine oil service it was determined that right rear caliper was not full disengaging. The entire rear brake assembly had to be cleaned and adjusted, the rear brake pads and rotors had to be replaced. Both rear calipers had to be replaced. In the past, our vehicles have gone 90,000 miles before replacing only the pads, and then only the front. To replace an entire rear bake assembly indicates some sort of defect or engineering problem.

24 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

On 3/18/15 I took our 2010 Honda Accord with 28,037 miles to suburban Honda in farmington hills,mi for a oil change, the service manager notified me that the driver side rear pads have worn out to the point of wearing out the rotor beyond turning to repair, and I need a new caliper that as we know must be replaced in pairs. His price for repairs was $1027. 60 + tax =$1089. 26 I took the vehicle to my neighborhood auto repair facility and had all new pads, rotors and calipers replaced for $650. 04 this costly expense at this low mileage of a brand new vehicle is completely unacceptable, how many other trusting customers bought this vehicle and had the same or similar rear brake fail as well. At the least Honda should reimburse us for all of the repairs. At 28,049 miles both front tires had to be replaced do to premature ware.

25 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

- sudden scrapping noise from rear of vehicle while stopping for a traffic light. - slowly drove vehicle to local specialized brake auto repair facility. - rear right brake caliper failure which quickly wore down pads and rotors. - left rear was also beyond limts. - corrective action - replaced both left and right rear brake pads, shims, rotors, calipers and brake fluid. - front brakes fine. - understand that there were isuess with both 2008 and 2009 Honda rear brakes, subject 2010 vehicle was purchased new in October, 2009.

26 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

Car was bought 2 years old, breaks started to make a scratching noise in 2014 and got progressively worse. We brought it to the Honda dealer where we bought the car, they sucked us in and made us pay over $1,000 for new breaks, rotors, calipers etc. April 2016 the car was started one morning, immediately the noise I heard in 2014 I heard again but much worse. The noise happened when the car was idling. We brought the car to a local mechanic, this mechanic told me I needed new breaks, rotors, calipers etc. The same problem that I had in 2014. The dealer knew about these Honda's having a break issue, wondering why my dealer did not mention this.

27 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I have had to change my rotors brakes and calipers 4 times since last August. I just changed the rotors and brakes for the 3rd about 3 months ago and they are grinding again. I went out for lunch and when I get back to work I hear a grinding. I get to work and look and its on the rotor. This is ridiculous, I do not know what else to do. Mind you in October on a road trip the caliper malfunctioned and I had to drive with the brake clamped down on the rotor. Cost me $850 to fix! this is ridiculous.

28 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

Honda has a rear brake problem with this car. Replacing the pads does not correct this problem. In my case the rear calipers stuck. The wheel was too hot to touch. . . The wheel. . . This after only 8 miles to home from work. Honda went to a ceramic rear pad which only added heat to a rear brake system that does not fit that car. . . . The next problem will be rear hub assemblies failing because of over heating. . . I believe had I driven 20 plus miles this problem would have started a fire. . Just below the gas filler cap . . . Not good. . . Honda has a problem and needs to step up on this one.

29 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

Honda has a real problem here. . . They tried to fix it with ceramic brake pads. . What that did is make more heat for a undersized brake system. In my case this heat caused the rear calipers to to stick. In as little as 10 miles I could not touch the wheel. . If I had driven another 15+ miles I believe fire would have started. . Right below the gas fill cap. . . Not good. . . So not only are my rear calipers cooked, rotors warped, brake pads shot, brake fluid boiled. . . The rear hub and bearing assembly has had grease cooked out of it and makes noise. . . This problem goes way past brake pads. . .

30 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

I had tires rotated at 36k miles and firestone advised me of irregular wear on my right rear brakes. The brake pad rubs constantly based on a caliper and rotor malfunction. I verified recalls pertaining to my Honda and found no relevant information; however, it appears there is a problematic issue with premature and irregular wear. Honda should be held accountable for faulty brake components leading to unwarranted safety vulnerabilities and excessive consumer expenses.

31 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/25/2013

Rear brake pads wear down fast, they require a change at least twice before the front brake pads wear down. Pads show uneven wear, it maybe a caliper defect.

32 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

1. I believe the rear brake system on 2010 Accord has a design flaw that causes the inboard rear brake pads to wear unevenly and to wear faster than the outboard pads. 2. The rear brake pads have had to be replaced twice since I purchased this vehicle new, on October 7, 2009: the first replacement was on September 2, 2011 at 36,365 miles and the second replacement was on March 12, 2013 at 67,699 miles. 3. March 12, 2013 pad replacement. The inboard pads on both sides are worn down far more than the outboard pads. Also, the inboard pads are worn unevenly: one of the inboard pads has 2 mm left on the end near the break pad wear indicator & 3 mm left on the other end, the other inboard pad has 1 mm left on the end near the break pad wear indicator & 2 mm of pad left on the other end. The outboard pads are worn evenly and both have 5-6 mm of pad remaining. 4. This is just not right! both inboard and outboard should wear evenly and at the same rate and give more than 31,000 – 36,000 miles of useful service. 5. I believe there is a design flaw with the caliper and/or the caliper mechanism and the embedded parking brake mechanism. Perhaps the design of the parking brake mechanism sometimes allows it to not release properly? my fear is that this design flaw will cause the rear brakes to malfunction while driving. 6. Genuine Honda parts were installed with both rear brake pad replacements and the front brake pad replacement. This vehicle has a normal mix of highway and town driving and very little stop-n-go city driving. Neither my wife nor I “ride” the brakes. I believe “normal” wear, considering our driving habits, for the rear brakes is 50,000-60,000 miles.

33 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

I recently had purchased a 2007 Honda Accord se from the Honda dealer on 12/20/2012. March of 2013 I wasf having some problems with my brakes, so I thought. I took it to the Honda dealer. They stated the caliper was sticking on the left rear side and that was the sound that I was hearing. So I had to have my caliper replaced and my brakes. So it is now August 2013, the same caliper is sticking again. But of course it is out of warranty to have it replaced again. . There has to be something wrong with this picture for the same exact problem in a little more a years time.

34 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

In 2012 (25kmi - two year old vehicle) required brake pad replacement. 2015 (55k mi required replacement of rear brake pads, rotors. It was taken in for excessive heat and non-stop squeaking. Two months later, again, excessive heat (too hot to touch rim). Took back to repair shop and they had to replace calipers.

35 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

Premature failure of rear brake pads and rotors @40k miles. Just outside limits of Honda brake settlement. Rear brakes failed again at 100k with pads, rotors, and 1 caliper needing replacement.
