22 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

My 2003 Honda Accord lx crashed on 10/01/2016 about about 18 months after I had my airbag serviced at a local Honda dealer 4/7/2015. When I got my car back from the dealer, the driver door had no power and could not be opened remotely or with the power lock control on the driver door. More importantly, no safety signals came on when the car started. I called the dealer and they told me I had to pay $80 to have it checked; I then called american Honda customer service, who only documented the complaint and took no action to remedy mechanical mistake by Honda dealer. I was driving on a downhill curve on a wet road after a rain. When I saw a slower car ahead of me, I gently applied the brake to maintain a constant following distance. The car drifted to the left toward oncoming traffic. But when I tried steer to get back to the right lane and tried to press on the brake, it locked up, then the car went into neutral and I had no brake and steering resistance was completely lax. My car went off road and crashed into the woods. The airbag did not deploy. I was confined in bed with pain one whole day. My transmission had locked up, then went into neutral, twice before on 1/14/2015 in the middle of traffic, and on 9/15/2016 in my driveway. We never received a letter from Honda for the transmission recall; however, we did receive letters regarding the airbag recall, the ignition switch recall, and the wiper motor recall. A year ago, the recalls came up using my VIN#. The database now shows no recall for my vehicle at all. After my car crash, I had it towed to Honda dealership on 10/4/2016 for repair estimate. I left my car and title with dealership; less than 48 hours later I called to get car back for crash investigation and lawsuit, the car had been destroyed by Honda dealer closing all further inquiries. American Honda took no responsibility when I contacted them.

23 Ignition Switch problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

I was driving on the freeway going at highway speeds when all of a sudden, my engine stalls. I immediately put on my hazard lights and was almost hit by a car behind me as my car was coasting. Luckily, I was able to steer my car off to the shoulder as was able to start my car again. In doing some investigating online, it appears the main issue is with the ignition switch. There were a few recalls on the ignition switch which I had gone to the dealer to take care of (year 2002 and 2005). It appears the ignition switch that has been replaced is still faulty. I have around 143k miles on my car when the last incident occurred. I had this occurrence happen a few other times within the past few months, but at slower speeds. I want to report this because I believe this recall replacement part didn't fix the problem and can still endanger the lives of other drivers of this type of vehicle.

24 Ignition Switch problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

Car was in motion driving 70 mph and engine cut out, maintenance required light flashed, power steering locked, car jolted. It did this twice within a matter of seconds and restarted both times. I just purchased the car for my 17 year old and it happened two days after we bought it. I tried to replicate it but could not. I ran the VIN looking for recalls before purchase but found none for my vehicle. After this happened I saw all of the complaints regarding ignition switch problems. I took the car back to the used car dealer who has a mechanic onsite and I showed him the complaints I had found that were similar to what happened. I had him remove and inspect the ignition switch. He did find upon observation that it looked like there had been some electrical sparks and I believe he said some corrosion too, and that it was defective. I paid him to put in a new one as this issue is a serious safety issue. I am thankful the failure was only a couple of seconds and that the car restarted, otherwise I'm not sure my daughter would have been able to safely steer the car off the highway at such a high rate of speed and because she is not an experienced driver. The car has only 81,500 miles and I believe only had one owner prior to my purchase. I was so excited to get an Accord with low miles, but this is a serious issue and hazard.

Honda dealership replaced ignition switch. The original ignition switch was replaced in the 2002 recall. The replacement switch was replaced in 2016 after exhibiting the same symptoms that led to the original recall: silent stall. The faulty switch led to a stall at a stop light and when the light turned green I was rear ended as I was attempting to restart the car. 33 Ignition Switch problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

My car is completely unsafe to drive. It stalls while driving. It has stopped on highways, busy intersections, daytime-nightime. Honda dealership as well as other repair shops have told me that nothing shows up on their electrical tests. They test drive and it doesn't happen. The car will go 2 -3 between occurences, but it happens. The ignition switch has been replaced. Presently, the car is a death trap at 125,000 mileage. I have read that this happens to other Hondas. If this is true, this warrants a recall. The hood on my Accord does not close. There has been a problem with this for several months.

34 Ignition Switch problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/09/2015

Two times while driving tonight I tried to adjust the heat but accidentally hit the ignition switch that killed the engine. In order to start you must be in park so you must stop the vehicle before restarting. This happened in a small town with light traffic. If this happened in high speed heavy traffic this situation could cause an accident for the driver or other drivers. A recall should make it impossible to shut the engine off until the car is stopped.
