1 Brakes Failed problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

The 2018 Accords have a system called "brake hold" which is intended to engage the braking system while a vehicle is stopped at, say, a stop-light. The intent seems to be to allow the driver to have their foot on the gas, instead of the brake pedal. The brake hold system frequently has an issue where it allows the vehicle to creep. This, generally, seems to happen in colder temperatures. Another, pattern of behavior is when the vehicle has been brought to a slow roll, then stopped (using the brake pedal) and as soon as the brake pedal is release, the brake hold system fails to hold the vehicle in the stopped position. After a significant delay, the brake system is engaged, but the vehicles had, at that point, lurched forward several inches, if not over a foot. This indicates (just as with the collision mitigation system delays, discussed in other complaints) that there is a significant issue with the timing of the control system utilized in the brake hold, the sensor(s) or both, where the system fails to detect the conditions in real time and reacts in a delayed manner. Again, as with other issues on the later Honda models, Honda has failed to perform comprehensive troubleshooting of the issue (even after me taking the vehicle to the dealer as indicated by Honda. This is a complaint for a separately occurring instance.

7 Brakes Failed problem of the 2017 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/30/2020

The brakes failed while driving. While driving as a slow speed (fortunately) I applied the brakes and all the dash faults came on and the braked failed to work. I had to use the e-brake to stop. I turned the car off, back on, the faults cleared and the brakes work. This could become a deadly crash if it occurs at high speed and the need to stop abruptly happens.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

I purchased brand new my 2018 Honda Accord sport Dec 28 2017 I have 1450 miles currently on the car and the brake pressure has been lost. When applying breaks at highway speed its not as noticeable but around town at 45mph when applying the breaks there is dead space then full brake kicks in which makes others think you are brake checking them. When going to the forums and to this website I saw other complaining about the brake booster failures. I went to the dealership. They advised yes the vehicle has a failed brake booster and is on a national back order. I am currently driving my new car with a failed booster waiting on Honda to fix it. I hope this is safe that that my brand new car isn't being damaged waiting for this part.

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

Vehicle exhibited electronic brake booster failure after less than 100 miles of driving. The brake pedal has a hard "step" in it, and grabs very suddenly once the step is overcome. This makes smooth braking, especially when coming to a stop, nearly impossible. The suggested fix is to replace the electronic brake booster (01469-tva-a24). The new brake booster should return the brake pedal to normal, and restore a smooth linear brake. This is a known safety issue with the 2018 Accord as the part (01469-tva-a24) is on national backorder. This should be a recall and my vehicle will spend over 2 weeks in the shop!!!.

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/19/2015

While parking my 2007 Honda Accord in a residential area, I put it into reverse with my foot on the brake. The car suddenly accelerated on its own, and the brakes failed, causing the vehicle to crash into a parked car with enough force to move it about 3 feet, pushing it up over the curb and onto the sidewalk. A second parked vehicle was also damaged. With my foot still on the brake, I shifted into drive, and the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward at an alarming rate of speed for about one/tenth mile, where I was finally able to get the car to stop. The rear damage on my car was so extensive that the car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. A police report was filed. Mileage on the vehicle was approximately 33,300 miles. I had kept this car regularly maintained. Because of this very serious safety issue, I will never purchase another Honda.

16 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/30/2015

My son was driving my 2007 Honda Accord se on July 30, 2015. He crossed the parking lot of a college campus. As he was turning into another parking section the brakes failed and the power steering locked and failed and lost control hitting a pole. I'm devastated that something like this would happen. I've messaged Honda with this information along with pictures. I've submitted the VIN, mileage, and pictures as they requested. I'm hoping Honda looks into this matter. I've always maintained my car and there is no reason for multiple failures. I'm looking for my car to be replaced.

17 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

I was driving on a high way and all of the sudden a light came on that said "power system fail" and I lost the ability to use the accelerator. I stayed calm because there were cars all around me and I began to coast and use momentum to drift to the shoulder of the highway. Then a second light came on and said 'brake system power fail". I tapped the break and it seemed to work but I continued to coast down the shoulder of the highway until I ran out of momentum. I then turned my brand new Honda Accord exl hybrid off and restarted the car. The lights remained on but the accelorator was working so I drove the car to the closest service area on the highway. I then called Honda roadside who told me to turn the vehicle off and wait for a tow truck. He said that I must have broken a belt. Why he said or thought that he could diagnose the problem from a call center I'm not sure. It was over 100 degrees so I did not listen to the man from Honda because it was too hot and not safe for me to sit in the vehicle without air. I waited for a tow truck which cost me $250 even though its a brand new car and I have Honda roadside assistance. My husband came and met me where the tow left me. He drove the vehicle to our dealership. The dealership told us that they have no record of this ever happening and the computer does not show that anything happened. It was so scary and dangerous and I could have been killed. They say that they can't diagnose the problem because it seems like nothing is wrong. They even asked me if I accidentally turned the car off while driving?!?!?! that isn't possible!!!! I just found the exact same complaint from another Honda driver on here which also shows that this has happened before and something is wrong. As a woman who chose this car because it is supposed to be so reliable and safe I am so upset. I do not believe that my vehicle is safe.

The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the failure was due to a faulty wire harness. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000.

19 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

For a week the lights on the dashboard showed that there was a problem with the abs brakes & traction device flashing and so we took it in to Honda to have them find out why. The first time it was a Sunday afternoon (may 31th) and the fellow said it was a computer glitz and he reset the computer. In less than 1 day the lights appeared again, so we made an appointment for that Wednesday June 3rd to have it looked at; when we got there they said it would take 2-3 hours to check all the codes, etc. We were not told this when we made the appointment, so we did not have the time that day. We asked the man that talked to us (it was mike or doug) would it be dangerous to drive it and he said "no. " . . . . Just computer problems. So the very next day as I was driving to work in my only 4 month old car and was on this 2 lane road that is by all info can be dangerous. I was in a straight way (which is a blessing) and pressed on the brake to slow down the car and it pulled to the right and the car slammed against a 2 foot asfault curb causing the front right tire to blow and sending my car into oncoming traffic. Thank the lord no cars were coming, but I had a horrible time stopping the car and bringing it into a right lane. Then I had to drive about 1/2 mile to where I could pull over safely (I was driving on the rim). We knew right away that something was wrong with the car, and told this to our insurance when we called in the claim. The lights were still flashing after it was repaired! the auto body man then took the car to Honda to have it checked, and they found out that the wheel-baring on the wheel was put in backwards!! this caused the brakes to fail! they made me take back the same car with no other choice (it is a lease). I just wanted a new car that I was not concerned to drive. Liberty mutual (our company) is going on recovery; they say get a lawyer!.

21 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

It was a cold winter morning, 9 degrees to be exact. I'm in the car with my 2yr old daughter. I pull out of the parking spot, I make it 50 feet and the brakes begin to fail. Im pumping the brake to slow down due to a car in the middle of the road at a stand still. I hit the brakes a second and third time I glimpse down wondering why is the car not slowing down or stopping I continue stomping onto the brake. I started to scream in realization that this is happening. I collide into the back of the car that was at a stand still. The worst experience of my life. I was not even a full 2 blocks away from my home I could not comprehend how my brakes just failed after I repeatedly pressed down on them. Please investigate this who knows how many people experienced this. I crossed an intersection when this happened, thank god I had the green light and there was no one crossing. The 2 people in the car I collided into were also fine.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Had to replace rear brakes on new 2010 Honda Accord. This seems very premature for a new car. We are disappointed our car is not covered by the earlier class action, even though it is a 2010. Honda should not be allowed to sell cars if rear brakes fail at 20,000+ miles.

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/06/2012

Getting off interstate 95 (CT), slowing down for stop sign, brakes failed. Shifted to park, pulled emergency brake, foot still on brakes to no avail. Bump car in front of me before stopping. No warning lights whatsoever. Called 911 and reported accident. Drove car the next day to nearest Honda dealer in westport, CT. Explained accident to service technician. Was informed that they found air entering abs modulator. They indicated that it was unsafe to drive. Had to order part and repair was completed on may 9th. Requested original service manager (mahwah Honda, NJ) of problem and asked to speak to a Honda regional representative to discuss as to why no warning lights and may be caused by a defective modulator. As of today, have not received any feedback after numerous emails and telephone calls to mahwah Honda. Seems like Honda do not want hear about these problems. I requested and received the modulator that was originally in the car. Someone will get hurt if Honda do not act on this problem. Honda forums shows many 2007 Accord brake problems. Please help. Thank you.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

This Honda Accord has less than 20k miles and the rotors have been turned already. The technician at carey paul Honda in snellville, GA, said the rotors were warped. This is premature brake wear. At the time of this service, the back brakes had 10% wear; the front, 30% wear. I am concerned that there will be metal fatigue with this obvious defect which may cause the brakes to fail.

29 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

The the brake has failed four times starting at about 22 month old. When the brake pedal was pressed down, the wheels kept running. First time, I was exiting from highway. The road was slightly slippery. The brake worked fine initially but stopped working in the middle of the curve. The car zigzagged for three times before reaching the straight road. The second time was on December 14, 2012 after snowing for about 20 minutes. As I was switching to the left turn lane, the traffic light turned yellow, the brake worked initially so I was able to slow down. However, as I was approaching the car in front of me, the brake failed again and the car continue to cruise forward even though I was applying the brakes firmly. At the end, I had to turn the car towards curb on my left side and the impact of hitting the curb finally stopped the car. I took my car back to the dealer for repairs on the same day. The dealer checked the bake and didn't find any problem. The problem occurred again twice in the morning of February 26, 2014 when my husband was driving my son to middle school on slippery road. The first time, there was a slight turn to the left and a small downward slope, and applying the brakes could not stop the car even though the car was moving at around 10 mph. The second time was near an elementary school. When he wanted to stop at a stop sign, on a straight road without an incline, the car pulsated (assuming abs started) but did not stop and did not even slow down. I took the car back to the dealer again. However, they were not able to identify and fix the problem.

35 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

I bought a new 2008 Honda Accord in August 2008. I took it in to be serviced today for routine maintenance to the cramer Honda of venice. My Accord has 29,000 miles. I was told by ron, in the service department, that I had to replace my rear brakes immediately. They are not covered under warranty or recall. I was told my brakes were really, really, bad. I was told Honda Accord has defective rear brakes. Honda is aware of this problem but is not correcting it under warranty or recall because it has a class action lawsuit filed against them. I was told driving with these brakes could be deadly. They advised me I have to pay to have my brakes be replaced immediately. I have never had to replace brakes at 29, 000 miles. Honda told me the Accord brakes are defective. Honda knows there is a risk with these brakes and have failed to correct such a problem. I have not been notified by Honda of such danger. Why won't Honda recall/replace their defective brakes when the risk of not doing so is deadly.
