Premature rear brake failure I purchased a new 2008 Honda Accord v6 automatic transmission coupe on 8/2/08. I had the car serviced on 4/8/10 to change the oil, rotate tires, and a brake inspection. On this date, the car has 17,420 miles on it. The dealer informed me that the rear brakes had reached their service limit and had to be replaced immediately. The dealer reported that the front brakes did not need replacing and had "9. 0mm to sensor" remaining. The total cost of rear brake replacement after a 15% parts and labor discount was applied was $229. 46. I was shocked because I have never driven the car in a manner that would warrant premature brake failure. On my previous 1999 Honda Accord coupe, I did not have to replace the brakes until 65k miles. The dealer explained that Honda is aware of the problem and that Honda had issued a technical service bulletin for the rear brakes. I contacted Honda customer service by calling 1-800-999-1009 and was told that no technical service bulletin has been issued for rear brake problems. I was given a reference number and was advised that a Honda representative would be in contact with me within 2 business days. By chance, I found an article in u. S. News and reports dated April 8, 2010 "Honda settles lawsuit over Accord brakes. " the article states that the brakes of 750k late models of Accord and Acura tsx are wearing out twice as fast as they should. The article also states that the NHTSA has received 350 owner complaints to date. There is no mention that the root cause of the premature brake failure has been addressed. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate to determine if this is a brake distribution issue, design defect, poor quality, or any combination of the above. I am deeply concerned about the safety of this vehicle.
I own a 2008 Honda Accord 4 door vehicle with a v6. The car is about 22 months old with aproximately 22,000 miles. The rear breaks failed. Honda is calling it "premature wear" and paid for the majority of the repair. They are telling me they have neither a recall, yet they paid for it because it is known problem with the car. Thye have stated they have no fix for the problem and I can expect the brakes to fail every 20,000 miles.

Premature brake wear on 2008 Honda Accords. The brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord needed to be replaced at 17,000. Honda claims this is normal wear and tear; however, any seasoned driver knows brakes should last much longer. After some research on the internet, it appears that this is a common problem among 2008 and 2009 Accords. Some are having to replace brakes at 9,000 miles. To me, this is a safety hazard. I had no idea my brakes needed replacing. There were no warning signs - no squeaking, no clicking, the car did not drive and/or brake any differently. Typically, I would not have the brakes checked at 17,000 miles for no reason. The problem was brought to my attention on a routine oil change. To me, this is a safety hazard. Had I not hat that oil change, I would have kept on driving an unsafe car, with the risk of a complete brake failure. The dealership would not cover the cost ($270) because Honda is not acknowledging that there is a problem with 2008 and 2009 Accords. It is not safe to have this many cars on the road with brake issues. I elected to trade in the car, rather than dealing with having to replace the brakes every 17,000 and I did not want to drive an unsafe vehicle.
Brand new 2009 Accord. Loud & annoying brake squeaking. Honda dealer acknowledges a design defect and states that Honda is working on a solution. I check with them and complain often. On inspection there is premature wear, on a vehicle that now has less than 5k miles. Guess I'll have a rich widow when my brakes fail before the Honda recommended brake inspection.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated that during routine inspection, a technician concluded that the rear brake system needed to be replaced. He then added that brake failure is common with his model type and year. The vehicle was repaired at an expense of $ $251. 18. The failure and the current mileages were 25,600. Having tires replaced tech noted rear brakes worn to need replacement. Work completed on 09 Sep 2011. Tires rotated on 29 January 2014. Tech advised brake replacement. Mileage 45,715. This is a known issue with this model/year Accord. Less than 20k on second brake job - both sets rear brake failure of "normal" mileage given reasonable use.

My 2008 Honda Accord has the rear brakes failing after 16,000 miles. After doing some research I realized that Honda is ignoring a systematic problem that requires a recall. This is a serious safety issue if thousands of 2008 Hondas have brakes that fail every 15,000 miles. . Read more...

After 15,000 miles of majority highway miles the oem rear brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord ex-l 4 door v6 were completely worn out. The brakes were worn only on the inside pad. The outside pad looked almost brand new. Honda informed me that this is normal wear and tear, but I have never seen rear brakes fail after 150000 miles on any vehicle before. The original cost for repair would have been $190, but the service manager admitted there is a problem with the pad and let me walk for only $70. The parts were replaced, but I know that they are going to go out just as quick. They told me that there is a flaw in the design and that Honda is addressing the problem, but also said it is normal wear and tear.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While taking the vehicle in for service, the contact noticed that the brakes were wearing down too quickly. The dealer stated that the parts on the vehicle were faulty. The contact feels this is a safety issue because the brake failure could lead to a crash. The current and failure mileages were 20,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated automatically and the brakes failed. The contact had to drive off the road and crashed the vehicle into a small tree. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop for repairs and to have the brakes inspected. He discovered online that other vehicles were experiencing the same issue. The contact feels that Honda is at fault and are not doing anything to correct the issue. The current mileage was 32,000 and failure mileage was 31,349.

Rear inner brakes wore out at 26,000 miles. The brakes should not wear out this fast. Most of the miles put on the car were highway miles. There is a defect in the brake system for this car. I am afraid this defect could cause the brakes to fail in the rear. Honda knows there is a defect but doesn't recall the car and fix the problem.

Brake failure. Primarily a complaint about michelin tires. The tire had poor grip in the rain. The consumer stated when he slammed on the brakes, the vehicle slowed very gradually only because the consumers foot was off the gas pedal and the vehicle coasted, approximately 2-3 seconds later, the brakes applied very gently. The consumer as well as the mechanic at the dealership believed there was a momentary failure of the abs.
Consumer's vehicle was struck from left side/ rear, applied the brakes and they failed. Then, vehicle struck a car. The vehicle contiued down the street the consumer tried to stop the vehicle as the brake pedal was firmly pressed the vehicle would not stop.
