1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2020 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/02/2021

I leased my vehicle a year ago, I had electrical issues with my old car so I wanted a brand new car that was reliable and safe for me and my children. In the first months the car was fine but after about 4 months the car would smoke from the exhaust pipes randomly. I took it for maintenance as the car system directed but the repair shop never said there was anything wrong with the exhaust system. A month or so past and one day I got in the car and all the lights on the dash board were in. I was so freaked out because it was a new car and no warning lights should of been on. I took it to Honda repair services and they found out that a mouse went in my engine and chewed some of the electrical wires. The cost of the repair was 1700 which is extremely outrageous prices to me. Anyway I was at hospital at work and I got the call from the mechanic saying I would have to pay out of pocket because it wasn't a factory default. So I went home and did some researching and I found out Honda had been using soybean it peanut butter oil to lube the wiring, and that's what attracts rodents to your engine. It also started that Honda wire protection tape was out of stock because some many customers had there car wires eaten by rodents. So I was so pissed off that I called Honda corporate and they told me there is nothing they can do. I feel as though this is a big safety issue, why would Honda put parts or use oils in the car engine that attracts rodents. This to me is, unfair to honest hard working customers that pay Honda there money expecting to have a safe and reliable vehicle. Now I just found out there is a recall on the vehicle because the car started smoking out the exhaust pipes once again. I am very disappointed in Honda.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2020 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The car rattles on the rear where the exhaust end when I turn it off. It used to not do that rattling before. The car vibrates when the car is coming to a stop and then continues when idling. It feels like I am sitting at a vibrating chair. The engine works very rough when idling.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

We bought a brand new Honda Accord 2019(lx) on June 29, 2019. Not even a month later I. E. On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 7:49 pm my Honda Accord stopped in the middle of the highway due to unknown reason. Behind us was a truck and we were at 70 mph highway, we were about to be hit either by the truck or by the car on the right lane. Thanks to the truck driver and the person driving that SUV who stopped in time. We merely escaped death like situation. Post that I called Honda road side assistance and they asked me to move to a safe location and call them again. I tried to drive the car again and drove couple of miles where my car finally stopped moving and smoke started coming from the exhaust. Scared we quickly evacuated the car and moved to a safe location at 8:23 pm. Post that cops came to ask why we stopped there, we explained them the situation. We were told to stop the engine and wait there till the towing car arrived. I had so much trust in Honda and we are so traumatized with this situation and I still can't believe how this happened. This is a brand new car with total miles of 657 miles. I didn't expect this from a brand-new car. We were lucky enough to escape death on the highway. We were exhausted and terrified with this event. Yesterday Honda service center company called and told that the the turbo charger failed internally, causing oil to go into the exhaust system. This caused contamination of the catalytic converter and damaged the oxygen sensors. I am not sure if I can or anyone can trust Honda ever again. If something would have happened to me or my family will Honda be responsible for this. Question is do you still trust Honda ?.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

Rodent damage to gas line, emission system, gas tank, and numerous other parts in an actively driven car (not stored). Leading to major gas leak (half a tank of gas in a duration of a standstill at red light) that placed drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and bystanders' life at risk. Would've lead to catastrophic ending if exhaust was hot. Gas spilled over stretch of 2 blocks, majority concentrating at intersection between heath and main st. Buffalo NY, which required the fire department to clean up. 911 was contacted for patches of flammable gasoline, which could have been ignited for numerous reasons leading to fatality. Reason for filing compliant. Vehicle which this happened to was a brand new 2014 Honda Accord purchased in June 2014. Repairs denied to be covered under warranty by Honda dealership and America Honda. Stating accident events like this is not covered, and is not a mechanical defect. Two conservative repair required, still not fixed. Dysfunctional car for a period of 6 days and counting. For rodent damage to occur in a brand new, actively driven car is indicative of obvious flaws in the design itself. 1. The machinery was exposed and unprotected. 2. The quality of built material was substandard for it to be damaged in a overnight situation by some "rodent" no larger than those that can fit in, and maneuver, within a confined space (seriously, I do not believe a rodent would randomly choose my car on the street to squeeze into and just bit a wire (numerous wires) without purposes of building a news or for food). 3. Disproportion between the price paid for the car and the quality of service which followed it.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the engine was consuming oil at a fast rate. As a result, the vehicle emitted a loud noise and exhaust fumes were present in the interior. The dealer attempted to repair the failure on numerous occasions, but was unsuccessful. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.

7 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/31/2010

1. No event caused failure. Believe it is just a failure in equipment/material 2. 2008 Honda Accord is burning an excessive amount of oil. One quart every thousand miles. Several oil changes have had almost no oil in the engine because the problem was unknown. The problem is constant and may be defective oil rings or something worse. 3. What was suggested by Honda was rebuilding the engine.

8 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

The catalytic converter on my 4 cylinder 2003 Honda Accord exl was replaced under the 8/80 warranty on 7/10/09 at joyce Honda, denville, NJ. The car had only 67,187 miles on it. Now, less than a year latter and after only 18,348 miles on that genuine Honda replacement part, aron cooper, the joyce Honda service manager, says it needs to be replaced. He says that the code p0420 came up after the mechanic diagnosed the reason for the check engine light to come on. That is an extremely short life span for such an environmentally important part. It is also an extremely short life span for an expensive part replaced under warranty. Mat hatch, the Honda factory representative, said that Honda will not stand behind the replacement catalytic converter which is a Honda part, installed at a Honda dealership within the 8/80 warranty period. Mats rationale was that although the car is within the 8 yr. Time period, it is 5,535 miles over the 80,000 limit. He refuses to acknowledge the unusually short life of the replacement part that was installed under the warranty. As a consumer I am suspicious of a genuine Honda warranty replacement part that lasts for less than a year and only 18,348 miles. As a citizen I am concerned that Honda wont honor any reasonable longevity for an environmentally sensitive part. Perhaps mr. Hatch doesn't share Hondas advertising departments efforts to market Hondas as reliable and ecologically sound transportation. Perhaps he doesn't share the Hondas marketing departments efforts, for he has ignored a legitimate claim from someone who has bought a new ex model vehicle every 3 years during the last decade. Such a penny wise, pound foolish response will leave me describing my dissatisfaction to my neighbors rather then sharing my pride in owning Hondas.

9 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

I own a 2003 Honda Accord. The car has unintended acceleration. After two episodes where the engine revved up to 4000rpm without depressing on the accelerator the car was taken to the Honda dealer and they claim to have repaired the car. Yesterday my wife was driving the car and another episode occurred. She stopped the car with the brakes and no accident occurred.

10 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

While not crashes or injuries have been related to the Honda vehicle I own, there are a number of engineering and manufacturing defects on the vehicle which are a cause of serious safety concerns. I have a 2002 Honda Accord with about 131,000 miles which has had the following issues: 1. The transmission went out around 60,000 miles and was replaced by Honda. At around 100,000 miles the transmission started to exhibit same symptoms. I took the car in, but, of course, Honda dealer said there is nothing wrong. Then around 116,000 miles a Honda mechanic said that my model of a car has an issue with transmissions and that it would need to be replaced. The transmission issue is bad enough to have a website dedicated to it. While a transmission failing is not necessarily a safety issue, loosing vehicle control and drivable on the highway could be. 2. Now the vehicle starts to vibrate at highway speeds despite having new and balanced tires on it. I took the car in to get new struts. Since then I took the car to a mechanic of very high integrity (not the Honda dealer) and they said that unfortunately, the problem may simply be ?impossible? to fix since everything they could see indicated that car should behave normally, I. E. The tires were fine, the alignment was fine, and the cv joints were fine. This is becoming more and more of the issue and indicates a possible design flaw with the vehicle. 3. The lights on the vehicle are horrible. This is a safety issue as it seriously impairs the vehicle drivability. 4. The rails for the driver's seat had to be replaced around 32,000 miles and now (at around 130,000 miles) the seat seems to wobble again. This could be a potential safety issue as it seems that the seat could simply detach in the case of an accident. Updated 05/07/10.

11 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/07/2009

I have had 2 Honda Accords and my girlfriend has a 3rd Honda Accord. Overall the cars are great, but there is an issue that Honda refuses to address. The evap system is flawed and especially in new england weather, the canister and shut valve get attacked by road conditions in the winter and something fails. Why should we as consumers have to pay for the repair constantly when the issue is simply an over-sight on packaging the unit to protect it. Look on the internet and run code p1456 and p1457. If you live in new england you will have this problem or you will be very lucky. You ask, how do I know so much about this? I am batting %100. 3 Honda Accords 1998-2000 year models and 3 check engine light code p1457. It is pretty ridiculous. They should have done a voluntary recall on this problem ages ago. I just spent money to get it fixed on the 2000 Honda Accord. Wouldn't you know, right around a year after the 1999 Honda Accord. Coincidence? I think not. Please take the time and do the research. These are great cars so you probably don't get many complaints, but Honda is getting over. They screwed up and they know it. Look at the new Honda Accord, totally redesigned evap control unit. Coincidence? I think not. Thanks for your time.

12 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/18/2009

Camshaft failure 2003 Honda Accord 2. 4 dohc ivtech . Vehicle began to produce a slight valve clatter under acceleration with a/c on . Technician was asked to adjust the valves when it was noted that on one of the lobes on the exhaust camshaft had lost its hard facing and the cam was experiencing rapid wear. This is an obvious defect in the heat treating of the camshaft since none of the other lobes on this cam are affected. All vehicle maintenance was performed as recomended. By Honda motor company . I contacted Honda motor company of America via telephone and was turned away at the door (so to speak) I think this is an emissions related concern that Honda is attempting to ignore. Vehicle"s with 98k under 10 years old should not have rapid wear failure"s of this sort .

13 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

I smell the gas around tank area with my 98 Accord lx with cel on, took vehicle to dealer and found out the code p0420 and need to replace catalytic converter.

14 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

My 1999 Honda Accord lx blew out an engine valve while on the highway driving 60 mph. Honda service will not accept any responsibility for the failure of the engine. At the time the car had only 110k miles. Apparently, it is due to a defective valve design.

15 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Surge on acceleration. From a cold start my car excels normally. If make a stop for a few minutes or a couple of hours get in and it accelerates to about 20-25mph and dies. If I hold the pedal it will accel after a few second, if I pump the pedal a couple of time it will accel. Cruising at 65+ I can feel a slight jerking. This all started after getting a check engine light and code po131 to replace the primary O2 sensor. A new sensor was the oem equivalent from autozone. If I disconnect the O2 sensor the problem goes away. Car is well maintained and has 228,000 miles.

18 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/15/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving 30 mph, the exhaust caps fell off the vehicle and were driven over. Both passenger side tires were destroyed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and that stated that her six cylinder vehicle had a four cylinder bumper. The contact has been going back and forth with the dealer for several days and does not believe they intend to exchange the bumpers. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 1,800.

19 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Engine vibration began at 1750 miles after replacing oil control solenoid and oil changed at that time. Engine vibrates so bad entire car vibrates. Is felt in steering wheel and hands go numb. Dangerous! also felt in gas and brake pedal, visor and exhaust system, entire car. Stomach gets upset from seat vibration if in car too long. Is felt in passenger seat, rear seats! no one wants to ride in my car. Was offered replacement vehicle but it had navigation system and they wanted additional $2500 to which I do not want, need or can afford.

20 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

Since buying my car 2003 Honda Accord ex v6 coupe in 03. I had exhaust problems, radio replacement, park and brake sensor replacement, power outlet wiring problems and the windshield wipers freeze up during heavy rainstorms. This has almost caused a few accidents, but the dealership can find no problem. Last Thursday my car seemed to be hesitating before shifting into either 2nd or 3rd. I couldn't tell for sure. Later that night, the car began to jump into & out of the low gears while starting & stopping at lights. I pulled off the road and the car would not move in reverse (only rev up). After some time, the car jumped into reverse and back into a ditch. After getting back on the road, traveling approx 60 miles per hr, I eased off the accelerator, the car powerfully downshifted to 2nd gear. Had it not been for the seat belt, I believe I would have been injured. My dog was in the car with me & thrown into the dash, then the floor. The tires barked. The car then suddenly up shifted to a higher gear. I made it home that night and drove straight to the dealership the next morning. The car seemed to be doing ok. I arrived and was told to make an apt for next week. Less then 10 miles away the car would no longer shift out of 3rd gear and then would not go in reverse. I drove it back to the dealer. I was told I needed to replace the transmission at my expense, and I was pretty much at fault because I had not completed all my service at Honda. I explained that it was impossible for me to make it to them during their business hours. So, some of my normal oil changes were done at other lube centers. I then asked him about the transmission recall and he said that had nothing to do with my problem. After waiting more than ã‚â½ hr while he cut up with employees, I spoke to the location manager and asked about temporary transportation until I could contact american Honda, and he suggested I buy a new car.

21 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/15/2006

The catalytic converter went out just in time to evade the warranty on the car. My extended warranty wouldn't cover it. It went out at 82,000 miles and it's only covered to 80,000. I did hear that this was premature, but that it happens on the Honda Accords. The repair is pricey as I bought it in California and they have higher environmental standards (that part is good), so you can't buy an after market converter. The cost was $1,100 after installation. They nearly put the wrong one on in new mexico at the Honda dealership. Luckily, I called my old dealership in California as they were out of stock here and they said I had the incorrect part number.

22 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

2003 Accord had carbon monoxide fumes in vehicle causing consumer to become sick. The smell was a rotten egg sulfur smell. The consumer would get migraine headaches and become nauseous several days after driving the vehicle.

23 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/15/2005

The oxygen sensor has been replaced on the 1999 Honda Accord. The oxygen sensor has been replaced every two years since 2001. The tires have been replaced twice since the car was purchased new in 1999. The tires have dry rot and cracked on the sidewall. The tire have been rotated frequently and the tread is very good but the tires need to be replaced before they reach their mileage warranty (michelin tires).

24 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

I took my 1999 Honda Accord to my local Honda dealer for a check engine light at 78,000 miles was told there was no code in the computer and my gas cap was the culprit. They said they reset computer and all was good well if you reset the computer this means you cleared any codes witch OH by the way there were not any codes right. . . Low and behold at just after 84000 miles the light comes back on ,and this time there is a code cat and O2 sensor no good 1,100. 00 dollars later im sent on my way. Now at 126,000 the infamous p1457 code rears its ugly head and read that Honda may have extended the emissions warranty to 14 years/130,000 miles. If this is true why was I charged for cat and O2 sensor back at 84,000 miles???lets just say im not a very happy Honda customer right now.

25 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated sporadically and had a leak in the vehicle after inclement weather. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the egr valve was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was inspected; however, the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 205,000.

26 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/18/2005

The vehicle is a 2000 Honda Accord v6 ex, the cylinder has a cracked head. On 6-18-05 consumer was driving when white smoke came out of the dual exhaust. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealership. They told her that it was because of the cracked cylinder head. The coolant mixed with the oil and caused hot steam to come from the vehicle. Previously the srs light came on. Consumer believed that it meant the air bags were disabled. Nothing has been done to fix the vehicle. It is currently at the dealership.

27 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

Thus far, the sulfur odor from the exhaust has not caused any mechanical problems that I am aware of or cost me any money. I am concerned that the vehicle does not meet epa emission standards and, as you may imagine, I am most annoyed with the stink. Furthermore, american Honda seems totally apathetic to the defect and my dissatisfation. I am hoping that a powerful authority will put pressure on american Honda to correct the problem and recall the '03 Accords for repair.

28 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/20/2003

Rotten egg smell from the exhaust. Went to dealer ask them to check emission system. They ask if I had a check engine light on when I told them no they said maybe I should change gasoline that they found nothing wrong with the emission system I still have the rotten egg smell I have 6000 miles on the car.

29 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/20/2003

Rotten egg smell coming from exhaust. Smell is most noticeable after a hard acceleration.

30 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

The problem with my 1998 Honda Accord has been the check engine light. The light came on several times early on. Honda said that I either left the key in the ignition while refueling of didn't properly tighten the gas cap. The light came on at approximately 95,000 miles. The Honda dealer in gainesville, FL said the catalytic converter was bad. They quoted $800 for the part and about $300 for labor. I personally feel that the sensors are bad, rather than the converter. The car runs fine and the gas mileage is still good. Honda said tha earlier models with similiar problems had the emission control warranty extended to 120,000 miles, but not on the 1998. I always drive my cars at least 200,000 miles and have never experienced such a failure. Thanks for your assistance.

31 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

The catalytic converter failed but was under some special extended warranty so I didn't have to pay a cent. But, it failed, and I am not pleased. The second problem which is my major complaint is that I am being told that I will have to replace my transmission on a car that only has 83k miles on it! Honda knows that this is a problem with 98 - 01 Accord models, but only extended the warranty to 00-01 models. I believe Honda should be force to do a recall! it is very dangerous to be driving in southern California I-5 with a car that doesn't shift properly. Please help all us 98-99 Honda Accord owners.

32 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/24/2003

Car has bad sulfur odor when driving slow or stoping . Also , condition appears to be worst with a full tank of gas . Level of odor can be light to level giving you a headacke.

33 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/21/2003

While the car was idle or driven at low speeds a very bad (rotten) smell enters the passenger cabin through the vents. The vehicle was taken to the dealer which could not determine where the smell was coming from.

34 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/04/2003

Follow up to previous complaint. Honda America says rotten egg smell from 2003 Accord is hydrogen sulfide. Honda is aware of the problem and the customer service rep. Read me a prepared statement that the 2003 Accords have a problem in releasing hydrogen sulfide due to design, it is not the gasoline. No technical service bulletins has been released. There is no fix. Honda claims the problem should go away or dissipate sometime between 3000-5000 miles. I have 3950 miles and the smell is awful. Honda will do nothing to help. According to the centers for disease control (cdc), hydrogen sulfide is a broad-spectrum poison! breathing high levels of hydrogen sulfide can cause death within just a few breaths! exposure to lower concentrations can result in eye irritation, a sore throat, cough, shortness of breath and fluid in the lungs. I have been showing some of these symptoms. Why has NHTSA done nothing on this issue? the problem must be wide-spread as Honda has a prepared statement for its reps to read over the phone. I will attempt a lemon law claim and/or civil action for damages due to injuries from exposure to the hydrogen sulfide. (incident date does not apply as this problem has been constant).

35 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2003

Bought new 2003 Accord ex in 1/03. Since having the car, there has been a daily terrible "rotten egg" smell coming from the exhaust. Dealer claims that it is from the winter blend of gas, but my old car never had this smell and no one I know that has a car has the same problem. The smell is so bad that people getting out of back doors will plug their noses and I must keep heat/air on recirculate and keep windows shut because when I stop at a light etc. . . , the smell gets into the cabin. If dealer continues to "not find a problem" I will consider lemon law lawsuit.
