36 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I bought my car in 2012. From 2013-present, I've had to replace my brakes and rotors at least 10 times and now I'm being told my calipers need to be replaced. There is no way that I should have to replace my brakes that many times. In the last year alone, I've had to replace my brakes and rotors 3 times. I currently have to replace my rear brake pads and rotors when I last did it 3 or 4 months ago. I don't have the money to keep fixing this problem, Honda should be responsible! also in July 2015, my ac/heater stopped working, we thought it was the fuse, so we replaced it but its still not working. I am very frustrated and upset with the problems with my car, I will never buy another Honda! I have never had this problem with any car that I've owned.

39 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/18/2012

We had to have the brakes repaired again. We purchased the vehicle as a certified pre-owned Honda. We replaced the brakes last October 2011. 15,000 miles later, we had to replace them again? we took our Honda Accord to a Honda dealer in ft. Worth (frank kent Honda) for a recall repair and they said we needed new brakes. We took the Honda to just brakes in ft. Worth and the manager said our Honda has a caliper and brake problem associated with 2009 Honda Accords. The caliper causes the brakes to not "disengage" causing "friction" thus wearing the brakes down way too quickly????? really?? this is news to us? nothing was said when we bought the Honda in January 2011. From huggins Honda in ft. Worth. ? nothing was mentioned by frank kent Honda when they said we needed new brake pads? now I have read an article explaining a law suit over the brakes? why are Honda owners not being told or warned about this???.

41 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

Rear tires overheated to the point that it would burn a hand that touched it on 6-11-2012 (mileage 46,384). Smelled of burning rubber. Had to replace the left rear brake caliper, brake pad, and rotor. On 4-18-2013 (mileage 65,922) the same problem on right rear. This required replacement of the right rear brake pad and rotor. On 6-13-2014 (mileage 93,310) the same overheating occurred and required replacement of the rear brake pads. The latest occurrence was on 3-16-2015 (mileage 112,411). We have an appointment to have this examined in two days so do not yet know the diagnosis. I am very concerned that this failure could occur while we are driving and could result in a fire, blown tire, or crash.

42 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/30/2012

Brakes unevenly have worn on the back, and there appears to be a caliper issue and the brake pads do not even cover the entire surface of the rotor. Suddenly the car had a very difficult time stopping. With less than 28k miles the brakes should be fine. The back brakes need to be replaced but the front brakes are fine and the pads cover the entire rotor. Honda needs to take responsibility for this faulty design of the rotors.

43 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/24/2012

I purchased this car new in may 2011. Within almost two years I had to replace the original brake pads and rotors I was told by my local dealer that this is normal. I have never had to replace brakes with such low mileage. Now as of today, 06/18/2014 my car has been back in the shop twice with in the last two months for more brake problems. I replaced the right rear caliper in 4/2014 with about 720000 miles and now today I am replacing the left rear caliper. I have had a Honda Accord coupe that I have put well over 100000 miles on and have never had to replace calipers. I am very unhappy and I think an investigation should be put on this car year of 2010 brake system as there are several complaints on the net regarding this. I have spent almost $2000 on brakes this is ridiculous with having a such a "new" car also had a problem w tires had to replace at 48000 also stock michelin tires. Unheard of Honda needs to do better with their stock parts!.

44 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

On the 2009 Honda Accord at 28,691 the rear brake pads started to smell like a burning smell then it started to make a noise from the back of the car. I sat in the back seat on the way to the vets office when all this occured. I do not drive this car as its my wifes car,she said that she could not hear the noise from the front seat but could smell a wierd ordor. She sometimes carry our frist grandchild in the car and with this happening thank god nothing happened. Please do something before the brakes catch fire or go out completely. The calipers I've heard are defective, they freeze up not allowing the inside brake pad release,I can understand this happening. Honda knows the problem but to call a full out recall they want to hide this critical safety defect.

46 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

According to new york times recent report, the newer Honda Accord or Acura tl has the problem with ebd (electronic brake distribution) when working with its abs, the problem is excessive brake pad wear. They were recalled. But I believe the older Honda Accord like my 2003 Honda Accord lx v6 also suffered from the similar problem, my model Accord has the ebd and abs, it first was found the rear brake pad completely gone at 52k miles on June of 2008 while the front brake pads were still in the good condition. It further suffered from the rear brake caliper (driver-side) failure at around 80k miles. So my vintage of Honda Accord should be subjected to investigate and possible recall as well.

48 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

My 09 Accord began making horrible metal on metal screeching sound out of the blue at 24,900 miles. Took it in for checkup and was told my rear rotors needed to be replaced due to manufacturer error caused by caliper slides being frozen and too much brake pressure applied to rear brakes. Was told by technician that he has seen many Accords with the same problem of manufacturer error. I am very disappointed as I was not and have not been made aware of this problem by Honda.

50 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

My wife and I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord (certified pre-owned) January 06, 2010. The mileage was 46,399. The Honda dealer said the brakes were new. (certified pre-owned) we had to replace the brakes July 2011 at 53,096 miles. (6697 miles later) August 2012 we had to replace brakes rotors and calipers 68007 miles. At this time we were advised of a defect in the braking system by just brakes. . We contacted Honda and they said since we were not the original owners and we did not take action sooner (prior 2010?) we would not be reimbursed for these repairs. (Honda settles lawsuit over this matter??) we also had to replace the tires in August 2012 as well. Since the repair of the brakes and calipers we have not had any issues and the gas mileage increased. We have spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix a problem that Honda has known about. A "certified pre-owned" Honda should qualify for the reimbursement that Honda has offered, even though we were not the original owners. Since we did not know about the "problem" until after 2010 (after the purchase of the vehicle) we could not had acted in time. It is my understanding there was a "safety bulletin" about this issue? if there was, why didn't Honda/dealer notify us of this issue? or shouldn't they have fixed this issue before selling the Honda as a "certified pre-owned" vehicle? I received a letter from Honda yesterday about a defect (control arm) in the 2006, 2007 & 2008 Honda civic and reimbursement available for this law suit. I would like Honda to remedy the situation on my 2008 Honda Accord.

51 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

I was sold a 2010 Honda Accord last year and I have already had to replace the calipers, rotors, and pads on my rear brake assembly. I was then told by Honda America that these are “wear parts that they will not reimburse me for. I fully understand that brakes are wear parts but “not at 20,000 miles. If it is ok for Honda to sell braking systems that need this kind of attention so early in life, they should have to warn customers at the time of purchase.

52 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

54 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

Had to slam on brakes at 65 mph, for the first time ever, to avoid a car that swerved in front of me. Shortly after, normal braking reulted in a dangerous wobble in the front wheels. I brouht to a Honda dealer the next day who advised the brake calipers were warped because I had slammed on the brakes. The dealer inspection reported front brakes had 75% life left (which is indicative of my moderate driving style), but were replaced when the calipers were ground to eliminate the warping. Dealer service rep advised the warping could happen any time I went down a hill or slammed on my breaks. Which to me is normal use. I complained that the calipers were seriously underbilt and was told it would be too espensive for Honda to make more robust ones for their cars. In other words, I should expect to get warped front calipers from normal everyday driving, to which the dealesr service rep agree. Basically I am stating that Honda has scrimped on the quality of their Honda Accord from brake calipers and the consummer has to pay for it. I have complained to Honda and was told that I could expect this problem in everyday driving on hills (I live in CT) or from slamming on the brakes. This is a dangerous situation being forstered on the consumer. I shudder to think what would have happend if I didn't have the work done the next morning, especially in winter driving.

56 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

Hello, I have a 2008 Accord lx, this is the 4th Accord I have owned. My concern is with the rear brakes. I am on my 3rd set of rear brake pads and the car has 37,385 mi on it. The front ones have not been changed yet and they are the primary pads to stop with. I took it to the dealer at 19000 mi and after a long debate they replaced the back pads at no charge. I just replaced them for a 2nd time at 37,000 mi. I noticed that the piston on the rear caliper screws out when its used for braking. Every other caliper I have worked with when you push on the brakes the piston pushes on the rotor then releases. The piston on this Accord screws out but does not screw back in causing the brakes pad to have great constant presure on the rotor. I as the dealer about it and they said there is no recall. Either way the breaks should not have to be replaced every 19,000 miles especially if they are the rear brakes the front brake have not been replaced yet and still have plent of life left in the pad. In closing I want to let you know that this is not proper and to as if there is a recall or design change be made to this produce.

58 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Rear brakes were replaced after 20,000 on 2008 Honda Accord. Honda service indicated that 2008 model year change modified when rear brakes engage at stopping. 2008 Accords engage the rear brakes a fraction of second prior to front brakes preventing front dipping. This was done without enlarging the caliper/pad/rotor dimensions/capacity.

61 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Shoddy rear brakes. Purchased certified pre owned, and rear brakes were replaced through certification process at approx. 45,000 miles. 10/22/12 rear brakes, rotors and passenger rear caliper replaced at 62,000 miles. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving he heard a grinding noise, but he did not have problems with the vehicle stopping when he applied the brake. He took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer stated that both rear caliper were rusted and it was because he didn't drive the vehicle enough. The dealer stated that they could remove the rust. 63 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/19/2009

I had to replace my rear brake pads at just under 23,000 miles. They were worn extremely unevenly on the inside only. The outside pad was not worn at all. Now at just under 45,000 miles, they are in need of replacement again. Same problem -- worn on the inside only. The mechanic that I go to told me that he suspects that there is something wrong with the calipers. It is unusual to see absolutely no wear on the outer brake pad and all the wear on the inner pad. The first time I had them replaced, I went to the dealer and was told that is how Honda redesigned the braking system in the 2008 Accord. I purchased a Honda because of it's amazing reputation for reliability and am very disappointed that the brakes not working properly is not being fully investigated by Honda.

66 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

Considerable brake damage after 26k, had to replace drums, calipers, rotors and shoes to the tune of $546. 00. 7k later, the brakes are down 25%, they were installed by a Honda dealer who said tough luck, its a friction item, not covered under any warranty by Honda. Looks like we have to have new brakes every 15-20k and its at our expense. Time for Honda to step forward or for Honda to learn from Toyota mistakes, maybe another 16. 5 million dollar fine should be up for Honda also. Last time we buy this piece of garbage. Signed - a former Honda customer!!!.

67 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

During a regular oil change at a firestone auto care store on 9/12/2009, the store insisted that I needed to have my car brake pads replaced. Then, on my way home from the firestone store after the oil-change and brake services, my new brakes started having problems. Firestone did not tell me what happened to my new brakes when I returned to the store next day. I later on learned that 1) firestone had installed incorrect brake pads on my car on 9/12/2009 and 2) their mechanics had kept the incorrect brake pads on my car during my return visit on 9/13/2009. Then, in may of 2012, I started hearing noises from the brakes again. Firestone inspected my brakes and insisted that they did nothing wrong during my September of 2009 visits and that I needed to have 1) my brake caliper system replaced, 2) the rotors replaced, 3) the 2009 firestone-installed incorrect brake pads replaced with the same incorrect but new brake pads. I took my car to the Honda dealer and learned that there was nothing wrong with the brake caliper system and that the incorrect brake pads had caused damage to the rotor. I reported these issues to firestone's customer care department and they never responded to my complaint. I have not been able to drive my car for more than a year and the incorrect brake pads firestone installed in 2009 are still on my car. Since 1600 firestone auto care stores in us share the same auto parts system, these stores must have installed the incorrect brake pads on many cars between 9/12/2009 and 6/2/2012 and put many motorists at danger. Since their customer-care department has chosen not to investigate and respond to my complaint and not to do a general recall of cars whose brake pads firestone has replaced during that time period, they have chosen to put their company's profit ahead of motorists' safety and their well beings. Can you help?.

70 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/23/2009

There was not indication of the failure prior to failure. Failure of rear brakes and rotors occurred due to premature wear. I had to replace the rotors and pads, but calipers still sticking, meaning that I will be back shortly for another repair of rear brakes. Told by dealership that they are seeing tons of this problem on the 2008 and 2009 Honda Accords, some with as little as 9k miles. I was told that they understand that Honda does not how to fix this problem, an engineering issue with this new overhaul of the Accord. I am very nervous about not having a reliable braking system.
