Honda Accord owners have reported 1,479 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Accord based on all problems reported for the Accord.
I own a 2018 Honda Accord equipped with collision mitigation braking system (cmbs). The vehicle has experienced multiple instances of false collision warnings and phantom braking. The issue occasionally occurs when approaching overhead interstate signs. In most cases, the system flashes brake warnings briefly and then clears. However, on one occasion during rainy conditions a few years ago, the vehicle unexpectedly applied the brakes at highway speed with no obstacle present. The vehicle has undergone multiple camera calibrations (this may have also included the radar), but the problem persists. This creates a serious safety hazard, particularly at highway speeds where sudden braking could result in a rear-end collision. The issue appears to be related to false object detection by the adas system, potentially involving radar or sensor misinterpretation.

While driving in a busy area with pedestrians and other vehicles, my car hard braked out of nowhere to a complete stop for no reason. I was nearly rear ended. The adaptive cruise control shuts off completely after 15 minutes in use. Says to take it to the nearest dealership. Turning off and restarting the car gets rid of the notification.
This has been reported one time before but the situation has gotten worse when driving at approximately 60ish miles per hour but it starts doing it about between 50 and 70 mph when driving and the car is using the regular engine not the ev section. You will randomly lose the ability to accelerate and you have to remove your foot from the gas let the engine slow and then re-accelerate now for the second time as I'm driving I lose the ability to accelerate at all and no matter what I do the car will slow almost every warning light on the dash comes on and there are 11 different warnings I've uploaded photos of a few I have a video though also and you lose complete power and ability to drive warning lights such as power steering problem emissions problem powertrain problem all of those are part of what turns on if you try to move the vehicle it will not move unless it is an ev mode and even then it only works for several feet but you can't get over a few miles per hour if you are on the highway like I was going 65 mph and there's traffic is extremely dangerous the only reason I was not hit was because I turn my emergency lights on and was able to maneuver my vehicle to the shoulder safely had I been in a more busy section of the road or had I been in an area where I could not get off the road I would have been hit by another vehicle. Honda has stated they can't find anything wrong with the vehicle but a quick google search shows that this is a common issue and I have a video of the dash with all the warning lights should anyone need it as well as photos.

During transit, the dash displayed several errors and then finally stated that there was a "brake system problem, brake performance my be reduced. See your dealer. " the car lost power and I had to find a parking lot to exit the street to. After turning the car off and back on the car drove normal but with the break system error still on the dash console. After parking the car for a while at home, I restarted the car and the error was no longer displayed and everything seemed normal again.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was a choking sound coming from the vehicle, and brake pedal went to the floorboard. The vehicle was turned off and while restarting the vehicle, the lane departure, tpms, brake system, brake hose, brake performance reduced, and other warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

All light come on brake system, acc, road migration, collision migration, hill start assist problem, vehicle stability system, electrical power steering, and it will not go when at a light. Almost causing a car accident.
The rear brakes on my 2018 Honda Accord sport 1. 5t (six speed manual transmission) have failed prematurely. This failure of the pads and rotors was confirmed, at the request of american Honda, by me at my local Honda dealer, and was documented in a response to american Honda. This occurred at 46,150 miles which I believe indicates a defective design in that the brake calipers, pads and rotors as a system were not built to the capacity needed to support Honda's design of this car that greatly increases the workload on the rear brakes. I am a very careful driver and minimize the use of brakes as a result. My calculation is that these brakes have failed at 1/4th the life that it would be reasonable to expect. The result is increased safety risk to car owners and drivers who do not act on this premature failure due to it not being normal or expected or affordable. Honda has effectively, through this brake design, implemented a need for car owners to enact a $750 repair on a frequency close to routine maintenance such as oil changes.

So I am just driving and all these lights come on my dashboard about front collision warning failing and land departure failing and no traction control or power steering. It caused my car to slip in the rain since there is no abs without traction control. I skid for a bit till I regained control and pulled over. This is such a common problem in this generation of cars there are 100 of youtube videos and forums complaining about the abs module failing this is a danger to others lives. How has this not been recalled as the brakes are so crucial?.

I was driving on the freeway doing about 65 to 70 mph and all of a sudden on the dashboard a large orange brake light came on and the vehicle hit the brakes automatically almost causing an accident. I took it to the dealership and all they did was reset some computer board but said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. If they couldn’t find anything wrong with the vehicle then why reset the computer board.
Collision warning randomly activates when driving while no vehicles or objects are around. This has been ongoing, but this last time emergency braking activated extremely hard and would had caused a collision if there was a vehicle following as vehicle almost came to a complete stop on a 75 mph highway.

Car initiated emergency auto break while traveling on the freeway at high speed (70 plus mph) in phoenix, az for no reasons. There were no objects or cars within 500 feet, however I was approaching an overpass. This occurred multiple times on the freeway and on local roads. Reported to Honda, no fix.
9 warnings lights turned on on my dashboard and when going slow and accelerating it brakes by it self also brakes on freeway going 70 mph and then recovers.

I was turning into my parking space after work. The car suddenly showed every single alarm possible it started driving incredibly poorly at low speeds. I turned the car off. I let it rest for a minute. I turned it off and it was horribly slow, but it was able to pull it into the parking space. I did not call a tow truck at this time because the last time they towed into an impound lot and it took days to get it to the dealership. They tried to hold my car for ransom for thousands of dollars. This is a brand new vehicle has broken down multiple times. Honda is trying to externalize flame. The dealership takes no ownership of their faulty merchandise.
Driving on the white horse pike in berlin new jersey at 1:39pm on January 21st and my break light warning light came on. There was nothing in front of me, I was doing 40mph. The roads were dry, there were no cars near me, and no traffic. It happened again on the same day January 21st, on the white horse pike in lindenwold new jersey. This one happened at 520pm, I was doing 45mph and my break warning light came on. The road was dry, there was no traffic on the road, and no cars or debris in the road either.
Abs low voltage warning symbol appeared on vehicle. $3500 to repair According to dealership. This is a common issue on these vehicles and poses a safety risk. Hoping that NHTSA will investigate this problem as many owners have experienced same issue and repair cost is significant, particularly for a vehicle this age.

I installed (2) identical advance auto parts platinum rear brake rotors on my vehicle. Both rotors were installed at the same time, in the same manner, and under normal conditions. After approximately (1) mile of normal driving on of the rear brake rotors catastrophically failed by completely separating at the hat (the center mounting section). The opposite side rear rotor, installed at the same time, did not fail. The failure occurred without warning and resulted in immediate loss of braking integrity at that wheel. This type of structural failure presents a significant safety risk, including the potential for sudden brake loss, wheel lockup, or loss of vehicle control. The vehicle was not being driven aggressively, and there were no abnormal conditions prior to the failure. The failed rotor has been preserved and is available for inspection. Photographs documenting the separation are also available. A brake rotor should not experience complete structural separation under normal driving conditions, especially immediately after installation. This appears to be a manufacturing or material defect that poses a serious safety hazard. I am submitting this complaint to document the defect and to help prevent potential injury or accidents involving similar components.

Was operating the vehicle at about 30mph and the braking system started malfunctioning by giving me limited braking power and throwing a bunch of lights on the dash along with sudden loss of acceleration. Tried to press the pedal again and it didn’t respond I drifted to a stop in the middle a lane in the road. Had to shut vehicle off then restart to regain function. All conditions were clear outside. The dealer I bought it from has been very suspicious since the purchase. Bought as a “certified pre-owned” but have had nothing but problems in the couple weeks of owning. Such as the tpms system continuously going off saying “low tire pressure” the dealer has seen it multiple times and still can’t figure out the problem. They said they’re gonna start “throwing random parts at it” issues just continue to get worse with little to no cooperation with the dealership. Will be inspected in the morning once it’s towed in. No longer feel safe operating vehicle. Warning lamps came on after the malfunction. Then flickered on and off a few times then stayed on when I restarted the vehicle.
This is a second formal supplemental complaint. Vann york Honda sold this car as new, but a Honda America provided carfax proved it was a prior personal use vehicle. The car has catastrophic phantom braking, causing a physical friction rash on my skin. Multiple witnesses are now afraid to ride in the car. The vehicle has suspension failures documented by irregular tire readings. Despite an active federal recall, flow Honda refused mandated repairs. During a prior headliner repair, flow Honda returned the car with a collapsed headliner and a maintenance minder a127 code. The oil life dropped from 45% to 5% without added mileage, yet I was told to drive it. Weatherstripping has been replaced. Recall work for seatbelt (which came apart) and fire risk in the engine. Manager chris moore falsely claimed a brake warning was merely a remote start issue. He has also shows a lack of understanding of the nc lemon laws. I have recorded complaints from well under 24,000 miles. Flow Honda held the car for four months, then claimed they did not know it was there. They sent a text acknowledging the recall but failed to perform it, trying to ship the car back to me to hide its 120-day neglect. The car has lot rot, tire rot, and an open battery exposed since [xxx]. My insurance company ignored warnings of retaliation and forced the car back to flow Honda. They recorded a medical diagnosis of a panic attack on my paperwork without medical expertise and falsely claimed I requested a collision shop despite no collision occurring. This matter has reached my state representatives and the governor. As a [xxx], this tax-exempt vehicle is a medical necessity. I am being denied federal safety repairs and discriminated against based on my sex, gender, and [xxx]. My first report to nshta was done March 2025. Ada accommodation: I require all communications to be in writing (email/mail) only. No phone calls. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
There wasn’t an accident. My abs module has went out. Which has the traction control light, break light, power steering light, tire light, and abs light all on, on my dash. After a lot of research it is a known issue in models from 2008-2017 so I feel like there should be a recall on this before something happens. I was driving down the hwy going about 50 when I seen a car pull out of a side road. I had to slam on break and my traction control didn’t work at all. I slid all over the road. Luckily I was able to stop before hitting the car, but the traction control made me go all over the road. This is a problem!.
While coming to a stop on a slight incline, the brakes failed to stop the car, brakes were applied and initially slowed the car but when the slight incline was reached the brakes would not engage and the idle of the car move it forward and still the brakes would not engage. I had to put the car into neutral then park to stop. After the incident the brakes seemed to work fine. Nonetheless this is a major issue. There were no warning lights or any indication that something was malfunctioning. There were no indications after the incident either that anything malfunctioned. I will be taking the car to the dealer ASAP to have checked. We lightly tapped a truck that was in front of us on the slight incline - no obvious damage to either vehicle ( need to verify in daylight) - no injuries to anyone in the incident. If we were traveling faster there could have been serious injury or if there was a pedestrian there could have been serious injury.
It makes false things there is no car but it brakes by self for nothing.
No accident occurred. I just believe that the symptoms our car has are the exact same issues that caused a recall. I’m just relaying information to help set the parameters of the recall. Secondly I am curious why the service manager didn’t mention about a recall possibly concerning our car. Even though it isn’t in the window of the recall ( but shows all symptoms). Guess I’m feeling a little jaded with the way the service manager conveniently left out they didn’t have any parts for our car and they would have to order them. Anyway they knew I was driving the car home and they only had 6 hours to mess with it.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes independently activated, and the transmission independently shifted into neutral. The contact stated that there were no other vehicles nearby. The brake warning light illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to clean off the sensors and see if the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that she did not want to see if the failure would recur. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,660.
While driving the automatic brake system randomly starts flashing brake across the instrument panel and begins to brake the car. This does this while there are no other vehicles or any type of obstacles near the vehicle. It also, does it at random caution lights for the fire department on a 4 lane divided highway. There is no way to stop it from doing so. This happens frequently and leaves the driver with no control over the braking system.
While driving, the power steering warning came on and the steering wheel became extremely tight, making it very difficult to turn. This has happened more than once, most recently on December 8, 2025. The loss of steering assist occurred while the vehicle was in motion and created a serious safety concern. The dealership retrieved diagnostic code c1250-52, which indicates an internal malfunction of the electric brake booster ecu. The steering issue and warning occurred again after the initial diagnosis. The system appears to fail intermittently and without warning. I have owned multiple Honda Accord vehicles over the years and have never experienced anything like this. Sudden loss of steering assist while driving is a safety defect, and similar issues have been reported by other owners of 2018–2022 Honda Accord models.
While driving, my 2023 Honda Accord hybrid suddenly experienced a multi-system failure affecting: road departure mitigation system tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) vehicle stability assist (vsa) hill start assist electric power steering system brake system (“brake performance may be reduced”) all warnings appeared within seconds. The vehicle is available for inspection, and the incident is documented with multiple photographs. In addition to the system failures, the vehicle unexpectedly began to lose power while I was driving, causing it to slow down rapidly in active traffic. This created an extremely hazardous situation, including: risk of being rear-ended since my vehicle slowed without warning reduced steering assist reduced braking performance loss of stability control inability to accelerate out of the way this combination could easily have caused a serious collision. I later learned that there is an active recall related to the systems that failed on my vehicle. However: I never received any communication from Honda, no letter, no email, no notice of any kind. I am extremely unhappy and frustrated about this. Had Honda informed me of the recall: I would have scheduled service immediately I would not have driven the car under normal conditions I would not have been exposed to this dangerous situation on the road the absence of recall notification directly contributed to my being put in a potentially life-threatening situation. A recall notification exists for a reason which is to prevent exactly the type of failure and danger that I experienced. Honda’s failure to notify me removed my ability to take preventative action. The issue has not yet been diagnosed or confirmed by a Honda dealer. I will be taking the vehicle in for inspection as soon as possible. No inspections have been conducted yet, but I have full photographic documentation from the moment the incident occurred. No prior warning lights, symptoms, or error messages occurred.
While I was driving on the highway, the brakes of my car suddenly were violently activated and I had not touched the brakes. If there had been a car behind me, it would have been a major rear end collision. It was over quickly and I accelerated back to the normal speed. I talked to the Honda service mgr where I purchased the car and he said he was unaware of the problem although I see that that nearly 3 million Hondas have experienced this issue.
While driving the car at approx 45mph on a busy roadway the vehicle suddenly accelerated heavily I tried applying the breaks but the pedal did not go down and had no affect of slowing the vehicle. I was forced to swerve around several vehicles to avoid a collision then just as suddenly the car returned to normal operation. The duration on the incident was approx 5 to 10 seconds. Very dangerous and very scary.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started and shifted to drive(d), the traction control and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that the "hill start assist failure – vehicle might roll upon brake release” and “see dealer immediately” messages were displayed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced, and the fuel pump that was previously replaced was faulty and needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was repaired, but the head gasket was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
I purchased this used vehicle. I have never received any recall information on this vehicle. The electric power steering system, tire pressure and the vehicle stability assist indicators lit up after a successful vehicle inspection was conducted Thursday 11132025. A 2023 recall, identified by the NHTSA as 23v-430, covers the issue and requires dealerships to replace the vsa modulator. I contacted the dealership and they told me they could not assist.
1. Power steering rack 2. Abs modulator my 2015 Honda Accord experienced a sudden failure of both the abs system and power steering rack. The dealership confirmed the failure was not due to neglect or wear. Due to the safety risk the repair estimate exceeding $14,000 for the safety system and regular repairs, I was forced to trade in the vehicle. Honda denied goodwill assistance on the safety systems (power steering rack & abs modulator) November 17, 2025 saying vehicle is out of warranty and cited value and year of the vehicle. I was the only owner of vehicle and only serviced at balise Honda of west warwick and/or johnston ri.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the engine was revving, and the tachometer was showing an elevated rpm level before the vehicle slowly responded. The contact stated that there were several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. Additionally, the check engine, traction control, and brake warning lights illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
Driving on a clear road on a clear day with no car in front of me, the brake warning flashed and then the car braked on its own. There was no reason for the warning or for the car to brake on its own. Automatic breaking isn’t even a feature on this car.
