Honda has "fixed" this part the first time, and refuses to pay for the recall the second time. Can I be any less dead the 2nd time? Failure Date: 12/03/2013

I have a 98 Honda Accord lx that dies at random times while driving. It takes a few minutes to get my vehicle to restart. I've called Honda and they told me it was the electrical portion of the ignition switch that wasn't covered by the recall and is expensive for labor and the part. I've done some research online and this seems to be a lot of Honda owners who has this problem and the dealership won't replace the part.

65 Ignition Switch problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

My 1998 Honda Accord would randomly shut off while driving. Incident would happen anytime, any day, weather condition, on any road (highway, interstates, etc). Has happens over 100 times. I wasn't able to turn the steering wheel, or even stop the breaks. Everything failed on huge roads and intersections where my car would shut off while in front of a whole lane of traffic. Ended up finding out that there was recall on the ignition switch. I called a local Honda dealership to see if it has been serviced. It "was". I replaced the part myself and now my car has had a couple good trips. But if I would of taken it to Honda, they were going to charge me which is ridiculous, even though they could of recalled it twice like other people I read about.

66 Ignition Switch problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

Engine stalls without warning. Can happen at any speed. There is an existing recall for this exact same issue (02v120000) for the same make, model & year but my VIN is not covered. Honda says those covered by that recall had a different ignition switch. Well guess what, they need to include mine too!.

67 Ignition Switch problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

1998 Honda Accord: vehicle lost power several times at highway speed. Motor stopped, powers steering and brakes lost, gauge needles spun to zero, as if car was shut off at during normal operation. We did not touch key! almost got run over by car behind us. Problem occurred six more times before we could get to local Honda dealership. They charged me $186. 26 to replaced defective ignition switch and they advised they fix a recall for switch interlock while car was in shop for four days! we sent a letter to Honda, jason from Honda America California called me to decline reimbursing my cost!.

68 Ignition Switch problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I have serious issues with my Honda Accord. First, the transmission has failed. It began with it slipping in higher gears when hot and finally failed when it wouldn't shift out of low gear. This transmission is the same transmission that is in the 00-04 Honda Accords that were recalled. Honda refused to offer any type of owner assistance. My expense to repair: $1516. 30 second issue: in 2002 the ignition switch was recalled. The car died on the freeway and had to be towed two days after I received the recall notice. Honda repaired the vehicle no charge for parts and labor but refused to pay for the towing expense. My cost: $75. Now the ignition switch has failed again and Honda has refused to replace it at no charge or with any type of owner assistance even though this same part was replaced as part of a recall. I have been given an "estimate" of $275 to repair. Freeman Honda of dallas replaced the switch under the recall. I've contacted john eagle Honda of dallas, on lemmon Ave, and left messages for mario villareall the service manager but have not received a return phone call. I spoke with a service consultant who point blank told me my car is out of warranty and they will do nothing to help me. I called Honda customer assistance and was told they would not participate in any type of owner goodwill or assistance with either repair. I understand parts fail but these two repairs are known product issues for Honda!.

69 Ignition Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

2000 v6 Honda Accord died without warning at a stoplight and since then it has become more frequent over shorter and shorter time periods/distances. During the first few several occurrences like this it just died either while stopped or while running but could be re-started by putting car into park gear and re-starting. No warning, no sputtering, no shaking and so on prior to any of the dying. The only indication it has died is the dash panel indicator lights would all be on as though the car was just being started. During re-start the dash panel lights would be lit like they should be just prior to starting. Now as of yesterday the pattern has changed to still dies and the dash panel lights come on but when you shift to park and then try to re-start none of the dash panel lights come on and all you hear is the cranking of the engine but not starting. Eventually after a few minutes (1-5 minutes) of being off you could then re-start the car and the dash panel lights would light up prior to the re-start like they should. Unfortunately toward the end of yesterday that pattern again changed to where the lights would not come on during the attempt to re-start even after 40 minutes. I called Honda on 06/18/2013 and spoke to an agent and told her that I believe this is the same issue that Honda had a recall for dealing with the ignition switch under recall#:36754 in the USA and also another in canada for the identical issue my Accord is demonstrating. Honda seems to want to hid behind the idea that if my VIN is not in the recall then I am out of luck. This is a life threatening driving condition the car dies while moving without warning. I am sure they are other owners with this same issue (web is full of owners decreeing this issue) that have just had car repaired but never filed report here to bring issue to your organization's attention.
