Instrument lights in panel for hvac/audio system are not lit. One night they stopped working. Exact same issue as this:
make: Honda
model: accord
year: 2005
complaint number: 10241768
summary:
the audio unit display lights do not come on when the headlights are turned on. The radio dial, clock, and hvac control switches are not lit. The only light on in the area is the small green light showing which hvac button has been selected. The instrument panel lights do light up are controllable with the dimmer switch. This problem came on suddenly - one night they worked when I turned on the headlights and the next night they did not work. So far this is a consistent problem. I have checked the fuses; none were blown. As a driver I can cope with the problem this time of the year, but as winter sets in and the windshield needs to be cleared of interior fog with the defroster I will not be able to see which control to hit creating an unsafe situation. This was/is a problem with earlier model years (2003-2004) of this model run. In 2007 Honda issued a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty extension letter for these years. There is also a service bulletin for these repairs.

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that none of the lights on the instrument panel are illuminated. The light on the instrument panel was not working when the vehicle was purchased. The dealer stated that NHTSA campaign recall 04v256000 was related to the interior lighting on the instrument panel, however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 126000 and the current mileage was 127000.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the interior lights on the instrument panel were inoperative, making it difficult to see how far the vehicle was traveling and how much fuel was in the fuel tank. The dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs of the failure. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
What happens when a light on the instrument panel comes on or goes off? you look at it - taking your eyes off the road. The 'eco' light (notification of cylinder deactivation feature being dis/activated) located just below the tachometer regularly comes on and off causing a distraction. Asked multiple dealers, they have no way of disabling this distracting light. At first, I figured I would be accustomed to the light going on and off all the time; having had the car for 9+ months it still annoys me. I have no issue with the eco feature, just the stupid, distracting light.

On Jan 4th, 2010 my radio light went out! it is black, I can't see the time or settings for my heating or ac controls. I called my dealer and found out there was a recall for that problem. I never received a noticed of the recall and it has expired 2 months ago! it was 100,000 miles or 7 yrs which ever comes first. But than they extended 500 more miles but didn't add more time to the years. I have a 2003 Honda Accord and again it ended in November 2009. So they won't fix is for free! I don't know who to call about this situation. I should have been notified but wasn't! what can I do?.
The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to shift from second into third gear. As a result, the rpm's increased and the vehicle failed. The contact was able to get the vehicle to shift into the correct gear after a couple of seconds. There were no warnings prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the transmission was slipping between second and third gear, and also bangs when switching into reverse. The dealer spoke with the manufacturer and they offered the contact 50% off the total bill, which would amount to $1,508. 73. The contact refused and no repairs have been made. The vehicle was repaired According to NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission), but the failure has recurred. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 59,000 and current mileage was 59,500. Updated 08/19/09 also, the lights for the temperature, radio and defroster were out. Updated 08/20/09.
2001 Honda Accord ex v6 the instrument panel lights do not operate correctly sometimes they are completely off and can not see the panel sometimes they turn back on and stay on for days and then random turn off sometime while driving.
The contact owns a 2002 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 15 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of all the warning indicators on the instrument panel. The failure occurred three times when driving at a low speed. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 05v025000 (electrical system: ignition: switch); however the VIN was not included. The contact planned to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. In addition, the transmission would slip in a jerking motion whenever the vehicle was in operation. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
Dash light on instrument panel comes and goes darkening the entire dashboard while driving at night. Vehicle was stopped at night by police on dark highway along coastline road due to driving too slow creating a traffic hazard for others. Driver could not see panel to gauge speed.
The front instrument panel (the panel that contains the buttons to turn on/off the defrost, heater, air conditioner, radio) failed to illuminate in April of 2009. After getting in my car, putting my key in the ignition, and turning the headlights on I noticed that the panel did not illuminate. Typically, the panel illuminates after turning on the headlights. This day, after turning on the headlights the panel did not illuminate and has never there after illuminated since that date. At first I thought it to be an issue with a fuse (since it is an electrical issue) so I sought the owners manual to see which fuse controlled the panel. After having difficulty understanding the fuse layout I searched online for help and that is when I discovered that many other Honda owners have had this problem and that it in fact is not a problem caused by a simple fuse. This is a significant safety issue at night due to the fact that it is very difficult to find the defrost button on the panel when it is not illuminated and on rainy nights or other nights when the defrost is needed be very obstructive to the clear visibility of the driver of they can not access the defrost when needed. Because of this safety issue it is highly recommended that a recall is activated to replace and fix the electrical malfunctions of the panel that I have detailed.
2001 Honda Accord ex sedan 4d interior lighting description: on certain passenger vehicles, the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights could fail due to heat buildup. If this occurs, the instrument lights may fail and, at night, the driver may not be able to see the instrument panel gauges, such as the speedometer.
My 2003 Honda Accord ex has had an ongoing problem of the accessory lights going out that control the radio and hvac controls. It is actually a transistor on the printed circuit board blowing that controls the consoles lighting. Honda knows about the issue and has put out an extended warranty about this for 7 years or 105,000 miles, whichever comes first. If the warranty is out, the cost to fix it through the dealership is $700-900, not something many people these days can afford, and because they can't afford it, their safety is decreased. Although this is a known issue and the warranty has run out, they really should take responsibility and fix any that have this problem because this is a serious distraction while driving. Multiple times I've tried to change my temperature or radio settings and while trying to see the display almost gotten into an accident. There are message boards all over the internet addressing this issue and how much of a safety concern this is. An anonymous user posted this on the boards: : "can't view anything on the radio display or center controls. This is especially dangerous at night when trying to adjust the heat or a/c and can't see what I'm doing. Honda should definitely fix the issue. It really is a safety problem. . Read more...
The audio unit display lights go dim 1-2 minutes after the headlights are turned on. The radio dials and hvac control switches also go completely out. The only light on in the area is the small green light showing which hvac button has been selected. The instrument panel lights do light up and are controllable with the dimmer switch. I have checked the fuses; none were blown. I can cope with the problem by turning on the interior overhead light to see the controls. Just very inconvenientand creating a unsafe condition. This is a problem with earlier model years (2003-2004) of this model run. In 2007 Honda issued a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty extension letter for these years. There is also a service bulletin for these repairs. Perhaps Honda should havne extended this warranty extension to include the 2005 models.
Some sort of electrical problem is occurring and causes the headlights to dim and fluctuate erratically. The sound in the stereo also gets lower often times and I wonder if this ties into the headlights problem. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle because it is a distraction and causes me to check my instrument panel and I really expect a vehicle to opperate properly after spending so much money on it.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). Subject: Honda Accord - mileage/speedometer is not working properly dear sir, I have a Honda Accord 200 and its speedometer is not working properly. Compare with diff gps, highway milestones etc. The speedometer is not correct. I have asked and compare with other Honda owners and they have noticed the same problem. I took/complain to car dealer and they have noticed the problem as well, but they cannot fix it, its a manufacturing defect. While compare with gps speed and speedometer on car, cars speedometer is running faster by 5 mph more. I understand from an internal source, that its a Hondas dirty practice to convince customer that Honda provides better mileage efficiency while comparing other cars. Can you look in to it, please?[xxx].

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the key had a chip that could recognize the vehicle. The vehicle would stall as if it were being stolen. The chip embedded in the key appeared to be damaged and stopped working. The contact was locked out of the vehicle. She took her vehicle to a repair shop and was informed that when the chip and instrument panel lights turned off, that indicated that there was something wrong with the key. The current mileage was 78,783 and failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
There are 2 recalls on my year, make & model that I am experiencing. However, Honda claims my VIN is not included in the recall. I find it very odd that I could be experiencing both of the recalls, but my car is excluded. I also have seen several complaints all over the internet about the clearcoat on '98-'02 Honda's peeling. Honda is not accepting responsibility for the defective clearcoat.
During daylight, control panel/navigator is dark. Cannot read controls resulting in failure to observe instrument settings. During night, navigation system will not dim, resulting in visual hazard to driving.
I have seen this problem on both Honda and Acura models. The dash board is illuminated and the day time running light are on but the headlights are not. The problem is the driver believes the lights are on as the dash board is on and they have some forward vision. I believe the problem is the owners forget to manually turn on the headlights. It appears as if the headlights are on when in fact they are not. The main problems is the tail lamps are not on. Twice in the recent past on a dark curved section of the highway I have almost changed lanes into a black Honda Accord and on a different occasion a black Acura tsx due to the same issue. From behind in the dark they are basically invisible. Both times I have tried to notify the driver and both times I was unsuccessful. I could see their instrument panel illuminated and could not get them to understand their headlight were not on since from their perspective everything was on. Either the headlights should turn on automatically or the instrument panel should not be illuminated if the headlight are off. The current operation of these vehicles is unsafe.
1. Brake light stays on while engine is running and never goes out. When lead is disconnected from master cylinder, light goes out and remains out. 2. Air bag light is on when temperature is below 70 degrees and goes out when outside temperature is higher.
This complaint relates to car: 2000 Honda Accord lx 4 door sedan 4-cyl. 2. 3l vtec(ulev), automatic transmission. Current mileage: approx. 98,000 1. The dimmer control for the instrument panel light does not work for the mileage reading. Comment: I saw that there is a recall for this dimmer control for Honda Accord 2000 v6, but it is not there for v4 engine. 2. Srs light stays on the dashboard. Comment: it is related to a safety issue, meaning some problem with airbags.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. After the vehicle was started, the air bag and service engine indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic, but found no defects. Immediately following, the contact noticed that the cooling fan would remain activated for long periods of time after the vehicle was turned off. She also stated that she could only place half a tank of gasoline in the vehicle. The vehicle would stall when it had a full tank of fuel. The vehicle was driven to the dealer a second time for a diagnostic and no defects were found. The cause of the failures have not been determined. The manufacturer has not been notified and the vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 199,259 and failure mileage was 180,000.
Radio/temperature display blacked out.
