36 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Driving on the highway at 60 to 65 mph, grinding noise inside the engine compartment. At cruising speed (65 mph) release the gas pedal to maintain my speed. Then tap the gas pedal lightly to get back on speed, there is a loud grinding noise inside the engine compartment. I start noticing this around 8000 miles on the car. Car now has 13,200 miles. This was reported to the dealer , but Honda is saying it is normal. Grinding noise inside the engine compartment at that speed is not normal. This can be a safety issue done the road, grinding noise is caused by two objects rubbing at each other, one day this objects will wear out and fail. Ive been trying to explain it to Honda, but no resolution. I'm hoping NHTSA can help.

39 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/13/2014

While driving to chicago (2 hours away) with my wife and 11 year old my maintenance minder light came on to tell me it was time to get an oil change. Since it was a Sunday I couldn't take it in. I couldn't make an appointment until 7/16 to get in for an oil change. On 7/16 I sat in my car to go home, but my dash lights were all lit up. Brakes, electric steering, abs, check engine, my speedometer wasn't working and many more lights remained on. I called the dealer and they told me it was safe to drive it over to them although I heard a grinding sound, my brakes were soft and my steering wheel was very stiff. I went very slow since my speedometer or mileage wasn't working at all. The next morning my dealer called and claimed that a rodent was the culprit who chewed on some main wiring harness of the entire car. I find this hard to believe because why didn't it happen after the oil light came 2 days before? why didn't my wife's SUV get affected by this? this is a huge quality control issue that Honda needs to fix. What would have happened if all of these lights came on while I was driving my family on the highway?.

40 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Since I had the car when I pushed the start button the car made a grinding noise and would not start. I figured it was the starter and dealt with it. I recently had my brakes fixed and the mechanic said it was the fly wheel. I looked on line and saw numerous complaints and a class action law suit. There if obviously a defect in the part. The service bullitn was issued in 2013 so my car would have been under warranty. I bought 2 2013 Hondas I'm hoping Honda will take care of the issue at their expense. I have an appt Monday at the dealer 973-464-0037.

41 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2010 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

When starting the car at a cold start, you hear a loud grinding noise sounds for 2 or 5 seconds. There is a TSB 09-010 regarding a vtc actuator that drains of oil and is not properly lubed when starting the engine cold, causing the grinding noise until oil reaches the part again. Grinding noises in an engine are bad, and could lead to catastrophic engine failure should the abrasive metallic parts (due to grinding when there is no oil in the actuator) becoming lodged. This engine failure could happen at any time, possibly in a highway lane. While my car engine has not yet seized, there are online reports of this happening. Currently, Honda will only fix this issue under warranty. They also give the car owner a really hard time proving the issue, requiring the car be left at a dealership overnight to replicate the problem. A loaner vehicle is at your expense. If the car is not under warranty, this expensive repair bill is at your expense. If your car is under warranty and they are not able to replicate the noise, both the loaner car and diagnostic fee are at your expense. This greatly reduces the number of people willing and able to have this important safety issue fixed. Running engine components without oil should be a recall. It is clearly a safety issue that can cause other problems with your engine. If the engine stalls unexpectedly, it could lead to death.

43 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

There was a grinding sound on a cold startup for approximately 1 second. I took it to the dealership about a year ago and they fixed the problem at no cost. Even after they fixed the problem the sound still existed but wasn't as loud. I recently took the car back to the Honda dealership and they wanted to charge me over $500 for the same problem and claimed that they fixed a different problem last time. They said the issue had to do with the vtc actuator. Now the problem has become a lot worse and the sound is very loud.

44 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2009 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

My car uses 1 qt oil weekly and makes a grinding noise when starting. Change oil every 7,000 miles and have to add 1 quart weekly. Vsa & oil lights stay on even after clearing the error codes. Replaced the cam shaft sensor which malfunctioned weeks later. Pearson Honda & west broad Honda, richmond va informed me there is no recall for this problem. Unbelievable after reading so many blogs about this issue from other Honda owners. This model Honda is a lemon and Honda needs to repair at no charge to the owner. Replaced wheel bearing on front and now the rear is making a loud noise. Never had a Honda with these many issues. Wanted to trade it for the 2013 and dealer offered me $6,700 for a car I paid $26,000 for. This is ridiculous!.

45 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/28/2012

When traveling at any speed, but primarily above 50mph the car stalls. I will pull the car off the roadway, wait 30 seconds and attempt to restart. At times it will take up to a couple of minutes for the car to eventually start. Around the same time as the onset of this problem the car makes a grinding sound when you turn the key to start it. The same sound you would her if you were to try and turn the key to the start position after it is already started. The amount of pressure you put on turning the key does not seem to make a difference. The stalling problem has me the most concerned for myself and others.

46 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/25/2012

Sometimes my car makes a grinding noise when I turn the key to start it. I took my car twice to the metro Honda dealer in montclair, CA; but even though I have the extended guarantee, they refuse to check my car. I do not know what to do. I did some research on the internet, and I found out that a lot of people are having the same problem; and some of them had replaced the vtc actuator, and the problem was fixed. I mentioned this to the maintenance experts at metro Honda, but they still do not care. My concern is that this is a situation that is not on a recall list. What should I do?.
